jason:

Welcome. Welcome to another edition of the Pine Pony Podcast. As always, you got me the OG, hanging out with the fantasy uncle. What's happen?

pershin:

Howdy, howdy. Got my roommate's cat here trying to get all of my attention away from the podcast, but don't you worry, I'm here. I'm excited to talk some ball for another week and review, maybe even preview if we got some time. How you been my friend? Yeah,

jason:

good man. You know, making all the wrong starts in fantasy. You know, one week Kenneth Gain, well, gets you three points. The next week he gets you 29 points. You know, so what can you do?

pershin:

Yeah. And it's still fucking up in the air. Jalen Warren's like, oh no, I could've played if I needed to. I'll, I'll, I'll be there for next game. Mike Tomlin's, like, I don't know. Yeah, we'll see. I'm like, we still don't know who's gonna play. So

jason:

that's the season in a nutshell.

pershin:

Yeah.

jason:

With that being said, man, we're gonna get into some MLS College football, NFL, and so let's start the show. Alright, so let's start off with the MLS. So. Just so there, there were no games, but there were two things that happened this week. The, they had meetings and they discussed, so they're changing the schedule in 2027 to a fall, spring schedule. So that means the season will start, you know, in like August, September. They'll take a break in December and January and then finish it off in May. So. Yeah. Oh wow. Some people are mad about it'cause it's like, well, you're competing with like Premier League or all these other leagues, NFL, like why would you do that? So,

pershin:

yeah. It's seems like a pretty gnarly gap too, right? Yeah, I guess, huh. To end to end in November and then all the way to May.

jason:

Well, they'll have other games. It just like, it won't be, you won't pick it back up in May. You'll end in like November, have some games, like there just will be a bunch of games and then it'll pick back up like Jan, mid-January, going into end until May. Oh,

pershin:

okay. I misunderstood you that.

jason:

I got you. Yeah, so we'll see. We'll see how it happens. But starting next year, if you are a subscriber of Apple TV, MLS is part of your package. They are getting rid of the extra subscription for MLS only. And as long as you're an Apple subscriber, it'll be part of your package. No extra charge.

pershin:

So when.

jason:

Yeah,

pershin:

really smart move by Apple. The, I think this is such a smart move by Apple's, people who are debating, ah, which, which sort of subscription I wanna buy, whatever. I mean, there's a ton of people throughout the world, but particularly here in North America to like. Literally does not care about the major sports, just cares about soccer or football, as they would call it. And so I think this is, this just makes a ton of sense.

jason:

Yeah.

pershin:

Win-win for

jason:

sure. Okay, so that's all I got for MLS. And then, so I, before we get into. The big football week. So I came across my newsfeed that in Texas, the, we had some high school football. I'm trying, I'm trying to find my notes. I thought I had notes on this. But anyway, and so there were three teams in Texas to high school football. That were tied, so, so we had some drama. So one team had to vacate six wins because they had an ineligible player playing on their team. So that vacated'em down to two and four. Man. Where are my notes? Two and four. And. The other two teams were also to enforce. So they're essentially fighting for like what appears to be the last spot, if you will, in, in this football. So playoffs.

pershin:

So then when you, when you vacate the wins, they don't count as losses, they just count as games. Not even, no. They count as losses

jason:

because. They still only had, they still had, like, they were still the same record. So, but I don't know. But either way, so So the team that was supposed to be in there, I guess, so the three coaches of these teams, so it's, it's Amarillo and then Amarillo Cock, cock Rock.

pershin:

No way. Is that right?

jason:

Hold on, let me get this standing. So let me, lemme make sure I get this right. Cap Rock. Cap rock. Yeah. Oh, okay. And then one other team, and so they were all tied at their two and four and three and seven are two and nine overall. Right. But they're tied in this, in the district standings. So. Just, I don't even know that you could guess how they solved this problem. The three? Yeah,

pershin:

