Welcome, welcome to another edition of the Pine Pony podcast. As always, you got me the og, hanging out with the fantasy uncle just whipping my ass in fantasy football making me hate life. What's up, Persian?
Pershin:What's up? Yeah, had a, had a, a really good win in the, the league that we're in this week. I think I won by like 130 points or something ridiculous like that. But it wasn't you. Yeah, I know, but it was Victor. It was you. You played
Jason:someone else, friend of the pod Smith who whooped on me with the his hand me downs. Yeah. Oh yeah, that's right. Been an abysmal year. I saw, I saw his year one in one in seven. Yes. Against the league median and Oh no, the other people's. So, and another league, I'm, I'm one in four and then in my other, my final league, I'm three and two. So holding on to that one league, trying to cut my losses with a win there.
Pershin:Yeah, you could do some pretty gnarly comebacks with the the median plus the matchup, but a one in seven, I don't know. You might wanna start thinking about dumping some of the old players getting some draft picks or something.
Jason:Oh, wait till you see my waiver wire, buddy. Wait till you see the wave wire. All right. Or at least what I'm gonna hopefully do in the wave wire anyway, nonetheless. Well, we're gonna talk more fantasy later on. NCAA M-L-S-M-L-B-N-F-L. We got it all. Let's get to it. Let's start the show.
Pershin:Oh hell yeah.
Jason:Alright, so we'll begin our show in the ncaa, which was another week of upsets. If anything, I'm certain that the NIL and the transfer portal have just even the playing field, you know, just more teams get to play and, and beat each other. So a couple of the games that were tight, Miami versus Florida State, that was the big game this weekend. Miami ended up winning that. So nothing crazy there, but it did. Ideally for a Clemson fan, Florida State winning, winning that game would've been better'cause then we could own a tiebreaker by beating them. But, and Miami would have a loss in the a CC tho that those US Clemson fans holding out hope Penn State, Penn State got upset this weekend. UCLA unranked one in four UCLA, they were oh and four. Oh and four until this. Until this game? Yeah.
Pershin:Wow. Wow. Oh, that's crazy. Penn State. Oh one four. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Ouch.
Jason:UCLA, man, whooped that ass. 42 37. And then also another top 10 team got beat. Texas Arch Manning in Texas. Got beat by Florida 29 21. Just incredible.
Pershin:The Arch Manning is not coming out this year, right? Like he's gotta play at least another season before he gets drafted, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Jason:man. But he's on par with the other Mannings, so I mean, it doesn't really matter about team. And then the other big game they were at game day was at this game, Vandy built Van Vandy. I wanted to say Vandy, but I said Vanderbilt. So Vanderbilt. Yeah,
Pershin:I like it. Yeah. I wish everyone said Vanderbilt, honestly.
Jason:So Vanderbilt versus roll Tide Vanderbilt was five and o coming into this game, and it lost 30 to 14. Just couldn't, couldn't do it second half. Really, really killed them. They was tie game at halftime, couldn't score. Turned the ball over. I watched this game. It was rough in the second half for Vanderbilt. At one point, Bama scored. This was their chance. Yeah, I Bama scored and I was like this, this just feels over.
Pershin:I felt like this was gonna be their, their chance to like, really prove that they're for real, you know? Yeah,
Jason:me too, me too. Still a lot of football left though. Number 14, Iowa State got beat by Cincy. That's, that's, you know.
Pershin:But, so this is the second upset that since he's had this season, right? They, they knocked off another, somebody, didn't they? You look
Jason:at their schedule, they, no, this is the first like ranked to upset, I guess. Yeah, yeah. Oh, okay. And then Clemson came right out the gate, looked like they should have looked the entire season. I mean, first play from scrimmage was a touchdown pass, and then it just didn't stop from there. They had 30 something points in the first half and they didn't score again in the second half. I think they, they put in the backups against Bill Belichick. They said they gave him enough.
Pershin:Man, I'm shocked at how bad this thing is going for Belichick right now. I mean, and
Jason:every week there's like a new report or something where it's like, oh, we're not gonna congratulate anyone on, we're not gonna do any social media. And like it, so no one was congratulating Drake Bay on his big game. So it's like, it's just weird. Super weird. I mean, at what point, what, what, which donor's gonna come in and donate 60 million to buy this guy out?
Pershin:I could totally see that happening
Jason:nonetheless. Next week in the NCAA world, big game, Ohio State versus Illinois number one versus number 17, five in oh Ohio State, five in one Illinois Big 10 matchup. This Illinois wins this game. This could be a deciding factor later on down the line in Big 10 championship game and college football playoff. So big time game. Big time game. Go fighting Ella and I. And then we got, and we got number eight, Bama four and one versus number 14. Mizzou five at, oh, another big time game. Oh, look at Mizzou. That's what I'm saying, man. Look at MOU five. All these teams are like legit.
Pershin:Mizzou's. The next Vandy man. Here's your chance. Be Alabama so we can say, all right, they, they for real. And
Jason:then Clemson fans are rooting for Florida State win against Pittsburgh. It's, it is not really a big time matchup. Just, just kind of hopeful.
Pershin:Just for like playoff aspirations here? Yeah, because essentially
Jason:Clemson has two losses in the a, CC. So their way to get to the playoffs is by winning the a CC championship again. And in order to do that, we need a bunch of teams in front of us to lose. Oh, Pittsburgh being one of them.
Pershin:I see what you're saying. Yeah.
Jason:And then, oh, top 10 matchup, Indiana versus Oregon. Both teams are five and oh, another big 10 matchup deciding future future games. And then we got a five and Oh, Oklahoma versus Unranked, Texas. So interesting. Florida versus number five, Texas a and m. See if they can pull off the magic again. I mean, it's a, you know, it's a lot of good, good matchups here in college football, so we'll see. We'll see what happens. I. Unfortunately I'll be in San Jose, so I probably won't be watching any football. But yeah, I love
Pershin:it. I'll be rooting for Illinois and Indiana to win those matchups. I,
Jason:yeah. Yeah. Should be, should be a good weekend. Alright, moving on over to the MLS. So we're coming down to the final match, match day, final match day. And the east has pretty much, the teams have been decided on who's making the playoffs, the switch up. It could be seeding. So Charlotte right now is sitting in fourth, fourth seed, and in order to keep the fourth seed they need a win here. And unfortunately, they, they have to play the. Top the best team in the league, the Philadelphia Union, for their final game. So that's gonna be a tall task, but if we were to lose that game, you could drop as far as seventh. So from fourth to seventh, depending on other teams winning and things of that nature.
