Welcome, welcome to another edition of the Pine Pony podcast. Got me the OG, hanging out with my buddy Persian. What's happening, man?
Pershin:Howdy, howdy. Glad to be back. Absolutely missed chatting ball with you over the past week where I have just been going to work and going to bed like some nor normal, basic human being. And it's, uh, it's just, you know, kind of boring sometimes when you're not talking ball with your friends. So
Jason:yeah, here
Pershin:we go.
Jason:Yeah, well, you know, um, once all smooth and I was not gonna be here talking ball with you, my friend. You know? Yeah. Me and Smith had a quite the ride on one of our excursions here in Costa Rica. Um,
Pershin:so, so he said it was a big wave. Right. And it just toppled the, the whole boat or
Jason:Yeah. Yeah. The boat got flipped over from a big old wave, man. It was wild. Definitely thought I was a gunner.
Pershin:Yeah. So was the situation that you were struggling to get to the top, or was the situation that you, you were under the boat and so you had to, to swim all the way to the side of the boat to get up? Is that what it was?
Jason:Uh, not only was I under the boat when I climb, when I climbed out from underneath the boat, there were three, six foot to seven foot waves crashing down on top of my head. Oh
Pershin:God.
Jason:Just waiting for it. So it was like, yeah. It was like the moment I could catch a breath, another wave was crashing on top of me and this is out in the middle of a river mouth meeting the ocean. So it's not like you can stand, you know? So that was wild. Wow. But yeah, on,
Pershin:on, on behalf of the pod and the greater, uh, pine pony populace, we are very glad that both yourself and friend of the pod Smith made it out alive.
Jason:Yeah, yeah, man. Let's just say we are, we are both very glad. We thought we lost everything too. Passports, all kinds of stuff, and they ended up finding it all. Cell phone, passports, everything.
Pershin:Wow.
Jason:Yeah. Water bottles. Okay. Yeah. Wow. So it was, it was intense, man. It was intense. I can't wait to maybe see you and go in more detail than we have time for on the show of what actually happened. Um, yeah. And show pictures.'cause it's kind of funny. I do have a little timeline and we made the, uh, the local news. We made the local news.
Pershin:Oh, wow.
Jason:Yeah. So celebrity over here. Yeah, that's right. Costa Rican celebrities. With that being said, let's start the show, man. Let's officially do it. All right. So we had a wild week in sports. Um, Charlotte Epstein got knocked out of the MLS playoffs and we got our asses kicked. We lost three to one sucks in the final game. Uh, had a lot of hope and then it just, we let up an easy goal after we bombarded the keeper for a solid 30 minutes. Like we should have scored probably two goals. We did not. So that was our big bugaboo, was scoring and finishing in the offensive third, this entire series, and that's what got us. So, you know, Charlotte, yeah. Still a positive, well.
Pershin:Nice to hear that they, uh, they actually were putting up a good fight there and could have easily have, have actually won the game. Right. I, I didn't see the game myself. I did see that they had lost that game, the final game that, you know, they went down three to one and I was like, oh, I'm sure STR was disappointed with that, but at least they did get a lot of shots on goal and, you know, they were actually putting up a good showing.
Jason:Yeah. Hey, fourth, Steve improvement. Okay. Improvement. Last year we weren't as high. This year we are as high. So next season is win first round, you know. That's right. Um, so yeah, so the, so the, so the games that we got going into, I guess this would be quarterfinals, we've got Philadelphia Union versus NYC, ffc with their p uh, field. We got Cincinnati versus Miami. I don't know ma'am. I think Miami's probably gonna win that, but I don't know much about cin. And then we got, uh, San Diego versus Minnesota on the west. I like San Diego here, man. They just got that first year power and then, uh, Vancouver versus LAF ski as well, so, you know, seems to be good. Matchup games kick off on the 22nd, like take some time off of four your rounds. Why don't you? Yeah, God, if you were hoping for MLS actions team, we're gonna have to wait two weeks for our next game.
Pershin:Oh, I'm telling you, man.
Jason:Oh boy.
Pershin:This is like a summer break, man. These, these people live like teachers over here.
Jason:Oh yeah. Yep. They sure do. Alright, so that's the MLS Welcome to the MLS update. Moving over to college football. Man, what a, what a weekend we had, um, Indiana. Did you see this game, Indiana versus spends it?
Pershin:I did not.
Jason:Holy cow. Toledo Batman.
Pershin:I heard some of the reaction, uh, from various people calling into the radio being like, woo, how about that pants? They woo was like,
Jason:yeah, well, the toe tap for Indiana, Omar Cooper Juniors or, or Omar Cooper Juniors. I mean, this has gotta be one of the best toe taps that I've ever seen in my life and I. I just, so the, the quarterback throws the ball to the back of the end zone. Not only does the receiver catch it, he then you can visibly see his head turn and look at his feet and I mean, oh wow. He gets in, he gets in at the smallest of margins, man. And you know, you gotta give it up to the referee too, because you could see his head, see the catch, and then him looked down at the feet and it, he called it a touchdown on the field. And upon review there was indeed green in between the out of bounds and the feet. It was nice. It was absolutely incredible.
Pershin:I love when there's tough calls and the refs just nail it like first
Jason:time.
Pershin:Yeah. You know what I mean? Right off the rip, they just like, boom, I got it. Like, good job.
Jason:So that was, that was pretty awesome. Um, and then, uh, hey, Clemson beat FSU pretty handily too. Look at that. So, yeah. Nice. So yeah, that's, that's, Hey, that's a win. You know, Dabo threatened to quit if they lost that game, and he doesn't have to do that. Now.
