Is the Body in Present Day Awareness?
“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift—that’s why we call it the present.” In this episode, Lynn explores the deeper meaning behind one of her favorite quotes and how it relates to trauma-informed care in the body. From frozen tissues to lingering birth experiences, Lynn breaks down how unresolved trauma shows up in the musculoskeletal system, influences pain patterns, and impacts client outcomes.
✨ Episode Highlights for Practitioners:
- How the body stores trauma and why tissues “freeze” in response
- Recognizing trauma breadcrumbs that influence recurring pain and movement patterns

So I would love to have you join in on that program. It's one of my absolute favorite to teach because of the impact and the power that the work has in helping to shift people's lives, the changes in the students and how they're showing up, not only in their practice, but in their life with their family, with friends.
It truly is a transformational journey that we go on in the nine months together. And it, yeah, it's so much fun.
So we'd love to see you in there if that is fun. So let's dive into our topic today, which is present day awareness.
And that's why I love that quote so much. Today is a gift. That's why we call it the present.
Well, something I want to ask you about and to help you to bring to your sessions, to your clients, is to help you to understand what really happens when there's been a trauma response in the body.
Because I want you to think of our bodies. Our bodies know no time and space. Okay, our tissues in our body, they know no time and space.
Everything that has happened to us is recorded within the cellular structure in our tissues so we can access anything, like even our time in the womb when, and that is the most powerful work is when you re-improve.
The experience from our time in the womb, it really, truly changes the foundation of who you are as a person and how you react to life.
And there are several different womb imprints that we dive into in the Birth Healing Intensive Program. And this idea of the timeline of our body, the timeline of our life is we're born and then eventually someday we will die.
When an event, you know, and let's label it a traumatic event, happens to us and our part of us, our body goes into a freeze response from that event, you know, trauma is usually an overwhelming experience that our mind is not able to fully process in that moment.
And we either go into fight, flight or freeze and in birth, a lot of Sometimes that freeze response is the only option for our clients, and so I do run across a lot of freeze response in the tissues, and what that is is you will notice there may be a lack of energy flow in an area, like the tissues are just, they feel frozen, and what's happening in that freeze response is that the tissues, and I say a part of them because I really love Richard Schwartz, No Bad Parts book, if you guys haven't read that, please get your hands on it and start to understand, I absolutely adore his work because it's very similar to how I approach the tissues and the body, and he takes a look at it as parts work, so part of us, different parts of us react, so these traumas happen to us, and a part of us is reacting to that trauma, and it stays stuck in that moment in time.
comments a short quick and read to we're you see And so the tissues of our body can remain stuck in that moment in time, and that is why when you go to work with someone who has an open birthing pattern in their pelvis, and you mobilize those tissues to close them back up, and yet the next time you see them, they're wide open again, you go to release a tension in their muscle and it comes back and it's just the same.
And sometimes it's even worse if you forced a release to happen because you're not getting the, when the pain gets worse, there's the body, you didn't get to the root cause.
And so are the tissues, the freeze response to me is like breadcrumbs. It's our body's way of saying, hey, there's something here that needs to be addressed.
We can't address it in the moment, so a part of us is going to get stuck in this moment in time, and there's going to be breadcrumbs.
Sometimes there might be other incidences that happen that are very similar that will help remind us of the original insult.
So when we're dealing with birth, I find that a lot of times what happens to our clients in birth are just a repeated pattern of things that have happened to them earlier on in their life that never got addressed or never got healed.
And usually there's a limiting belief that got implanted during that time, and if we don't address it and it gets there, then we keep having repeated patterns that keep bringing us back to that, they're the breadcrumbs that keep us connected to that original insult.
I just worked with someone via telehealth and had major, major back pain, and she did not want the c-section, but the hospital was just adamant about her having a c-section.
And . During the session, she's like, they just didn't hear me. And that stuck out to me. And I said, so is that the first time that's happened to you?
She goes, oh, no. And so I'm like, so what is it? What's that belief? Like, well, nobody hears me or I forget exactly what it was, but something along that line of that, you know, I'm not heard.
And so we shifted that limiting belief, and then was able to replay the C-section, the birth in a different manner to where she did feel more heard and more empowered.
And it was amazing how her back pain was completely gone after that session. However, it came back because she still has the mechanical issues going on in her back that now can be addressed and released because the trauma was already addressed.
So when you're working with a body, If on a physical level and you address things and you adjust and mobilize the tissues and bring it back together, but you don't address the trauma, the body's going to go back to that pattern because it's the breadcrumb.
