WORD Pilate said, “So you are a king?” Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.” “What is truth?” Pilate asked. Then he went out again to the people and told them, “He is not guilty of any crime.” John 18:37–38 THOUGHT Truth—genuine truth—is sought globally. Truth is pursued so we might know and understand what is genuine about something, someone, or our world. Truth, however, has become a rare find these days. There is so much untruth discovered daily in political, business, educational, and, yes, unfortunately even within the church arenas. No wonder doubt and skepticism within us appears at epic proportions. Genuine truth-seekers will ultimately discover themselves in the story of Jesus. Perhaps not every question will be answered to their liking, but a genuine truth seeker will nonetheless be drawn into the story of Jesus, truth’s source. Jesus has never refused to listen to those on a sincere journey for truth. Pilate asked questions, but only to fulfill his politically appointed duty. Missing from the narrative was Pilate’s sincere desire to hear with his ears and heart. Christ’s answer to Pilate revealed the truth; those who “love the truth” know Christ is the King. Had Pilate genuinely sought to know the truth, he may have had an epiphany and declared not only is Jesus innocent of the charge, but also Jesus is the truth, and the way, and the life. What is truth? Christ! He is God and we are fully and completely redeemed in him! He is the truth, he is the life, and he is the way. PRAYER Lord Jesus, I know you speak the truth, the very words of life. Lead me in your truth every day. Amen. Give us today the food we need.
