One because there's not really much uh that kind of music that comes out, I mean that I get anyways that comes in my feed on my DJ, uh feed which is a VM screen and uh DJ City, and I also have one of my playlists. I just don't see a lot of new stuff, maybe you guys are new stuff. So that's the number one, and then number two, um I gotta say it's not my my favorite genre. And I don't know it too well. Um but yeah, I'm definitely open to it, and these are really like my um collection. You know, I got all the horse, you know, I know uh genre this year. I need more than four years ago, you know. And I can remake it. You know, and for both podcasts and radio consideration uh make sure that uh high volume, you know, make sure that when you uh software or your audio software that you look at the wavelength, you know, if you're working with a producer, uh make sure that you tell them that it needs to be the same volume as any other track on the Spotify, any other part of the record. Um because it has low volume. Um it's not gonna sound well, so for sure I can use it for your radio because your radio has to have a master track and have to sound good. So remember to use that and uh if you don't know how to do that, use it. You know, I can master your records before you get on a high volume, but uh yeah, invest in your music, make it sound good, and then uh send it to me a little year. You know, I don't really care if you're on a label or if you're just working around on your software anyway. And uh really you know, um also want to get into uh DJ on this episode and uh talking to you all about uh DJ because I don't want to get all the readers and marketing and all that we just like, you know you want to Give it a real shot. Um, I would suggest that you buy a laptop, you know, and start phase start one. You know, you need a laptop, and your laptop because you want to have a decent piece of equipment that you can actually do real gigs at. Because why learn how to DJ if you're not gonna make music? Make music. Well, you want to make music too, that's another thing, but before that, uh make money, you know, and a good side hustle, you know. Um I can't promise you it's going to solve your money problems, you're gonna quit your job and be a DJ. If you want to, that's possible, but I'm not talking about that. I'm just talking about, you know, you want to DJ for your friend's birthday party and they want to hook you up to a few hundred bucks. Cool. Um, and that's how it starts, you know, because then there'll be people there you don't know. And they're like, hey man, uh, how much you charge? And then them you charge them 500. And then from there, you know, you start bringing up your prices and stuff. And um, you know, but anyways, to start before all that, you need to learn how to DJ. And you know, it's no use you buying all a bunch of speakers and uh microphones and mixers and all that other shit. Um if you don't even know how to DJ, if you're not, you're not really gonna know if you're gonna um what do you call it, stick to it. So even if you buy a laptop, you know, you know, you lose interest in DJing. Hey, at least you got a laptop, it's a pretty cool laptop, you know, use for other things, you know. Um I can't I can't know you know what how do you say I'm not gonna say what you use laptop for, you know, but you can use it for a lot of other things besides DJing, so it's not a total loss. And um, so as far as laptops go, um, I'm going to talk about what I use, and um I'm not endorsed by anybody, I'm not getting any sort of affiliate affiliate money, um, any sort of no one's paying me anything to say this stuff. So with the equipment I'm recommending all the stuff I'm going to be talking about, the DJ software, it's because I use it. And um reason why I'm saying that is because if you want to start your own podcast or um you want to start dabbling in DJing, you know, you can just email me questions. You know, I'm not I don't want you to email me how how do I DJ? Nothing like that, but you know, I'm like, really? Um there's plenty of YouTube videos for that. But if you get stuck or something and you're like, man, I've been doing this for you know a minute, I'm trying to make my mixtape, it just doesn't sound right, or this transition's not working, what the fuck? And I don't know. I'm I'm working on my uh my sync and the sync's not working. Yeah, you know, give me specific issues you have and I'll help you. You know, but um just so we're on the same page, you know, I want to you to re I want to recommend stuff that I use that I know that's solid, and um and yeah, you know, that'll uh be uh how do you say it'll it'll work for you when you're out in the in the public because you can use your phone, sure, the DJ now, you can use your tablet, you know, um you can use standalone DJ controllers, but again, um just start with the basics phase one, step one, get a laptop. Because with a laptop, also not only do you want to have that to host your DJ software, um, but you also want to be able to use all the functionality of a DJ software. So with a tablet and a