Welcome, welcome, welcome to a Minnesota edition of the Pine Pony Podcast. As always got the OG, me and the fantasy uncle Persian.
Pershin:What's happening? Howdy. Howdy. Ready to do a little week 12 look ahead or week 13 in college football. I think
Jason:that's right. Yep. Week 12 and week 13. So let's get right on into it.
The Pied Pony Podcast.
Jason:All right, so in college football not it's the week before the final game So everyone's got their tune up games, you know, i. e clemson playing citadel You know, but there are still some really good games on the slate like indiana, ohio state that could be a division conference title game Deciding game, you know, Ohio state wins. They're, they're likely in Indiana wins. They're likely in. So this is a big time game and that's at noon, 13 and a half point favorites, Ohio state. So we'll see what happens, man. 51 and a half was
Pershin:that big, but I do think they're the better squad. So.
Jason:Agreed, I, I, we'll see what Indiana's made of, that's for sure. Another high profile game could be, could be Florida vs. Ole Miss. Florida coming off LSU, maybe, maybe they have enough in the tank to beat Ole Miss, we'll see. SMU playing Virginia. I, I don't think SMU will struggle with Virginia, but they are only a 9. 5 point favorite, so. It's in Virginia. We'll see what happens. Crazier things have happened, especially last week. A lot of ranked teams went down to unranked. And then moving on, you got BYU versus Arizona state. That's a big time matchup because that could decide the division conference champions chip game for the big 12. So the big time game, that's at three 30. And then you got Colorado playing Kansas, Colorado's just gotta, gotta win, gotta win to stay in. So we'll see if they can be Kansas. And then last game or the last two games, we got looking at army undefeated playing Notre Dame at Notre Dame, right? Oh, no, it's at Yankee stadium. Okay. So this is a neutral site game at 7 PM, which, yeah. So, I mean, you got games, you've got a good game or a game that's meaningful at the 12 o'clock at the three o'clock at the seven o'clock. And then you've even got another meaningful games, a couple of meaningful sec games at seven 30, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, A& M, Auburn, and Iowa state, Utah. So, I mean, you know, a lot of, a lot of big time games could decide some things in college football. Very excited for this weekend, moving over to the NFL. One game, let's take a look at, we're gonna look at the Packers, 49ers, as we mentioned, this is my Super Bowl. The Packers are a two and a half point favorite at home, with a 47 and a half over under. I'll be honest with you, I don't know which Packers to think of right now. Defensively, we've got a lot of, we've got a lot of injuries on defense. And we need some players to come back. And so that's really struggling there. Offensively, we'll be fine. I'm not worried about us offensively. It's just more so can we get off of the field on third downs, which we struggled with during the bears. With that being said, I do think the Packers win this game, and I think they cover, I think they win by at least three points, minimum. Probably gonna win by seven.
Pershin:Yeah. What do you think? The spread right now is at three, is that right?
Jason:All ESPN is at two and a half.
Pershin:Okay. Yeah, I would take the over there as well. I definitely like them to win, but I also like them to cover. I just think that, you know, being at home, they get a bump and I really, I like them more on a neutral site anyway. So for me, that's just kind of an easy,
Jason:easy one for you.
Pershin:Yeah, I do agree though. The defense has looked suspect lately. Maybe that's just some guys that are out. Hopefully they could get healthy if that's what's going on.
Jason:Well, it's just a thing. We don't have Jair. So it's like instead of having a single coverage We've got to have, you know, a guy over there with safety help or you know, two double covers So it's just you got it.
Pershin:You got a bracket somebody just the right we
Jason:can't play the defense that you want to play.
Pershin:Yeah Yeah, cuz Jair you could just count on him to be on the island if you need to
Jason:Yeah. And like I said last week, I mean, they got Jaden Reed a little bit more involved. I'd like to see him more involved this week coming, but you know, for what it was worth, they did, Matt LaFleur said they wanted to get them more involved. They did get them more involved. Christian Watson just happened to be the guy that week. So in our ever revolving, who's going to be the
Pershin:packers for you, man. It's there's so many mouths to feed and all of them are worthy. They all have a case to be on the field, you know? So it's like. Is it going to be Wicks? Is it going to be Watson? I mean, maybe it'll even be Dobbs, you know? It'll be Tucker Craft. It'll be Reid. Maybe it's just Jacobs all day. I mean, you just don't know.
Jason:You just don't know,
Pershin:man. You just don't know.
Jason:Jacobs being third in the league in rushing. I'll take Jacobs. Just run the ball with Jacobs all day long.
Pershin:Hey man, it's, it's still the best way to win. If you can't, if you could just play good defense and run the ball well, it is, it is the best thing to do because you know, as long as you're not fumbling the ball, you don't have to worry about all the other.
