Cst. Patrick Tilma, currently posted to the Terrace RCMP Detachment in British Columbia, shares the struggles during his 14 months off-duty due to PTSD... which includes the unavailability of psychologists, culture toxicity, alcohol use as a coping mechanism, lack of support, and his prayers to die while sleeping.
Patrick also speaks to the necessities that he required to improve his mental health and eventually return to service: exercising, engaging in conversation, not feeling alone, listening to podcasts to learn about himself and PTSD, determining his triggers/activations, training his mind to understand what he can do during anxiety attacks, and losing any sense of ego.
