Speaker 1:

Welcome to the dislodge podcast with Vanessa and Chris. I'm Vanessa Ferguson, and I'm Chris Johns. We would like to welcome you to show number 46 and for any listeners joining us for the first time, our show features things. We love it Disney. And in each episode, we have a guest who creates Disney magic for our listeners at home or on their Disney vacations, from vacation planners to product producers, our guests can bring Disney magic into your life. And as a reminder to our listeners, we appreciate if you can take time to leave us a review or a customer rating on Apple podcasts or any other platform where you listen, we appreciate those five star reviews, and we always give out a shout out to a listener on a future episode of the dislodged podcast when those are left. So thank you so much for everyone. Who's taken time to do that. And on today's show, we are going to be joined by Natasha from fairy dust, most teak and on her shop. She offers some really unique floral Mickey ears and phone Griffies. She has some cool features with her ears that we'll hear from in her interview. So we really are excited to share all about what she has in her store with you soon and again, she shared an exclusive cook code just for you using chanted 10, to save 10% off an item in her shop. And again, this is an exclusive code only for our listeners. And I will make sure to put that in the show notes as well, to give easy access for all of you to check out her items in our shop. Now, something that we learned from Natasha is that she really loves Disney villains, which is kind of the inspiration of the topic for this show. We wanted to talk about where you can find villains and the best places to meet them around Walt Disney world. So we kind of have this divided up into a couple of different areas. Number one is just general character meet and greets. Number two is some of the special events where you're able to see the characters. And then number three is some of the bigger shows that have the characters as well. Now, some of these events and character meet and greets are not happening right now is Walt Disney world reopens this summer. I anticipate, and we all foresee these happening again very soon. So again, as you're planning, if you're going right away, know that some of these things are not going to be happening, but we do anticipate them to be back soon. So we're going to go through as though everything will return and hopefully you'll get a chance to meet some of these villains. Now, first off, we're going to start with just the regular meet and greets. Where can you see them at restaurants or in the parks? And first off, we're going to start with somebody that Chris enjoys meeting, who we're going to talk about, meeting a son. He's a great one. He's always a lot of fun. He's over by I guess, signs, Tavern, and you can meet him usually throughout the day. They'll have times he's just a fun character. He really exasperates the energy that he has in the movie, kind of the arrogance as well. And we have had fun photo ops with guests on he's always so willing to interact with guests and it's always fun. And the person, the character representing him always has a good job of interacting with the public. For sure. So Gasana is always a fun one. Now, someone that we met just on a recent trip that we had in March of 2020 is we went to dinner at 1900 park fair. And if you're familiar with that, there's Cinderella and Prince charming. But if you like the villain side of things, lady Tremaine is there with Anastasia and Rosella. And so we had a chance to meet them when we were at, we had dinner at 1900 park fair in March, and I really thought they engaged well. Do what did you think about that at 1900 park fair with lady Tremaine and the stepsisters wonderful interaction? I know I made a comment to one of the sisters and then she refused to come to our table till I apologized. Yes. And they engaged well, like with little ones, they just, they really play the part. Well, and I noticed too, they're like when they came back around the step, sisters remembered our daughter's name and stuff. So it's just kind of fun. They interact really well. You get a little bit more personable interaction, another place where you can meet, which is in addition to 1900 park fair, you can do dining at storybook dining, which is at wilderness lodge. And we did this last year. And I don't know if you remember this, do you remember meeting the evil queen when we went to wilderness lodge? No snow white and the seven, some of the doors were there. And then we met the evil queen. Well, anyways, how they have a setup in the restaurant is the evil queen comes out at certain times and you go and you meet her. She kind of has a, um, kind of a scene set up in a backdrop of sorts to get your photos versus coming to the table. And that was a fun interaction. And they do a lot of kind of engagement with it. She was really well into character as well. So evil queen is at storybook dining at wilderness lodge. And then going back into the parks, you can go over to Hollywood studios. If you're a star Wars fan, of course you can meet Darth Vader at star Wars, launch Bay. And so Darth Vader is available to meet throughout the day. Um, he's at course in Galaxy's edge, w it's been a while since I've met Darth Vader, but there is always an opportunity to go and see him. And if you're a huge star Wars fan, that's definitely a place to go. Now, as we move a little bit further from the parks or the actual dining locations, there are going to be some special character meet and greets that we'll talk about that are at some of the special events. And that gives you a chance to meet characters that might not normally be out. So when we look at these, there's a couple of different places that we're going to look at now, number one, you can go to just see some of these characters face to face when you're at these events, or you might be able to see them in shows. So the first one that you can enjoy is if you go to the villains after hours party at magic kingdom, and we just reviewed this in episode 42, we had a chance to attend one of the last ones in March. They have the cursed caravan where you have[inaudible] queen of harvest Cruella, Deville, Ursula, lady Tremaine. And that is a little bit later in the evening. What did you think about that

Speaker 2:

curse caravan? It was interesting.