Jason:You know who else is looking good as far as running backs, Emmanuel Wilson in the backup in Green Bay. He, every time he gets the ball, he, he does something good with it. So I low key liked
Pershin:what I saw from Chris Brooks too. Like when he was in there, I was like, I never heard of this guy, but he, he looks good, like maybe
Jason:a little bit on the smaller side, but he looked good to me. I mean, on the Niner side of the ball, the Green Bay, like, it's gonna have to be a slowdown CMC. Luckily, Brock Purdy doesn't have the wheels that Caleb Williams has, so maybe we'll be able to contain him a little bit more. We didn't get any picks with Caleb Williams, so we'll see if the Packers, and that, see, that's another part of that game, where the defense is struggling because they, they normally get turnovers and they didn't in that game. So, you know, if Brock Purdy can take care of the ball, though, this will be a close game.
Pershin:Yeah, I think the they definitely have the horses they be in Green Bay has the horses to Put pressure on when they they're I feel like when they do scheme up blitzes a lot of times They are successful at getting pressure and the 49ers this year have been Uncharacteristically suspect in the pass blocking with the offensive line really has not been Has not played to the same degree that they played the past couple of seasons And so you've seen that in kind of a lack of running lanes for CMC last week You see that and how much pressure Brock Purdy is having to deal with You know game in and game out and the fact that they don't have Brandon Iuke And George Kittle might be available, but even if he is available, he'd be playing through injury. I think that this is the best possible time for the Packers to win here. I think that as things stand you know, I think they actually come into this as the better team, which is something you never thought you'd be saying about the 49ers. You know, the Kings of the NFC the past three years, but but yeah, they, they've been exposed in a couple of different ways. And so it'll definitely be an interesting game to watch. I want to see how it plays out.
Jason:Staying in the division Vikings versus the bears. I find this interesting just because of how well the bears played against the Packers. And it'll be interesting to see them go up at the current time. Next level team, like the Packers are. They're good and I love them and I love that team, but the Vikings right now are playing, I feel like a little bit better on offensive side of the ball. So it'll be, it'll just be interesting to see if you know, the bears can keep Sam Darnold and company from scoring and also. Score on, you know, a Flores is defense and, and see what happens there. What do you think about that game? Minnesota is a three and a half point spread over under is 39 and a half.
Pershin:Yeah, I think those are about right. I, I wouldn't want to place a bet on either side of those. I think that it'll probably be a close game and Minnesota probably will be the better team when it's said and done. I like. I like how Darnold is actually kind of resilient this season. It's like, he's playing with confidence and when things go poorly, it's like, he just bounces back, you know, he's, he throws a bonehead interception, but instead of like, Oh man, like getting shook, he's like, he's back in it, throwing darts here and there. Yeah.
Jason:I mean, he is on pace with Mahomes to lead the league in interceptions. So
Pershin:yeah, no, he, he is throwing his fair share of It's just not causing him to completely unravel the way that we've seen that happen to him in in seasons past. So I just really like the floors defense to cause a lot of trouble here. Yeah Yeah, sorry. I really like floors defense too. And I think that's the difference in this game
Jason:and I agree with you and that's why I think my minnesota absolutely covers and I think kayla williams is You He had a good game. I don't think he'll have a good game against this defense, despite it being in Chicago, I do think Minnesota wins by two touchdowns.
Pershin:Oh, wow. Yeah. I, I think that just like. In the way that Minnesota's defense will cause troubles for the rookie quarterback, I do think that Chicago's defense is also really good, and I do think that they're gonna give trouble to Darnold. I wouldn't be surprised if they intercepted him a couple times. That's why I think it'll be a little bit closer than you would say. Either way, we're, we're, we still have had the same pick here.
Jason:That's right. We did a divisional implication game that I wanted to point out. Cardinals Seahawks Seahawks are a one point favorite at home, 12th man, 47 and a half over under. Ooh, this game is going to be a spicy one at four 30. I mean,
Pershin:I was thinking about this game earlier, man. I'm having a hard time to be honest with you. I'm having a hard time deciding who I would want to bet on here.
Jason:I'm not touching it.
Pershin:Yeah. I, I think that's the recommendation here is just stay away from it because weird things happen in, in that football stadium, man, weird things happen in that football stadium. And I just feel like the Cardinals actually do have. The better all around team coming into this game, but yet it just wouldn't shock me if they ended up getting smacked because like Seahawks. Yeah. I just feel like the Seahawks just, they have a way of really turning it up at home. And I feel like this season has been no different and I just, they just feel like such a wild card.
Jason:Yeah. They, well, they are two and four at home. So there you go. Not a big time winners at home. So that's why they got the one point favorite. Yeah. I don't, I'm with you, man. I don't know who to, who to take in this game. So I wouldn't, I wouldn't touch it. I don't trust the Seahawks to win this game. You know, and like you said, I think the Cardinals are the better team. The only thing I would trust is I think the over, I think they would get over 47 and a half. So, and then another game, the nighttime game, Sunday night game, Eagles, Rams. You know, looking at the, the, the standings or the records, five and five Rams taken on the eight and two Eagles. You wouldn't think much about this game, but the Rams are playing to keep the playoff hopes alive. It's a mean outside of Saquon Barkley. The Eagles are. They kind of flip flop. They kind of struggle here and there with teams, maybe they should. And they don't always play up to the potential that they should. So I think this is definitely a game to keep your eye on. Philly is a three point favorite on the road. 48 and a half over under you know, I mean, the Rams, Matthew Stafford and Cooper cup been linking up hot puka Nuku'a hot Rams are playing good. What do you think?
