Cold Open And Last Episode Energy
SPEAKER_01Here's the fun intro, crack the canyon. Here we go. No one knows what we'll even know. Started with a movie plot. Now it's done where we are not. Bad ideas and late night takes. Attitude, tendency, weird mistake. If you can't learn off leads, lower all your expectances. Move it. Don't be a besti for an hour or so. Laugh over something dumb. Don't be a bestie for an hour or so. Laugh over something dumb.
SPEAKER_02World, where everything is unscripted. This is roasty.
SPEAKER_03Have you had morphine, guys? Just a random question. No.
SPEAKER_00No, I thought you were gonna say, have you had morphine?
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Have you had morphine yet? No, I haven't. I'm not that deep into the comedy world. Are you addicted to drugs yet?
SPEAKER_00Not yet.
SPEAKER_05No, okay.
SPEAKER_00Sorry. Morphikas, I did. I had one on Friday, two days ago.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00He was like already working when he got out.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00And was doing like bonus feminion and stuff like that. Which is just kind of funny because I had just seen them film the day before that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Kenny Wanzel.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I guess so. Apparently he was there too.
SPEAKER_05I didn't even That would have been a pretty big deal for me.
SPEAKER_00I know. Oh my god, I was talking to my my fellow students while we were leaving. I was like, you know, Matthias should have been here. Yeah. Like Matias should have been here. You like know everyone.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like you would have known who he was. I didn't recognize him.
SPEAKER_03So you told them about me?
SPEAKER_00Everyone knows about the podcast.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Whether they listen to it, I doubt it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'm probably not.
SPEAKER_00But they know about it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00Everyone knows.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00They just don't care. No. Which is perfectly fine because today's the last episode.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it is.
SPEAKER_00Second to last, if you want to be technical. But whatever. Should we open this up?
SPEAKER_03Maybe we should.
SPEAKER_00Can we please get this over with within the next one and a half hour?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Alright. Let's open this up.
SPEAKER_03Yep. A pretty good one.
SPEAKER_00Blub blub blub. Chairs.
SPEAKER_03Chairs for the last time.
SPEAKER_00Forever. Forever chairs. I'm gonna make um movie. Movie called Chairs Forever. I was gonna just say like a canvas. That just says chairs forever. But maybe a movie will be fun too. I do have an idea.
SPEAKER_04I'm thinking like dragons forever.
SPEAKER_00Dragons forever. It's just chairs.
SPEAKER_04Chairs forever.
SPEAKER_00Chairs that are shaped like dragons.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00How cool. I want one of those. You know what? The thing is that ever since 9-11 happened this year, it didn't happen again. Well, it happens every year, but we don't recognize that.
SPEAKER_04Not the terrorist attacks. No. It's not a tradition.
SPEAKER_00It's like every year on 9-11, there's another plane that just crashes into another skyscraper in this in in New York. It's a fun little thing that we like to do.
SPEAKER_05And they keep building the skyscrapers.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and they rebuild everything. It's a little expensive. But ever since, like all of the reels and shorts and stuff I get on Facebook, it's all 9-11. It's all like uh footage and the news and everything. It's like that was like three weeks ago. Why am I still getting this?
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00Like today I'm still getting it. I'm pretty sure if I open up my phone wherever the heck it went, oh, it's hiding. It's hiding. Oh, it was camouflaged. It was camouflaged. I'm gonna open up Facebook right now. Oh, I get Tim Curry. Okay, well that's okay. That's not a problem. If I go down to like the random reels, I get things that I usually watch, and there's Michael Jackson. But there's always okay, well now that I just now that I said it out loud. Oh wait, what's this? Oh South Tower. See? 9-11. Something 9-11 just pops up. And cats and people with ADHD.
SPEAKER_059-11 and cats.
SPEAKER_00Yep. Oh my god, I get these things too. You need to lose weight. Alright. Fine.
SPEAKER_03Just gonna have Fika first.
SPEAKER_00I need toast. And then I'm going to lose weight.
Welcome And Facing The Finale
SPEAKER_00Hello and welcome to Roasty Toasty Ghostie. For the last time almost ever. My name is Lauren.
SPEAKER_03And I am Matias.
SPEAKER_00And we are going to be your besties for the last time almost ever.
SPEAKER_03For the last hour or so.
SPEAKER_00For the last hour or so. Ever. Yeah. Or something. Almost.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Chairs forever.
SPEAKER_00Chairs forever. How are you handling this?
SPEAKER_03Uh I mean, it's uh it's so, you know.
SPEAKER_00It's great.
SPEAKER_03It's great. But it's sad. Yeah. Uh yeah. I mean, it's uh it's a double-edged sword. Yeah, I guess so. That's not what I was trying, but uh uh yeah, that's what I meant.
SPEAKER_00I think so. If I were to translate you, that's probably what I would say.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You require a translator.
SPEAKER_03What did I just say?
SPEAKER_00You're right, Lauren.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Okay, that's it, I guess.
SPEAKER_00I'm also good. Thank you for asking. Okay. Um what are you up to? How are you? I'm good. Also, also good. Also salt. Also.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. What did you say?
SPEAKER_00We did not watch The Little Rascals today.
SPEAKER_03Not today.
SPEAKER_00We have seen it though. Yes. That's pretty cool. And that's all we're gonna talk about today is how we have watched this one movie.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and it's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_00It is pretty cool.
Life Overload And Writing Things Down
SPEAKER_00I'm good. I am uh I'm I'm doing a lot of things. A lot of things are happening, and a lot of things I am forgetting that I that are happening. And uh no matter how organized I think I am, I'm always not organized.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's like I feel like every time someone talks to me, every time I am reminded of something, I really should be writing things down. Like I talked to Matthias, we talked about this. Maybe remember that we talked about this, so I can do that later. I'm gonna forget.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you need to remember. Yeah, to like write everything down like you do with the like an A D.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I I need a life breakdown.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Alright.
SPEAKER_03I really need to number everything.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. No, no, I think you're right. And I'm thinking of how I'm gonna do it now, but I'm not gonna do it.
SPEAKER_03No, yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_00Oh my goodness. Okay. Now I want to, though.
SPEAKER_05Right now?
SPEAKER_00I feel like I really want to.
SPEAKER_05We're never gonna record this.
SPEAKER_00I know, but hold on, I have to design this PDF.
SPEAKER_03You're procat procrastinating this uh procatenating. Okay. Pro cats. Castrating.
SPEAKER_00I'm pro-cats.
SPEAKER_03Pro castrating.
SPEAKER_00Cats. I don't know. Alright.
Studio Field Trip And On Set Chaos
SPEAKER_00Well, it's a good thing. I went to school this week. I I did a I went on a field trip to a studios. St a studio.
SPEAKER_03A studios.
SPEAKER_00Uh plural.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00And it was really cool, and I saw them film a scene to a show, and it was it was a car scene, and it was really cool.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Not a car sh chase, but it wasn't a chase, no.
SPEAKER_00It was just the guy, apparently who is a celebrity.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I know him.
SPEAKER_00I've seen him before. Yeah. I didn't recognize him. But we were in the same room. Yeah. I didn't I didn't really think. I've seen that guy on TV before. It was more like, is that the actor?
SPEAKER_05Who's that guy?
SPEAKER_00Who's that guy? And then there was like a younger guy who walked in the room and was like, okay, who are you? Are you the actor? They both were actors.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Didn't know until they were filming, and then I was like, Oh, they must be the actors. Why are they filming the AD? This doesn't make sense.
SPEAKER_05You're supposed to be on the floor giggling.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. No, that's what I do. Yeah. I have a hard time not laughing when I'm supposed to be serious.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That was my highlight for the week, and I just I ruined everything. It was my highlight for the week.
SPEAKER_03Okay, yes.
SPEAKER_00I think. Uh there were other things that happened. I don't remember.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_00But that was the biggest thing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And it was exciting.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I didn't do much. I just worked evenings.
SPEAKER_00But you like that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I do.
SPEAKER_00So you had a good week.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And you got to do something different. A different a new machine.
SPEAKER_03Yes, a new machine at work. And I thought it was kind of fun.
SPEAKER_00Is that your favorite machine now? Out of all the machines? Is that the favorite?
SPEAKER_03Maybe not the favorite, actually. I I do like box folder machines.
SPEAKER_00That is pretty cool.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That will always be a good machine.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, that uh that was that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. We also did a special project yesterday.
SPEAKER_00We did some filming.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yesterday.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god. I'm the actor.
SPEAKER_00You're the actor.
SPEAKER_03Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_00It's not good.
SPEAKER_03Not good. I noticed that I don't like acting.
SPEAKER_00You know what? I also noticed that I don't like you acting. We already knew this.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00We knew what would happen. And it happened. And well, we'll see what happens later.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I suck.