Speaker 1:

Did you think that the only bummer is that they're just in the,

Speaker 2:

yeah. Now I know now I remember, um, you don't believe the hype. Yay. Cause you can't get, it's not like you're getting right up next to them and being able to get photos, like it's easy to see them, but you don't get that direct engagement. Correct. Neither earlier in the night, you don't have any real interaction with characters that are not necessarily a park attraction or a park level interaction. And to have them in the parade, which is nice, but they should then be, they should end up in a location where you can go and get a photo. I mean, it's nice to see them. I mean, again, like Keira Deville is now always out there. And so the case of the parade is okay, but why they don't extend that on villains night, they have the villains who are already in costume already ready to do. Part of the photos to me is a real missed opportunity.

Speaker 1:

So besides the curse caravan, you'll also, they have a Sage show. That's villains unite the night and that's going to have Jafar. It has Maleficent. It's going to have Haiti's and Meg from Hercules that host, it has a ride range of the different villains from even like princess and the frog on up. But again, they're just on the stage show in front of the castle. So you don't get that direct engagement. But I would say though, the most villains I've ever saw at any event or in any of the parks would be at the villains after hours. That's definitely a good spot to see them, but not maybe interact with them as well, face to face now, moving to another party, which hopefully they will have these in fall of 2020. Mickey's not so scary Halloween party. This is where you will get a chance to meet some of the characters in meet and greets. You have the queen of hearts. They also have ones like Istan and Jafar, but they are typically available throughout the, the day at the park anyway. So you may not want to take the extra time to go see them, but queen of hearts is only at that party itself. So that's a great chance to see her. She's usually with Tweedledee and Tweedledum as well. And I've gotten some photos with her before another show that's part of the Halloween party is the Hocus Pocus villain spell tackler. And it's right after the fireworks. And so of course, it's going to have the Sanderson sisters, they host the show and they're going to bring in though, that has a lot, has OGI boogie. Melissa sent other Disney villains and they do some projections and it's a good, fun, engaging show. You're not going to be able to meet all of them afterwards, but you are going to be able to see them up close in that villain, spell tacular. So that's another opportunity at Mickey's not so scary Halloween party. So those are two of the big events that you can see villains app, and then just on a regular basis, besides some of the meet and greets that we mentioned earlier, Hollywood studios, if you stay and you see fantastic, this showcases more of the villains than you would see anywhere else. And what do you think with Fantasma crew? You get to see all the different villains and some of the characters.

Speaker 2:

Well, that's, it's really nice.

Speaker 1:

Is there, um, so what are some of the different ones that are at the app? I mean, are you asked me from memory? Well, no, you can look at my notes. What are some of the villains that are fantastic?

Speaker 2:

[inaudible] I've never heard of that. I don't know. Okay. That one's cool, but get the evil queen Ursula a fro low from hunchback of Notre dam and then Jafar of course, but that's the ones that's on the boat there. Oh, that's a good one. That's a real good. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah. So on fantastic. You can see a huge showcase of a lot of the villains and then of course, check throughout the parks because there's always something new. I mean, we mentioned some of the mainstay meet and greets like Gustavo and some in Darth Vader, but there's also meet and greets that you'll find throughout the parks. We've gotten pictures with captain hook and Smee before. Um, Jafar is often in a venture land. So check out and see in the parks guide who might be appearing. I know they're going to be doing some more creative character engagements because they might not have direct meet and greets, but they're going to have some things where you'll be able to engage with characters in new ways. So definitely check that out. As you are planning your next Disney vacation, because you might have an opportunity to, to meet some new characters that you might not have met before. So we're going to take time to bring up our call with Natasha. We are so excited to share with you all about her business. We would like to welcome Natasha to the show today. Her shop fairy dust, most teak has all kinds of really unique phone grippy. She has neat wire flower ears and really neat products that we're excited to share with you. She loves all things, Disney villains, and she's a cancer genetics research nurse by day. And she likes to say that she's a Disney villain by night and she is a from mom to four dogs. So we would like to welcome Natasha to the show.

Speaker 3:

Hi Vanessa. Chris, thank you so much for having me on the show today,

Speaker 1:

joining us. So we always like to start out the shows with an icebreaker question. And the one that we have been asking lately is what is your favorite quick service restaurant at any of the Disney parks? Well, I'm thinking

Speaker 3:

probably none of your guests have had this answer, but mine is Summerfest at Epcot in the Germany pavilion because I'm of German descent. And I just, I just cannot live without my sauerkraut. It makes me think of my childhood when I used to live in Germany for a few years.

