As we celebrate Black History Month, we present a podcast on Sojourner Truth. Born in 1797, she freed herself from slavery in 1826. She went on to be an outspoken preacher of the gospel and activist for the abolition of slavery, freedman and women’s rights, and temperance or abstinence from alcohol and smoking, Sojourner Truth was the first African-American woman to have a sculpture in Emancipation Hall in the US Capitol Building. She was designated one of the 100 most significant Americans of all time by the Smithsonian Magazine in 2014. We present the amazing account of her life as an itinerant preacher, abolitionist, and women’s rights and temperance activist in this episode.