SPEAKER_00I don't think you really suck. There were some takes that actually I think turned out pretty good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00They're not all garbage.
SPEAKER_03I feel like one of the best takes I got the wrong shirt on.
SPEAKER_00Probably.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's what happens.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh I was first director or assistant director and uh sound. And I did craft.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And the giggler.
SPEAKER_00I wasn't actually I didn't get my giggling on the microphone.
SPEAKER_03No, but I heard it once. At least once. Sorry. But uh yes.
SPEAKER_00It's hard to stay serious all the time. I don't like it.
SPEAKER_03You were right at my feet too.
SPEAKER_00I was laying on the floor covering the microphone job.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00There was that. What else did I do? Or was that pretty much it?
SPEAKER_03Well, you did the box.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah. I was uh ghost another assistant on set. Yeah. Well, we were only like four people, so you have to take several roles.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh we did that and it was kind of fun. It was kind of fun. We're gonna continue in a couple hours.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh so we gotta get this rolling. We watched movies yesterday too.
SPEAKER_03We did.
SPEAKER_00So would you like to movion?
SPEAKER_03Let's move on.
Two Quick Movie Reactions
SPEAKER_03Okay. For the last time.
SPEAKER_00The last time almost ever. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Happy 200.
SPEAKER_03Happy 200.
SPEAKER_00Kind of.
SPEAKER_03Kind of. Almost.
SPEAKER_00Last episode. Last movie on. Almost ever.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. We're saying. It's just gonna be the thing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Today is September 20th, 2026. It is Sunday today. We watched movies yesterday, which was Saturday. We watched two movies.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_00We watched Paul Blart, Molkop.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And this is a weird title.
SPEAKER_03This one I'm struggling with too.
SPEAKER_00Okay, okay, okay. Compromising positions. Which is the one we watched first.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Is this on your side?
SPEAKER_03That's on your side.
SPEAKER_00It's on my side. Okay. So we're switching it up a bit.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Okay. I thought I should put Susan Soran on your side.
SPEAKER_00Alright. I agree. You can have James Martin. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, okay. Two first names, so I guess.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so please tell me about compromising positions. Yes. Okay. The almost last time.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but the almost last time. So this movie is about a murder.
SPEAKER_00Someone Susan Surandon.
SPEAKER_03Susan Sarandon didn't murder anyone, but she did not even get murdered. No. She's trying to solve this murder on a dentist who is like what was the word we used last time? Promising. Promiscuous. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Promiscuous.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. That's the word.
SPEAKER_00He likes the ladies.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah, and that makes him a dead guy.
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_00That's what happens. When you like a lot of ladies, you end up dead.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Susan Sarandon starts investigating this murder. And uh then there's also a real policeman because she's like a former journalist, right? And then there's a real police guy who also investigating and they cooperate together. Yeah, cooperate, work together trying to solve this case. Yeah. That's what the movie's about, really.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and it's kind of funny because uh Susan Srandon knows like everyone, yeah, pretty much, especially all the ladies who are involved.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Which is kind of weird. Do you think that she um was too into it? Like you think that maybe she should have just like heard about the news and was like, oh wow, okay. Yeah, maybe like everyone else.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, in a way, yeah. Because she she was also a patient of this dentist guy, so she could just have been a suspect herself. So yeah, in a way.
SPEAKER_00Do you think that the movie would have been less interesting if she did respond that way and was just like, oh wow, okay, and that just ignored it, and that was the end of the movie? Would you find that less interesting than the movie that has been a lot of the other things? Yeah, maybe, maybe, you know. If she just like dropped it.
SPEAKER_03Maybe, yeah, that would have been a shorter movie.
SPEAKER_00It would have been.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Well, it it wouldn't really have been about her. No, I think. Or maybe it's like her life like but not solving the case.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I guess.
SPEAKER_03So yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's like, oh wow, okay.
SPEAKER_05And then the movie just goes on with her fighting with her husband and yeah, no one uh hear about the no one hears about the case.
SPEAKER_00Maybe like at the end, yeah you see in the news, like, oh, it was this guy that killed him. Solved it, and she's like, oh wow, that's good. And then starts arguing with her husband about something else, I guess. I did not like him. No. I didn't like her husband. He was uh I don't know. He I didn't like him. That's all.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_00He was uh Yeah. He made everything about himself, and I mean I'm pretty sure underneath it all they both appreciate each other and what they do and put into the family.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But I mean it's it's a common issue because I feel like I have the same issues at home here too. Because I mean, uh I come home and it seems like he hasn't done anything, but obviously he's doing everything. Yeah. And then I leave and he feels like I'm not doing anything, but I'm like out trying to build a career.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I mean you don't really see the other person's point of view all the time.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00But so it's like so easy to say like you don't do anything. I don't see you doing anything.
SPEAKER_03No, yeah, that's true. But I mean, that guy in the movie is also worried because they get like threatened, and uh, you know, uh that I guess that scares him too. Like Yeah. And he don't want her to get, you know, into trouble by doing that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and she was getting into trouble because that police guy was getting all over her.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00I I saw it coming, I knew it. I knew it.
SPEAKER_03But it didn't happen.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_03Did you like the movie?
SPEAKER_00I think I did.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I liked one of the girls, at least. She was funny.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah. I think I liked the movie. I I like seeing Susan Sarandon and the Victoria. That was nice. Yeah. What did you think?
SPEAKER_03Uh I mean i it was good, but I kinda expected it to be better. I kinda wanted it to be a a little bit funnier. It wasn't really on that much on the funny side.
SPEAKER_00What made you think it was gonna be funny?
SPEAKER_03Uh, because it it wasn't labeled as uh comedy mystery on like IMDB.
SPEAKER_00Maybe some people thought it was funny.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It wasn't you.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_00No, you weren't one of those people.
SPEAKER_03No, I mean it had maybe some funny parts, but it wasn't I thought it was It was the one girl who was funny. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That was the that's what made it a comedy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I guess so. Alright, I'm gonna tell you about the other movie. Yeah. Sorry, I'm gonna start rushing. Yeah. Um, so Paul Blart m movie cop is about Rick James, who uh is Kevin James. Mulkoff.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Who's Rick James?
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Isn't he a singer? Maybe. Okay. Ricky Martin. Ricky Martin was also in this movie.
SPEAKER_04You you called Kevin James James Martin before. Yeah. No it's Rick James.
SPEAKER_00Ricky Martin played uh mall cop and he uh falls in love with a girl and uh some bad guys take over the mall and he saves the day. He beats some bad guys up, I guess. Yeah. Like Jackie Chan.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like he used to.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Are you crying?
SPEAKER_00We used to watch movies about bad guys getting beaten up all the time. Yeah. And now it's just murder mysteries and comedies. Comedies.
SPEAKER_03Don't worry, we're gonna watch movies about that, but we're not gonna talk about them.
SPEAKER_00No, we're not gonna talk about these things. Okay, so that's what happened. What do you think about the movie?
SPEAKER_03I uh this one, uh Paul Blart, I love this one. It's so funny. I loved it uh uh ever since I first saw it when it came out. I don't think I saw it at cinemas, unfortunately, but it's a really funny movie. I really love it.
SPEAKER_00Cool.
SPEAKER_03What did you think?
SPEAKER_00Uh I remember when this movie came out.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh I remember it was a big deal. Uh it was 2009.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I was in school. That's how long ago it was.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, me too.
SPEAKER_00A long time ago.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, but yeah, I like the movie. I like the movie. I think it's it is kind of funny. And uh watching Ricky Martin on a what are those things called? Uh a speed wagon.
SPEAKER_05Speed wagon, yeah. REO.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, they were playing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. His brother was singing REO.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Oh my god. Segway. Segway. Yeah. He was riding one of those. It was kind of funny.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I like the movie.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And so do you.
SPEAKER_03Uh yeah, I love this movie. Good.
SPEAKER_00All right. Anything else?
SPEAKER_03No, I don't think so.
SPEAKER_00Adam Sandler did work on this.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. His wife was in. His wife was in the movie. And so was Kevin James's wife.
SPEAKER_00Kevin James was also in this movie.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00His wife and his brother.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's fun. Alright.
SPEAKER_03Alright.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was a good movie.
SPEAKER_03Good movie.
SPEAKER_00Anything else?
SPEAKER_03Uh no.
SPEAKER_00We're gonna take a break. Yes. Because there's noise.
SPEAKER_03Let's take a break.
SPEAKER_00Bye.
SPEAKER_03Bye-bye.
Kangaroo Review Rules And Setup
SPEAKER_00We're back. We're back. We're back. Okay. Hello. Hello. Okay. We don't have a lot of time to do this.
SPEAKER_05No.