Pershin:Right. Well I think it's kind of cool in one aspect. I mean, it's a harder opponent, so you don't like that. But if they do get the win, you know, theoretically they're trying to win a championship. So if you do get the win, you at least can have that confidence that like we could play with anyone. This is the best team. We've been doing well lately and we just took down the best team as we enter the playoffs. You know, we, we could play with anyone. This is our championship.
Jason:Yeah, I like that train of thought man. I like that train of thought. So for the East, we got Philadelphia, Cincy, those two are locked in at one and two. Then we got Miami, Charlotte, New York City, FC, Nashville, all playing for like four through seven or yeah, three through seven. I mean if Charlotte wins Miami ties or lose, or excuse me, if Miami loses, there could be a tiebreaker change there. So you got Miami and Charlotte, the only ones in maybe New York City, FC fighting for three through fi five. But Charlotte and New York City could all, could both go down to six and seven as well. So anyway, Nashville, Orlando, Chicago, and then Columbus that rounds out the east and then in the west side. Very many teams are still in this picture. So starting up, we got San Diego, I think this is our first season. Vancouver, Minnesota, LAFC, Seattle, Austin, and Portland. And still in the hunt for the remaining placement is Dallas, salt Lake Car, Colorado and San Jose.
Pershin:And so San Diego is, is actually an expansion team that's currently first. Yeah. In the west.
Jason:That usually happens though. Wow. That usually happens in any expansion. If you remember a few years ago, the Golden Knights of the NHL, their first like two seasons were really, really Oh, that's right. They've kind of leveled off now. But still, I mean, even in MLS St. Louis, their first season was really, really good. So.
Pershin:Yeah, I guess I'm just looking from the NFL perspective, right? A lot of history of expansion, struggling. And then I guess the last time, the last time we had an expansion was Panthers Jags, right? Mm. Texans. Well, they moved, right? They moved from Houston. Houston to their, wait, so all they, they, they, they became the Texans instead of the Oilers, right? Something like that. Anyway, Something
Jason:like that. Well, that's because the NB NFL does it differently than like MLS. You do an expansion draft, so each team ha elects players eligible for set draft, and then the new team gets the draft from players on other teams. So. Whereas the NFL, it's like nice I, and I can't remember if they do that, but it's, I don't, but
Pershin:they were giving them right compensatory picks. So like, they would, they would have they would have like the first overall pick of the first round, but then they would get the last two picks of the first round also. And they, they did the same thing for the, like the first three rounds I think. So they just got a bunch of extra, like young players, I guess.
Jason:Right, right, right. So, so it's a little bit different. I think NHL does it similarly. And then a quick update in MLB, the brewers leading the Series two Zero. They're, they're playing the Cubs, Cubs get waxed right now. And then the Dodgers fillers, Philly Series Dodgers lead at Series two Zero as well. And then the Tigers Mariner Series, Seattle, first time in the playoffs in a long time leading the series two to one, and then Yankees, blue Jays Yankees won. So the series is taught is two to one Toronto doing the Lord's work, doing the Lord's work, beating the Yankees, so, right. Yeah, man, I mean ML B's firing up. I have recently become a Brewers fan. Yeah. Because of my recent trip to Lambo, so Nice. You know, jumping on the bandwagon and everybody I went with is a Brewers fan, so, you know, we keep in touch in the group chat, so it just only seems fair to just jump in. They're they're feeding you that, that brewers propaganda. Exactly. Exactly. And you know what? I like their logo. For what it's worth. I like the colors, like the logo, the the field is spectacular. It
Pershin:is actually a cool logo. It
Jason:is actually. And who doesn't love a team that has running sausages like in the middle of an inning? You know, you've got there, you know, Italian, all these other sausages that, that raise each other, so That's right. It's a real fun environment. But yeah, it was cool. I went there when I went up to Lambo and they got like a, a golf simulator inside with like lazy boys and all kinds of cool stuff that you can sit there and just watch the game and hang out. Yeah.
Pershin:Yeah. Nice. Let's
Jason:go Brewers. Yeah, let's go Brewers Best record in baseball. Alright, and then let's, let's get to it, man. Let's, let's get onto the NFL man. I got some wild news that happened over the weekend. Mark Sanchez, did you hear about this? Yeah, I know you were at Furnace Fest, so
Pershin:I, I heard, I heard about it, but I still don't understand the details. I, I heard from somebody else at the festival that it was Mark Sanchez got stabbed, but immediately got arrested himself and I assume charged with something. Could you explain the details as you understand? Well, so the
Jason:news broke that Mark Sanchez was stabbed and that was, he was not gonna be doing the, the call on Sunday. And then, you know, several hours later. News broke again that he was being arrested and then a video broke out that showed him attacking a door dasher. And then at some point the door dasher fending him off and then he attacked him again and the door dasher stabbed him in self-defense. I just like, wow. Yes, so, and he's facing like felony charges, like so
Pershin:Yeah, I mean, that sounds bad. It sounds the only
Jason:guy to fumble two careers. That sounds like he was the one.
Pershin:Yeah. I
Jason:mean, I mean, what was he angry about? You got then the guy,
Pershin:the guy. The guy had a knife but fended you off the first time and you still went back after Exactly. Like at, at some point he's gonna use that knife. Right. So I mean, it's
Jason:just like, it's just mind blowing. Like, and the worst thing about it is you, you know, it's like, bro, his last name's not doing him many any good in America. Like now you're gonna have felony charges, man, they might send you to El Salvador.
