This episode is our final in the series on clinical mastery and dives deep into what clinical mastery means – it’s likely not what you’ve been taught. Rather than focusing solely on knowledge and techniques, Lynn reframes mastery as how you show up as a whole practitioner, blending presence, intuition, and connection.
Drawing from conversations with Birth Healing Summit speakers, she shares how mastery is layered, personal, and developed through both ongoing inner work and clinical experience. Lynn shares a powerful breakdown of the five dimensions that influence every session – and why neglecting even one can limit your outcomes. This episode also challenges the idea that therapists must “have all the answers,” instead emphasizing humility, client-led healing, and intuitive guidance.
✨ Key Takeaways for Practitioners:
- Clinical mastery spans five dimensions: physical, emotional, energetic, spiritual, and mental – and all 5 must be cultivated.
- Your presence and energy can either regulate or amplify your client’s nervous system (be the “biggest pendulum in the room”).
- True mastery involves humility and collaboration, helping clients access their own inner knowing rather than “fixing” them.
- Intuition is built on experience and knowledge, but guided through a deeper connection to self and spirit.
- Doing your own healing work is essential to showing up powerfully and creating better outcomes for your clients.
If you’re ready to elevate not just what you do – but who you are in the room – this conversation is one you don’t want to miss.

Hello, everybody, and welcome to this episode. Today, I wanted to share with you some of my thoughts on clinical mastery.
I've been doing the clinical mastery series with those therapists that are going to be a part of the Birth Healing Summit this year, coming up in two weeks or in a week, actually, by the time this airs.
And I've really enjoyed these conversations with some of the speakers and can totally agree with everything that they said.
And it was very interesting to hear how varied it was in what clinical mastery really meant to them. And so today, I'd like to just share my two cents on the topic.
And I think this also leads into why I'm doing the Birth Healing Summit in the way that I'm doing it this year.
So I'd like to dive into that. Um, so first, First off, for me, clinical mastery is really about showing up as best we can, showing up with the best version of you.
I think mastery means that we have good knowledge, we have good presence, we have good connections, not just with our clients, but with spirit and everything.
So I like to look at clinical mastery kind of on four or five different levels here. I think that showing up in the best version that we can be of ourself in the clinic space when we're working with our clients, that needs to happen on a physical level, an emotional level, energetic level, spiritual level, and a mental level.
And all five of those are super important when we're working with our clients. And I also think that there's a difference between...
Clinical mastery for our clients and clinical mastery when it comes to teaching and sharing our knowledge with other professionals.
I feel like there's two different things here because I do sense that any of us who have gone through and gotten a degree in doing what we're doing, we have some mastery that shows up from the knowledge that we've learned and the experiences that we've had working with people.
I feel like we can have mastery in our clinical sessions. And if we are a therapist that feels like we have something to share with other practitioners, to me, I really love Tammy Lynn Kent's, that spiral of depth that is needed to be able to share our knowledge with other practitioners.
And I feel like that really comes from years of experience, years of doing the same thing. And. Really diving deep on a topic and getting really, really good at working with that one topic.
And so to me, that clinical mastery really needs to have that depth of knowledge, depth of experience to share it with others in the world.
When it comes to clinical mastery with our clients, us showing up as powerfully as we can, um, as, as whole as we can comes from really taking a look at these five different aspects within ourself and seeing where do we need to focus on so that we can show up more powerfully.
And that truly is the intention for this year's birth healing summit. So on a physical level, we need to make sure that we are showing up strong, that we are walking our walk, that we are taking care of our bodies.
We're getting enough sleep. We're, we're, um, you know. We were able to do our job, and I think that shows up when we are strong and energized and able to do our job.
That comes across very easily to our clients. And then on an emotional level, while I love that, yes, we want to be as emotionally calm and serene inside as possible, that's not life.
Life happens and kids can make us crazy that, you know, life happens and, or, you our parents can have a health challenge or, you know, we have an issue with our partners, like life happens and emotions come up.
And I loved my interview with Kim Barthel in the summit, I believe it was last year or the year before, where she talked about it's not about us having to show up perfectly.