The body's got to, you know, be healed in that moment. So it's going to keep going back to it.
So that's what I'm talking about when it comes to present day awareness is that the pelvis, if the pelvis is still stuck in an open breathing pattern, this client that I worked with online, she was actually stuck in extension and didn't have any lumbar extension happening in her spine because her sacrum was stuck in extension.
And, um, uh, but her body was frozen there. We worked with the trauma, but we hadn't released the mechanical, the physical aspect of it.
So her pain came back. The opposite happens when we haven't addressed the trauma. So do you understand we have to address both?
Both the physical and the trauma in order for the body to be happy and be able to function well.
And so the tissues get stuck in that moment of trauma. And so it's not in present day awareness. And so something I want you to become aware of is where are these tissues stuck?
Where did the trauma happen? And, you know, I love Tammy Lynn Kent talks about bringing all cells to present day awareness.
That's truly what trauma work is, is helping every single cell of our being to know that we are present in here in this moment.
And I love, excuse me, I love the book Power of Now. If you all haven't read that one, that's another great one that I've read years ago by Eckhart Tolle.
And it's really all about being. Being in the present moment and more with our mind because, you know, the future, we worry about the future and we dwell on the past of what's already happened to us.
But in this present moment of now, we are at choice. We are innermost creative in the moment of now because we can do whatever we want to do.
But if we're stuck worrying about the future, we're stuck in our past, then we are meant we're limited in our creative capacity in the moment now.
So, you know, becoming one of the greatest things about that book that I remember is, do you ever take a look at what you think about?
Like, are you aware of what your thoughts are? And I remember asking this to my mom's side of the family.
We were on family vacation as I was reading this book and I have everybody was sitting around the table and I go, does anybody ever think about what you think about?
And they all looked at me like I had three heads. And that was the major question in that book is, you know, are you aware of your thoughts?
Because our thoughts become things. And where we spend our attention is where we truly are stuck. So are you thinking about all the things that have happened in the past, then you're stuck in the past.
If you're worried about what's going to happen tomorrow, then you're stuck in the future. Whereas the power is in being in the now.
And not only our mind, but we have to bring our body to the power of now as well. And so bringing all cells to present day awareness, that when Tammy Lynn Kent said that I was just like, Whoa, that is so incredibly powerful, because that's truly what healing is.
And if our tissues are stuck in a moment from the past, then we're that the will the beaãn. Tissues are going to remain in that pattern, whatever that pattern was in that moment in time.
So I hope this helps you to understand what's really happening to the body in that timeline. And really our goal is to bring all parts of ourselves into present day awareness.
And that's Richard Schwartz stuff is each time we have a trauma, there might be a different part of us that is stuck back in the past.
And we are currently living in this moment of time, like I'm 57 right now, but if I haven't healed those different parts of me and I haven't integrated those parts to who I am today, then those parts may be driving me in this moment.
And I love the book by, um, uh, uh, gosh, the let them theory by Mel Robbins. And she talks about most adults are eight year old kids walking around in adult bodies because we haven't healed.
And that's truly what healing is all about is bringing all parts of us, all cells to this present day awareness.
And I have to say, I'm getting so passionate about this, because this is the most powerful information that I can give you guys, because it truly is about living in this moment now, being present with your self and your thoughts and your feelings and your emotions in this moment now, because it's the only moment which we can control.
We can do anything about is in this present day. We can't do anything about the future. We can't do anything about the past, but we can do something about this, our moment right now.
So, boy, that is just a taste of one of the concepts that I share with you in the birth healing intensive program.
Yeah. And so. If this information is exciting for you and you get a poll to want to learn more, please check out and fill out the application.
Even if this year may not be the right year for you, I invite you to fill out the application, come have a conversation with me, and we can just see if it's the right time for you, if it's the right program for you.
I truly don't want anybody in this program that is not 100% on board and yes, okay, so there is no hard selling, it's just making sure that the program's the right fit for you and you're the right fit for the program too, so that everybody wins when we all enter into the program next year.
Okay, so guys, as you're working with the body, keep in mind this idea, are all cells in present day awareness or do you feel like some cells are frozen in the past and what can we do to help?
Bring them to the present day awareness and so I would love to help you to learn how to work with the body more in this way and understand these concepts.
remember, today is a gift and that's why we call it the present. So live in the power of now, everybody.
All right. Take care. Have fun with this and I will see you on the next episode. Please share this with other colleagues, other people that might need to hear this message today.
All right. Take care, everybody. Bye-bye. Here's to smoother bursts and faster recoveries. Take care. Bye-bye.
