Vanessa Ferguson  2:36
Now on today's show, we're going to continue a theme that we had from our last full episode where in that episode, we talked about the best resorts for anyone traveling with kids and the families. And today we're going to talk about the best resorts to stay for adults. And Kris, and I've taken a lot of adult only visit Disney vacations we Yes, yes. So we're going to talk about some of our favorites. And then a few of the places that we haven't stayed, but a lot of people rate them as high and they're on our bucket list of where we'd like to stay. And just like we've mentioned before, in some of our other shows, we know there's lots of great options for everyone off property, especially as prices continue to go up. So depending on your budget, staying at Walt Disney World doesn't always work for you. So if you have a larger group, I think I know sometimes if people are traveling for like a bachelorette party or they're traveling with a group of family members, they might want to get a larger house. So that's where people like our friends over at Orlando vacation comm can help out. And I know I have some friends that will travel together and they'll rent a house off property. So that gives them more space. But today we're going to talk about all of those great On property options if you are going to stay at a Disney Resort. And we're going to go from Deluxe to moderate to value. And some of them we've stayed at a in each of the categories and there's a few that we haven't. So hopefully if some of you have stayed at these you can give us some of your tips. Now we're going to start off in the deluxe resorts. And Kris Do you know what are some of the resorts that are kind of on my bucket list?

Kris Johns  4:09
I do not. What is my favorite park? Is it Epcot?

Vanessa Ferguson  4:13
Yes. So I've always wanted to stay at one of the Epcot resorts. We gotten close. We've stayed at dolphin before. But on Crescent Lake, there's Disney's Beach Club, Yacht Club and boardwalk Inn. And even though we've not stayed at any of these, these are all rated pretty high is great resorts for adults. Not only do you have the nice food and typically the entertainment on the boardwalk, you have the great bakery. It's nice to walk around, you've got both transportation to Hollywood Studios. You also have now the skyliner which you know, we've talked about we love the skyline or the skyline or that you could take to Hollywood studios, or just to some of the other resorts for great dining. But really the big draw for adults is your right off world showcase.

Kris Johns  4:59
Yes.

Vanessa Ferguson  4:59
So world showcase has great food, great shopping, great entertainment. And I would say it's probably the most the area that's most geared towards adults.

Kris Johns  5:10
Definitely I agree with it.

Vanessa Ferguson  5:11
Yeah. So when you say at any of these resorts, it's really a great option for adults. We're not drinkers, but we know a lot of people like to drink around the world. Like us. We like to eat around the world. Little things like that are really great. There's also wonderful food options right at these resorts themselves. yachtsman Steakhouse just reopened. We like Katzman a lot, we're sure do they always have great steaks. And typical, typically, there's a lot of great entertainment on boardwalk. I'm right now jelly rolls, which is a dueling Piano Bar is still closed. Hopefully that was some more the entertainment things like that will open up again soon. But you have bike rentals. There's also you could take a fireworks cruise lots of great options with any of these resorts. And then if you're dBc, or you rent DVC, you have some great options there. So those are some things if you're looking at a deluxe resort, but also great access to Epcot I highly recommend any of those for an adult trip. Moving on to a more classical I would think resort and also in the deluxe category. We're going to talk about Grand Floridian and we stayed there twice. Yes, we have. And thanks to Disney fairytale weddings we had they used to do where you would get a night at a resort and we stayed at Grand Floridian twice. Of course it has that nice Victorian feel. I think just the lobby makes you feel like you're somewhere fancy, don't you think?

Kris Johns  6:36
Definitely.

Vanessa Ferguson  6:36
Yeah. So you've got the great lobby. There's nice shops there. You are on the monorail to Magic Kingdom but just being out on the marina we went to last year we when we were at the fairytale wedding showcase, we went to a event that was out on the marina where you could see the fireworks that was really awesome. And there's the boat rentals, lots of fun things to do at Grand Floridian and I think that if you're really wanting to splurge and just have a fancy experience, a lot of people would go for grand, great idea. Yeah, so the grandparent and kind of rounds out our Deluxe resorts. I would also say we have an honorable mention in the deluxe category, which is an overall honorable mentioned runner up. And that would be Wilderness Lodge. youth that stayed at Wilderness Lodge Have you

Kris Johns  7:23
I have now I've stayed in the wilderness. But

Vanessa Ferguson  7:27
I've stayed at Wilderness Lodge and my family, we had the nice benefit of getting some pixie dust and being upgraded to a nice suite there. But it's just we've traveled a lot to national parks. And we've actually been to the lodge that the Wilderness Lodge is based off in. And that's really cool. So if you like to travel and do things that aren't as Disney esque, I guess I would say it gives you that feeling like you're at one of the National Parks out west, whether at Yellowstone or Grand Tetons or Grand Canyon or something like that. Um, so you really get that ambience and that feeling and just sitting in the lobby with the big fireplaces. There's great food there as well. So those are some great options in the deluxe category. Up next we have the moderate resorts. And I would say we've stayed at moderates, mostly out of our state.