Pershin:I, I'm just gonna leave it at all. Right. Si a, a sign of life. A positive indicator. Let's just leave it at that. I'm the, the Dabo stuff is, is, come on, man.
Jason:I mean, he said that if they lose that game, we should fire him, because, I don't know. I don't think he's a baby. Say today
Pershin:he is a big
Jason:baby. Take my ball and go home. All right. Um, so yeah. And then Texas a m beat the snot out of Missouri, not too crazy. Bama beat LSU, that's not wild. But what I will say about Bama is it is pretty incredible how they've managed to stay on top minus, uh, you know, Nick Saban. So, you know, there is something to that, that maybe Davo should, um, look into. And it's called the Transfer Portal. Just say, um, Georgia Beat, Mississippi State. Hey Ole Miss beat Citadel, 49 to zero. I mean, Citadel really put up a put up a, a shot, you know what I mean?
Pershin:Yeah.
Jason:Uh, a Texas Tech upset BYU 29 to seven. That was a eight versus seven feet. Uh, Oregon Escape escaped Iowa 18 to 16.
Pershin:Ooh, look at Iowa.
Jason:Yeah. Iowa doing Iowa thing. That,
Pershin:that, that would've been pretty, pretty juicy.
Jason:Yeah. That would've. Instead, what we get is Wake Forest, uh, upset number 14, ranked Virginia. It made that, I'm telling you, man, Hey, hey, and then get this, the demon, deacons, yeah. And get this. Then California upset at the number 15, Louisville. I'm telling you, man, that A CC
Pershin:wow.
Jason:A C that daunting. A CC. Louis
Pershin:Louisville, after having some pretty impressive wins themselves get knocked off.
Jason:Yeah.
Pershin:Wow.
Jason:Yeah. I'm telling you the A CC is just beating up on each other and should start getting the benefit of the doubt.
Pershin:Yeah. They're making each other look worse.
Jason:Yeah.
Pershin:Nobody's getting a good record outta here.
Jason:Well, that's what everybody else says about the SGC teams. When they beat each other, they're like, oh man, this this conference. Oh, you gotta graded on a
Pershin:curve.'cause they're all the best ones. Yeah.
Jason:Yeah. They're all, they're all, they're all great. If they were in any other conference, they'd be winning it. It's like, yeah. Okay. They, they just, they're always gonna get the benefit of doubt. And then the final game, Wisconsin, upset number 23, Washington 13 to 10. I don't know if you call that upset again'cause they're bottom of the barrel teams, but you know, I mean, one team was ranked and one wasn't, you know, just, just relaying the messages here. Um, next week, games that I'm looking forward to, Clemson versus Louisville. Uh, this is a shot for Clemson to get back at 500. Hey. Yeah, Louisville just lost, uh, the, a bad one. They're wounded. They're wounded. Yeah, they're real. This is a chance. I mean, we could effectively knock them out of a CC title hooks if we beat them, so that'll be fun. Um, Notre Dame's playing Pittsburgh. They're both seven and two. Um, Oklahoma's playing Alabama. Those are, those are top, top ranked teams. Head headed at it. Let's see, Oklahoma's 11, bam was four. And then, uh, NC State versus Miami could, another game that could end Miami's a CC title. Dreams. And then, uh, the big game I think everyone's gonna be looking forward to is Florida and Ole Miss. Wait. I mean, Texas and Georgia. No one's looking forward to Florida. Just kidding. Texas and Georgia. See what happens. Georgia's a five point dog. What do you think, man? You think Arch Man is gonna, so when
Pershin:I was just, I was just about to say, what is, what is Georgia ranked right now?
Jason:Five. Texas is 10.
Pershin:Yeah. See the, I think this is a pretty interesting game here.'cause like if, if Georgia comes out and they look like really good, they get a strong win here, then they're probably a, a number one seed in the playoff provided they went out.
Jason:Right.
Pershin:And, uh, and like this, this could be a really bad win. Um, or this could be a really bad loss though. Um,
Jason:so,
Pershin:well this is definitely
Jason:an issue. Well, I don't, I don't. I think everybody is playing for the number two seat. I don't foresee Ohio State giving as much as that pains me to say, God, I hate Ohio State. Why are they just always in the top? I hate'em. But yeah, I don't see them losing, I mean, they play UCLA Rutgers in Michigan. Like Michigan's the only team capable of beating them, and I have zero faith in the coaching staff and the players at Michigan. Yeah. So, yeah, you know, Ohio State gets to walk into the championships again at that vaunted Big 10 schedule they got. It's so, so difficult. I mean, so much more hard. So much harder than the a c. C. Alright, well that's all I, that's all I got for, you know, college football's a lot less exciting when your team is not in, not even in the chance to make the playoffs. Like has like your what? Yeah, the best hope is Poptart Ball. So it's at least entertaining. Yeah.
Pershin:Tell me about it, man. I'm a Buffalos fan over here, man.
Jason:Well, you could change, you could have change teams a long time ago. They'll never have a shot. People
Pershin:have people like, man, you, you've never talked about anything other than NFL. Why aren't you in a college like I used to be. Okay. I used to be.
Jason:Yep. That's what happens. Even with Dion, you know, he's kind of missing some players, man. He's, this, this team's not very good this season.
Pershin:I mean, my problem with Dionne is that I like, I, I only like DI only like Dion. Insofar as that, like, oh, well maybe a bunch of like good recruits will come because it's Dionne. I, I don't actually like Dionne. Like, I don't like, like it's, it's not a great thing unless it's gonna be a great thing. You know what I mean? Right. It's like I, I'm, I'm down to laugh at the circus and just tolerate his annoyingness. If he's gonna just get a whole bunch of great transfers and recruits and shit, okay, fine, because we're, we'll, we'll be a good team, uh, no matter what. But if he's not doing that and all these kids are leaving because apparently toxic culture and all kinds of drama, toxic culture scenes way not
Jason:behind
Pershin:Dion. And so if, if there's just as many kids trying to get the fuck out of there as there are coming there anyway, then it's like, I don't like Dion. This is, this is not helping me.
