The book of Malachi addresses the struggle of feeling distant from God when life's pressures cause our devotion to wane. Israel had returned from exile but grew discouraged under economic stress, leading them to give God their leftovers instead of their best. This represents a pragmatic departure from God - when we think it makes more practical sense to do things our way rather than God's way. The path back involves three steps: Surrender your sin by acknowledging our rebellion, Immerse yourself in God's promises of abundant life through Christ, and Trust that following God is truly profitable. God's invitation remains open: Return to me, and I will return to you.