phone, it's limited, you know. Um, and I'm talking about the software, let me just start there with tractor, you know. Um I understand virtual DJ, you can do anything and everything with a phone, tablet, and laptop. It's seamless. Um if you want to learn more about that, check out one of my favorite DJs, Laidback Luke. He uses uh virtual DJ. I haven't really went there yet, but um it's definitely it's already on my my laptop, but I don't use it, but it's there, you know. Um because I like to learn all kinds of DJ software, you never know, you know, and they have some features on there that's not on tractor, so I'm kind of messing around with that. But anyways, I use Tractor, and you may ask why I use Tractor. One of the main things I like about Tractor, and you can look this up, it's it's highly regarded, highly regarded. And um, you may not hear it as much as Serato, you know, or even maybe Record Box. Um, but it's a solid piece of software, and it just got acquired by another company. Um, shoot, what is it called? Uh, the same company that owns uh AKI or AKI, the ones that do the DJing the D what's it the soft sampling software and all the production software. So they're in good hands, they're not going anywhere, first of all. You know, um, and anyways, as far as the software goes, when you buy it, you own it. You actually own it. You don't have to pay a monthly subscription. Um, with Cerrato, you do, with record box, you do, virtual DJ, you do. Um, I understand you can buy virtual DJ too, but it's about 300 bucks. Tractor is let me just look this up here real quick. Is 149 and you own it, and that's Tractor Pro 4. That's what I use, and that's the whole shebang. That's like you they you know, Cerrato has Cerato Light, Serrato Pro. This is the the equivalent to Cerato Pro, right? Or record box, I think professional or elite, whatever it is, they're top tier. This is it, Tractor Pro 4, and you can own it for $149, and again. I'm not I don't get a kickback for it. I don't have a code. Just go to uh native instruments.com, it's native dash instruments.com because they have a sale right now. And the sale is a summer sale, and it's uh what is this 30 for 30% off? Whatever it's a good deal. So it's instead of 149, it's 104, and you can own it. You know, start there if you want to be a DJ, start by owning your own software and invest it. Invest in yourself and invest in the side hustle or business that you eventually want to create. So that's step one. Buy that. Once you buy it, you know, um, like I said, hopefully you have your laptop already. But if you don't and you need one, um the requirements for this software is for a MacBook is uh you need to be running macOS 13, 14, or 15, 15 is the latest update. Um, if you want to incorporate your iTunes library into your your tractor software, you gotta use iTunes 12. And for a processor, it should be at least Intel uh core i5, apple M1, 2, 3, and uh just and 4, I guess, yeah. And uh you need at least 4 4 gigabytes of RAM. Um I would go at least 8. I don't think you can even find anything with 4 of a gigabytes, but just do 8 because you're going to also be doing some editing with your software if you want to start recording and doing a podcast. So if you want a Windows, if you want a laptop, you need Windows 10 or 11, uh Intel Core i5 or equivalent, and a 4GB RAM, they also say there too. Alright, um, you need at least one gigabyte of hard drive space on your computer, and as far as guard graphics hardware support, uh let's see, it says OpenGL 2.1 or higher. Alright, uh let me see what else your monitor 1280 by 800, but you know, anyways, if you're getting all that anyways, it should have all the rest of it, right? So, but if not, make sure you check it before you buy a laptop. But um, but I'm not gonna get all deep into that, but there you go. That's the basic shit that you should have on your laptop. And I use a MacBook Pro, and um, I know MacBook Pros are very expensive. I know um reason why I I've also used let me see a Hewlett Packard and a Dell. Um, I think that's it, and with and all with tracker, and um I had an issue with with a Dell and HP because I had to do um some finagle links, I had to do some workarounds for the installation, and it was never a smooth installation. Um as well, it's crashed on me on both laptops, um, not all the time, you know. I don't want to say it's a piece of shit, you know, but it's um it's not as dependable as my MacBook. My MacBook, it's rare that it would crash, you know. Um that I had I did have some issues with the late the last tractor update, I think it was Tractor Pro 3, that crashed a lot. Um even on my MacBook. But um it did it, it didn't do it when I was DJing. I got knocked on wood for that. Um but it never has crashed on me when I was DJing. It was only when I was like creating playlists and it was like a specific um action I was doing and then it would crash on me. But other than that, um, yeah, it's solid, you know, and like I said, I have tractor pro 4 now, and that's not a problem. So um as of yet, it has not crashed on me. And um and yeah, DJ software