SPEAKER_00But we're gonna get through it as quickly as we possibly can. So for this last episode, we are going to do our kangaroo views that we assigned each other last
Anger Management Plot Breakdown
SPEAKER_00episode.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So uh please start off with the movie that I gave you, Anger Management.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So what we're gonna do is we're basic basically going to uh have a breakdown of the entire movie.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_00So please tell me what you have.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, this is Anger Management from 2003. It's directed by Peter Segal. This movie is uh directed by Adam Sander starring Adam Sander, Jack Nicholson, and Marissa Tomei.
SPEAKER_05Yep, yep.
SPEAKER_03Uh the movie starts in 1978. The young Adam Sander character Dave Busnick is uh sitting on a curb uh doodling in his notebook. Then he meets and talks to a girl who wants to play Truth or Daru.
SPEAKER_00Daru? Truth or Daro?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no, uh Truth or Dare. I think it's supposed to be.
SPEAKER_00No, I'm I think you had it right the first time. Truth or Daru.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, she wants to play that. And uh there's a lot of kids around and people, and then she wants uh him to kiss her. And uh she wants everyone to see. So just as he goes in for the for the kiss, uh bully pulls down his pants and everyone laughs at him.
SPEAKER_00Not good. That would make me mad too.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, even adults laugh at him.
SPEAKER_00That's not okay.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_03So then cut two. Twenty-five years later, Dave is at an airport with his girlfriend, uh Linda.
SPEAKER_00Dave?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Dave.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03Did I say something else?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Who's Dave?
SPEAKER_03The uh Adam Sandler character Dave Busnick.
SPEAKER_00Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_03From the beginning.
SPEAKER_00So Dave is Adam Sandler. Yeah. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_03Now uh twenty-five years later he turned to uh Adam Sandler.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um that's how it works.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I just have a few more years to go.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Until I turn into Adam Sandler too.
SPEAKER_03Twenty five in twenty-five years.
SPEAKER_00In twenty-five years, all right.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay, that's fine.
SPEAKER_03And uh he's at the airport with his girlfriend, Linda, and he's talking to his boss on the phone, and then the boss hangs up in his ear.
SPEAKER_00Mean.
SPEAKER_03Yep. And uh then Dave have to go on uh go on a flight, and uh they're about to kiss, but uh creepy boss? No, him and Linda. Oh, okay. Dave and Linda are are about to kiss. Okay, and there's a creepy guy in the background watching them, so he doesn't want to kiss.
SPEAKER_00Is that Nicholson? What Dave is staring in the background.
SPEAKER_03No, Dave doesn't want to kiss. Oh, gross. So they just like shake hands and say goodbye. That's good. And then uh he gets on the plane and a passenger has taken his seat, Dave's seat. Okay. So he has to sit uh next to the creepy guy uh who is Jack Nicholson. Um and uh his name is Buddy Rydell in the movie, and he's a very obnoxious travel partner. He laughs out loud when watching movies.
SPEAKER_00Not good. No, don't do that.
SPEAKER_03And I mean Dave just wants to sleep, but uh since that's impossible, he just kinda watched the movie uh and uh then he asks the stewardess for headphones, and she doesn't really bring him that, so he then politely tries to remind her about the headphones, and uh then she says he's too aggressive and then the airplane police.
SPEAKER_00Oh, the airplane police show up.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, steps in to uh to even escalate the situation even further by accusing Dave of being racist.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_03Uh interesting. Yeah. He uh Dave says, What's wrong with you people? And uh the guy was black, so uh what do you mean you people?
SPEAKER_00Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_03So Dave uh ends up being tased by the uh airplane police.
SPEAKER_00Hmm.
SPEAKER_03Air Marshal, they said and later said in the movie, but I didn't remember that word.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03Uh so the incident takes them to court, and Dave's attorney is Kevin Nealan.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03Uh so Dave is of course found guilty and is ordered to undergo anger management therapy, and then he uh goes to the anger management therapy and uh he uh sees that the obnoxious Buddy Rydell from the airplane is actually Dr. Buddy Rydell and he's the anger manager.
SPEAKER_00Uh-huh. Right.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So he he's the leader of the group. I I don't even know. Teacher? What would you call that? Anger management um leader.
SPEAKER_00Um, like a counselor?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, maybe that's that's counselor.
SPEAKER_00Can I interrupt you for a second? Yeah. Because I just looked up if there are airplane police. Yeah. I'm just curious. And we're here to learn, right? There are airplane police. Okay. Yeah. They are undercover. Uh uh air marshals fly aboard commercial passenger flights dressed in plain clothes. They blend in with regular pl passengers, and their identity is kept strictly confidential to maintain security.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean, this guy was kind of uh like uh undercover.
SPEAKER_00So that's cool. That's good to know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I got it right.
SPEAKER_00All right, yay! Sorry about that. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_03And yeah, at the meeting, there's a lot of, let's say, interesting characters, such as John Torturo, the guy who plays Pete.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, oh brother.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And uh Louise Guzman, who uh Oh, that's Wednesday's yeah, Gomez Adams. Yeah. Oh yeah. I s I recently saw two Gomez Adams.
SPEAKER_00He was in the movie that we watched yesterday. Yes.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that was the other that was Raul Julia.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So um to calm them down, Buddy uses a silly word.
SPEAKER_00Silly word.
SPEAKER_03Goose Fraba.
SPEAKER_00Goose Frabba.
SPEAKER_03Goose Frava.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03After the meeting, Buddy tells Dave that they need to double his time at anger management, and he's assigned John Totoro as an anger ally.
SPEAKER_00Ah.
SPEAKER_03That's great.
SPEAKER_00Great.
SPEAKER_03And because I mean, um, John Toturo is really angry. Yeah, he's not easy to deal with. No. Uh he's uh explosive. Uh Dave later come home with Linda and uh then uh John Totoro come bussing because he's angry because he'd been fired from his i ice cream truck job.
SPEAKER_00That is not good. No, I would be really sad. I would cry.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean that's like the best job, right?
SPEAKER_00That's like your life is over. If you get fired from ice cream, yeah, not good. Not good.
SPEAKER_03So now Dave has to get a drink with John Totoro to calm him down, I guess. And John Totoro uh he's talking about being in war and stuff, and um then uh John Totoro starts a fight at the bar.
SPEAKER_00In the bar.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Dave tries to stop the fight and accidentally knocks out a waitress. Yeah, with a cane from a blind man.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_03The incident takes them to court, and uh the judge wants uh Dave to go to prison, but and attorney uh Kevin Nealan doesn't really help, of course. Uh in steps Dr. Buddy Rydell.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03He talks to the judge. The sentence sentence is now to follow Buddy's program strictly, or else Dave will end up in prison. Later, Buddy moves in with Dave against his will. Buddy have a list of things Dave can't use, listen to, or consume. Not even crack cocaine.
SPEAKER_00Oh no. What's he gonna do? What are his options?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I don't know. And uh he's not allowed to use sarcasm either.
SPEAKER_06Hmm.
SPEAKER_03Uh since Dave only have one bed, they uh have to share bed and Buddy sleeps in the nude.
SPEAKER_00He likes to be comfortable.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Too comfortable. Buddy wakes Dave up 30 minutes earlier than needed because he wants Dave to make him breakfast. Buddy doesn't like uh the breakfast, so he throws the plate and everything against the wall.
SPEAKER_00Oh, he got really mad.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, okay. I would also get mad if you make me something for breakfast that I don't want, that not specifically what I wanted at that moment. Yeah, I'm gonna throw things at the wall too.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00Screw you and your dumb breakfast. Give me what I wanted. Yeah. And yeah, you need to read my mind. I'm not gonna tell you what I want. You have to guess. Yeah. If you're wrong, then oh manga.
SPEAKER_03And now they're on the way to Dave's work and he's in a hurry, so Buddy stops the car on I think it's Brooklyn Bridge.
SPEAKER_00We've been there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, we were under it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we've seen it.
SPEAKER_00We've seen it. It was so cool.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And then uh he makes Dave sing I feel pretty from West Side Story.
SPEAKER_00That's where you first heard it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it is.
SPEAKER_00And you couldn't remember the movie, and then you remembered it. Yeah. And then you sent me the video. Yeah. And then we watched the movie. And then we heard the song, and we saw the other movie, and it had a different version of the song. And then we watched Anger Management and you heard the song again. Yeah. And then you watched Anger Management again and heard the song again. I've heard the song.
SPEAKER_03And then you told me about it million times.
SPEAKER_00And then you told me about it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So it's a musical.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, of course it is.
