Conversations with artists about storytelling

Myra Appannah on immersive storytelling

Karen P Season 1 Episode 4

I'm interviewing a range of UK artists & creatives about how they create & work with story for a professional development project, funded by Arts Council England's DYCP.

Myra Appannah is a BAFTA & Sundance nominated writer. Her largest scale work, SOMNAI was named by UK Research and Innovation as one of the UK’s most influential Immersive productions of the last twenty years.  Myra is an immersive tech specialist & co-director of BRiGHTBLACK. She’s on the board of the National Gallery X and the Screen Industries Growth Network.

BRiGHTBLACK uses immersive technologies and emerging frameworks to explore and scale their possibilities for meaningful interaction, participation and playability in order to democratise arts and culture. With co-director Simon Wilkinson, they have toured to 36 countries on 6 continents since 2015. BRiGHTBLACK created Immersive StoryLab, a course, platform and community of over 4k participants exploring the future of culture as playable, inclusive, decolonised and disruptive. Clients include the Royal Shakespeare Company, The British Council, the National Institution of Dramatic Arts (Australia), the University of York, grassroots organisations and many more.