It's about being honest with our clients and letting them know, hey, you know, things are coming. I'm going through a challenge right now, and I'm here with you, and I'm present with you today right now.
So identifying it and letting it out that, you know, yes, I'm dealing with some challenges right now. You do not need to get into the nitty gritty of everything that's going on, but you can just say, yeah, things are coming up, and it's challenging, and I'm with you here right now to support you.
And that way, because on an energetic level, there's a resonance that happens between you and your clients, and I love Suzanne Skrlick talks about being the biggest pendulum in the room because scientists have shown that when you put all different kinds of grandfather clocks in one room, the biggest pendulum, every other clock will attune to that rate of the pendulum, And that's what we want to be in our clinical practice is the largest pendulum in the room, and that's on an energetic basis, we want to be in this space where we can hold.
Our clients and their issues, not take it on, Nari's going to be talking about the impasse and, and how we, Shelly's going to be talking about self-compassion, um, in the summit this year, but we want to be those, the biggest pendulum.
So energetically we are resonating out from us, this sense of calm and peace and healing for our clients to, to connect into that.
If we are chaotic in our energetic field, we have a lot going on and we don't calm ourselves before we go into a treatment session, that chaotic energy is, might match their chaotic energy.
And there's going to be little chance of, of good healing happening there. We really want to be that calm, grounded, you know, every single, almost every single one of the speakers talked about a deep presence, a therapeutic alliance, uh, being, uh, embodied.
You know, all the. These key terms are critical for our clients to be able to anchor off of something or anchor with something that is solid and grounded and just really resonating the sense of peace and calm.
And that happens by us doing our own work, recognizing that when we are in that chaos and that turmoil, that we can have some practices that we do internally, we do for ourselves.
So that we can show up more powerfully for our clients. And again, that is our focus this year for the Birth Healing Summit is to give you those skills and those tools to take you from a place of turmoil or chaos or upset and help you to find that place of calm and peace so that your clients can interact with you from that state and that you're not.
not. But... Moving your energy up to their chaotic state or, you know, you're in a bad, not a bad, but a chaotic state that there's not going to be resonance for where they need to go in order to truly heal.
Another aspect of us showing up as powerfully as we can to create this clinical mastery in my mind is spiritually.
And it has always been a really, really important, what's the right word, goal of mine, important destination, not that I ever get there, but it's always been super important for me to grow and grow spiritually.
And to me, that means always creating a greater connection to spirit, that spirit is always there for each and every one of us.
And the greater we can have that connection to spirit, the greater we can listen, the greater we can get guidance.
Help and support, not only in our lives, but actually with our clinical, with our clients in the clinic, that that to me is that intuition.
And the greater I have grown spiritually in my life, the greater intuition that I've been able to have in my sessions with my clients and get the information that I need in order to be able to guide them, to help them, to help support them in their healing.
So to me, intuition and having a greater spiritual connection and growth for me personally helps me to increase that intuition, which gives me better outcomes with my clients.
And so that growth spiritually, no matter what your spiritual path is, there is no one right path. Yet we all have an individual connection to spirit, God, source, universe, whatever you want to call it, that connection, the stronger we can make that, the easier it is.
And then the fifth aspect of us that we really need to be as good as we can is mentally.
And by that, you know, mentally is our knowledge, but it's also being in a good head space so that we know when our head is guiding the session, when our heart's guiding the session, when our spirit is guiding the session.
It really is a beautiful blend of all three and not just leading from one thing. And so mentally is pretty much the last on my list because of its importance.
Because with intuition, intuition is pulling on all of our cognitive knowledge that we have in our brain already. So that's why I don't put a lot of emphasis on it.
It's important for us to always be learning, always be growing, and we are learning every time we put our hands on someone.
Letting the body guide us, letting our clients guide us, we're always learning and assimilating information that way. We learn at courses, that's important too, and yet it's important to learn it and then just let it sit in that subconscious, unconscious mind and allow your intuition to guide you because it's using that information.
It's not, I don't feel it's up to us to have to pull from our knowledge while it's important, yes, we want that knowledge there.