SPEAKER_03At work, Dave's boss acknowledged that he's late. Buddy tells the boss, Mr. Head, that uh Dave is in anger management. Then we see what Dave does for a living. He designed clothes for overweight cats.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they also need clothes.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Buddy then sees a picture of Linda and almost starts drooling over it. Now Dave wants to gather some evidence that Buddy is insane and is overstepping boundaries. Yeah, he wants to record Buddy when he tells Dave to take his clothes off. Dave questioned why he wants his clothes off. Now Buddy thinks Dave is a homophobe, so then they go to meet a transvestite. Played by Woody Harrelson.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. That's funny.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Dave is good. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Dave gets smacked around a little by the transvestite. Yeah. Then uh Galaxia.
SPEAKER_00Galaxia. Very nice.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Is asked to leave by Buddy. So that was that.
SPEAKER_00By beating him up. Yeah. That's how she asked him to leave. Yeah. Can you please leave?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's just gonna beat you up now. Yeah. Then uh later when Buddy's in the shower, he gets a call on his cell phone. Dave picks up, Buddy's uh assistant says that Buddy's mom is gonna have a minor surgery. Now Dave tells Buddy that his mom uh is at a hospital having surgery, making it sound more serious than it is. Now Buddy starts breaking down crying. Dave tells Buddy that the serious part was just a joke. Uh now Buddy and Dave are going to Boston so Buddy can see his mother.
SPEAKER_00We've been there too.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Someone parked tightly behind Buddy, so he smashes that car's side window and put uh it in neutral. Then he bumps that car and it falls from the parking house roof. Parking garage, only parking garage roof and uh crashes.
SPEAKER_00That is so funny. Yeah, well that's what they get.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, if they do that, yeah, we'll get it. Yeah. Now they're off to Boston. Dave tells Buddy how he's gonna propose to Linda, and then later at the hospital they found out that Buddy's mom had a jelly bean removed from her nose.
SPEAKER_06Oh.
SPEAKER_03That was the surgery.
SPEAKER_06Oh, okay, gross.
SPEAKER_03So then they go out eating dinner. Buddy sees an attractive lady and tells Dave to flirt with her or he'll end up in prison. It doesn't go well. Now Buddy wants him to go again and be confident. And he tells uh Dave to say these strange things. And if she turns him down again, Buddy will release release Dave from the program. Dave tries again, this time she's interested. They uh they talk a little and then Dave sees that Buddy's gone. Now he has to go with the attractive lady. Uh Dave tries to look up Buddy in the phone book, and the attractive lady Kendra strips down to her underwear. He tells her that he got a girlfriend, so but she thinks he thinks she's fat.
SPEAKER_06Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_03So she starts throwing food at him and yells at him to get out of there. He later finds where Buddy stays. Buddy says Linda called earlier and he told her that Dave was out with another woman. That's nice. Yeah, that's good. Good buddy. Nobody tells Dave that he arranged the pickup with Kendra. She's an ex-patient of his, uh, an actress. Uh it was uh revenge for the joke about Buddy's mother's surgery earlier, but he still talked to Linda about him being out with this girl. Uh Dave is furious with Buddy, of course. On the way back, Buddy let uh Dave know that he explained everything to Linda. Buddy wants Dave to confront his uh old bully, uh who's now a Buddhist monk. Buddy brings a gun. The former bully is now very peaceful and he apologizes for most things he did, except for pulling down Dave's pants in front of the girl at the beginning.
SPEAKER_00Who who played that character?
SPEAKER_03Uh John C. Riley.
SPEAKER_00Right! Oh so good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah now Buddy steps in and escalates the situation and starts uh anger the bully monk. Bully monk is now Bully Monk. I like that. Yeah, bully monk now punched Dave and they start fighting. Now Buddy pulls uh the gun on the other monks. Uh turns out it's a water gun. Buddy and Dave now have to outrun the monks and drive off. Then Dave talks to Linda, he wants to propose but can't do it. Linda says that Buddy won't don't want Linda and Dave to see each other for a while to strengthen their relationship. Dave confronts Buddy about it. Somehow Buddy convinces Dave to the anger management. Guys later tells Dave that Linda is dating someone else. He then makes a fake date with two of the girls from the anger management. Now it turns out uh Linda is dating Buddy. Not good.
SPEAKER_00Nope, not good.
SPEAKER_03Dave takes Buddy to the side to confront him. Buddy tells Dave that he just wants to prevent Linda's friend Andrew to date her. Uh Buddy says that he he will be boring and obnoxious to make Dave look better. Dave is waiting and eventually Buddy shows up and tells him that he and Linda started arguing, but uh they ended up making out. Buddy gets gets a call, then he tells Dave that he's free from the program and also that he and Linda has fallen for each other.
SPEAKER_00Of course.
SPEAKER_03Yep. Dave thinks it's a joke, but unfortunately not. So Dave attacks Buddy. The incident takes them to court. Dave gets a restraining order from Buddy. He can't come come closer than 500 feet. Now Dave has to get to the office being yelled at by his boss. Linda's friend Andrew comes in saying Buddy is taking Linda to the Yankee game. He's stealing Dave's proposal idea. Dave is kind of threatening, pro persuading his boss to give him promotion in the company for uh after he gets out from jail. Now he's going to the Yankee game where Buddy and Linda are. He meets Wood Harrelson there. Not uh Galaxia. Not Galaxia, he's uh in He's a man. He's a man there. And uh he lets her run out on the field to get the microphone. Or yeah, that's what he does. He calls for Linda, who's in the audience. He then sees Linda and then gets tackled. Mayor Giuliani wants Dave to finish what he's saying. Dave tells Linda that he loves her, uh in more words than that, and proposes. Linda says that before she decides she has uh he has to kiss her in front of all the people. Uh he runs up to her and kisses her and everyone cheers. Buddy congratulates them both.
SPEAKER_00And it was a big deal because he didn't like kissing in public.
SPEAKER_03Exactly.
SPEAKER_00Because of the monk bully. Yeah. Bully monk.
SPEAKER_03Bully monk. Yeah, they never kissed before this. Yeah. They almost kissed a couple times, but never actually did. Yeah, okay, okay. Uh in front of people. Yeah. Linda then confesses that this was all set up by her and buddy. After everything, all the anger management people and Linda are in the park. Uh, then a guy with a gun shows up. He says his car was wrecked from the parking garage. Uh Dave tells him to shoot him first. It was uh just a water gun.
SPEAKER_06Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_03It was a joke. Uh yeah, because they start singing I feel pretty instead. Oh yeah. It was uh another joke on Buddy. Then they all join in the song and the movie ends.
SPEAKER_00Very cool. Yeah.
What Still Bugs Us About Buddy
SPEAKER_00Alright. Good job.
SPEAKER_03Thank you.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so your problem with this movie before was that Jack Nicholson was annoying. Yeah. Uh, how do you feel about the movie now?
SPEAKER_03I mean, I uh it feels better, but I mean I he does overstep his boundaries. Yes. He definitely do, and he's um still a little bit annoying.
SPEAKER_00Alright, I'm going to tell you about Here.
Here Fun Facts And Big Concept
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_00With Tom Hanks. Okay. So I did figure out how to rearrange all the scenes into chronological order.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00And that is how I'm going to tell the story today.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, cool.
SPEAKER_00Alright, so my presentation on Here, made in 2024, or at least released in 2024.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00This movie is an hour 45 minutes. Nope, 44 minutes. Sorry. I went through IMDB and pulled up a few points, uh, some fun facts about the movie. Their summary is this is a generational story about families and the special place they inhabit. Sharing in Love, Loss, Laughter, and Life. Alright, the movie uh reunites eight cast and crew members from Forrest Gump. Oh, okay. From 94.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, who is Jenny.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Director Robert Zemeckis. Screenwriter, Eric Roth, cinematographer, Dom Burgess, composer Alan Silvestri.
SPEAKER_06Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Sound designer Randy Thor Thom.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00And costume designer Joanna Johnston.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00That's cool. Okay. So there are various storylines of here that take place roughly in the ice age. Pre-Columbian, 1776, 1900, 1910, 1940, 1945, to present, because you've got the whole Tom Hanks things there. And then another one in 2010 and then 2020. But they're always in the same small spot of the earth.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00This next point, not a hundred percent sure about, but I thought it was kind of interesting. But then when I went back, I found that it wasn't really true.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00I don't know a hundred percent, but what it says is that the movie only shows Robin Wright and Tom Hanks' real faces at the one hour mark. Uh during most of the film, their faces are de-aged or with makeup for aging up. When I went back to the exact one hour mark, they weren't even in the scene.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00So, or maybe they were, but they were still like, I don't know. It wasn't So maybe There is probably a point when they have their actual faces, but it's not one actual fact. Hour 0000.
SPEAKER_03No, okay. It's around there.
SPEAKER_00Right. This movie is based on a comic book called Here by Richard Maguire.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It was first published as a strip in the comics magazine Raw in 1989 and then expanded into a graphic novel in 2014. And there is a scene where Rose, which I'll talk about her later, uh wanders into the room asking, Now why did I come in here again? That comes from the comic book. It's the opening line of the comic book. So I thought that was interesting.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Another thing that I thought that you would appreciate is uh the word here is spoken by characters approximately 39 times.