is crashed sometimes. It sucks. It's the worst feeling in the world when you're doing a party, but it'll cry it it probably will. You know, it's a computer, it's a hardware device, and especially if you're outside and it's hot or if it's really humid, yeah, your computer's gonna suffer and like it's gonna fuck it, fucking crash out. But it's that but anyways, as far as you know, the most of the time dependability, 99% of the time, my MacBook Air, my MacBook Air, my MacBook Pro outperformed my um my HP and my Dell every time, you know, it was just smooth too, like just running the software. Um I don't know, it's kind of glitchy on the on a Dell too. It's it was just really slow, and I had a top of the line Dell, top of the line HP at the time, and anyways, and um I was running like a mid, I guess, processor, uh, minimum level uh RAM with my MacBook, and it was it was amazing. And the installation for every single time I install on a MacBook, it's super easy, super simple. I don't have to go to any fucking forums and going, you know, this isn't working, how do I fix this? Because that's again, that's what I had to deal with with the HP and the the Dell with Windows, you know. So I recommend getting MacBook. Okay, and I know they're really expensive. You're like, Mike, it's two thousand dollars. What the fuck? I don't know rich. Me neither, and you know, um, so I get my MacBooks. Have I bought a new backbook a MacBook Pro before? Yeah, you know, but you know, I I'm on a budget, and I'm not trying to go there, spend two thousand dollars. So I go to a place called Backmarket. Is this backmarket.com? Yes, backmarket.com. Back B-A-C-K-M-A-R-K-E-T. And again, I'm not getting paid by these people. It's what I use. So um I buy my ref I buy refurbished things here, and um these are items like for anywhere from laptops, computers, uh, gaming consoles, smartphones, they have all kinds of shit here. So I come here for my MacBooks. I have two that I've bought from them, and when I buy a MacBook uh Pro from them and I buy the MacBook Pro, um uh each one I believe was under $400. And um the last one I got, I got 32GB RAM. I don't know how big my hard drive is, but it's gigantic. I got I got a top of the line, but it was a 2018, you know, but it it's smooth, it runs fucking great, I love it. And I have another MacBook that's my backup laptop because I do weddings. If you want to do weddings, you've got to make sure you have at least um two laptops or at least another device to back you up in case your laptop crashes, but anyway, so yeah, I needed two, and I was able to buy both and through back market, and like I said, each one was about 400 bucks. Um, but then I also bought a warranty, so that's another good thing. I bought a three-year warranty, so even if I drop it, I crack the screen, um, it just blows up on me, and who knows what happened? Smoke starts coming out, I can get it replaced. Fixed, and if they can't fix it, I get it replaced, uh, equivalent value, you know. Um, and so that's awesome. You know, I really like it, this place. Um, and you can like I said, another good thing is when you buy something here, um, they give you an option to pay in payments through a firm, and um it's pretty easy to get qualified through that. I think you just need a job, you know, and um, and so yeah, so you can break it up into payments if you want. But again, if you if if that's not you know something you're interested in, or you just have some 400 bucks laying around on a credit card, it's not that much, you know. And I'm on the site right now. Let me see what we got here. And okay, I'm gonna sort from low to high. I'm gonna put in the I already kind of pre-sorted anyways, and I put all the um the minimums on there. So, first of all, what pops up are these apps obsolete MacBooks. We got obsolete MacBook Pro from 2015, 2016, and obsolete MacBook Air. Those are really cheap. Those are 200 bucks, 218, 228, 245, 247, and again, they all have the minimum qualifications, so technically they can run Tractor, but uh you may have some issues installing Tractor because again, Tractor does have some minimum requirements as far as what um OS operating software that the MacBook uses, so you might run into trouble there, and there might be an issue where you might be able not be able to install the latest tractor version. You might have to do Tractor Pro 3 or even Pro 2, but so yeah, I would have recommend those, you know. If you need one as a as a I don't know, as a backup, maybe you know, but it's a MacBook. And um let's see, and the next one is MacBook Air 2020, has all our minimum qualifications, 284. Look at that. Not bad. So that's even cheaper than one I had. Damn, I should buy this. How big is that screen? It's a 2020, it's a 13-inch screen, uh fair condition, and let's see. Oh, it's not uh the iCore i3, it's an iCore i5. Let's pop that in. Oh, it's 299, okay. So that's 299, memory 8 gigs, 512 have 512 gigabyte storage. Alright, and it's space gray. But 299, look at that. It's it's good, you know, and again, um, you can do zero interest, 12 payments with a firm. Uh