Kris Johns  8:16
That's more of our budget, I think for us to you know, we're more people when I put our money in the park versus a hotel room.

Vanessa Ferguson  8:22
Yeah, cuz I think we spend so many hours at the parks themselves. And in this category, we have stayed at all the ones that we're going to mention just because we do do a lot of the moderates. The first one is one that's a little bit on the pricier side of the moderates, and it's one that we stayed at fairly recent in terms of when we've tried a new one and that's the grand destino tower, which is kind of a sister resort slash adjacent to Coronado Springs Resort. And it's very modern. It's really cool the lobby the rooms I thought this hotel was pretty awesome. What did you think? Oh, I

Kris Johns  8:58
thought it was very nice.

Vanessa Ferguson  9:00
It seemed much higher level than what you see at some of the other moderates. So that's something that's really cool. And so it has number one it has club level which is the only moderate resort that has it. It has kind of a modern feel just going down we've went down to the lower lobby and there's like a bar area there but we were there at Christmas time and they had a huge Christmas tree that went up to several floors. It's just really beautiful lobby area the rooms have kind of a just a fancier feel to them. The some of the restaurants they're great. So Grandis, Dino tower, I would say has the most adult feel of any of the moderate resorts. It definitely feels like you're spending more than what you are. And it is nice because with it being adjacent to Coronado springs, you have all of the you know, the food court and some of the other options and pool options that are out cornado Springs as well. And we did like have joint state we had an episode which I'll go back and I'll share that episode in the show notes. We did One night and grand destino tower, and then the next night we went to Coronado springs, so we could do a great comparison and I'll share that episode for everyone. Now this does during times when there's a lot of conventions going on which right now, we haven't been having that, but it was kind of designed to accommodate convention crowds that are at Coronado springs, but Gran destino tower, I highly recommend, especially for maybe a couple that's wanting to do something a little fancy, but they don't have the budget to stay at a deluxe. I would say that's a good point. When you say Kris,

Kris Johns  10:32
definitely agree.

Vanessa Ferguson  10:34
Now our favorite moderate, I guess, or I should say, my favorite moderate resort, and probably one of my favorite Disney resorts is the next one we're going to talk about. And let's see, Kris, can you remember the name of this one?

Kris Johns  10:45
port Orleans? Yes. Which one? Riverside, I think come

Vanessa Ferguson  10:51
Yes, yes, you're right. Now we've mentioned this for some of our other ones, even though it's not on the skyliner. One of the things as adults that I do like when we travel, is there are a lot of smaller pools between some of the buildings, which is great, because if you don't have little kids and you're just wanting to go Kelly kind of chill in the pool, you can go to a quieter one where there's not as big of a crowds, which is really nice. And honestly, it's it is a big resort, but it's so pretty, it's nice to walk around. I feel like you're somewhere else. We've been to places like Savannah and places like that. And it kind of gives me that sort of feel to it. It's the food courts nice there is a really nice having the boat there that you can take to Disney Springs, which for most individuals, if you're adults traveling, you're going to go to the parks, you're going to come back, head off to Disney Springs, whether for a late meal or to go shopping, because if you don't have little kids that maybe need to go to bed as early you can get take full advantage of being able to take the boat down there. I

Kris Johns  11:53
love that boat.

Vanessa Ferguson  11:54
Yeah, the boat is nice, and it's peaceful and quiet. It's just kind of a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle in the parks. And one of the things that's nice is they have a lot of rentals there. They have bikes, we've done, I'm not sure if they've started back up again yet. But when you're for our anniversary, we were there and we did a carriage ride, which was really fun. I'm really going back that's when our fifth anniversary. Do you remember the carriage ride?