Jason:Well, don't worry, man. He's got the blood clots again, so I'm sure he'll, um. Good. He'll probably have a, have an unhealthy exit, if you will.
Pershin:He needs, he needs to cut off more body parts.
Jason:All jokes aside, I hoby, I hope he does get well, uh, what Stephanie said, man. Let's, let's move over to the NFL News and Notes, man. Hey, RIP Paul Tago Blue. Remember that guy? Yeah. N NFL Commission. He was the, he was the NFL Commissioner from eight nine to oh six.
Pershin:Yeah,
Jason:basically for a long
Pershin:time.
Jason:Basically at that point in time, he was the NFL Commissioner for all of my life, like throughout high school. Until,
I
Pershin:was gonna say
Jason:like,
Pershin:yeah, as basically as soon as I was old enough to understand what football was and follow it, he was there throughout my entire childhood and even, you know, young adulthood or whatever. So,
Jason:I'm gonna be honest with you, never knew who the guy was. Never all only commissioner I ever heard of, like, knew of like remembered was Goodell.
Pershin:I thought that Taglia Abu was pretty likable and I, I even bought into this idea that he was a really good guy and stuff. Unfortunately, as with most everyone in the NFLA bunch of leaked, uh, you know, messages and documents and stuff from the past, uh, about, you know, they did a bunch of shady stuff to protect the shield and, uh, so I, I kind. Ended up being frustrated with him because I bought into this idea that he was just a really great guy that just really wanted to change everyone's life for the positive. But of course, that wasn't really the case. He wanted to hide away any negative aspects of the game of football, uh, so that he could personally enrich himself. So, you know, rest in peace, uh, you know, sounds like
Jason:the American dream
Pershin:thoughts and prayers to his family. I don't hate him or anything like that, but unfortunately he's not the hero that everyone's gonna be propping him up to be because he just passed away.
Jason:That's right. You know who else is not the hero? Everyone's gonna be popping the mustard. Be
Pershin:Dick Chaney.
Jason:Donald Trump. Donald Trump, and you know where he was this weekend. Uh, at the Commander's game, right? That's right. He was at the commander's game and he read some ridiculous statement that I, like, I, I couldn't make sense of what he was even saying'cause it was all sounded like gibberish. Um, I don't
Pershin:think he read it properly
Jason:aimed on top of that. No, of course. That he doesn't. They were like, do
Pershin:you? They were like, do you wanna call a play with us? And then I, I think it was Chris Rodriguez runs the ball for like two, maybe three yards. This is a very boring nothing play. And he just goes, oh, wow, look at that. And I'm just like, bro, you, you've never watched football, have you? I'm like, this is,
Jason:oh my God.
Pershin:Did
Jason:you see them do the Donald Trump dance as the celebration?
Pershin:I did not see that actually.
Jason:Yeah. The guy, when you say they, you
Pershin:talking about the, the people in the, in the stands.
Jason:No, no, no, no, no. Um, the players, yeah. I can't remember who scored a touchdown. His, his name is escaping me for some reason. But anyway, he scored and he did the, you know, the, the hand movement side to side. What? Well, of course, you know, he's probably taken that as a compliment when we're all just laughing at him. Yeah. Oh gosh. Yeah. But anyway, uh, the only one thing I wanna say about this is like, dude, I don't want to hear someone from here on out, ever talk about leave politics out of my sports. Because if you're against Kaepernick and you love this type of shit, like you don't, you don't actually want politics, not in your sports. You just don't want certain politics not in your sports. Yeah. Yeah. So like, I just don't want to hear that shit. Because if we gotta suffer with this guy talking about putting his name on a stadium, which thank God they fought back and said that Donald Trump will not be part of our, our history like Jesus Christ. Um, and you know who, you know, this is a good segue into who else's history in the NFL and that's Brian DaBell.
Pershin:That's right.
Jason:Yes, that's right.
Pershin:I he
Jason:got fired. Were
Pershin:So were you shocked to see that they did not also let go of, uh, Joe Shane though? Like, I kind of thought they were gonna be a package, like they were going to get fired together. Um,
Jason:yeah. I mean, you think I was, I agree. I mean, I have it typed out right here. Brian Abel out. How does Joe Shin still have a job? I'm confused.
Pershin:That's what I thought.
Jason:That's, that's what I thought. He's the one who put these players on the field, so Yeah. Like, yeah, I guess maybe,
Pershin:I guess maybe Joe Shane is getting credit because, uh,
Jason:credit of what?
Pershin:Like, he's the one that draft's drafted Scab Boo, and he drafted Dart, and it looks like maybe dart's a hit. I mean, it's too early to say that, I think, but there's, at least he's shown at least some flashes, something promising that they could work with. And so maybe he feels like, oh, well, Joe Shane has actually done his part of the job. Although I, I think Abdu Carter, if we're being honest, has been a disappointment. But either way, I, I was surprised. I was still surprised. Even if you say, oh, scab Boot and DART were hits. I think that they were, they came into this thing like. Buddy Buddy on the same page. They, they had the same sort of game plan for the Giants together. And so either the game plan works or it doesn't. Uh, the owner has decided it doesn't, so Shane should go too. I would think our, you know, maybe Shane will go, I like at, after the season's over, but
Jason:I wonder if it has, um, more to do with this current game where the Giants were up with Dart in there and then once Dart got injured, they could not to keep the score. And so therefore he's probably like, well, day both they shit without Dart. Like we've just seen what a, what a, you know, we drafted a good qb We can, we've seen him make the plays, but now without him, our offense is, is terrible. I mean, it's worse.