I have no idea. You might as well just tell me'cause I'm not gonna give the three

jason:

coaches met of a a a two in totem, a two in totem gas station. And a tot and totem gas station and, and all three coaches flipped a coin and the odd man out was the winner. Yeah. Wow. So if, if everybody else got heads, you got tails, you were going to the playoffs,

pershin:

right? Wait, please tell me They all flipped the same thing and they had to keep refl. No, the video

jason:

that I saw only had one flip and. And the dude won a, Hey, you know what the, it was the team that vacated the title, the, the Wins anyway, so they probably should have been in there to begin with. But they've already won their first game, so, you know, it seems to be all right. It's just, just a whole house story. It's pretty cool. Met at Pretty Toot and Totem

pershin:

a. A. Anytime for the rest of my life that I'm in a, like a, a three person situation that's like, someone's the third wheel here, what we're we're doing flipping coins maybe. Yeah. Whoever doesn't have someone else flip the same thing you out.

jason:

Yeah. So that was, that was interesting. Yeah. Okay. So. All right, let's do college football up first. Hey, man, Clemson had an upset weekend. We upset number 20, ranked Louisville this, this past weekend, man, how about that?

pershin:

It's good, but it's just a sad reminder of, of what? How far we fallen. Listen, while I hate it, is like, oh, we we got, we upset Louisville. I'm like,

jason:

damn. While I hate that we have fallen this far, the climb is always exciting. So I'm excited to, to climb that mountaintop.

pershin:

That's true. That's true. At least you did beat Louisville. I didn't, I don't think the Buffalos beat a single decent opponent this entire season. It's, it's that's a buffalo. Very sad

jason:

for, yeah. Hey man. Bama got upset by, okay, Oklahoma. Well, number 11. Oklahoma number. So that's interesting. Texas

pershin:

love to see it, man. They just keep mixing that shit up. That

jason:

daunting. SEC, the seasons had

pershin:

so much parody.

jason:

And then Texas was spanked by Georgia, man. So is Arch manning it or not? He is not it.

pershin:

He's not it yet.

jason:

How many more years? I, I like the idea that

pershin:

he can develop into it, but he is not it yet, at the very least. So

jason:

insane. Insane. And then what? Georgia Tech barely beat Boston College nine to one. Georgia Tech. Whew. One by two points. And then the game that I watched this, this weekend'cause Clemson game was on Friday, so that was nice. Got that out of the way. So I actually picked up this Texas a and m, South Carolina game. Te this was Wild. South Carolina was up on Texas a and m at halftime, 30 to three and, and we're Oh, destroying, like they, that's, so were waxy really good. And then. A and m came out in that third quarter and put it on him. Dude, a and m scored 21 in the third and seven in the fourth to win the game. 31 30. And you know, I gotta give it up to, to Smith. Wow. The pod, I, I sent a text that said, man, a and m might lose to this. A team that might not make a bowl. And he was like, ah. I would be surprised if South Carolina loses in the second half. And sure enough, they lost it in the second half.

pershin:

I mean, that's a hell of a coaching adjustment to have them go from scoring 30 points to zero. The next

jason:

half of that, like, dude, it was so weird how quickly the momentum changed to a and m side. Dude,

pershin:

pretty rough. That's south Carolina's, the Le North sellers, right? Yeah. He was

jason:

supposed to be really good too. And they're one in seven in the SEC.

pershin:

Yeah, I remember before the year the, you know, people talking about, oh, you know, the, the 25 QB class might not be good, but the next year's QB class is gonna be so good. Kate Club, Nick Arch Manning, Leno. Sellers and, and what? NUS Meyer and it, I literally am forgetting a couple names here, but the, but the thing is like, I'm pretty sure every single one of those dudes has disappointed this, yes. So it's like, is it actually a good QB class now in 26? I guess not. Right? It's like probably most of these kids just want to go back to college now if they're not gonna get drafted high in the draft. Right.

jason:

If they can. Yeah, we will see, I mean if they still have years, right? Yeah. You to claim that COVID year or I tweaked my muscle year. I don't know, co

pershin:

man. Are there still people that are on the COVID year that are still in there? There? Man,

jason:

it's so convoluted. All right. And then next, looking forwards to next week's games, Missouri versus Oklahoma, USC versus Oregon. Pittsburgh versus Georgia Tech. That's kind of it. So I thought we'd take a look at the playoff picture. As it stands right now, it is looking like we got Ohio State as the one seed, Indiana as the two seed. Texas a and m is the three and up until yesterday or day before Saturday, I don't know why I had this. Yeah, was Alabama. It was Alabama, but they might still be in there.

pershin:

Right?

jason:

Playoff picture. I just looked this up today.

pershin:

I'm assuming Oklahoma got a nice bump if they beat Alabama. Right? Because Oklahoma should have already been in the mix, I think. Yeah.

jason:

This is on SPN. So anyway, Alabama, no, Oklahoma's 11. They're, they're probably out. Or they were, I look right here. Yeah, Oklahoma beat Alabama. It's eight and two. Eight and two. So if you take a look at the SEC standings, you got a and m Georgia, Ole Miss Alabama, Texas, and Oklahoma. That's damn van ain't nowhere in there after Oklahoma, then Missouri, Tennessee. But that's interesting that, that if you go to like the playoff thing on ESPN, as of this old,

pershin:

they just haven't updated it since this weekend. Yeah. Is that what it's,

jason:

all right. So the projected bracket is Texas Tech. Gimme a, gimme a Can I just get, alright, we're gonna have to redo this part. All right. All right, so the current bracket that we have right now for, for the college football playoff is number one, Ohio State, number two, Indiana. Number three, Texas a and m. Number four, Georgia. Those are the first four buys. Mm-hmm. And then number five, you got Texas Tech. They would play number 12, two lane, then you got number six. Ole Miss would play number 11, Miami. Number seven, Oregon would play number 10, Alabama. And number eight, Oklahoma would play number nine, Notre Dame in the college football ranking. Yeah, that makes sense. That's interesting.

pershin:

Let's say that it does shake out exactly like that bracket right there. Which team do you think is most likely to upset the higher seed?

jason:

Well, like Oklahoma to me could be a wild card. I don't trust Notre Dame Texas Tech in Tulane. I'm, I don't, I don't put any stock in them against Georgia. And then Oregon. Alabama, I mean, Oregon could absolutely upset Indiana. I, I think they'll be Alabama. And then this whole bottom right side of the bracket, Texas a and m, Ole Miss and Miami, none of those teams are making it. They'll, you know, they'll make it in that first round. But the whoever comes out of that. Miami Ole Miss game, and then Texas a and m game is probably gonna lose in the semi-final that that whole side of the bracket. I don't, I feel you, those teams like a and m, you just, you just had 30 points put upon you in a half. Great. You came back, but you should have, that's South Carolina that you should have never been down by that much.

pershin:

Yeah, team that's one in seven in there against

jason:

the good teams basically. So really to answer your question, I would say either Oklahoma or Oregon, I mean even Alabama, if Alabama gets there, gets, gets to play Indiana, but I, I mean Ohio, I think it's gonna be Ohio State versus Georgia, and. God man, that bottom right man, A and m Miami Ole Miss. I don't know who's gonna win that, that, that side, but it'll be, I think it'll, I think it'll be the higher seeds. It'll be Ohio State. Georgia. Indiana, and then one of those three teams in the bottom right. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay, fair enough. But I mean, yeah, so you got, I mean, so right now it's, they got four teams outta the SEC in there, and three of them have one losses. So, you know, some of these teams are, you know, Georgia, Ole Miss Alabama, they're fighting for that to play in a conference championship still. So. That should be an interesting race coming down to the end. And then when you look at the a CC side, you got, you really got four teams in it right now. Georgia Tech, Virginia, Pittsburgh, and SMU, they all have one loss within the conference. Really. Georgia Tech is the, is the only one loss team total. Overall, so. So I'm surprised that they're not ranked hired in Miami, and I'm also surprised that Miami is, is they've got them essentially winning the a CC and getting into the playoffs that way. So that's, that's an interesting one. I,

pershin:

well, we'll see.

jason:

And then. Looking at the, yeah, big 12. You got Texas Tech, BYUU, Utah, and Houston and Arizona State Sun Devils all kind of in the mix there. I mean, not really. It's really Texas Tech and BYU, but there's some other teams they'll need some.

pershin:

That's exactly what I was gonna say. I was like, you, you gotta expect, especially Texas Tech, but maybe Texas Tech and BYU are kind of head and shoulders above the rest. So,

jason:

and then in the Big 10 you got, it's the Hoosiers and the Buckeyes. They're both undefeated. So mean go, go Hoosiers. Just

pershin:

wild how good the Hoosiers are. Yeah. Yeah.

jason:

They're pretty good. Pretty good. Okay. Moving to the NFL, do, do, do, so we're not gonna talk about this team, but the Bengals, they, this was their first opening drive touchdown since week one, man. Well done. That's sad.

pershin:

That was the only touchdown they had, I think.

jason:

Yeah. And then another fun fact. So we had that, that Sunday morning game in Madrid. Did you, did you know, man, that field is amazing. So the field

pershin:

I didn't even see. Yeah. The field

jason:

itself, unfortunately, the grass gets, can be moved underground. It has an automated like mower, sprinkler, and light system to grow the grass.

pershin:

I, I have often wondered to myself, like in 2025, why don't they all have their. Own, like personal, like lighting, sort of whatever. Like you think about all the money that NFL has, it's like, shouldn't they invest in like the best possible fields? Like

jason:

it's greed, man, they can't, they can't invest in the best possible fields if they wanna make the most, maximize the most amount of money. That sounds like America, modern slavery, to be honest. But nonetheless. All right, so let's talk about these Panthers. Man, they, they keep finding ways to win. Who

pershin:

are the Panthers?

jason:

Dude, Bryce Young has won the starting spot next season, in my opinion, like. OI

pershin:

mean, it's just one game though. The crazy thing is that, but it's

jason:

not just one game. Bryce

pershin:

Young has done this before. He, he hasn't done it this well. He, this is clearly a head and shoulders above what he's done before, at least statistically. But the thing is, like he's had. Yeah, really good game before, in fact, he's even had like stretches, you know, four or five, six games in a row where it's like, oh, well he's good. They're good to go. No problem. He's, you know, he is gonna be the guy. And then it's like, he always goes back to being just bad and, and like bad for stretches, you know what I mean? Like. I don't know if he's gonna be able to build on this. I hope he does. I'm not a Bryce Young hater or anything, but it's just hard to have faith when you've already seen this sort of good play before and it's like, yeah, but he's gonna be butt again next week. It's like, I just know it and like, I'm glad that he was able to respond to the challenge though, because when you actually, you know, watch the game and you're like, okay, what, what are they trying to do here? I mean, it was obvious. They were like, we are not letting Rico do beat us. We are not letting Rico Dodo beat us. And so basically the entire game plan was, all right, we're gonna make Bryce Young, throw the ball. We are going to make, see the game, plan us with, with the pass. And I actually thought this was a really smart move. I'm like, yeah, just go ahead and put eight, nine. Fuck it. 12 in the box, whatever,'cause they have yet to show that they could do that much through the air. Well, he responded and I mean, he was getting the ball out quick when they were bringing pressure and they actually had the most plays of any team on the week. Through play action plays. Mm-hmm. So, you know, this is basically a shout out to Callahan. Coached a really good game here. He saw what they were doing and he's like, all right, well we're gonna play action them. And we should get one-on-one with Ted, and if not, we should have plenty of space in the underneath for Coker and Legett or whatever. And it worked really well. And, you know, so kudos to him. Also, kudos to Bryce for stepping up and making the plays. You know, just making the right reads, making accurate passes. It looked pretty good. I know Smith was basically messaging with us while it happened. He was like, oh, he's so trash every, every throw looks like ass or whatever. And I was like, man, he must be so bad. And then when I went back, I looked, I was like, wait. 440 something yards. And then I, I saw the plays. I was like, no, Bryce Young actually looked pretty good. I, I think Smith's kind of like me though. He's like, I just can't trust it. No, he can't. I just can't trust it. Like, it's just, it's just one game.