again, I'm not paid by any of these people, okay? I I swear to God. But if it's zero interest, why not? I do it. You know, um I prefer to have a little bit more cash in my pocket in case of an emergency. So if I can do zero interest, I'm gonna do zero interest. Fuck it. You know, so look at that. 12 payments of $27. Can you afford $27 a month? Uh hopefully you can. You should have a job. And uh and I again, this is what I'm mentioning to you about DJing. I'm not mentioning this to you as a replacement to your job, but as a side hustle. You should have a job. You know, and this is something you can do on the weekends. And let's see, just look for another one here. But yeah, this is backmarket.com again. These are all refurbished MacBooks. And again, I use MacBooks um because I love them. You know, oh look at this a MacBook Pro 2019 for 312. Damn. Shit, maybe I should get this one. It's a 2019, so it's it is seven years old. But 304, look at that. Uh let me make sure it's right. So it's a 13-inch, fair condition. Uh iCore i7, damn, even a better processor than i5. Memory, 16 gigabytes. Look at that. Storage, 512 gigabytes. Wow. Uh space gray. Alright, and you may be asking, well, what's fair condition? Uh is that fucked up. Let's see what it says. So, anyways, every device is professionally inspected and guaranteed to be 100% functional. There you go. So, you when it when it looks up at the condition, it's it's usually um the body. So, let's see, actually, even says what it's here. It's visible signs of use, there's pictures of it, so there's scratches on the um on the inside and outside. Um, what else? The battery's been verified, so the battery's good, so that's not an issue. And that's important, right? You want to make sure that you get a um a battery that's gonna be working, especially something that that old. So, so yeah, there you go. Restored professionally. What do they restore? Even says right here they restored the battery, the screen, trackpads, keyboards, touch bars, chargers, cables, they cleaned it, fans, ventilation, uh, they cleaned it up, data deletion, cameras working. There you go. So they have every see. So that's why I like this place. It's back market. So again, you want to be a DJ, start there. And again, I like MacBooks because they work, you know, and it doesn't matter if it's a 2019, 2020. Again, the one I'm using right now that I'm recording on right now is a 2018. There you go. You know, and it's it's good for me. I'll probably be buying another one. This is awesome. 2019. So yeah, um, it's good prices, you know, and um again, it's back market, they refurbish them, they guarantee them to work, and then you can get additional stuff like a three-year warranty if you want. And like I said, I believe it was about 70, maybe a hundred bucks more. So you know, it's a it's considerable more more money, but I like insurance. I just want to make sure it works. And then too, I'm uh, you know, sometimes I drop shit, you know, I'm on a gig, so so that's cool. You know, I have the drop protection. I really, really like that. Because you can get into an accident and you never know, you just drop your shit and falls out of your something, and next thing you know, your screen is cracked or you fuck it up, and there you go. You don't have to worry about it. So I bought that too. Alright, so again, um and then the reason why I I chose Tractor with another one I want to mention that to you is because you own it, like I said. You don't ever have to pay a monthly fee. Um, it's gonna work with your MacBook, and you need this laptop again, you want to use it so you can record too. You want to record your mixes, and when we record your mixes, that's uh it's like your your calling card, your business card. So when someone wants to hire you and you know they don't know who the hell you are, maybe you're a friend of a friend, you can just send them a link to your mixtape, you know. And as far as getting your mixtapes out there, there's a couple ways you can do SoundCloud, you know, they have free accounts, you can do use that. Um I don't like SoundCloud. I know people have a lot of success on that, but I I haven't. Um I mean I I have people listen to my stuff, they follow me, but I get so much spam, it's not worth worth it. It's like spam malicious. It's fucking spam city up in there, man. And you know, it's just it's it's it's just annoying to get so many notifications and it's just from all these fake, fake shit, you know, all these fake businesses and everything trying to sell you, I don't know, what is it, uh covers and you know, increase your followers now, all kinds of crazy shit. But you get a lot of that on SoundCloud. Um, I don't know if they've cleaned it up, it's been a couple years since it's been on there, but yeah, you can put it there, but again, yeah, and then um so don't expect like, oh my god, my mix is gonna blow up. I hope it does, but probably won't. And um, but you can use it so you can send a link to someone so they can hear how you play, you know, how you mix your records. And another good thing about tractor, um, I