Kris Johns  12:19
I don't. But I say well,

Vanessa Ferguson  12:21
I'll look for photos to try to share for that. So port Orleans, Riverside is definitely high on our list. And it's adjacent sister resort is port Orleans French Quarter. And you're if you're looking for something a little smaller, that gives you kind of that charm and that feel of New Orleans. It doesn't have as many of those amenities that we talked about with port Orleans, Riverside. But it is a nice resort, if you're looking in that same kind of category, and you still get the boat in some of those things that you get at Riverside. Now moving on from the moderates, we're going to move to the values and I only picked one value resort for which don't be picked, I picked pop century. Now a couple of things. Number one, if you're traveling with all adults, they're gonna remember one of the decades featured. So that just that nostalgic feel of being able to stay in one of the buildings that's from maybe your childhood. I love sitting. I know, I stayed there with a friend a couple of years ago, and it was pretty late at night we had came back from something. And I just sat in the lobby looking at all the displays along the wall for each of the decades because there was toys and games and all kinds of fun things that reminded me of my childhood. So that's really cool with pop century. And it is a little bit over the top. So it's great with kids, but I think adults would appreciate because they remember the things that are featured in pop century. And there's great signage as you go throughout the resort in the different decades sections that give you facts about the different years from that decade. So I know it's fun, I stayed there with my parents, we went and found the years from when they were each born in like the years when we were born. Well here we were born the same year. Um, so pop century is great in that aspect. It also gives you that ability to stay on property if you are on a budget. And of course now we keep saying you know when we're looking through resorts, but skyline or skyline or skyliner just being able to have that access to not only the two parks, so Hollywood studios and Epcot. But also the great thing is that with the access to the skyline, or you can go to some of the other resorts for additional dining opportunities and things. So pop century is definitely a great choice. It's just a fun atmosphere. And if you are on a budget, it gives you that chance to stay in the Disney bubble and still experience those things. Yeah,

Kris Johns  14:47
you definitely agree.

Vanessa Ferguson  14:48
Yeah. So that kind of rounds out our top resorts for adults. Now I know there's lots of other ones you could say. Like I like seeing at the Polynesian I've enjoyed staying at like we mentioned, Wilderness Lodge, even like Saratoga Springs is nice over by Disney Springs, it might not be a top choice for everyone. But there's lots of different things that you can find at some of the different resorts. We've stayed at old Key West has a great atmosphere for adults as well. But these are kind of our top choices when within each of those categories. So we hope this helps you if you're planning an adult's only trip to Disney very soon we are going for the 15th. And Natalie, we're staying off property for part of our trip. But we will be seeing it pop century for part of our trip as well. So we're kind of getting a mix of some of those different things on our adults only trip. Exactly. So we are looking forward to getting Clarissa's interview up and so excited to be able to hear about her business and the unique offerings that she has in her shop. We would like to welcome Clarissa to the show, her shop Mrs. And may offers a variety of accessories, but they really specialize in reusable straws, and she has some really great shirt designs as well. She's a mother of two kids. She's a military spouse, and she now lives in Virginia Beach, although she was born in Hawaii, and raised in California. So we'd like to welcome Clarissa to the show. Hi, thank you so much for having me. Now, we always like to start with an icebreaker because we love to know what people enjoy at the Disney parks. So right now we're starting to ask people what is your favorite Disney Resort? Or if you haven't stayed on property yet? Where would you like to stay?

Clarissa  16:33
I have only stayed at the Disneyland Resort. Okay, and I loved it so much. Yes. I really want to visit ilani one day, so I hope I can do that.

Vanessa Ferguson  16:49
Right. We were there in Hawaii on our honeymoon when they were building a Lani. So we got to see some of the construction. So like you we definitely want to go back to be able to visit.

Clarissa  17:00
Yeah, that would be cool. I just think it's it's different. And you know, tropical and Disney. So

Vanessa Ferguson  17:10
yeah, great commendation, for sure. Now, we want to learn all about your business. And what are the products you offer connected to Disney?

Clarissa  17:21
Of course. So I have an Etsy shop, Mrs. And may, and I sell shirts and accessories. I'm mostly known for my staple product, which is my reusable straws. They're my best seller. Everyone knows I'm the one that has them. They're fun, they're practical, they work. So I would say that's what I specialize in my straws. Sure, sure.

Kris Johns  17:55
And with that, you know really what what motivation for you to start your business.

Clarissa  18:00
Um, so in 2019, I had to resign from work. My husband was being stationed in Virginia Beach. So when we found out I was pregnant with my son at the time, so I kept thinking of ways that I could either find a new job or stay home. Sure. Enjoy my kids, and also maybe help bring in some money or just have fun, like, take the opportunity to have fun at home with my children. Now, yeah, sorry, go ahead. So I my idea was to make signs. They were super fun. And that's what I wanted to open up a smash up.

