In this episode, Dr Apanpreet Kaur explains how Imperial spinout AlphaVectors Biotech is developing vaccines that may no longer need continuous refrigeration.
Many vaccines must be kept cold from the moment they are made until they are given to patients. This “cold chain” can be expensive and difficult to maintain, particularly in places with limited infrastructure. AlphaVectors Biotech is developing nanoparticles that can allow vaccines to remain shelf-stable whether at 4°C or 40°C, making it possible to distribute around the world at a fraction of the cost!