Pershin:Yeah. You know
Jason:what I mean?
Pershin:Yeah. They might send you to fucking alligator Auschwitz or whatever they're calling it.
Jason:Dude, not looking good for old Marc Sanchez. They might just
Pershin:send you to, to, they might just send you to St. Louis processing Center. You know what's worse is
Jason:how has he not already been fired? Like they haven't, no one's come out and said anything. It's like, that's the first thing once you realize that he is the reason he got stabbed.
Pershin:Oh, I, I'm assuming they are absolutely going to find him. They're gonna have
Jason:to and then bad bunny. We, I meant, I meant to talk about this last week, but I forgot. Bad Bunny, super Bowl, halftime show. I mean, could not have picked a better artist for this time period in America to get all of Maga butt hurt. And what's even, what the best thing that I find about it is, so you go on these MAGA podcasts or whatever, and, and one was shown to me via threads and this, this girl was going on and on on about it, and she asked this other female's opinion and the, and the other girl was like, yeah, I don't really care. It doesn't, it doesn't really matter to me. And she, and she responded with, well, he's not American or whatever. And the other person was like, he's from Puerto Rico, that's part of America dear. And like, I was just like, and the girl quickly like, flipped the script and just kept like, acknowledged. Like it didn't even have in her fuck up. So I, I'm loving it. Yeah. And then his response on SNL, I don't know if you watched that, but he was on SNL this past weekend and he did his monologue in English, but then at the end he, he did, you know, and for all of my Latinos and this Latinos in, in Spanish. And he said, for those of you that didn't understand what I just said, you have four months to learn. I was like, bro, mega.
Pershin:I love it. I love it. Yeah. The, i, I don't know bad Bunny's music, but I understand the situation and I think it's just, it's just crazy how people are, are really, really down to crash out over a Cracker Barrel logo and the halftime artists and, and these things that don't matter nearly as much as what their, their dude is doing right now. Well, and the
Jason:crazy part is, is like, it, it, it doesn't take rocket science to understand why Bad Bunny is the Super Bowl halftime artist. He's the number one most downloaded artist of all time. He is international. Yeah, international, global. Worldwide. I mean, he is more worldwide than Mr. Worldwide. Mr. 3 0 5 and
Pershin:nice.
Jason:And. You have a, the NFL trying to extend their reach outside of the United States. Well why? Who else would you put on there? Bad bunny, global guy trying to extend your reach. It, it just, it makes sense,
Pershin:right?
Jason:And
Pershin:yeah, I mean they, they've already had Taylor Swift and they wanna have her back apparently, or something like that. But the thing is like, there's only one Taylor Swift. Where do you go from there? Oh, the most downloaded musician in the world sounds like a, a great next step. You know what I mean? If, if you trying to get the biggest pop stars in the world, then, I mean, this guy sounds like he's, it, I guess he's not my cup of tea because none, none of my algorithms have recommended him. But
Jason:he ain't your cup of tea though.
Pershin:Certainly. Certainly, I don't hate it at all. And I love the, the sort of response he had on SNL. And frankly, I just, I love anyone who just gets the snowflakes booty hole. Oh, well, he
Jason:got the snowflakes, booty hole sew traps. That kid rock had to insert his 2 cents and again, complain about, oh, I can't, him not being American when anybody with two brain cells knows that Puerto Rico is also American. But the, you know, Donald Trump is gonna go talk to the president of Puerto Rico being him himself. So, you know, whatever, whatever, you know, you cannot make this stuff up. Nonetheless, but, and, and not to mention he's already been on the Super Bowl halftime stage once before with Shakira, who's not. An American artist along with all of these other people who are not American artists. You too. You know?
Pershin:Yeah. It has never mattered before. Americans always love the fucking Beatles. They always love to clash and the sex pistols and they love the fucking oasis. And they, no one ever gave two fucks about any of this shit until now. Until now, until, and everybody knows that it never mattered if anyone was the s the Democrat's
Jason:fault. It's the Democrats God, those guys.
Pershin:I mean, here, here's the thing, is that if, if we're gonna be really tight and restrictive about who gets to be an American and who doesn't get to be American, how's about, let's start by a simple civics test and everyone who doesn't know which territories are American. You fail the civics test and you probably, well, they do. Don't, don't deserve to be American. Well, they
Jason:actually do do that for non-Americans trying to become American. And most Americans would actually fail that test. Yeah. Including myself. So, yeah.
Pershin:And the crazy thing is that Bad Bunny not probably knows way more about American civics than kid. He's got
Jason:better English than Melania Trump. Nonetheless we could hold a second Super Bowl where it's the two worst teams in the NFL and Kid Rock headlines, the concert of that Super Bowl. How about that?
Pershin:Yeah. And then instead of the Puppy Bowl, it could be like the Snake Bowl. The Snake bowl or the, the Rat Bowl or, so whatever people hate.
Jason:Yeah. It could be this. Anyway, nonetheless, let's get off track. Anyway I noticed Ed Hocka Lee's son, who I cannot remember his first name for the life of me, is starting to get buff. Man. I think he's taking in his dad's footsteps and wearing the short sleeve zebra stripes, you know, really showing those muscles. And then
Pershin:is he practicing in the mirror? Yes. And Mr. Mahomes? Oh, yes, and Mr.
Jason:Oh, wow. Unbelievable. No more undefeated teams after this week. And the Cardinals are oh and three since hosting the Charlie Cook Kirk Memorial. So, talk about irony. Yeah, man, there's a lot of games that there was a deficit overcome. Titans, Arizona Panthers, Miami Broncos, Philly Saints, giants, commanders Chargers. You know, I got beaten in fantasy by Rico Dodo, who had no business getting 37 points this game. And for whatever reason he did,
Pershin:bro. What the hell? Yeah. What the hell? 200 Dodo. I, I had no 200
Jason:yards is the first time in Panther history since 2012. DeAngelo Williams. Yeah.