Vanessa Ferguson  18:50
And how did that evolve from there from the science to now what you offer today?

Clarissa  18:56
Yeah, so I just started I started with reverse canvases. I enjoyed making them so much. They are a lot of work. So I don't do them. Right now. I might bring them back in the future. But, you know, I started with like beachy themes, and I'm a huge Disney fan. So I did some Disney stuff. And then I found the Disney community, right. And then I was obsessed. It went from there, you know, t shirts and accessories and key chains. And that's how it started.

Vanessa Ferguson  19:32
Now, how do you think that your products can add Disney magic to our listeners lives?

Clarissa  19:39
You know, Disney people are a different kind of people. The love and support that everyone has is amazing. And my goal is just to spread that magic and continue to spread that magic and have fun while I'm doing it. You know and that's my main goal. I'll just be supportive and in love Disney the way we all do.

Vanessa Ferguson  20:06
Now, you've talked about how your straws are kind of your staple product. Now, could you tell our listeners a little bit because your straws are, I would say nicer than some of the ones that you might see like on Amazon are different things. Could you tell them a little bit about like some of your designs and what they come with?

Clarissa  20:23
Sure. So they are, they come in a case, it's an aluminum case, and I hand pick out all the cases, all the colors by hand, pick out all the designs and they're engraved onto the case. And pleats twist off, it comes with a carabiner. So you can hook it onto your bag, your belt loop, anywhere you want to hook it on to. And inside, you have a telescopic SRA is what it's called. Okay, so it's a stainless steel, sure straw that you can pull out, you can extend it to different sizes. And instead of using the paper straws that they have, I cannot stand paper straws, I can't either ban the, you know, the passion for getting rid of the plastic, right? For sure. You just pull out your straw, and you can use it instead of the paper straws. And it also comes with a telescopic brush cleaner. No. So you can take with you and you can clean it and it all just you know, they just push down and they collapse into the little carrying case.

Vanessa Ferguson  21:32
Now I know I looked at some of your designs you have like Mickey balloons and small world and different things. What are some of your like your favorite designs? Or maybe your top sellers?

Clarissa  21:43
Yeah, so our top seller is one of my original designs, which is the rose gold castle. Oh, nice. Yes. And I've sold out of that a few times. And I'm actually working on a restock now because I'm getting low. Right. But that's everyone's favorite. And I I think it's my favorite too. And then my my other favorite that I'm really proud of is my braid colored case case, shaped differently than the others. But it still fits everything perfectly fine. It's in its slender. So it's I actually like it better. should it have Mickey's fun wheel, and the ombre is blue and purple. So that's my favorite because it's the most fun,

Vanessa Ferguson  22:21
right right. Now, one of the things that is great that you mentioned, and I know anybody who has been to the parks recently, like I was there in the spring, and those paper straws just are not that great. And I just think forward to like taking our daughter back to the parks. And if you have little kids, it's I don't know about you. But most kids want to chew through those paper straws and it ends up being a mess. So having products like yours really makes it easier. And it's so nice that you can clean it and have it on the go. And that's one of the great things you can even use at home too, which is awesome as well.

Clarissa  22:54
A lot of people that, you know, because not everyone goes to the parks every day, right? But you know, I get tagged all the time. And people just out at Starbucks. Yeah. They're at work. I have a nurse. That's one of my followers. And she uses that work. It's just, it's super practical. You they work you get use out of them. They're just fun.

Vanessa Ferguson  23:12
For sure. Now you also have like some shirts and other products in your shop. What are some of maybe what's your tap design in your shirts or one of your other products?

Clarissa  23:22
Yeah, so I'm also known for my shirt designs. And right now, my best selling shirt is my witchy Mini. Oh, it's basically Mini, you know, witchy mini everyone knows which mini Yeah. And they go with, you know, loungefly and Disney's actual apparel. And it's just her flying on a broomstick, and I have the script witchy under it. And that right now is my best seller. I'm so proud of it. Oh, wow.

Vanessa Ferguson  23:49
How cute and it's perfect. Whether you're going to the parks or if you just want to have some Halloween at home. That's awesome.

Clarissa  23:56
Yeah, people, you know, they spooky season for them started last month, right? I felt pressured to figure out you know, what, what did they want? How can I spread magic them?

Vanessa Ferguson  24:08
For sure. Now, what's the turnaround time for your products? Like if I knew I was going on a trip and I wanted a shirt or a straw or just for a gift? How early Should I order from your shop?