Pershin:Yeah.
Jason:And so they were like, let's cut ties with him now.
Pershin:I think that that actually is a, a decent theory because this is, I think like the fifth or sixth game that they have lost while being up in the fourth quarter. And in particular, this is now the third time that they've been up by at least 10 points with just like three minutes left in the game. And the fact that you keep losing these games you should not be losing in the fourth quarter, I think is probably very frustrating for an owner to keep watching. So I could see him being like, man, this is the last straw. I'm not, I'm just not watching this anymore. And then when you, when you sort of combine that with the fact that it does seem to me and probably to the owner also, that it's like Dbol really does not mind putting Jackson Dart in harm's way. And it's like, okay, right. If this is the guy that's supposed to be our future, why do you keep calling plays where he's going to be? Uh, a runner, like at the goal line in these situations where it's like he's really likely to get hit. And then when you combine that with the fact that he's been evaluated, not necessarily held out, but he's been evaluated for a concussion four different times this season because he's, he's taken so many big hits. Geez. Um, you could, you could imagine being an owner and being like, okay, you're losing these games and on top of it, you're putting what's supposed to be our future quarterback, like in harm's way. And you, you kind of gotta think, I don't know that he's doing this, but you kind of gotta think that day's more trying to protect his own job than he is trying to protect the future quarterback. And if that's the case, then that would probably make the owner pretty angry and he'd be like, oh, fuck it. I'm firing you right now, you know, instead of waiting until the end of the season.
Jason:Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I agree with that. I agree with that Also, the like. Why are the Bears six and three? This is very disturbing as a Packers fan. And
Pershin:Yeah,
Jason:I was gonna say, I'm gonna live with it.
Pershin:I was gonna say, I feel like as a Packers fan, you've got to be pretty frustrated because they're in the same division and they keep winning games that I, it feels like they're getting outplayed and somehow, uh, and honestly mu much like the Broncos where it's like they keep losing these games, but then somehow at the very end, oh, you here, we just gifted you a win. It feels like the Chicago Bears keep getting gifted wins and, uh, it's gotta be frustrating when you're in, when you're in the same division as them and the, the fucking lines. So,
Jason:well, the Bears are about to meet their maker. I mean, they've got. At Minnesota Steelers, Eagles Packers, Browns Packers, Niners and Lions. So they're gonna, they're gonna, we're really gonna, they're gonna get into the meat of their schedule. Um, but I mean, you know, whatever they're playing good. I, they'll probably beat the Vikings Steelers will be close games and I will go and give them the Browns. But Eagles, Packers, Packers, Niners lines are not gonna be easy games to win. We probably split, we'll probably lose the game in Chicago.
Pershin:The crazy thing is, I think that they've been getting better on offense. Like, despite the fact that Kayla Williams still struggles in a lot of ways. Like, I think that Ben Johnson is actually kind of like making chicken salad out of some bullshit here. And, uh. When you actually look at Caleb Williams and like his second year, I, I honestly think it's been a disappointment. Uh, but Ben Johnson I think has just been pretty good at kind of hiding Caleb's weaknesses and really getting that run game going and then setting up some nice design passes around the fact that, you know, people are actually respecting the run game again. So, uh,
Jason:so goes to Ben Johnson where people respect the run game
Pershin:for sure.
Jason:Uh, yeah. So Bear Times fourth quarter, no Dart Giants Loose, um,
Pershin:boy,
Jason:but
Pershin:they got Jamis.
Jason:They do Jamus. Jamis Jamis is, is gonna be starting next week. It's gonna be great
Pershin:if, if he throws four. Uh, touchdowns to his own team instead of four touchdowns to the other team. They might be a decent, they might be decent. I
compare
Jason:four touchdowns to the other team.
Pershin:He might, I,
Jason:because the other
Pershin:team
Jason:screen day,
Pershin:Ja. Oh, okay. Yeah. Well then, hey, there you go.
Jason:We need regular old, regular ass Jamis Winston out there next week. Not, not win games.
Pershin:Jamis, man. I as a, as a fantasy fan, I'll take any excuse to get Jamis out there, man. You, you watch, watch how Darius fucking Slaton and Dale Robinson pop this week. Like they're gonna be usable guys, man.
Jason:Nah man. Green Bay's defense has been good, dude. It's been really good. Our offense is just trash. Um, we'll get to that in a second though, because we got another game we gotta talk about and. But before that, uh, Jalen Nailor spectacular catch in the fourth quarter with three minutes left. Another tow drag. Man, it was incredible. Just two tow drags this weekend. It was tow drag weekend. Just tow drags, man. But yeah, man, that was cool. Seems
Pershin:to be the only one that McCarthy's actually in sync with, which is weird.
Jason:Yeah, I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm so glad they lost the game though. Keep them at base. Somebody's gotta stay down there. Um, and then dude, they're gonna touch on, on this stink fest. That was Thursday night. That was the most Thursday. Thursday night is Thursday night game that I've ever seen. It was. Awful.