I truly depend more on my intuition as I'm working with someone to allow my intuition to pull in the knowledge of what technique needs to happen here, what position the client needs to get into, or sometimes I'll get an image of the anatomy as I'm working with someone.
Like, what am I feeling in my hands, and I'll actually see the anatomy, so knowing our anatomy is just as important as well.
A little bit So notice So being as powerful as we can in all five of these aspects and really growing, that to me is the biggest aspect to clinical mastery that I think there is.
And, you know, I think another important piece for us all to embrace is knowing that we don't know it all and that we can't know it all.
And that's why, again, I really depend for myself on that spiritual connection to allow spirit to guide me in what needs to happen in these sessions and, you know, having the humility to know that we don't know it all, yet our clients are coming to us because they think we do and we do know a lot more than they do.
So that is true. And I want us to really honor that within us and having the humility to go, you know, I'm not quite sure what's happening for you right here, right now.
And also depending or really acknowledging that our clients have a lot of the answers to their problems within them.
And part of being a master in the clinic is helping our clients to access their own inner knowing, their interoception, their sense of what needs to happen here, and letting them guide the session more than us.
And so I love that really to make all of this happen, it really depends on us to have a deep connection with ourselves first, and then being able to create that connection to our clients so that we can stay attuned to what their needs are.
And I also like to stay attuned to spirit so that spirit can guide me, my knowledge can come through, and I have that even my empathy.
Thank you. you. Thank To be able to understand and feel into what my clients might be feeling or what their tissues are actually holding in their body, that empathy can come in and feel that.
And then being able to create a sense of compassion for myself or my client and also yet stay detached from the outcome because it truly is in our clients' hands as to the results and the outcomes.
So I know that's a lot that I've shared here, a lot of information, and I just want you all to understand the importance of just trying to be the best you can be as you show up into your sessions and acknowledging when you're feeling off, letting your clients know that you're feeling off, but yet you're still there and you're still present with them, and show up as well as we can with what's going on in our lives in that moment.
And I, you know, in all of my courses that I I teach in these podcasts and in the summits that I put together, it truly is me wanting the best for you, me wanting to share with you what I know works well, and what I have done with thousands of clients and have seen great results with over and over and over again.
And I really, really, truly share my heart, my soul, my knowledge, and I want the best for you. I want you to show up in the best way that you can.
And that was the impetus for this year's Birth Healing Summit is to create a space that really focuses in and gives you the opportunity to dive deeper inside yourself, heal what maybe needs to be healed in you so that when your clients come with the same thing that you just healed, now you know how to better support them, happens.
All the time, and giving you the tools and the space to heal yourself, to honor yourself, to support yourself so that you can show up the best you can for your clients.
And that truly is the reason for this year's summit, and we're going to get together for two days, May 2nd and 3rd, and I would love for you to join us and dive deep.
If you can't attend live, please still join us, and you can get the recordings, and you can access it at any time, and go back and listen to what these speakers are sharing, because, again, they're sharing their mastery of what they know works best for healing of self, healing of therapists, so that we can show up more powerfully for our clients.
So I'm super excited about the lineup, I just sense that there's going to be this beautiful... uh... ... ...
... ... And just know that my heart and soul has been put into this to give you the best, to be able to be the best you that you can put out into the world, that you can share with not only your clients, but your family and friends and everybody that you encounter in your life, because that's really what life is all about.
It's learning how to heal ourselves, love ourselves more so that we can be that love out in the world.
And if we have hurts and traumas and issues that we haven't fully addressed yet, that may be dimming the love that we can hold for ourself.
And this is an opportunity for you to be able to share more love with yourself so that you can then share that with others.
So if this sounds like something you're interested in, please feel free to join You can sign up last minute, and you can always listen to the recordings later on, too, and just know that this is an opportunity for you to say yes to you, for you to grow, to heal, to empower yourself to show up more authentically as you so that you can better serve all of life, not just your clients.
All right. Thanks so much for listening in, everybody. I look forward to seeing you at the summit and also on the next podcast interview.
Take care, everybody. Bye-bye. And I look forward to seeing you on the next episode. Take care, everybody. Bye-bye.