Pershin:I would think this is cool except for the fact that I got Chuba Hubbard in multiple fantasy leagues right now and I feel like when he comes back they're gonna be like, nah, you split and work for sure. You, you the one B and Rico Doddle is the fuck.
Jason:Look, I don't care what they do in Carolina, as long as Eric Collins can continue calling more Panthers games because for those not familiar, he is one of the best voices of basketball of all time, Charlotte basketball. He's just fantastic to listen to and it seems like everybody in the rest of the country got a taste of him on NFL side of things. So it was just interesting to see on good Morning football that they were talking about him. That was fun. Nice. The Browns had a rookie quarterback and a rookie running back. The quarterback threw for two touchdowns no picks. The running back had 110 yards. The defense forced two turnovers and got three sacks and still lost. I don't know what you do as a Browns fan if you, where do you go from here other than fire? Kevin Stefanski and I'm gonna beat that drum until it happens.
Pershin:And, and they're leading receiver Isaiah Bond also? Yeah.
Jason:And they're still losing games. This is a coaching issue. Clearly the talent was on the field. And for, for, for this reason, fire Stefanski and Fire Dbol and Joe Shin because all this tells me, and I know Jackson Dart had a terrible game, but the, but the offense just looks more exciting with him in, and to me, Russell Wilson and Joe Flaco should have never started the season.
Pershin:Man, I, I, I do think that the offense does look better with Jackson Darden. It just because they're able to run those design runs with him, that, that kind of keep defenses on their toes or whatever. But honestly, the thing that's the best about the Giants right now is clearly Scab boot. And I think they should just be handing it off to him. Every other player. Yeah, for sure. I mean. If, if you're not going to be competitive and make a Super Bowl run, at least entertain us and the boys entertaining.
Jason:I'll give you that. I'll give you that, but nonetheless. All right, so well, let's talk about the bills versus the Patriots. Stefan Diggs revenge game. Drake may absolutely balling out in the second half. It, it was good to see Diggs finally not be a big baby and be a leader on the sideline and in the game. Get the team going.
Pershin:Yeah,
Jason:the, the, the play with two minutes left where it looked like Drake May was gonna get sacked and he somehow got the ball off the digs and digs ran like 10 yards for first down. That was just, that was incredible. And then the other thing that I took away from the Patriot side of things is Ram Andre Stevenson is a liability when he's in the game. And yet VR role. Has the most trust that I've ever seen in someone who just coughs up the ball at the rate that Ram Andre Stevenson has coughed it up. It's in, it's incredible.
Pershin:I'm honestly shocked at how much he likes Roman. Still got Touchdown Stevenson. I mean, they drafted, they drafted Trayvon Henderson early in the second, in the right second round. So it's like, it's like this, this guy, they've gotten a, a real investment in, he looked great in the preseason, and you got a situation where Rey gets benched because he just keeps fumbling the ball. Right? And they put in Antonio Gibson. Antonio Gibson gets hurt. And instead of turning to the promising rookie, they turn back to re So it's, it's like. I'm not sure if there's a problem with Trayvon. They don't trust him for, for whatever reason or if he just really loves Madre that much. But I think it's crazy. You gotta give Trayvon more run. You've, you've gotta give him a chance to prove what he's doing, to prove what he can do. I guess. I, I just don't understand that,
Jason:dude. It makes no sense. It makes no sense. As someone who has Stevenson on their roster, I was shocked to see that he still had two touchdowns in this game with like his, I think he has 10 fumbles on the season. Six of them he's lost or something like that. Some crazy amount.
Pershin:Yeah. 10 10 fumbles in the last 20 games.
Jason:Okay. Yeah. Still that's not good. That's a 50% fumble rate.
Pershin:Which, yeah, I mean that, that's normally the kind of clip that has you benched sometimes it just has you. You know, in free agency, like no one's, no one lost. Still, this
Jason:game was drunk. This game was drunk. It first quarter, it was three to zero. There were three fumbles in the first half. It ended six to three at halftime, and then the second half it just, it just popped off, man. It just, it, it, it was a Drake may, I mean, what Drake May and digs just took over this game. And it's not that the bills even looked bad, it's just that they turn the ball over. If they don't turn the ball over, they win the game. You know, it's, you know, close game probably. But that's what, that's what, you know, this Patriots defense is, is a VR bull defense. And it's showing very soon in his tenure there what are, what are you, you know, and then another game won by a field goal, like at the end, kickers.
Pershin:Yeah, that, I just love the, the sort of parallels in this game. It was like this sort of up and coming quarterback who plays a little bit like Josh Allen already. He's, he's bigger body. He likes to run, he'll get physical. He, he loves to throw down the field. I think that it wouldn't shock anyone a couple seasons from now if he had the development that Josh Allen had. And so you've got Stefan Diggs who had his best years with Josh Allen. Now he's butt hurt because he feels like, you know, the bills didn't want him around. Yeah, Josh Allen apparently made some kind of comment about how it's easier sometimes when you don't feel like you have to get one guy the ball so much, which I don't think was really a dig at digs so much as that's just. That's just true if, if the coaches or the front office or whoever it is, is putting pressure on you to make sure that you're targeting someone a lot. That could be annoying for a quarterback. Right? So, but at any rate you could tell that this meant a lot to digs. He said it outright in public and there was so much enthusiasm and passion. When he's in the game, he's making big plays and then on the sideline, like, like you already alluded to, just being super positive and trying to make sure that everyone's on their shit so he could beat his former team. And I think that's great. I love any player that's enthusiastic, passionate, motivated, but it's like, damn, really Stefan, this, this is what it takes for you to be just positive and not Yeah. Right. Not like me, me, me, me, me. It's still about me. It's, I know, right? It's like, it is like this is what, if it wasn't the bills, it'd be fine. Teammate is like. Revenge. Yeah. You know what I mean? It's like, it is like, it is like, I'm, I'm happy for them. They played so well, especially Diggs, who's been, you know, kind of getting eased back into a full-time role. Not even, not even a full year yet since he had that a c out there looked like, yeah. Looked good. Pete Diggs. I love it. I love it. But you know, I, I still think it might literally have been better for the Bills offense as a whole to do without Diggs and the cost. Oh, certainly, certainly. Yeah. Focus on, on him or whatever. Great game though. I did go back and watch most of this game and I thought it was great. It's
Jason:a good game. Another good game. Broncos versus Eagles. Your boys can, in the Eagles, a loss. Tale. What I took from this game was a tale of two halves. You know, it was ten three at the half. Yeah. You know, the Broncos kind of looked like they were, were gonna shit. The bet on this one. Eagles came out, went up 16 to three. What, what did you think about like at, when it was 16 to three? Were you just like, this game's over?