Pershin:It was awful. It was so bad. I love the Broncos, and I tell you, this was ugly. This was ugly. And like you guys, uh, anybody who's already heard me on this podcast before knows that I don't mind a defensive battle. I do not mind, uh, if it's a low scoring game. The problem I have is that if it's a low scoring game, because both teams just like take a dump on the field and then just kind of make little dump angels out of it instead of playing football the whole time. I mean, this was ridiculous. This was so many penalties from both teams. So many, so many bad plays, so many ridiculously like whiff balls from both Gino and Bo Nicks. And it's just like, what? What are we doing? You know, the, and the, the Broncos moved to eight and two with this win, but man, I, as much as I love the Broncos, I will be the first to say this is a fraudulent, like first place in the a FC. This is not like this. Fraud sucks, dude. This team, this team literally is like, I'm meh. Kind of average, but very inconsistent team. And it starts first and foremost with Bo Nicks. What is he doing? He doesn't even have to deal with a horrible offensive line. The offensive line is not the best in the league, but it's above average. And he's acting like, oh, I'm getting pressure every play. He's like, he's like really skittish. And he's just like, he's like jumping in the air and throwing a pass when there's nobody around him. He's getting no pressure. And he's just like, he's acting as if he has to throw on the run in the air. Like, bro, you've got to calm down. I, toward the end of last year, it looked like he calmed down and he, he stopped playing so nervous and so skittish for whatever reason, that's been back in full effect this year and. It, it's awful. You hate to see it because he came into this league already as an older rookie, someone who was supposed to be more ready, you know, and the fact that he's just kind of had a sophomore slump, and it's not that he doesn't have the talent or the capability, it's that he shook mentally. He's not comfortable back there. He's not sitting back and making the reads and throwing the ball. Mm-hmm. With confidence. He's acting as if he's about to get his clock cleaned every moment of the play, and he can't wait to get rid of that ball and do something. And it's just, bro, you got to calm down or else you'll never make it. You will not make it. I I, I would not be shocked if at some point he's benched for Jared's did. I would not be shocked. Oh. And I would not. And I not. Ah, he's playing like, he's playing like butt unless it's like the very end of the game and we're down three scores. And then Peyton is just like, all right, just, just let it fly. Just let it fly down that field. And then it's like, oh, he, he has nothing to worry about. And he, he feels comfortable again, but he is gotta get out of his own head. Man, this is bad play and it's, it is really annoying.
Jason:Well, you're still eight two, so record record says what you are, what your record says you are.
Pershin:No,
Jason:not this
Pershin:time.
Jason:Frauds. Fraud. Land. Fraudulent. Fraudulent. Um, alright man, so let's, let's talk about this Packers game real quick. I. It was the same score as the Thursday, this night, Thursday game ever. But yet this game was a lot more entertaining defensively. There wasn't bad play, it was just good defense. And the part that like so defensively, you know, everybody's trying to point fingers at Michael Parsons and how we paid all this money for him. And when you actually look at his tweet that he posted, you know, I mean he's a hundred percent right. You know, Saco Barkley, all of one play was, was shut down. The offense of the Eagles was large in part non-existent. But for one drive, like, and so when you look at defensively, you know, you're like, all right, cool. We can hang with Super Bowl champions. But then when you look at the offensive side of things, and this is where things start to get, it, is starting to show some cracks. And what I mean by that is Jordan Love made several good passes that the ball were, was dropped. Christian Watson. I don't know why all of a sudden he decided to play defense on that play. Had he played offense, he probably would've caught the ball. Um, and then penalties. Penalties. Christian Watson caught a pass in the red zone penalty, wiped it out, completely stalled our drive. We probably win the game if we don't get that penalty. And so you start to look at coaching. And while I do love Matt Lele, the constant shepherding of Brandon McManus out there when I don't think he can make a kick right now to save his life. And we have a guy on the roster who can make a kick. And it's not because McManus is bad, it's'cause he's partially injured. And then, and that,
Pershin:that was a weird quote. Just, just quickly to, to touch on that for a minute. Maybe you've already seen this, but LaFleur had a weird quote about McManus.'cause a reporter was asking him like, Hey, so McManus seems to be suggesting that he's playing through an injury or whatever. And Lalo said, I don't KI don't talk to the kickers.
Jason:Yeah.
Pershin:Like, I what, bro? Super weird. You're the head coach. What do you mean you don't talk to the, have you ever, I've never even heard of something like that before. Like I understand like, Hey, I'm as anti kicker as anyone. Take him out the game. But it's like, if you got a kicker on your team who's telling the media that they're playing through an injury, maybe that's something you're interested in. Like, that's a weird thing. That's a weird, weird, weird, just a weird situation there.
Jason:Yeah. So, you know, we'll see. I mean. Can't fire the guy. He's got winning records. He is, you know, handpicked Jordan Love, you know, I'm not suggesting that we get rid of him. I'm just, oh, no, I think he's a good coach. I think he's a, I'm just suggesting that as the team, they need to get on the same page. Something needs to change and, and, and we need some leadership to step in and just get the guys on the right track. Maybe they need to go to, to like a theme park or something, to have a, have a bonding day or something like that. I don't know, they don't have theme parks in Wisconsin, but maybe they can all go eat cheese curds and drink beer together or, oh, or have a fish fry. I don't know.
Pershin:They need, they need to all go into the woods, get in a giant tepe and do some fucking peyote together.
Jason:Yeah, that's fine. Maybe do a, do a couple days, uh, darkness retreat.
Pershin:That's right.
Jason:Alright. Uh, so yeah, man, again, also again about this game, like this argument that the push push is not capable of being ref. I don't know if anybody saw the first touch push of this game, but it is so blatantly obvious that these dudes are false starting that it, it's just like, I mean, granted, I'm not gonna harp about it because we did, Jaylen Hurts, fumbled the ball in a couple plays after that, so it's not that big of a deal. But like, dude, that was so, like, the guys literally moved forward and the ball was snapped like, uh, two seconds later.