SPEAKER_03Oh. Yeah, we I remember us like, they said the thing.
SPEAKER_00They said the thing. Uh the DVD release has deleted scenes, including one where sometime in the future the house and everything surrounded it is destroyed by a massive tidal wave. The address of the house, I only have a couple more points here. Uh the address of the house is 140 Kearney Ave, Perth Amboy, New Jersey.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00So it's in New Jersey, but the actual house in the story is in Pennsylvania.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Because uh now I kind of want to look it up.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But I don't think the house across the street is actually there.
SPEAKER_03No, okay.
SPEAKER_00The budget for this movie was $45 million. Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Uh but that's less than I thought.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but the gross worldwide, what they got in, was a little over 16 million. Not great. Especially when you think of all that CGI that went into this movie. The movie is about 70% CGI.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and I And I just turned off my notes. So if they're gonna break even, they need to double the budget. So yeah.
SPEAKER_00Sorry, didn't happen. No. Alright, this is my chronological order of the movie here, and I do have a couple points where I am going to wander away a bit, but I'm gonna come back. As quickly as I possibly can, we start off in the dinosaur age. Yeah. Where uh everything turns into fire and destruction after the meteor strikes. It calms down and then transitions into the ice age. The snow eventually melts and green life begins to grow, like plants, trees, and a hummingbird. Remember the hummingbird.
SPEAKER_03Okay, yes. That's where the hummingbird starts.
SPEAKER_00That's where it starts.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Alright, so the next timeline is pre-Columbian, or as I like to say, the Amendians.
SPEAKER_03Everyone knows that one.
SPEAKER_00Everyone knows what the Amendians are. If you don't then start from episode one.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00There's an Indian couple. Sorry, I'm gonna call them Indians, but for a lack of better words. An Indian couple sits on a rock. The man gives the woman a nice necklace. They kiss and get really into it. And then, I mean, like, these are just like slices of scenes that I just put in order. She gets pregnant, their baby is shown to the moon like Simba in the Lion King. Oh, okay. And I'm pretty sure I mentioned that while we were watching the movie the first time. Yeah. This is a lion. Uh, it's a baby. The woman is shown being carried on a board. She's dead, her necklace is still on, and they are all sad.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Her husband sits on a rock, mourning her loss. He sees a hummingbird flittering around. Side note, because I did in a panic ask open eyes to go through all of the scenes for me, and uh it picked up on some things that I did not. Okay. I I most of this is me, and I'm just taking some individual sentences from that.
SPEAKER_03Taking help from AI is good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, sometimes it's good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00When you don't have that much time to think for yourself, then uh here we go. Uh AI, open eyes, says the film suggests that it the hummingbird represents her spirit.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00Or love and memory continue continuing after death. We go into 1776-ish. There is a large building, I'm gonna call it a mansion, being built across the street, and we see slaves digging and working. A house next to the mansion has caught on fire, and everyone wants to see what's going on. A colonial man and a woman are walking down the road. Okay, the man is William, Ben Franklin's son.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00He doesn't care for his father's decisions, trying to overthrow the crown. He and his father often argue over politics. A couple of kids throw a tomato at him. He doesn't like that. They threw a tomato at him because he's wearing a red coat. Okay, I did go back and uh ask about this storyline as well. And turns out Benjamin Franklin and his son William ended up on opposing sides of the American Revolution. At first, they both were on the British side. They both supported uh the king and everything. And then Ben Franklin changed his mind. He went back and started supporting the states, the American Revolution.
SPEAKER_03Those are the blue.
SPEAKER_00The blue, right. So that's why they fought a lot. They did not get along because William stayed loyal to the king. So that was that. William is not impressed with his father and says no one will remember him. Ben Franklin is sitting with Temple, his grandson, William's son, who ended up going back to Ben Franklin, because there was a whole storyline of them going back and forth between like the States to London to France. I don't know. They were a little bit everywhere.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00Which is weird because I mean, must take a really long time. They don't have airplanes.
SPEAKER_03No, not back then.
SPEAKER_00Not yet. I'm gonna get there. Um, so uh Temple eventually chose his grandfather over his father. But in this scene, Ben Franklin is sitting with Temple, his grandson. The carriage is stuck and the driver is struggling to fix it, but they don't really seem to care. Temple begs Ben not to argue politics with his father. Uh, we see that the British have surrendered, which was a funny scene because one of the guys off to the side was like, Okay, well, now what? Like, oh yay, the the British have surrendered. It's like, okay, what do we do now?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Now what?
SPEAKER_05This is all I know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. There's a big celebration with fireworks. And then I thought it was kind of cool that in the same shot, there's like a window frame, not like an actual window, but like a frame of a more modern Independence Day fireworks celebration. So they had like the 76 fireworks celebration with like the more modern celebration in the same shot. It was really cool.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Alright, so that was the end of that.
Here Through History In One Room
SPEAKER_001900. The house the story is based on is being built by white men. And then the house is done being built. That's what I wrote.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh 1910. Ten years later, I guess. I guess it took 10 years to build it. I don't know. A rich, fancy couple looks at the house. The husband complains about the milkman's horse defecating right next to the milk delivery as he opens a package with a pilot's cap. He looks like Amelia Earnhardt.
SPEAKER_03Erhart?
SPEAKER_00Erhart. Okay. Well, I spelled it wrong. Cool. Earnhart. Amelia Earhart, right?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I think so.
SPEAKER_00He likes flying and planes, and he even mortgaged the house to buy an airplane. We hear oh my god, we hear. We hear their daughter expressing how exciting it was to ride in the airplane. But we don't see her doing this, we just see her playing violin. So this is like over all like a voiceover.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00This transitions to the husband approaching the wife who was supposed to protest woman's suffrage, but she didn't because something got in the way. Okay. I think. Uh she's not happy about her daughter riding in the airplane. She does not like it.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00A doctor comes in, new scene. Okay. Yeah, okay. Because this doesn't happen exactly after. No. New scene. A doctor comes in and announces to the wife that they did everything they could, assuming it was a death that occurred. So the guy died. The husband died.
SPEAKER_06Oh no.
SPEAKER_00She holds a funeral in the living room. It's an open casket. He died from the 1918 influenza pandemic and not a plane crash, like we all expected.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay. That funeral scene was so weird.
SPEAKER_00It was really weird. She moves out of the house with her daughter, who will miss the house, but the widow does not agree. She will not miss the house. She didn't even like the house. There's a group of girls playing jump rope, repeating a rhyme, which I thought was kind of funny and interesting about the time. Uh they were rhyming about a bird named Enza. They opened the window and influenza.
SPEAKER_06Influenza.
SPEAKER_00A wordplay on the word influenza. Yeah. Which was a big problem at the time because I mean there was a pandemic. And then we see a group of kids playing Ring Around the Rosie, which, contrary to popular belief, it is not about the bubonic plague.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Completely irrelevant. Yeah, I thought it was n I know, I did too. But there's no connection. Okay. It I think if I recall correctly, the rhyme song happened. It originated before all of that and had completely different lyrics. Okay. That have, you know, evolved throughout the years. Started in London. Or England at least. I can't say specifically. I wasn't there. We're in 1940 now, where we see a lady dancing while vacuuming. Oh. She really likes to vacuum.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00We see a man good at dancing. Yeah, she's better than me.
SPEAKER_03Better than me, I guess.
SPEAKER_00We see a man who is re designing a recliner chair, the relaxy boy chair. New scene. His wife is dancing with a vacuum again, and her husband joins in a tango or something. They dance. And then there's another scene where he uh knows about scents and how particles work. I don't know. It was really random. But he was like working on his prototype.
SPEAKER_03I felt that those scenes were so So random. Yeah, so misplaced in a way.
SPEAKER_00I don't And you know what? The funny thing is that it's not at all how it happened. I'm gonna get to this. Okay? Hold on a second. Yeah. So he goes on about how he knows everything about particles and how scents work. Now we're in 1942 where he is working hard on his prototype with a full recline feature. They have a dog. And then uh we hear on the radio that the Japanese have attacked Pearl Harbor, which I feel is kind of funny because we have like the revolution ending or revolutionary war ending, and then we have Pearl Harbor, we have other events later, but they never ever bring up 9-11.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, I'm hoping it's a deleted scene.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But completely irrelevant. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um It never affected them. It was kind of a big thing. I don't know. It never affected them.
SPEAKER_00No. They're in Pennsylvania.
SPEAKER_03Whatever.
SPEAKER_00But wait, where is where is the Pentagon? Is that in DC? Or is that in wait, hold on. Wasn't there another plane that crashed in a field in Pennsylvania?