Pershin:Yeah. Yeah. Well, this was the only other game that I went back and looked at most of it. And the crazy thing is, is like the Eagles actually had, should have had this wrapped up and the Broncos did almost nothing for three quarters. And then everything came at the end of the game. And the reason why they had so many chances in the final quarter was really just because the Eagles kept throwing it and. I think this could be a situation where AJ Brown was such a squeaky will that the, that Sirianni actually said, okay, we're not gonna let off the pedal. We're just going to keep throwing it when they could have just ran the clock out. And I thought it was, I thought it was amazing as a Broncos fan that we had the chance to, to get back in the game with like three, like extra, what felt like extra possessions toward the end of the game. But, yeah, it was, it was a game that the Broncos really didn't play their their best, but then at the end of the game, Cortland Sutton just kept beating. Yeah. Quin and Mitchell in, in one-on-ones, which is not an easy thing to do. Quin and Mitchell's been playing great this season. So I think that that was really the story of the comeback was they kept allowing quinone Mitchell to just work on an island which a lot of times is fine because Quinone Mitchell's great, but Cortland Sutton really just stepped up and just kept beating him. The, just the, the one-on-one man matchup. And you know probably a great decision by by Bo Nicks to put the ball in the air and see if. Court one second can make plays down the field. It's the only way they could have gotten the game, and it ended up working out. So I'm happy about it, but I gotta tell you, it, it felt like a shaky performance from a full game perspective. Like a little bit concerning. Like they, they definitely had us completely like walking in mud, right? Oh yeah. For most of that game, for sure. From an offensive perspective. So
Jason:for sure it does. That's why I said tale of two halves, because, well, really it was the tale of one quarter versus three quarters. They, I mean, they even had a Persian two point conversion in there. And
Pershin:oh, I love it. I love it. Get the kickers
Jason:outta the fucking game, bro. I'm telling you, man. Madden this Madden is the toughest to kick my, I traded my kicker. Did you see that? I traded my kicker for another kicker.
Pershin:I, that's hilarious. I love it. He was so bad. He was so bad. The, the only,
Jason:he was so bad.
Pershin:The only kicker that the NFL ever needs is urban Byer. Oh my God. That's how I'm gonna put it.
Jason:You know what else was in this game? Devonta Smith finally, you know, had a game worth, worth of shit. He had, he had a lot of he good catches, you know? Was it over a hundred yards, 10 targets? Whew. AJ Brown can't be happy about that.
Pershin:Yeah, well, to be quite honest with you, so far, and it's still kind of early in the season, Devonta Smith literally looks like the better receiver then.
Jason:Good. Throw him the ball. I got games to win.
Pershin:They might start doing that, man. Honestly, I think, I don't think it's, it's crazy to think that AJ Brown might really just want off the team and before the trade deadline, he actually gets traded away. If that happens, man. Fucking rocket ship. Hope that happens for Father Smith.'cause he's looking, he's looking like he's, he's absolutely in the prime of his career right now. I hope that happens. Yeah.
Jason:Alright let's, let's set up the Titans and Cardinals once again. As we had mentioned earlier, the Cardinals lose in the final play of the game. It's like they just cannot close the game out. That's three in a row. They got bad juju going on in Arizona, man. Again, again, I, another week, another goal line fumble because we didn't finish the play. I'm not even de Marcado. I mean, come on man. Just go into the end zone. Like, why are you dropping the ball at the goal line? So. That was, that, that could've won the game for them. But no, they lost the game because of that. Because that was like a 75 yard run or something like that. Yeah, it was a big time run.
Pershin:Yeah. I didn't, I didn't, I didn't see most of this one, but I did see that Michael Carter ended up getting the majority of the, the opportunities at running back. Yeah, I think they did put Trey Benson on ir Yes. If I remember correctly. Which means if Michael Carter's still available in your leagues. He's a, he's a really good pickup right now. That's
Jason:very true. Very true. You know, Mar Marvin Harrison Jr. Seems to have snapped back. He, he seems to be, to not have the yips anymore. He had a, he had another great game. 98 yards on four targets, I mean, on five targets, four catches. So that's certainly awesome for Marvin Harrison, junior fantasy owners like myself. You know, Kyler Merley, he's playing good. And that's what's crazy to me is like the Cardinals are playing good ball. They're just not finishing. I mean, the titans are, were not good Cam Ward, dude. I don't like the way he throws the ball, man. He throws it really, his throwing mechanism is super weird to me. He doesn't look good. He just looks like he's just like, like just kind of sling, like all arm, like he's just slinging it, you know?
Pershin:Yeah, him, it, this was, this was something that, this was something that some of the sort of scouts were kind of bringing up, that like, he's probably gonna have to clean up the mechanics in the NFL to be successful or to be consistent that. Is not necessarily a rule because you know, you see guys like Mahomes who is pretty consistent with awkward looking throws all the time. But even though I didn't see this game, I, I have seen enough of cam ward to, to, you could tell that he's not comfortable. No, he's not comfortable yet. Hopefully he can get that sort of comfort, that sort of confidence. As far as like what I saw from like the box score, it looks like Calvin Ridley actually did get, he went off, he went off some actual catches. I he's gotten a lot of sort of empty targets so far this year. So it's good to see that they actually have a connection there that they were actually
Jason:able to. Yeah, I hope that, I hope that connection continues, man. Need that to happen. Need that to happen. Dude, this, this, this is, you know, I think the Cardinals defense is suspect, man. I mean, to let this team get back into this game to Calvin Ridley's only good game of the season so far as on the Cardinals, I'm, I'm really questioning the defense there, but nonetheless, the ending was insane. Interception Cardinals had an interception. The, the defensive guy fumbles it on the five yard line or something in the red zone, and the Titans pick it back up and kick a field goal to win the game.