Speaker 1:

Oh, nice. Very, we live near a small Bavarian town called Frankenmuth in Michigan and they have a wonderful German food. So we are very spoiled with that all the time.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. That's great. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Now of course, we're here to have you tell us a little bit about your business. So could you tell us more about your business and what are the products that you offer connected to Disney?

Speaker 3:

Sure. So here at Veritas, domestique we offer a variety of different floral ears that are inspired by numerous Disney characters. And, um, not to mention a few different movies, if you're like, you know, be more broad than, rather than just a single character. And they actually smell like real flowers. I don't know if anybody else does that. Yeah. Wow. That's awesome. Yes. They smell just like real flowers. So a lot of our, our, um, clients have actually commended us on that and really like that, that little special little Disney magic that we can bring to them. Oh yeah. And we also have, um, like you said earlier, phone grip bees that are also inspired by different characters and um, a lot of the ones at our shop on, um, it's really easy to find our shop. It's very desk mouse, teak.com. Um, a lot of the ones that we're selling recently are floral as well. So it's a black mouse head and then there's different color flowers to signify as the Disney princesses or things like that. So, yeah, it's really great.

Speaker 1:

So what is the most unusual, whether it be a phone grippy or the ears, what do you think is the most unusual design you've done?

Speaker 3:

Most unusual design. I would have to say more for my twin four year old nephews. Actually. They wanted, they wanted Pika Chu and a Batman on a yellow mouse head. So that's totally off the wall, but I made it for them and they absolutely love it. They sleep with them.

Speaker 1:

Oh, how cute. Oh my goodness. Now, do you do custom orders then? Or do you just have what's available in your shop?

Speaker 3:

We do do custom orders. Um, I actually have somebody that I'm speaking to right now. We're trying to get the details set and I don't do any extra charge for any custom orders, especially on the phone groupies and the floral ears as well. If they think of something that I can't think of, I will make it happen and we'll go from there.

Speaker 1:

Wow. Very nice. Wonderful. And so what was the inspiration for you to start your business?

Speaker 3:

So the reason I actually started my businesses, I was making my own ears, um, to go to Disneyland actually at first cause my husband and I are actually originally from Southern California and we lived about 10 minutes away from Disneyland. So we were season pass holders and I would make my own ears all the time. And I had numerous other guests or cast members were actually asking where I got them and who made them for me. So I told I had made them, you know, people were saying, you should just start making them and selling them. So here we are. And we started, um, only a few months ago. I want to say back in, uh, February, March is when we first started and we've been selling them ever since. Oh my goodness.

Speaker 1:

Wow. So how do you think then your products can add some Disney magic to our listeners lives?

Speaker 3:

So I think we, the way we can show, give them a little bit more Disney magic is that we can customize their ears. So if they have an idea in mind that, you know, the say they have matching t-shirts for their family vacation, going to Disney world, we can kind of customize their ears to make them, you know, so they fit because I don't know about juveniles, but I love to match my whole outfit. So I'll have ears and some kind of a small emphasis t-shirt that I made and purple I shot on that day. You know, everything has to match for me. So,

Speaker 1:

Oh, and that's half the fun of going to Disney is planning out those outfits that are revolve around a character or an attraction that's for sure.

Speaker 3:

Oh, definitely. My husband thought I was absolutely crazy that I was going to make all of our shirts for Disney and I made because my husband and I, and we took our oldest nephew last October and I made all of our shirts for the whole seven days that we were there. So I made 21 different shirts. Oh my goodness. Yeah. He thought I was absolutely nuts, but I have the time of my life.

Speaker 1:

Well, she was good. Well, and at least it sounds like he was a good sport about it.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah. He wore his favorite shirt that he wore was my favorite Disney villain is my wife.

Speaker 1:

Aw. Oh my goodness. So if I were planning a upcoming, if I were planning a trip and I wanted to get some ears, what is the turnaround time? Like how early would I need to order from you to make sure that I had them in time?

Speaker 3:

Well, if they're in stock, they would have them within the week. I have them already ready-made if they're on my website, they're in stock. If there's a custom order, maybe a week or so. Cause I usually takes me about a day, maybe two to make a custom order. And then I get them in the mail that next day. And I also give them their tracking number so they can track it and I can track it. And I haven't had any problems yet. So

Speaker 1:

great. And now I have to always ask this. So I, I have a big head and one of the things like the Disney ears, like the ears, they sell it, the parks, like the headbands, those hurt my head. Are your products. How, what, what are the, some of the things with your products?

Speaker 3:

Ours are bigger size. I say they can fit from four years and up, but I actually have a bigger head myself and I have the same exact problem. I, you know, I flew fine a lot of Disney years cute, but I would put them on. And by the end of the day, they were hurting by my ear and everything. These are the headbands that I use. They do not cause that problem. I wore them for almost 10 hours when I was at Disney world in October in the heat. And no, no problem whatsoever.