Pershin:Yeah. Even on the broadcast, they were like, how, like, how do you not notice that? It's like one of the guys was basically like. I'm not trying to harp on this all the time. I'm not trying to bring it up as a thing to talk about every single week, but it's like, man, uh, that's pretty noticeable. Like
Jason:yeah, it was pretty
Pershin:obvious. I mean, e every single football fan, I mean, even someone who doesn't know anything about football, if they saw that play, they'd be like, oh yeah, you could like, yeah,
Jason:you could tell,
Pershin:I, I could ref that. I could officiate that. Like, it's weird. It, it really feels weird that they can't,
Jason:I can officiate it from the couch. They should be able to officiate it from five feet away.
Pershin:Yeah.
Jason:Um, alright. And, and
Pershin:I'll charge less.
Jason:Yeah, there you go. Um, I will say, uh, let's, let's talk about Jets Browns game real quick as well. Hey man, did you know Nick Folk is 19 for 19 on field goals and 11 for 11 on extra points this season? I. Wow. Yeah. Is he the only one that's perfect? He, he might be the only one that's perfect this season. He's the only one and so funny story about him. So fantasy football, this league that I'm in, we have a, a free agency bank account and we had a hundred dollars in there. I've already spent all mine. And so that poses a problem because then you can't pick up players when you have players that are on a buy. So I had a kicker that was on a buy and I traded for another kicker, um, and some other players. But that kicker then was, was on a buy this week. So I traded him. So I traded him for Nick Folk. Just to fill that roster slot and hopefully I'm good on the kicker buys from here on out. That, that, man, that's rough that you're all out of dollars though. Well, well here's the question. In my first year doing that, I didn't understand like quite all the rules and like I didn't realize that
Pershin:you
Jason:didn't realize that there was a minimum
Pershin:Yeah.
Jason:Players up. Like I thought like if nobody bid on them, you could just pick them up for$0.
Pershin:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, here's what I was gonna say though, is like, are you allowed to trade the, the fab dollars? Um,'cause that, that might be worth it for you. Like if you, if someone's like, oh, uh. You know, I, I wanna do a, a, uh, I've got a guy on buy and I wanna replace him with a one week rental debt piece, whatever. You know, you could like trade someone on the back end of your bench to someone who might be able to use them and then they give you some fab back. Can you do that? Yeah. Might not, might not matter anymore. I, I mean. If you're a listener of the Pine PUD podcast, uh, the seed's been hot for three years now, so I don't know. I guess, I guess I'm starting to agree with you, eh, I used to kind of cut him some slack. Uh, I felt like his biggest problem was actually with Deshaun Watson, but the thing is like, ah, there's been other guys in there, and aside from, uh, a little bit of Jameis doing Jameis things, it's been just really low output. I mean, I, I, I, Jerry Judy is getting like two or three catches a game. I mean, Cedric Tillman was supposed to be a decent prospect. He's done almost nothing this season. I mean, this is just the, the best thing they got going for themselves is perhaps their. Backup tight end. Harold Fanon is, uh, kind of outproducing in Joe, who I guess is I, that's something for, for Browns fans to be excited about, I guess. But I mean, this is all, just, none of this shit has worked out. I, and even the run game, uh, you know, you got Judkins who's done well himself, but they're not, they're not pass protecting well in the oline. They're not open up, uh, holes in the run game very well. Receivers don't seem to be getting open very well, and then the quarterbacks aren't playing well. So at some point it's like, man, it, it's probably this scheme and this system just kind of sucks. And unless you're going crazy, man, Jameis, you're not seeing any life. You know what I mean? It's just. Yeah, right. Exactly. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It, and my thing is, is that ever since they went to the playoffs, and I understand why people gave him a lot of credit, uh, for getting them to the playoffs, it's almost like the same as the Day Bowl situation where when Dabo made it to the playoffs, people weren't expecting that. It's like, oh, not only are you coaching the year, but now you get another couple years of job security built in because of that one year. But the thing is that like we've seen what happened at Dayville, right? And I think what happened at Dayville is the normal thing where it's like, okay, you get a another year to of job security, kind of a, no matter what. We're gonna let you stick around. But the thing is like, I think we're now three or three and a half seasons removed from that, and it doesn't seem like it's been going up at all. It just seems like it's slowly just been getting a little bit worse each time. And so, you know, we are certainly to the point where I'm on board with the, I, I think he's had his fair, he's, he's had his fair shake already. He's had his fair opportunity to, to show what he could do with the team. It hasn't worked out, and I just don't think, I think he's probably better off as a coordinator type guy than an actual head coach. That's what I think. Y you know what it is? You know what it is, is Case Keenum had that one single good year in Minnesota, and he probably got credit for being the one good year that case Keenum had. He pro people were like, oh, it's, he did that. He made the the anomaly season for Kingdom. And so he must be a QB whisperer. He's not a QB whisperer. He didn't whisper anything to Deshaun that helped at all. Okay. And also this keeps happening at the collegiate level too, where these guys are, they have like a better than expected season at a mid-major or smaller school. And so they, they bring them onto a bigger school and throw a whole bunch of money at'em that's like guaranteed money. And then a season and a half later they're like, oh shit, we need to eat all that money'cause this ain't working. And so it's like, I just think that people should probably like, take a little step back and be a little more measured. Whenever, whenever coaches do sort of like overperform for one or two seasons, like that's great. It's not a bad thing, of course, but it's also like, that doesn't necessarily mean they're ready for anything. You know what I mean? It doesn't necessarily mean that they're, I. Yeah, he, he is, he's the offensive coordinator somewhere. I'm trying to remember where he is at. Oh yeah. He's not even part of the carousel when coaches get fired