Pershin:Wow. Yeah. Damn. Between marcado fumbling on the goal line and then that like, dude, they
Jason:got bad juju.
Pershin:That's that's rough. That's rough. That's what, yeah, that's what I'm
Jason:saying. It's, it is insane. Yeah. So. And, you know, we will see, we will see if the Cardinals can turn it around, but man, it is like they're the best. What, what's their record? They are,
Pershin:I think they're two and three.
Jason:They're the best two and three team in the league, if that means anything
Pershin:entirely possible.
Jason:All right. Move it over to the Bucks versus Seahawks. I, I have a confession I need to make on this. I'm a Bucks hater. I'm a Baker Mayfield hater. I don't know why. I don't know. Why don't I hate it that they were winning? I, I cannot stand it. Why
Pershin:do you just hate this tacky ass commercials? He did. I didn't mind it
Jason:when he was with the Browns'cause they sucked. But man, none. Nonetheless. This, this game started out all bucks. 13 to seven at the half, you know, it, it, it just, the bucks kinda gave, gave one away there at the end of the first half and then Seahawks got the ball back in the second half. Took advantage of the middle quarter as I would call it. Scored going into half. Yeah. Scored coming outta half. There were, there were at least at 1.5 consecutive touchdowns in the second quarter, I think. Yeah, yeah. Between the second quarter and the third quarter.
Pershin:Probably a,
Jason:yeah,
Pershin:probably a fun game to watch. You got fancy there, dude. There was
Jason:absolutely zero defense being played in the third quarter. N none, none whatsoever. It was, and this is wild for me to say this, this was a Baker Mayfield versus Sam darn duel.
Pershin:That's wild to think of. Right. I it's, you know, this is kind of a side conversation, so I'll keep it, I'll keep it brief, but I do think that literally we have to start like rethinking like quarterback development over the years and like the sort of old thing where it's like if they show you who they are in the first couple years, you should just believe it and, and quit trying to make it a thing. I think that we've, we're seeing so many late career breakouts mm-hmm. At the QB position lately that I, I'm thinking that maybe the complexity of the offensive schemes or maybe just the, the, how good defenses have gotten at disguising what they're doing. There's something about this day and age that's, I think the, the development curve is even longer than it's ever been. And it's, it's, it's weird because it's at a time where other positions are actually coming into the league with, with better skill sets and, and more refined hitting the ground running it better than they ever have before. I think it's the opposite that we're seeing from quarterbacks though. Yeah. Honestly, I think we might, we might need to rethink how quickly we give up on some of these guys.
Jason:Yeah, a hundred percent. I mean, look at Mac Jones thriving over there in San Francisco.
Pershin:Yeah. I mean, Gino Smith, man, the, the guy was like 29 before he was good. He's
Jason:still not good though. Still not good.
Pershin:The, the stats weren't good. I didn't see any of the plays. The game was visible.
Jason:Last thing anyway, last, keeping on this game. Last on this game. Abeka Buka, it is, I mean, he's here, man. He has arrived 163 yards, seven targets, seven receptions, one touchdown. I mean, basic stat line. What more can you say?
Pershin:I, I didn't see, I didn't see a single play from this game, but when I saw that, I was just like, that is not that is not just luck or anything right there. I'm like, this guy is a rookie who has really hit the ground running. And I, you know, I, I'm just thinking like of all the rookies that came out this year, like if, if we're redrafting. Maybe I just take him as ahead of genty. God, yes. Maybe I just take, you know what I mean? Like, maybe, maybe, maybe a book is just, he literally, he better than Genty. Dude, I have gen best rookie to have.
Jason:Genty has not been number one pick worthy. Yeah, it's been Right. That's the league. I'm one in four in is, my first selection was Genty. So but yeah. And, but what's surprising is this case also ended in a late field goal, you know? So,
Pershin:yeah. Not surprised at all. I, I was just gonna add real quickly. We are seeing, even though we saw a breakout from JSN last year, we're seeing like a whole nother level. Yeah.
Jason:He had a great game. Like he's
Pershin:breaking out again. Like he. And he's never played so much on the outside. Like he's, he's usually been like a slot merchant. And not only is he playing on the outside and actually doing some things every now and then he's playing better than he's ever played on the outside. I mean, you could move this guy all over the formation, do whatever you want with him. I mean, he's absolutely a stud. He, he should be considered like an elite wide receiver at this point.
Jason:A hundred percent. Last game we'll talk about is the surprising Jaguars upset of the Chiefs on Monday Night Football. Man, this was a, this was a hell of a game, man. This was something I def, I definitely thought this game was over when it was 14. Zip Mahomes and Company, you know, Trevor Lawrence and them turned the ball over. Mahomes gets it scores immediately, you know, I was like, oh, this is, this is gonna be a snooze fest. And you know, the, the one thing that I did think, the, the Chief's got a little bit of help in this game, and I know in front of the pod D rack is gonna hate that I said that, but there was a Trevor Lawrence turnover at the goal line that when you look at the replay, the ball clearly to me in his hands has, has touched the white line has crossed over the beginning of the white line, and they ruled that a fumble. So they, they took away a touchdown there. And then there was a defensive pass interference on a, on a Trevor Lawrence interception in his own red zone. That they didn't call and they gave the chiefs the ball in the red zone. So it was just, it was, it was a controversial game, some so to speak, but what was really still, even though, even though still the chiefs got 13 penalties for 109 yards that, that's just, that's just crazy to me. That's, I've never seen an undisciplined team like that. So a reality is I think the Jaguars actually should have, should have waxed the chiefs. When you, when you, when you list, look at everything that I listed and, you know, two touchdowns come off the board, in my opinion from Jacksonville gave the chiefs two touchdowns. You're really looking at a 14 point 28 point differential. So. It's interesting.