SPEAKER_03I think so. Yeah. Hmm. So what they didn't even care about that.
SPEAKER_00It could have been in their backyard.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but they didn't care.
SPEAKER_00No. It was okay.
SPEAKER_03Alright, well We don't care.
SPEAKER_00I would like to see the deleted scenes of this movie.
SPEAKER_03What if you saw an airplane in the background?
SPEAKER_00I have to watch this sh movie a lot closer. Oh that would be awful if you saw it in the background though. Oh my god, how subtle.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I'm gonna remake this movie. Anyway, sorry. Okay, so we have another scene where they are taking pictures with this very cool chair and discuss with a di a tiger. A buyer, because I am dyslexic, I guess.
SPEAKER_05I thought you meant a tiger.
SPEAKER_00A tiger. They're discussing with a tiger. Rar. A buyer about televisions and how they would pair well with these chairs. Their life is a fantasy. They are living the dream. They celebrate their selling of the lazy boy product. Uh the buyers changed the name, but he says they can call it what they want because they're moving to California. Okay, this is how the lazy boy actually happened.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay. The chair was developed by cousins Edward M. Knobush and Edwin J. Shoemaker. Chairmaker. The real chair was developed in Monroe, Michigan, initially through a small garage-based furniture business. There is no documented Stella equivalent, who is the wife. The character and her pinup career are fictional. Yeah, they're made up completely. The real product received its name through a contest. Lazy Boy was selected over several alternatives.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I mean, it's so random. Did they just pick something like uh we're gonna invent a new history for this? It's like our history lessons.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Someone decided to make a history lesson and just threw it in the movie. Yeah, this could be interesting.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, let's make uh history for remake history for this.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um, the first version of the lazy boy chair was a relatively simple wooden slat porch chair. Upholstery came afterwards. Interesting fact, the lazy boy existed well before television became a standard household product. Um, because they were saying in the movie that these could go really well together.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Television hadn't even been invented yet.
SPEAKER_03Should have been talking about radios.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. This goes really well with the radio. Well, it did. The real founders remained connected to their Michigan company, which grew into Lazy Boy Incorporated. In 1945, after they moved to California, apparently, these fake people.
The Young Family Years And Regrets
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00A soldier, Al Young, and his wife, Rose Young, look at the house. This is the majority of the movie.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00He lost his hearing from a war incident and is yelling, oh, so yeah, sorry. Um, so this was the majority of the movie and is completely made up, but apparently the things that happened in this storyline it is connected to what had previously happened and what in the future also happened. So I'm not really gonna go through all that though. So you get to uh make it up yourself.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so Al had lost his hearing from a war incident and is yelling about things that he thinks he hears his wife and the Maclara. Oh re real t real estate. Sure.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's the only time I'm gonna mention her. So yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, okay. The house seller. He didn't lose all his hearing.
SPEAKER_00No, it was just uh somewhat missing, and it it gets better. The house is more expensive than they expected, but the wife is uh three months pregnant, so they take it anyway. We see them celebrate chaotic Christmases throughout the years of their three kids. Rickley is what I said, wrote.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00Ricky, Elizabeth, and Jimmy. They're trying to get those perfect Christmas morning pictures. Ricky is their first child who is curious about his father's yurt as a soldier, which seemingly has turned him into an alcoholic. We see a children's birthday party with musical chairs that upsets a child. It's not fair. Al gets upset okay, next scene. Al gets upset over a phone call from a fellow employee at his company bragging about the sales that he's made. Ricky is drawing, and Al looks unimpressed at his drawing of the living room. Wow. That's when Al recites this the towns along the turnpike in Pennsylvania, then rambles about places he's been, and then goes on about a one-night stand he had had. Um which is implied that he had cheated on Rose. He says, It was only once, and I think I'm gonna come back to this later. Yeah. That's what I wrote. I'm gonna come back to this. Uh I'm sure I will. Uh, next scene. Al walks in and announces that he got let go from his job. He's upset and gets comforted by Rose. Many years later, we see Tom Hanks, or a young Tom Hanks. Ricky is his character. The oldest Yeah, the oldest child, Ricky, brings home Margaret, Jenny.
SPEAKER_05Yay!
SPEAKER_00And introduces her to the family. His dad doesn't seem to care, but his mom tries to start a conversation with her. Margaret wants to go to college. They discuss regrets of not doing things they wanted with their lives, which ends up being a repetitive theme in this family. Al seems to be unimpressed with everything Ricky says, like when he declares that he wants to be a graphic artist. Next scene, Ricky and Margaret get caught on the couch. Caught on the couch by his little siblings. Oh. I'm assuming it was kind of a babysitting kind of situation. Mom and dad go out, the oldest watches the kids, he invites his girlfriend.
SPEAKER_03Doesn't really watch.
SPEAKER_00No, they're supposed to be in bed.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But they're not. Alright, next Al is see Al is on Al is on his way to a job. Hold on, let me get through this. You can laugh later. Al is on his way to a job interview and is nervous. Uh Rose goes through a checklist of the things he needs and asks him to watch his drinking, which annoys him. She goes, wallet, watch, keys. Next, Ricky invites Margaret to spend the rest of her life in the house and they dance to the Everly brothers. Then it transitions to him announcing that Margaret is pregnant to his parents. They're still a young couple at 18 years. Al is really mad that Ricky is throwing his life away, similar to how his life ended up. They get married in the living room to the Beatles on the TV. The Beatles are on the TV. They had the TV on while they are getting married in the living room. Yeah. I underlined this because they had the TV on while they are getting married in the living room.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay, sure. Uh but they were singing all my loving, so it was okay.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The camera that um Al is trying to use keeps getting unplugged and then it starts storming outside.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00Next scene, Ricky is still drawing and trying to find inspiration and gets really excited when he feels the baby kick. Oh. Uh then we see Margaret is very prig pregnant, pregnant, and she can't sleep. Al is snoring in a chair. He has no problem sleeping.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00But she's very pregnant and very uncomfortable. Ricky is so astounded by how beautiful Margaret is, but she doesn't feel it. I I wrote argti uh marge. Kvari. Kvari. Quulf. Uh then the roof was leaking during a really big stor storm. Hold on.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Laughing later. You can laugh later. Uh there's a really big storm. It's leaking, and everyone is panicking. Al is panicking. Well, Ricky is just sitting there drawing. No, he's standing. He's standing and drawing. There's a lot of water. And then Margaret loses her water. Her water breaks.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Ricky's little brother. Oh my god. I wrote this so quickly. Ricky's little brother is shocked and calls the fire department. And she has the baby right there on the couch. It's a girl. Ricky shows the baby, Vanessa, the moon, like the lion. That's when it kind of transitioned. They were showing the baby, the moon, and then Ricky is showing Vanessa, the baby, the moon.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And he had also painted a picture of the moon. He's like, there's two moons. There's a moon out there. And there's a moon right there. Yeah. It was cute. Yeah, it was a cute scene. Okay. Margaret is shown taking care of the baby, cuddling and playing and appreciating the baby. You make me so happy. Which I mean I can relate to because I've also had these conversations with my babies. You make me so happy. Ricky comes home from an interview and admires his painting. Before he takes it all down. He's done. He's done with the painting. It's not getting him any he's just he's got a salesman job. Yeah. He's got a job and he's a he's disappointed. He doesn't want this job. The whole f family sits down and watches home home Christmas videos on a projector. I hope you understand what I mean by that. I do. Okay. Ricky is regretting he never became an artist. Alright, next, Vanessa. Oh, this was cute. Vanessa sneaks in on Ricky while he's watching TV. She's dressed as a ghost and scares him. He's a good dad and overreacts, dragging Margaret into the scene. And Vanessa is loving the playtime. The camera transitions to Vanessa spinning around in a chair while they were trying. To take cute pictures of her. Al bursts in and reprimands her for not sitting still. I was a bit overboard. But anyway, next, Ricky comes home late and misses bedtime. Margaret wants to move out. Ricky settles on getting a new sofa and a coffee table instead. They dance to their song by the Everly Brothers, Let It Be Me. Then Ricky is laying on the floor reading Dr. Seuss to Vanessa, although he is really just making up the words to encourage her to get ready for bed. Then we see a Halloween party. Ricky and Jimmy are both dressed as Ben Franklin. Ben Franklin at the Halloween party, having a quote battle. Ricky and Jimmy, his little brother. Right. Okay. Then we see Rose and Ricky taking out a table for Thanksgiving. During Thanksgiving, Jimmy announces that he enlisted in the army. People are not very happy about that. Later, I think this day, Margaret brings up getting their own home again. She's been going on about this for years. She's gonna get a part-time job and he won't stop talking about taxes. I thought that was annoying. He just kept bringing up taxes. Like, who cares about taxes? Next scene, Rose doesn't like the new couch. This is the part that you liked. Virginia and her husband Ted, they are friends of the family.