now. Yeah. Uh, like the second half of it I was, but uh, I thought it was the last, is there another one still? Geez. Damn, there are so many this year. Um, anyway, uh, I thought this was a pretty cool, pretty good game actually. I like that. Uh, you know, that Drake, London kind of took over, uh, towards the second half of that game and they, Pennix was putting the ball up to Drake, London, and he was just kind of Moss sing dudes and making plays and just trying to, trying to pull out a victory there. I think that, um, I think that the Patriots are pretty well-rounded team though, like they, the Patriots. Am I thinking of the wrong game? Oh, the colds, man, I'm thinking of the week before. Shit, I'm, I'm, I'm all mixed up in the head. Um, and I. I, I did not, I did not see this game. I did not see any of this game. I, I saw the, the final score, bro, I feel like, I feel like I, this might not literally be true, but it could literally be true. I feel like he's had more games with more than two touchdowns this year. Then he is had with two or less. Like I, I've never seen someone just score so many touchdowns week in and week out like this. And it's not even a ton through the air. I mean, he is getting some passes, but it's just, it's just really eaten teams up right through the middle of the defense. Man. It's, it's, I mean, he's the new Derrick Henry man. He really is. People do not want to tackle this motherfucker. I didn't, I didn't see it. Did he get like a good amount of playing time here? Yeah, I, I guess he must have done all right because I hadn't heard, haven't heard anyone clowning on him or anything. But, um, I think in general, I, I think, I think in the general sense, I think they gave up too much for one single defensive player, basically any player that's not a qb, I would never consider giving up two first plus adenine Mitchell. But that being said. I do think he is legitimately going to help them, uh, contend this year. So. They're gonna be in the playoffs. Yeah. Um, well, as I was alluding to when I was talking about the wrong week of football, I, I do think that this is a well-rounded team that this, this team is. Is actually better than I thought they would be coming into the year. And a big reason is because Drake may, after impressing me as a rookie, has, has been even better. His second year has really stepped into, uh, being a, a better quarterback, particularly in, uh, his deep passing. I think he's just behind Sam Darn. Uh, another guy who was once left for dead. Uh. As the most accurate with passes 20 yards or more. And I think that when you look at who he's passing to, whether it's Khan bte, or it's Damario Douglas, or this past week it was Mack Hollins. I mean, these guys are not all stars. They're just not. And the fact that he's, he's making it work with whoever they're throwing out there on the field with him is really impressive. And just as a team, they have really good EPA, uh, per, per drop back. And this is with a below average, uh, pass blocking offensive line and below average pass catchers. And so while we've gotten decent play at times from Re St. Stevenson and Trayvon Hendrick. Henderson in the run game. I, I just think that the majority of this offense is going because he's actually playing at an elite level this year. I think that he should be in consideration for MVP right now. I, I really don't, that's probably a hot take for like a young guy like that, but, uh, you know, I just don't see a lot of o other quarterbacks who are really standing head and shoulders out from the pack. And I, like, if I had to pick one that is, it's probably him. I mean, he really is elevating everyone around him and he's been consistent. It's game in, game out. He, he hasn't had a dud yet and, you know, he doesn't necessarily run as much as Lamar Jackson or Jaden Daniels, but when he does run, it's very effective. He's very, very smart with when he decides to scramble and when he doesn't. And I just, I just think he, he's, he's. You know, even though it's just his second year, he's just a really smart, really well-rounded quarterback who's just been playing as well as any quarterback this season. And, um, it's making all the difference for their offense. I think as far as the defense goes, we kind of did expect them to be improved this year. They have been improved this year, arguably the best run defense in the league. I would've liked them to try to trade for a cornerback alongside of Christian Gonzalez at the deadline. They decided not to, but I still think that their defense is pretty good. And so, uh, when you look at, at it like at a whole, yeah. They're a legitimate contender. They're a well-rounded team, man. I just, uh, I think, I think they're in the playoffs. I think they're in the playoffs. How, how, how about day Davis Mills coming from out of the rubble and people are like, wait, he's still in the league, and then he has a better game than Stroud has had this whole season. It's just, I just, I love it. I just love, uh, every, every time we think that these dudes are left for dead somehow they just, they just have good games or something. I don't know. Um, I, I don't know. I think, uh, Stroud probably comes back this week, right? So it's just one single game. I don't. Uh, that would be risky, right? If you're, if you're like a GM of another team, you're like, well, he looked good that one game though. Yeah. Right. Yeah. That's, yeah, that's some Browns, that shit right there. Throw him into the mix. We'll have him competing with, with, uh, URA Sanders and Dylan and Gabriel. There we go. But, but yeah. Yeah. Right. Um, but yeah, to your point about, um, TT Law, I think it's definitely time that we all just kind of like have the realization that he's never going to be that guy. He was supposed to be. I talked about this, uh, on this very podcast, you know, over the summer when, when we were talking about expectations for his guys. I'm like, look, they brought in Liam Coh. They doubled down and, and not only did they get, uh, Brian Thomas Jr. As their first round selection last year, but then they come back this year and they trade up to make sure that they get Hunter to throw him in the mix for him. And they've just been doing everything they can to Pamper slash Pay T Law and Yeah. And they brought in Jacobi Myers. Man, they just keep throwing excuses at this guy. Like, come on man. Something's gotta, we will see what happens with Jacobi Myers. It, this was his very first game, so I wasn't expecting much. But the point is just that was he damn. Uh, yeah, but still the point stands that they have been doing everything they can to make him happy and to give him everything he needs to succeed. And he continues to just be a meh quarterback. Like he, he's not the worst