want to mention is you don't need a controller. Man, you probably thought we're thinking, you know, well, what controller mic should I buy? I don't know. Should I buy the Pioneer DDJ uh FX, FLX4? Sure. The FLX2? Sure. You know, I I think I believe you know you have to do a little bit of modifications, you gotta look for the tractor mapping for each controller, but you can, you know, one's 200, the owner's 400. Um, but you do have to check to make sure it works with the tractor software when you buy a controller. And is it fun to use a controller? Yeah, it's really fun. You feel like a real DJ, you know, and when you go do gigs, you'd want to have a controller, you want to look professional, of course, you know, and not rely solely on your laptop. But that's why again I like tractor because you can do everything on your laptop, you do not need a controller, you know. Um, and these mixes that I you hear on the podcast, I I don't use a controller, you know, most of the time. I have uh a 16 butt 16 button MIDI controller that I modified. It's called the MIDI Fighter. So I use that for my stems, but I'm I've actually haven't really been using it for stems either because I've been figuring out how to use the laptop, you know, and um so yeah, you can actually rock a whole party, you know, from your laptop. It won't sound super great because it's coming from your laptop, you know, and that's another reason to get a controller, um, because it um it just sounds better coming from there, you know, and the more money you spend in your controller, the better it's gonna sound with loudspeakers, and then you can buy speakers. But again, this is step one. You want to be a DJ, you want to take it seriously, buy a laptop. And if you want to buy a reliable laptop that I've you that I use, I buy a Mac I have a MacBook Pro. My MacBook Pro from 2018. I have 32 gigabytes processor, I don't know, but I guess it's good, I forgot. But anyway, so yeah, it you know, and then two, um, again, you another reason you want a laptop is because you may need to do some editing. If you're gonna do a podcast like me, I don't know, say you want to do your own Latin House podcast, you know. Um maybe you want to do um the history of Latin House, and every year you can start in the year 2000 and go from there. That'd be awesome. Send me a link, I want to hear that. But if you do, you're gonna be need to record in uh software, and you're gonna again, that's one of the other reasons to have a laptop. So I use Audacity. Audacity is free. I didn't pay one penny for it, you know, and you can get that from the internet, I guess. Google it, Audacity A-U-D-I-C-I-T-Y. And um I use it for to record my voice that you're hearing right now. I use it for effects in case about the microphone I'm using is not great and you know makes my voice sound louder. Um, in case I need to do some editing with the mix, say I fuck up. Most of the time I don't, but every once in a while I do. And so I need to maybe you know start in the middle and cut and slice and edit. I use that, I use Audacity for that too. So if you want to do a podcast and you want to record your voice, um, you're gonna need a laptop. So yeah, and there you go, the basics. So, all in all, you're gonna need about 400 bucks, maybe 450. And um again, another thing I like about back market is you can use a firm and you barely need any sort of credit other than a job. I hope you have a job. And just real quick, you should have a job, you know. Um, whether you're pursuing your dreams of being a DJ or or whatever, a producer, you should have uh income coming in, you know, and if this is really important to you, you do it when you come home from work. Set aside some time, you know. Um whether it's uh an hour a day, or maybe you can just squeeze in 15 minutes. That's sometimes that's enough too. If you're gonna be doing like especially, I don't know, uh bi-weekly podcasts or a monthly podcast, that should be plenty of time, you know. And um, and yeah, it's gonna also you're gonna need learn time to learn your software and everything. But there you go. Alright, another reason to have a laptop. So, um, and then also if you want to do content creation, right? Oh, that's my dog in the background, he's sleeping. That's my gordito, if you can hear that. Gorditos. Well, there you go. Um, and so again, you want to be a DJ and you want to start using the same software I use that I love. It's the effects are amazing. You can look it up on YouTube, all the amazing things you can do with it. Um, the recording, I love the recording because remember in the beginning of this, uh, what I mentioned how if you send me music has to be at a certain volume and uh make sure it sounds loud enough so I can mix it and put it in the mix. Well, Tractor does that for you already. The software that's in that is embedded in this inside that software is amazing. It's native instruments. If you know native instruments, they're the shit when it comes to filtering, um, EQs, uh recording software. They use have the machine, you know, they own that. So uh so yeah, check it out.