Clarissa  24:19
I always tell people to order. You know, minimum is two weeks. Okay? We're gonna just to make sure you know, everything going on the world right now is delays things and right you know, not necessarily saying I'm delayed but you know, the post office Yes. Yeah, we all all of us small shops. No, we use the post office and and it's not their fault, but I would say you know, at least two weeks. And if anyone ever has questions, you know, message, always message I'm happy to help. But you know shirts are about I would say shirts are about one Most most everything in my shop is one to 10 business days. Okay, perfect before they ship. Right, right. Well, that's

Kris Johns  25:08
good to know what you know. And thank you. And then your two questions. The first one is where can our listeners find more about you online?

Clarissa  25:16
Yeah, so I'm very active on Instagram. So you can find me on Instagram. This isn't me. And my shop is in Etsy. So if you have an Etsy account, you just type in my name, or you can go to www dot Etsy backslash shop. backslash Mrs. mee

Kris Johns  25:37
Thank you. And then just for our listeners that Mrs. A NDMAY. So there's not an ampersand. It's an end. And then also, I think you have also have, do you the promo code for our listeners? Yes. So

Clarissa  25:52
anyone listening or any of your followers, you guys can use the code dreamer, 15. That's all caps. And you can save 15% at checkout.

Vanessa Ferguson  26:02
Awesome. And I'll make sure to put all of that information in the show notes. And we'll definitely let our listeners know all about that. Great, great,

Kris Johns  26:11
thank you. I'm very appreciative, you know, because I think on the straw side, it's just one of those things where where we live, we still have plastic straws, and you don't realize what you have until it's gone. Yeah. So for us, I know, we'll be purchasing a couple of your straws because we we have an upcoming trip. And for us, it's just one of those things that we want to have. And also, as we take our daughter, she does not do well with non plastic straws, and she has to have a straw right now for her to drink. And so that's wonderful. And I would encourage our listeners to please go look at those new designs. And again, there's things that are perfect for Halloween. And there's also things that are perfect for everyday use. And I think you know, again, Claire says designs are out of this world. Thank you so much.

Vanessa Ferguson  26:52
And thank you again for joining us today. We appreciate you taking time to tell us all about your shop.

Clarissa  26:58
Thank you so much for having me. I'm I really appreciate it. I love being here.

Kris Johns  27:03
Thank you again to Clarissa for joining us today. Don't forget to use the promo code dreamer. 15 when ordering from her shop, you say 15% of your next order.

Vanessa Ferguson  27:12
And of course we're going to round out today's show with our two minute trivia and our wisdom from Walt CO and Kris, you are up at trivia.

Kris Johns  27:20
Okay, this can be a two parter. All related. One of these resorts is Disney World's Largest convention resort. According to the website, travel Market Report calm. I would say that's cornado. That is correct. Yes. It boasts over 220 300 rooms. So the next question, there is a lounge inside the same resort named after a city in Spain. Which city is it? We ate there and I can't remember. That's terrible. Well, I'll never doubt there are two large cities in Spain that received most of the attention from things related to Spain. You know, I'm not a geography whiz, you are not.

Vanessa Ferguson  28:20
In my defense geography was not required until I was passed the grade that it was required for. So I am going to have to

Kris Johns  28:27
defer. I'll give you a hint. It's the former home of soccer player Lionel Messi.

Vanessa Ferguson  28:34
Oh, that's such a great with you with this one, Kris, because I know we've eaten there, but it's just totally slipped my mind

Kris Johns  28:42
the Barcelona lounge.

Vanessa Ferguson  28:47
Yes. And now that you say that it's like, of course I should have known Barcelona. Well, that was a good one, Kris.

Kris Johns  28:52
Thank you.

Vanessa Ferguson  28:54
All right. Well, he gets sent me on that one, that's for sure. Now, let's end with our wisdom from won't quote. And we were talking about adults. So I thought this one kind of talks about things as adults as we kind of grow and evolve. So it says courage is the main quality of leadership in my opinion, no matter where it is exercised. Usually the implies some risk, especially in new undertakings, courage to initiate something and to keep it going, pioneering an adventurous spirit to blaze new ways, often in our land of opportunity. So hopefully, if some of you have some new ideas of things you want to try whether it be a new, maybe launching your own business or launching your own podcast or something. Hopefully you have the courage to try it out. And thank you again so much for joining us on this episode of The DisLove podcast with Vanessa and Kris. I'm Vanessa and I'm Kris.