Speaker 1:

Well, that's always good to hear because I like you, you can't stand when they like your head's hurting and you want to have them on for all the pictures and stuff. So that's good. Good to hear that's for sure. Now with your phone grippy, so about what size are those? Cause I know sometimes those can vary in size for phones,

Speaker 3:

right? So from ear to ear, um, they're about two and three quarters inches. The actual circle itself is a little more than two inches, so they're really small. Okay. You know, if you get a regular circle sized, um, foam grip, it's, it fits almost a little bit bigger than that. So it's not huge.

Speaker 1:

Okay. And then they're ones that are they removable, like you could take them off and could you reuse them on another one or no?

Speaker 3:

Yes. You can take them off and reuse them so you can switch them out to match your efforts as well. Oh well, even better.

Speaker 2:

So, you know, with that, where can people go online to find these awesome designs?

Speaker 3:

Sure. So I have three different spots. I have my website, which is fairy dust mustique.com, a one word lowercase. And then I also have an Instagram page where I have a, um, showcase the new ears or the new phone grips that's coming out and that's fairy underscore dust, underscore mouse teak. And then I also have a Facebook group it's just fairy desk mouse teak all together. So it's pretty easy to find me, same name everywhere you look for me.

Speaker 1:

And I will make sure in our show notes, I will make sure to put links to all of those so people can find you right away. And if you have really any of those unique designs, we'll definitely be able to share some of the ones that you shared with us. I know I've had fun looking through like your Instagram page and looking at your website, some of the different things that you have, and I'm just really amazed. That's really cool about the, that you have the scent on the ears. That's really a nice added touch that I've not heard from anybody else. What I think,

Speaker 2:

Oh, excuse me. I think what's also really nice about yours is it is such a distinct look because one of my criticisms Disney's that even with all the IP, the merchandise seems to be very standard and there's very, I think a very, very limited range. And so when you go, you end up getting like, I know we were there over Christmas and there's like a holiday. Where does those spirit spirit, spirit jerseys? Well, you would probably see a hundred people wear the same one. Whereas with your design, you're going to stand out in a crowd because it's like, well, where are you? I'm wearing ears. Well, everybody's wearing eaters. Well, nobody's be wearing floral ears. And so that's what I really like your

Speaker 3:

okay, well thank you. And we do also on our website at fairy dust masks. We also have, um, light-up ears too. So I have a few different colors, yours? Yeah. My, my, um, red wine ears. Those are beautiful when you have them lit up at night with a warm white lights. Oh, wow. Okay.

Speaker 1:

Well, we will make sure to share all of your awesome designs with our listeners and we really appreciate you taking time to be on the show today.

Speaker 3:

Well, thank you so much for having me. I really appreciate it being on here

Speaker 2:

and again, thank you to Natasha for joining us today. And remember she created an exclusive code just for you and chanted 10 to say 10% of any item. So use that code on her website today to say 10% off your next order.

Speaker 1:

Yes. And of course we are going to wrap up today's show with our quick two minute trivia and our wisdom from Walt quote. So Chris, you are up with trivia. Awesome. So

Speaker 2:

here's a good trivia question. Okay. Do you know this is not the question. This is perfect. Oh, but do you have to know the name of the woman who was the voice of Ursula? I do not. You wouldn't recognize it cause um, maybe in voice actor, world she's famous, but in terms of Disney world, she's not, but originally one of the golden girls this was supposed to was supposed to voice Ursula. Give me the name of the golden girl. You don't need the name of the actress, but there's four golden girls who name all four golden girls. This is not a question either. So this is part of your question where two parts don't call golden girls fan. So you have Ruth, Ruth Estelle. No Sophia. Okay. And then you have blanche and you have Dorothy. Okay. So of those four blanche wrong, no, Dorothy, no way was supposed to be the original voice of Ursula or one of them. And again, this is according to the internet Sharon. So take it with a grain of salt. But I found that very interesting. I don't know, but I did some just general research and Dorothy from the golden girls was supposed to be the voice of Ursula. What's her real name? Well, whose real name? There are things like the actress's name. Oh,

Speaker 1:

Oh, okay. I was wondering if it was, I didn't want to make question. I asked, I asked the question. Okay. Sorry. All right. Well that is very interesting for sure. Now of course, we're going to end out with our wisdom from Walt quote and just because we talked a lot about to me, these are all, and most of these are animated characters. I pulled one of his quotes about animation. So animation offers a medium of storytelling and visual entertainment, which can bring pleasure and information to people of all ages everywhere in the world. And that is so true. Just think about all of the different attractions and shows and interactions that you have at the parks and beyond that, all revolve around these animated characters being brought to life. So, so true. And we thank you so much for joining us on this episode of the[inaudible] podcast with Vanessa and Chris I'm Vanessa and I'm Chris