Stroke Recovery And Family Tension
SPEAKER_00They're visiting. Rose tells a joke that makes Ted laugh so hard he has a heart attack and dies on the floor.
SPEAKER_05Faceplanted.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, he faceplanded. It was a big thud. Later on, Rose gets a phone call confirming his death. She regrets telling her joke. They go comfort Virginia. Vanessa looks up the chimney and got her head stuck. Margaret tells Ricky, uh, laughing hysterically, because Vanessa wants to sue Santa for emotional chimney trauma trauma. Uh then uh Ricky brings home a Christmas tree and Vanessa is so happy. For Christmas, Ricky gives a blueprint for their own house to Margaret that he designed. She is so happy. He is getting more work at his company and expects more money to come in. And then we see Vanessa has lost a blue ribbon that she won at school and she's really sad. Then we see that Ricky didn't get the raise that he expected. And then Margaret found the ribbon in the couch cushions. They're all happy again.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00A few years later, Vanessa is older now, a teenager dancing to loud music when the phone rings. Yeah, I don't know what happened there. Uh next scene, the Archae archaeological society stopped by and is interested in the building across the street. They claim their property is an important site. The leader guy wants to see her backyard. I thought a bit too deeply into this scene and I got really uncomfortable because I had a feeling that it was intended that Earl, the leader of this society, um, was intending on raping Rose.
SPEAKER_06Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00Because he brings her or she brings her to the backyard, even though, oh, my husband's not home.
SPEAKER_03And then he goes on about like, you know, it was very the I remember it could be taken central. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Like, oh, the backyard is really big, and oh, there's so much space here, and this is really good, and blah blah blah. So I had a feeling that it was intended that he was going to rape her, or maybe did.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But I feel like it would have been a bigger deal later. I don't know. But I asked open eyes about this, and it's is said that Earl may come across as socially odd or intrusive, but there's no real evidence that attempted rape was the intended subtext. The film's messy time transition makes the scene feel much more sinister than the actual storyline supports. So I think she's okay, he's just weird.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Maybe he was trying to flirt.
SPEAKER_00Maybe, but he also had two kids with him. I know this is like what the 70s-ish. So different times. Maybe he brought kids with him and was like, I don't really care. I'm gonna do this anyway because I'm a man in the 70s and I don't I don't care about my surroundings. We're just gonna do this right here and now. Anyway, next scene. Vanessa and her friend Bethany are doing Arabics. Like, what is it, Jane Fonda?
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yep, her kind of Arabics on the TV. They discuss the history of the house across the street and are just stating facts to each other. There's a thunderstorm and the electricity goes out. And then there's a really big snowstorm. Margaret comes back from the store and finds sorry, I I say it like this just happened right after that. But you should keep in mind that these lines are there's time in between them. Yeah. So the next scene, there's a big snowstorm. Margaret comes back from the store and finds Rose on the floor. She fell from decorating the Christmas tree. And then Al says to himself, because there's no one else in the room, uh, that he has a recurring dream about Rose drying drying, drying off. Rose drowning. He can't save her. He is still drinking a lot, and he knows notices this and throws his bottles away. Good for him.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Then Rose comes home. She's in a wheelchair now. She had a stroke. She's alive. That's good. She didn't die from that. Margaret is trying to rehabilit rehabilitate her speech and eating. Ali's checking in and gives the news that him and Rose are moving to Florida and giving the house to Margaret and Ricky. Margaret does not want the house. So they argue about the house. She's still mad about staying there. They were only supposed to stay there temporarily and then move out eventually, and it had become permanent.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Without them really noticing. Life happened, right?
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And she accuses him of constantly making excuses. Then we see that the archaeological society had pulled up the Indian woman's necklace that was found in the backyard. They show Rose and she says it's beautiful. Then we see that they're taking a family photo, and Vanessa is not cooperating because she's a teenager. Then we see Alan Rose leave for Florida and Vanessa runs after them. Vanessa goes to Bethany's dressed lightly, very light clothing, and gives attitude over curfew. Ricky and Margaret listen to the silence, and then they're alone and run to the bedroom with a bottle of wine. Then Ricky gets a call from Vanessa, who is in college. She's asking for money. Margaret takes the phone and she says that she sent a care package. They're so proud. Margaret stares in the camera for so long. So long. Yeah. And then she turns older while she's standing there. She stood there for years.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh she's older now, and uh Vanessa has gone into law school now to be a lawyer. Time is flying by, and they have to mortgage the house to afford the school. Margaret reminds Ricky about the blueprints. Like, remember that? He's like, Yeah. That would have been nice.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Then we go to Thanksgiving again. Uh, or another Thanksgiving.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Al makes a sad toast. Rose had passed away.
SPEAKER_06Oh.
SPEAKER_00He's remembering her.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Next scene, it's Margaret's birthday. She gets a surprise party. And then she she's supposed to blow out the candles and she gets rambly about how her life hadn't gone the way she wanted. And then she gets emotional over all the things she hadn't done. And then she blows out the candles. Not all of them though.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_00Next scene, Margaret and Ricky have a life coach in their house. Oh. And he insists that they separate. Separate. Separate. They separate. They separate.
SPEAKER_03They separate. It's uh it's like anger management. That's what they did too for a little bit.
SPEAKER_00Ricky does not like that.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_00He uh gets mad. Yeah. Yeah. Next scene. Ricky is on the phone regarding Al. Oh, he's talking about Al. He will have to Al will have to move back in because he can hardly take care of himself. Partially because of old age, but also because he broke his hip.
SPEAKER_03Oh, broke my hip.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Ricky is afraid that the growing tension will m with Margaret will end up with her leaving. Then we have Margaret telling Ricky about an incident where she was driving and forgot where she was. And I guess this was the beginning of her Alzheimer's or dementia. Dementia or something. Yeah. One of the two. They're like the same thing.
SPEAKER_03Kind of.
SPEAKER_00What's the difference?
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I'm assuming there's a difference.
SPEAKER_03Probably. But I don't know what the difference.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, Al moved into the into the couch.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
SPEAKER_00He's inside the couch. And he's messing with Ricky about his hearing, making Eric Eric. Whoever Eric is. Ricky starts like screaming at him. I guess he's just like partially playing because he can't hear as well. And he's making Ricky yell at him. Yeah. Even though he didn't have to. Anyway, Margaret doesn't like that Al moved back in. Then we see New Year's. It's 2003 now. Margaret and Ricky emptily wish each other a happy new year. And you can really tell at this point that they are done with each other.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Ricky brings home McDonald's breakfast since his meeting got cancelled. Vanessa called Margaret and talked about how Ricky was a good artist and why he quit painting. He admits that he had to make money to c to take care of the family. Margaret admits that she got an apartment and she is leaving. Then we see Al on the couch. Still. Margaret, oh, he's sleeping on the couch. Everyone is sleeping. Margaret had packed her bags and she leaves before anyone wakes up. Oh. Al asks Ricky if uh no. Al asks if Ricky can save his marriage and insists that his marriage never had any problems. This is where I'm gonna come back to uh the one night stand.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00They both know that's not true. He actually admitted that him and Rose had spent time apart, and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with the one night stand.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, maybe.
SPEAKER_00Like maybe she found out and she left for a while, but then came back.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Al assumes that Margaret will be back because she left a jacket behind, but she forgets a lot of things nowadays. Al suggests finally that Ricky sells the house, and Ricky declares that he is going to paint again. He's like, you know what? I'm gonna paint. We see that Al is continuing to have nightmares about Rose, waking up confused and looking for her. And then the next scene with them is uh Ricky folding up the fold-out bed from the couch.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Cleaning up after Al after his death. He died.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Margaret calls, asking how he's dealing. He's happy he got to spend the last of his last of the days with his dad. Ricky apologizes to Margaret for always worrying about everything for their entire lives. And then Margaret calls Ricky again and tells about her trip to Paris with Vanessa. Vanessa.
SPEAKER_06I can't talk.
SPEAKER_00Vanessa. She's determined to go more often to Paris among other countries. Vanessa and her husband, David, are having Thanksgiving with his parents. Margaret suggests that they have Thanksgiving that her and Ricky have Thanksgiving at the house together. She comes in with Chinese food. He's been painting a lot. He even painted a picture of Margaret and another of Vanessa. She tells him that she forgot what she was doing at the Chinese restaurant. Not good.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_00They make a toast and start a new tradition of starting the meal with the fortune cookie. And then they tell each other what their fortunes say. And uh this was really sad because his was like an old love will come back. And he's like, Is this my fortune? And she says, No, no, I'm not coming back. Hold on, I lost where I was.
SPEAKER_03But yeah, that's sad. I remember that from it was sad.