Pershin:Yeah. It, it did feel, this was when I was listening to, on the radio last night, and it did feel like Jacksonville was making the more impactful plays. It, you know, it sounded like that maybe Mahomes made a, a really bad interception. That was what they were, I guess, about to score a touchdown, it sounded like. And, and he threw, threw a pretty bad interception, 6 99
Jason:yards to Devin Lloyd.
Pershin:So that is uncharacteristic and you know, you know, they, they lost because they didn't play well enough, you know, so
Jason:Well, I mean, and it was just like a, Patrick Mahomes had to, to, to run, run Fest. I mean, he threw the ball 41 times and he also led the team in rushing for Six carries 60 yards and,
Pershin:yeah, it, and the crazy thing is, is he already came into this week leading the team in rushing, and then he did it again for, so it's like, bro, they need, they need to get something going on that with in that run game. Well,
Jason:yeah, yeah. Well, and I just don't, I mean, I don't know what to think, man, because now Xavier worthy c do you think he's injured more now?
Pershin:It, you gotta think so. Right. At the very least, they're gonna be much less likely to, to put him out there with that, that contraption. Right. Honest tie. Well, especially
Jason:with the emergence of Taquan Thornton popping off three, three receptions, 90 yards, five targets. And then you get Rashiv Rice coming back soon, you know, what is it like next week, week after.
Pershin:Yeah, I think, okay. Two weeks from now is when he, he was expected maybe next week, but I think that would be a little quick. But but yeah, about Taek Kwon Thornton the guy's got some real speed. I, I love what I've seen outta him. I didn't see the plays in the, this week's games, but the guy is super fast. I think that they have him running like those Justin Watson type routes, except for, instead of solely being a, a defense stretcher, they actually take shots on him more than what they did with Watson. And I think that's kind of exciting. I think that you know, it's this sort of player that's better, like in a best ball format and when, when you don't have to try to predict when the big plays are coming, but someone's still worth keeping your eye on, especially if, if Worthy's gonna be missing more time. We just don't know yet. But, certainly a speed, sir, that can fill that role.
Jason:Yeah. Yep. All right. That's all the games we got for this week. Any, any final thoughts you had on the week?
Pershin:You know, just, just looking through the, the stats in that. I just think it, it's, it's pretty interesting to me how the run outs been for a lot of these rookies. There's been a lot of impact from these later round guys like Croskey Merrit, and Woody Marks and all these guys. And there's actually been I would say disappointing fantasy performances from a lot of the guys that went early in the draft Luther Burden apparently can't even get on the field. And, you know, just a lot of these guys are, are, I think there might be an opportunity to buy low on some of those guys is, I guess is what I'm saying, because they've been disappointing so far and a lot of the owners are not necessarily gonna be that patient with it. And you might be able to trade for some of these guys and they'll have like a second half late season breakout like we've seen with a lot of rookies throughout history.
Jason:Yeah. Dude, I'm a Luther Bird owner who's not happy right now. I thought, I thought, well, there you go, Ben Johnson coming over, like Caleb Williams gonna just be tossing the rock and he is to Roma Dunay. Yeah,
Pershin:and I mean, they, they got a Lae zia's playing over Luther Burton and I just don't, I just don't understand that. Don't get it. Don't get it. Yeah, I, I will say specifically when it comes to Luther Burton. They did have their bye week this past week though, and sometimes you see like a post by rookie bump. So hopefully we see a few more snaps for Luther Burton and Coastal Loveland. But, you know, I don't know. We gotta wait and see.
Jason:Yeah, well we certainly do. Well, speaking of wait and see, next week is coming upon us and the games I'm looking forward to next week. Got quite a few. Got a good week coming up. Bengals versus Packers. One of the reasons is because if the Packers lose this game, this could be the first time in history. Joe Flacco, a quarterback has beaten a team twice in the same season, like from different teams. So
Pershin:I like it. I'll be rooting for it. Yeah.
Jason:I, I really need the Browns to lose, to like win another game. So the Packers aren't the only one that they beat the whole season. That'll be just really annoying. And then we got a Cardinals versus the Colts, Ken, Daniel, Brian, Mack Jones. Keep the magic going or will the cards finally learn how to finish. What do you think about, think about that game, man. That should be interesting.
Pershin:I, I like the Colts man. I think the Colts are low key. Just like a really good team. Yeah. Yeah. They are. They, they are really, they are really well-rounded right now. The, the defense is playing better than I expected, I think better than most people expected. And then Daniel Jones better than most expected. I mean, the, the offensive line has basically come back to the level they were like two seasons ago, where, where they're just opening up. Tons of holes and they're getting a really good push for a really, a bigger back that's really strong. Like Jonathan Taylor, you give him an extra couple yards of acceleration and he's hard to bring down. And I think when you mix that, that sort of like really dependable run game with the, the, the receiving weapons they got makes things easier for a guy like Daniel McBrien. And to his credit, he's making the most of it. So I think that they're actually a pretty well-rounded team right now. And I think they got more going for them than the Cardinals. I, I like them to beat the spread here.
Jason:Yeah. Yeah. I, I mean it'll be interesting. And then Jaguars versus Seahawks, you know, with the Jacksonville being four and one Seahawks kind of hanging around there at three and two. See, see what Sam darn
Pershin:two sparky ass teams here Spark is there. Yeah. Two teams with, with new head coaches and, and frankly seemed to have a renewed sort of enthusiasm and passion coming from their players. Hey, I forgot to
Jason:mention in the Jaguars that that run, Trevor Lawrence gets tripped up and then somehow was able to get up from sacking himself to running in for a touchdown. Like,
Pershin:yeah, I, I do remember them describing that on the radio. I, I haven't seen it, but I some weird, some weird plays they were describing over, over the radio for sure. I was like, wait, what? That was
Jason:weird. Oh man. And then Rams versus Ravens, man, the Ravens are in, they're spiraling dude. They're spiraling hard. They're tied with the Browns at one in four. You know, the Rams aren't gonna be easy. Yeah.