quarterback, right? Like he's, he's okay, but he's not that guy. He was supposed to be, he was supposed to be one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Everybody expected this guy to be hot shit, day one and it's day. A thousand and he's, we're still waiting. We're still waiting. And I, I mean, if, if he had a different name, he would not, he would not even have gotten paid like that. And we would've all already decided like, oh, he's just, whatever. He's met. He's, he's fucking, he, yeah. Yeah. I mean, he, he, he, he goes in the fucking Derek car bucket. He's with Gino Smith, or he's whatever these guys that like, sure. I. Y Yeah. Or fucking even like Bri, even like Bridgewater, Minsu, whatever. These guys are like, okay, if, if you really wanna bridge quarterback just for one season while you figure out what you wanna do long term or whatever, like, yeah, he, he, he'll give you a chance to win some of these games. He's not complete as, but he's not the franchise. Like, oh yeah, he's gonna be our guy and we feel comfortable with him like you do with the Herbert, with the Mahomes, the, with the Jordan Love. Even he's not at that level. Like, like I would rather, I like that, that the 49 ERs paid Brock Purdy all that money, more so than I like how they paid Tela all that money that he, he has just been living off of his name and his resume from the fucking Clemson days this entire time. It's time that we all come to the realization that he's kind of man. Not com not compared to this. Yeah, yeah. People were trying to say like, oh, you, you didn't need to pay Brock Purdy that.'cause any, any, any old quarterback is gonna look good under Shanahan. I, I'm not convinced Telo would look good under Shanahan. He's fucking meth. He's fucking met bro. But Peterson was supposed to get him straight. That didn't work out. Now Cohen is in there. He's, he's supposed to be a genius guru guy. They, they keep drafting. They keep, yeah. Who's that? Hey, maybe, maybe he could get'em to have that one case Kingdom season. Yeah. Right? Yes, I do. Yep. Uh, the Seahawks right? No, it was the Seahawks. It, it was, uh, Russell Wilson eventually took his job. Yeah, that's what it was. He, yeah, he, he's a rich guy right now to this day. He's fil the rich. Yeah. Demi Brown. Yeah. Houston's got a, Houston's got a really good pass rush.
Jason:Yeah,
Pershin:he has been on a crazy pace. I mean, yeah. Ha. Have you heard, have you heard the, uh, the Stafford Terminator conspiracy? The, the, there, there's people, uh, on Reddit and apparently on Twitter too. I try not to be on Twitter, but there's, there's people that are saying that. There's pe, there's people that are saying that he, he missed a bunch of time, uh, during training camp, which is true. He w he was gone for a long time where he just wasn't around the facility or whatever and he was having back problems. People said maybe he'll need some kind of surgery for back or so people were really worried about it before the season started. And then when he did finally show up for practice, uh, people noticed a birthmark that was not on previous pictures. And I think the whole thing is a little tongue in cheek. I don't take it serious, but I think it is really fun because he is sure enough, way better than Matt Stepford has ever been at like. Yeah, they're saying that this someone else, that this is like a, a, a robot that's way better than Matt Stafford trying to be Matt Stafford. And that, uh, it's some sort of Matt Stafford Terminator that has come, uh, to kick ass and take names and, um, yeah. Yeah, it could, they can, uh, they can assume our identities. I, I think I, that's what I've heard. I don't know, we, we'd have to check in and friend of the Pod Smith about that, but, uh. Uh, what's really funny about it though is like people did like, sort of conspiracy post about it as soon as they noticed that like, oh, there seems to be a birthmark that wasn't there prior to the extended training cap, a absence or whatever. And, uh, I think it's really, it's just great. It's just perfect that he's come out and played super duper well to help stoke those fires. I think all of the photos where people saw it were photos from when he had just come back in training camp. So we need to see, we need to, to make sure it's still there. Yeah. Uh, it was on, where was it? It was on like the back of his arm, back of one of his arms, I think. Uh, yeah, if it, if it was on one of the back of his arms, then there should be like recent photos of it available too. But, uh, I don't know. Uh, I just think it's just so funny that he's come out and played like. Uh, remarkably well after the Terminator conspiracy. So, uh, it's just something fun. I don't know, I, I'm pretty sure it's all bullshit, but, uh, what's not bullshit is he is on pace to absolutely wreck. So. That. Yeah, you've already filled your quota. There could be some more fireworks. And this, I think this was just two or three weeks ago that we had the UN Bowl, and this is the, this is the rematch of the UN Bowl. So, uh, that was a ton of offense in that game. So hopefully we get another rerun of that. Uh, I can't remember who they played. They got, they got, they got the Chief, that's right. They got the Chiefs and then they gotta buy week 12. Yeah. We should be, I, yeah. Well, well, here's the thing is that it's funny that we're playing the Chiefs and we're talking about this very topic, because last year, if you recall, the Chiefs kept winning all their games in the fourth quarter at the last second, where it was like, wow, they keep coming out on the right side of all these fucking three point games or whatever, and. Uh, uh, I think that's basically what the Broncos have been doing this year is they're, they're eight and two, but they really should be like 500 right now, you know what I mean? They should be like five and five instead of eight and two. Uh, I think that the chiefs are the better team right now. Unfortunately, I, I can totally understand why they are the underdog, but look, I have never been one to, uh, forsake the good luck. So if luck's just gonna be on our side all season, then I'll fucking take it and hopefully, uh, the stampede just beats the shit outta the chiefs and, uh, Mahomes could suck it and, uh, Kareem Hunt can suck it and Priest Holmes could suck it and, uh, Christian Naco can suck it in all of'em. Okay, so. Oh hell. Oh, well that, that right there is why the, that that right there is why the Vegas line is what? It's, oh man. We, everyone that has had to the misfortune of going up against Jonathan Taylor and their fantasy matchups, you get a fucking break this week. I, I can't believe I got four fucking leagues and no Jonathan Taylor. I'm like, God dammit, I fucked up. Yeah, for real.