SPEAKER_00He was so hopeful.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Right. She admits that she's not coming back. And he has decided to sell the house.
Selling The House And Final Return
SPEAKER_00Then we see moving boxes and then an empty room. We see a montage of how the house had changed throughout the years. Then we go forward to 2010.
SPEAKER_03Okay, yeah. New family.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. This is a span of like 10 years. Okay. So a new family moves in. They think the walls are ugly. They have a cleaning lady and a robot vacuum. The cleaning lady has been working for the family for a long time. Like, um, they have a son and uh he's a teenager, but she was changing his diapers. So it she's been around for a long time.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then uh suddenly it is the son's 16th birthday. Oh, his name is Justin.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00He gets a ginormous cake and he blew out the picture. Like when he blew out the candles, the whole uh scene went black. Oh, alright. It was a fun editing thing.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's it.
SPEAKER_00Okay. And then Justin got his driver's license, and his father is explaining exactly what to do if he gets pulled over.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00It is very important because of the color of their skin. They are African American. I did not mention that. I mentioned it in my notes, but I did not say it. Anyway. Anyway, uh, it's a big part of this scene because um they have to be really careful about how they act with police. I'm guessing this was around like Black Lives Matter.
SPEAKER_03I guess so.
SPEAKER_00Is that 2018?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think so. Around that.
SPEAKER_00Something like that. So that's that was that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Again, we zoomed right past 9-11. This is way past that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then we see the cleaning lady cleaning and spraying uh bleach on everything. Okay. And then she gets really nervous because she can't smell it. She can't smell anything. And this is when we're supposed to assume that she has COVID. Ah, see? Alright. And then we see the dad and a woman talking with masks on because it's COVID.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The wife walks in crying because the cleaning lady died.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_03From being able to smell.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, sometimes that happens. No, she got COVID and died.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00And then we see uh that they are moving furniture around. I'm not sure if they were moving out or because it sounded like they were just moving the furniture, but there was like a desk with a mirror uh on the back.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And um they moved it right in front of the camera so that you can see everything behind the camera. You could actually see like the kitchen and everything from behind, which was really cool. It was a fun, different point of view. Yeah, you can see the kitchen from the mirror.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, is basically what it was. Yeah, I remember that.
SPEAKER_00And now we're in 2020. They had moved out by this point. I'm not sure if it's even relevant to the last scene, but whatever. It's completely empty. And Richard, uh Ricky, yeah, arranges to return to the house and he places two folding chairs in the middle of the living room. Ricky brings Margaret inside and shows her around. He explains how their life was, and he has her sit in the chair. She doesn't remember anything about the house. He tells her the story of their lives anyway. She remembers the story about Vanessa and the blue ribbon, and the camera finally moves around the house and reveals the other side of the room. Margaret finally says that she loves it here.
SPEAKER_03She said the thing.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um and then what?
SPEAKER_03After earlier saying that she hated it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, she hated it, but now she says she loves it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00They had a lot of memories there.
SPEAKER_04Goosebumps.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, and then we finally see uh the front of the house with a for sale sign, and uh the camera backs up to see the neighborhood from above, and we get a view from the mansion, the roof of the mansion across the street.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then the hummingbird whizzes by, and the frame closes in around the house and fades to black.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And that was that was here.
SPEAKER_03That was here.
SPEAKER_00That's all I got. Sorry I didn't have more. So short. I know. I know. I just zoomed right through it.
SPEAKER_05Did you really watch it?
SPEAKER_00I did. Yeah. I watched it. I did my extra research.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I really wanted to understand the movie.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I'm I'm wondering, are they back together at the end, or is he just are they like friends and he's like just showing where they used to live?
SPEAKER_00I don't think she knows. No. He might be taking care of her. Yeah. And she's still like, I'm not really sure who you are.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, maybe that's the case, because otherwise it feels kind of weird if he's like, Yeah, we're back together. You don't remember anything, but yeah.
SPEAKER_00I'm your husband. Yeah. Well, I mean, technically he still is. Yeah. They never actually got divorced.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, that was that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
Why The Movie Clicks Now
SPEAKER_03So did you understand this movie better now?
SPEAKER_00I did.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I was really confused the first time we watched it because of all the I mean, it did shift back and forth in time. And I I wasn't really sure like who is this and what's going on. And especially with like the rapid aging throughout the movie. Cause then like and I'm really bad at recognizing faces. So if a person changes throughout the movie like quickly, dramatically, I don't I don't know who it is anymore.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00Like when they showed that scene with Rose coming into the room and questioning what she was doing in there, I didn't really know who that was. I couldn't pinpoint because she went from being old to being young again.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then old again. And she walks in and says, I don't know where I am. And I I was like, that's not Margaret.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00And she hasn't quite started having her Alzheimer's yet.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00So I was like, who, what's going on?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I had to ask open eyes about that too. I was like, who is that?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So and I liked the effort you uh to put it in order instead of it. Yes. That's really cool.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It was a task. I sat in the uh espresso house and worked on that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It was fun. I got a really good bulle. It looks like a semla, okay. And they've got the whipped cream in there, but it's like cinnamon whipped cream. And it was so good. Okay. So good. So yeah, that's what I did. Yeah. I had a boule and watched a move. I did like this movie better this time.
SPEAKER_06Good.
SPEAKER_00It made more sense. And I still really like the editing job. Even if it was confusing with the timelines, the editing job was really, really interesting.
SPEAKER_03I I I really liked the concept too. Yeah. Just one fixed place in time. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then they had like the frames that were like coming that were like going in and out all the time. It was really cool.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I do like this movie. I enjoyed it. Uh you can really tell that it's CGI on the faces. There is no invisible CGI. No. Not yet.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_00We're not there yet.
SPEAKER_03No faces are difficult to CGI.
SPEAKER_00And I uh would really like to see that moment when we actually got to see their faces because everything looks the same.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean you see so much CGI that like the real faces look like CGI too, I guess. I don't know.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, I think that it's really good that we end the podcasts with plural. The pa the podcast with a stroke. With a stroke. This is when we die.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00No, with movies.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's true. I mean Because that's been a constant.
SPEAKER_00That's the only constant thing with the podcast. And now we're ending the whole thing.
SPEAKER_03With just movies.
SPEAKER_00Just movies.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And we did a fun uh history lesson. Was that last time or the time before that?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I think I think we're good.
SPEAKER_03I think so.
Saying Goodbye Without Closing Doors
SPEAKER_00I think we're done here.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I've had fun.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's been a fun three and a half or so, almost four years.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And uh it's been a good run.
SPEAKER_00It's been a good run. I'm not gonna say forever.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_00We might get bored and come back.
SPEAKER_03Maybe.
SPEAKER_00I'm not gonna say it's gonna happen. I'm also not gonna say that's not gonna happen. That it's not gonna happen. Right. That's true. Exactly. We may be back.
SPEAKER_03We leave it on a cliffhanger.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Does does Arnold Schwarzenegger ever say I might be back?
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah, he does. I think so.
SPEAKER_00I might be back.
SPEAKER_03I think he says something like that in uh sixth day.
SPEAKER_00Hmm. I might be back.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And then the The guy says, Oh, he'll be back.
SPEAKER_00Ah, that's good. Yeah. I like that. Let's end it on that note. As we wrap up the entire podcast, I guess.
Cards Against Humanity One Last Pull
SPEAKER_00Can you please tell me what the cards against humanity has decided is ruining your life? Or do you want to pick your own card? Yeah. Just take a card from the whole thing. I guess this is okay. Yeah. I want to backup just in case. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00What'd you get?
SPEAKER_03What's ruining my my life?
SPEAKER_00Your life.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Dying alone in pain.
SPEAKER_00Aww Matt yes.
SPEAKER_03That's so accurate.
SPEAKER_00Oh. I have a list of things that are ruining my life. Number one is poverty. Number two, Kanye West.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, makes sense.
SPEAKER_00Hate the guy. No, I I don't I don't like him. I don't hate him. No. I don't like him. No. I do have some of his songs on my playlist. Whatever. Okay. So just that fact is ruining my life. That I don't like the guy, but I support him anyway.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Whatever. Okay? Judge me.
SPEAKER_03Makes sense.
SPEAKER_00Um, number three, grave robbing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's not good. It's a bad hobby.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I I I wanted to talk to you about that, but uh, you know.
SPEAKER_00Maybe not here, not right now. Maybe in private. We can talk about my grave robbing addiction. Alright. Are you out of sips?
SPEAKER_03Um.
SPEAKER_00Do you remember your title? Do you remember your title from the beginning?
SPEAKER_03Oh, the master of sips.
SPEAKER_00You are the master of sips.
SPEAKER_03Yep. I'm all out of them. So am I. Sips. And that means we're all out of episodes. Forever. Almost. Almost. Almost forever.