Pershin:If, if the Cardinals, if the Cardinals are the best two and three teams, the Ravens are definitely the best one and four teams for
Jason:sure.
Pershin:There's no doubt.
Jason:Oh man, man, go ahead.
Pershin:I think that, I was just gonna say real quick, I, I think that Lamar said that he could, he could probably come back ahead of schedule if he had to. I, I bet you he comes back before he's ready and he plays through his injury because Cooper Rush looks so bad that at one in four, I think they're already in desperation mode. And I think they're like, okay, fuck, the season is over. Just play, just play through the injury. The season is over. I it, it probably is. Don't hurt yourself anymore. Go get the surgery.
Jason:Call it a done, done deal because what is the best that you could do? Sure. You could win a Super Bowl with your bum with a bum. Body part. Right. I guess maybe doubtful. So it's like you're gonna, like, you're gonna, he's, they would have to win, like almost win out pretty much at this point.
Pershin:Yeah. And, and I mean in, in a, in a division with Tom, yeah. When you got Aaron
Jason:Rogers in the Pittsburgh Steelers leading the division, the only winning record in the division.
Pershin:Wild. That's wild, isn't it? That's not how anyone thought this was going.
Jason:And in the next game I'm looking forward to is the 49 ERs versus the Buccaneers, you know, Buccaneers leading the Division four and 1 49 ERs leading the division at four And one, just a, just a heavyweight matchup. We're gonna have Maca Jones versus Baker Mayfield. I am never gonna get used to that.
Pershin:This man, this is gonna be an interesting game for sure. I wonder if the 49 ERs get any of their pieces back or if they just run it back with like at to Marcus Robinson. No. Getting nobody. Kendrick Bourne. I mean K Kendrick Bourne came off the street and got like 11 targets I think. I mean that's crazy. And the thing is Mac Jones was bawling bro. Bro Mac, he was putting them things right on the numbers. He was making like small window, really close throws and throwing with confidence and making it work. And I mean, okay, we'll see. We'll see how far they could take it. They're at four and one and they got no business being a four and one right now. That's how I feel.
Jason:And then the final game, lion's Chiefs Sunday night game. You know, chiefs staring at a two and four start. Yeah. With this game you know, the lions ain't messing around, so they're four and one. This is, this is in Kansas City. Man. This, this is gonna be a real test to see where the chiefs stack up amongst, amongst men.
Pershin:Yeah. I mean, I, I, I was feeling pretty shaky about the lions after your boys whooped them up week one, but since week one, they've looked at like exactly the same team Yeah. As they were last year. Agreed. The offense has been popping off at a crazy rate, and I just, I expect them to win this game. I, I know that, you know, Mahomes can pull shit out of his ass sometimes, and maybe he will, but. Man, I, I just cannot predict this chief's team to keep up with the, the sort of firepower that I expect the lines to be able to do on offense.
Jason:Yeah. Yeah. A hundred percent. Couldn't agree more. All right, well, la last thing before we close it on out just some through week, week five, is it, what's your thoughts on fantasy football? You know, how's it going?
Pershin:I ha I have a million of'em. I think probably the thing that I, I've been thinking about the past day or two was basically what I already hinted at with the rookies. Like it's been, it's been crazy how a lot of the, you know, the, the lesser valued rookies have ended up making a bigger impact than. The, the, the more valuable ones. And I do think that leaves an opportunity probably to kind of buy low on some of these talented guys. But you know, the, the thing, this isn't really a fantasy take, but the thing that I feel like has defined the season in as a whole so far has been like crazy special teams. Yeah. Like special teams just deciding a
Jason:huge portion. I mean, two packers games are special teams.
Pershin:Oh yeah. Yeah. And I mean, just week after week, maybe not as much this past week, because honestly I didn't see, I didn't see every game was as many plays as this question before. Every game we talked
Jason:about was decided by specialty. Oops.
Pershin:Yeah, and it, I, I feel like that has been the thing that has defined the NFL this year. It is just special teams matter way more than they did last year it feels like. And I think that's probably inherently harder to predict. So I think a lot of the sort of like underdogs and unpredictable sort of bets have been the better bets to make so far. And I think it's been fun. I've gotten lucky with a lot of the teams I've drafted, so I, I'm, I'm happy with that, but I'll be the first to tell you, it has felt like luck. It really has felt like luck this year.
Jason:Yeah, man, my fantasy season has been pretty abysmal. Like I said, I'm actually one in nine in our league. Now what you add in this past week, so,
Pershin:whew.
Jason:Yeah, rough. I beat 1 95 to 1 27. I don't think I've scored over one 50 in that league and everybody's pretty much hitting 200. Like my team is just shit. The bed man. Just, just terrible everybody.
Pershin:You might, you might wanna go ahead and start gunning for that 1 0 1. Well that's what I was
Jason:gonna say is I am, I've got quite the claims on the waiver wire looking to pick up, looking to pick up,'cause Omar and Hampton's out, you know, gonna hit, hit up the Chargers running backs, you know then. Oh yeah. May take a stab at, at a wide receiver in Cleveland for just a'cause he is young. Just, just put him on the roster. You know, switching out kickers, things of that nature. So hitting it hard, man, trying to find a diamond in the rough. Yeah. So yeah. Can't wait for next season so I can get my rookie draft on again.
Pershin:Yeah, yeah, for sure. That I, honestly, that's what I'd be doing if, if I started out one in nine, I'd just say fuck it. I'm just gonna try to turn as many of these players into picks as I can. Tank for arch. Yeah. Maybe.
Jason:Anyway. Alright man, well, here goes to that one league and hope that I win it all. And with that being said, as always, I will be posting my weekly you know, prospects from prize picks, underdog, where have you. And you could check out any of our favorite places@signupexpert.com, pine Pony, and hit us up on threads, all the socials. Pine Pony Podcast 22. And that's it. That's all we got. Until next week, adios.
Pershin:Adio.
