Conversations with artists about storytelling

Orit Azaz on working with story

Karen P Season 1 Episode 2

I'm interviewing a range of UK artists & creatives about how they create & work with story for a professional development project, funded by Arts Council England's DYCP.

Orit Azaz is an artistic director, facilitator & creative thinker.  Her experience combines devising & directing large scale performances & events; creating new contexts for collaborations between artists & communities; & facilitating creative enquiry & artform development.

Orit worked with Nofit State from 1997-2015, as director of the Stepping Stones trilogy & Artistic Director of large-scale outdoor work, including Parklife & Barricade.  Other projects included Creative Director of Portrait of a Nation, as the culmination of Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture & artistic director of Something Good, for Birmingham Cathedral’s 300th anniversary in 2015.  More recently, Orit was Artistic Director of the BRIDGE project for Imagineer in Coventry 2021, & is currently Artistic Director of Imagine Bamboo, exploring the possibilities of bamboo as a creative material.

This interview was recorded in March 2022, so some of the references may seem a little old.  It's pretty much unedited & contain language, opinions or views that solely reflect the speaker.