Pershin:Yeah, the, the Rams are. Absolutely a team on the rise right now. We talked last week a little bit about how their, their, their young defensive players are really starting around the corner and becoming like productive guys, getting a lot of pressure on the, on the opposing quarterback, and now we're seeing on the offensive side, their offensive line getting healthier and Kyra Williams becoming more efficient as a runner. And you got both Cooper cup and Pukanukuwa back in the fold. All of a sudden you're like, wow, the offense is putting up numbers. I think they, they've had at least 26 points in four of the last five games. I don't see them slowing down. I think that this, they're going to make a game of this. I think this is going to be a closer game than people would think based on the records of these two teams, because the Rams really are getting better on both sides of the ball right now. At the same time. You really got to be impressed with the way that the defense is has progressed for the Eagles though Vic Pandeu has got those guys playing better every week than they were the previous week They just continue to get better and better. They don't even have to pass anymore It seems like over the past month They've hardly even passed because all they need to do is play defense and Saquon Yeah, they're they're opening up Yeah, they're opening up, yeah, let, let him 180 reverse hurdle the, the, the opposing defense yeah. So they haven't even needed to pass, but I think if they did need to pass, they've got the horses for that too. I do think that they win and I think that they cover, I think the spread when I saw it was like four points, is that right? Four and a half.
Jason:ESPN got it at three right now. Oh, it could be, it could be four. It could be, I
Pershin:definitely like them to cover at three.
Jason:I, I like the Rams, man. I like the Rams at home. I'm taking the Rams in this and I'm taking them.
Pershin:I'm taking them.
Jason:Not only do I think the Rams win outright.
Pershin:Oh
Jason:yeah.
Pershin:All right. All right. Well, there you go. Our first disagreement. I like it. I like it. We'll see. We'll see.
Jason:The next game that we're going to talk about is the Ravens versus the Chargers. Both of them got seven wins. Another tough defense for the Ravens to go up against. So we will see if Lamar is the true MVP, as you said on the previous episode. And I think we will be proven. I will be proven right. I think the Chargers win this game at home. They shut down Lamar. It's, and it's a wild game. That's why I think they win. It's just crazy. Baltimore is a three point favorite, 49 and a half over under. No, sir. No, sir. Yeah, man. Give me the Chargers. What do you think, man?
Pershin:Lamar bounces back. He proves that he can get it done against good defenses too. And he is going to be such a headache for the chargers that not only do they win, but I also like the over I, the over is at 49 points, which some would argue is already a pretty high over considering it's two above average defenses here. But I'm telling you, the Ravens are going to put up points and the chargers are going to be forced to chase. I'll. I like the Chargers to put up more points than you'd expect, but still lose. I like the over, and I like the Ravens to cover here.
Jason:Everything about your assessment I hate. I want the under and the chargers to win.
Pershin:I'll tell you next week's pod. You're going to be like, yep, Lamar back in the first place for the MVP race.
Jason:We shall see. We shall see what any other props or games that you wanted to mention that you saw early on this week?
Pershin:Yeah, yeah, there's a bunch of props already out early. I don't know if it's just because we're getting towards the end of the season, places are more willing to put them out early in the week. But that being said, just quickly, my favorites that I've found so far, Cedric Tillman, over 42 yards, receiving against Cleveland on Thursday. I understand, I mean against the Steelers on Thursday, I understand the Steelers do have a good defense, but the thing is that man, Cedric Tillman is getting way more than this. Like since Amari Cooper has left and he's taken over that role, he's averaging, I think it's 74, almost double that 42 number. He's going to get that number, smash that. Also, as I already hinted at, I really liked the chargers to be chasing the Ravens. The chargers have been something of a run first team for most of this season, but I think they're going to have no choice but to pass. And so I like Herbert to get more than two 45 passing yards. And I like Vladimir Conkey to get more than 62 receiving yards. Really, Vladimir Conkey has already gotten over this in four of the last five weeks anyways. The fact that they're probably going to be in a negative game script certainly helps. I also like the Brock Bowers against the Broncos. He's at 62. 5 receiving yards. I like the over. The Broncos defense is pretty good in general, but what they do is they kind of funnel things toward the middle of the field and particularly to the slot or the, In this case, Brock Bowers is the tight ends, but he usually plays out of the slot and he gets a lot of that underneath stuff. I think that he'll just get as much as he, as he has all season, which his average is more than 62 anyways. And then on top of that, Last one. I really love Calvin Ridley going up against Houston. I expect Houston to put up some points here and Calvin Ridley ever since the Andre Hopkins left has been averaging way more than 62 yards receiving his over under this week is at 62 yards receiving. I love the over smash it. Smash all of those. Those smash
Jason:it, smash the like button. All right. Well, that's all the scoops that we got for you this week. Tune in next week. Then we'll give you some more as always. You can come hang, hang out with us. No, don't say that
