WORD ...for a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen! Isaiah 9:6–7 THOUGHT The greatest gift given to us from our heavenly Father is Christ Jesus, God’s only Son. Without the introduction of the Messiah to the earth, all would have remained hopelessly dark. God sent his Son into the world as the light of the world. In and through Christ, we receive the gift of righteousness and instruction on how to live a life pleasing to God. In him and through him we are given all things needed to live in God’s will: full redemption and freedom from sin, strength, wisdom, and access to the Father. In Christ, we find peace, rest, and a home. Once orphaned, we are now God’s children. And as sons and daughters in the kingdom of God, we are the recipients of perfect fairness, holy justice, and divine peace forever. PRAYER Jesus Christ, a relationship with our heavenly Father was the greatest gift of provision. Thank you for bringing your kingdom to earth through your victorious redemptive work. You, Lord, are making everything new. Amen. Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