jason:

Can't trust it. It's just one game.

pershin:

But it was, it was good to see that this is actually like a possibility for him that this is actually in the range of, of,

jason:

he's just gotta put it all together for, you know. Week and week. Consistency. That's all you need, man. Just, just a little consistency. Yeah. It's all about Ted McMillan had a great game. Two touchdowns, over a hundred yards, man. 12 targets, nine catches.

pershin:

Finally, finally had that spike week that all of his owners have been waiting for. You know, if you got him on your team, it's, it's been, oh man, eight targets, nine targets, eight Target. He's like, oh, come on man. You could have come down with that pass. You almost had a big game. Almost had two touchdowns, almost. Almost, and finally it happened. So nice to see proof of concept there.

jason:

Bankable. I mean, in all honesty, the Panthers probably lost this game because. There was big panic, energy missing for a portion of this game. So, you know, Kirk, Kirk Cousins hasn't greased the wheels in a long time. So, you know the, so maybe this is just a fluke.

pershin:

Yeah. You mean that's why the Panthers won, right? I think you said that's why the Panthers lost, that's why the Falcons lost. Yeah. That's why they were able to get this win. Yeah. It's, looks like. Pennix is out for the remainder of the year and unfortunately Drake London's out at least like two or three weeks. He's got a PCL strain, which is the same thing that just kept Ricky Paw out for six weeks and then earlier kept Brock Bowers out for four weeks. So, I mean, if he, if he's ready in five or six weeks from now and it's like week 17, they're not in the playoff picture. They're probably just, they're not in gonna be, don't bother. They're just probably gonna shut him down. They're not playoff, I think.

jason:

Yeah, realistically.

pershin:

Yeah, unfortunately I think there's a good chance that both Drake, London and Michael Pennix end up just getting shut down the remainder of the season.

jason:

That's fair. That's fair. That's fair. Sucks. As they should. As they should. Just a quick note. Jacobi 47 completions, that's the beat. He just set. He set the record for most completions in a single game. And he lost. They lost that game.

pershin:

The man has been,

jason:

but they, they got destroyed game. The man has been game. They lost 41 to 22.

pershin:

They did. It was primarily because of penalties. They had 17 penalties, including 11 in the first half, and the 49 ERs had a grand total of one penalty the entire game. So that was the big thing. He did throw a couple interceptions. One was kind of not his fault, but one certainly was his fault. So, you know, there was that really bad pass. But for the most part. But he was putting really, well, man, this is

jason:

crazy to, to lose. You have 488 total yards of offense. Then you lost and the other team has 281.

pershin:

Yeah,

jason:

that's the cardinal season in a nutshell. Like I said,

pershin:

the, there was a ton of penalties and particularly like in really tough spots where it's like, oh, we got a third and two. Now we got a third and 12th. Sounds like

jason:

Green Bay. Yeah.

pershin:

So well, yeah, green Bay does be pulling that shit too. I mean, the, the Broncos pulled that this past week, but I'm sure we'll get to those. All right. Next

jason:

Game up. Bears Vikings really needed the Vikings to come home with a win. And somehow the Bears found a yet another way to win on a fifth, like just can't with this team. I hate the bears.

pershin:

I feel like the Bears might be the luckiest team in the NFL right now. Yeah, I, I think they're, they're either tied or they're winning that division right now and they are. So obviously worse than both the lines and the Packers, in my opinion, and the Vikings are not a bad team, but JJ McCarthy looked so bad. I think he will single-handedly cap them from being able to be competitive in most of these games. I was shocked at how inaccurate a lot of his passes were. It wasn't just like, oh, that was a little high, a little behind, man. It was like. Really there was, there was a couple passes where Justin Jefferson did not bother to reach out'cause he's like, holy shit, I'm not kidding that like,

jason:

yeah dude,

pershin:

it's so far away. Like he literally just wa just

jason:

looked back it. Okay. You look back on the Vikings, it's like, what a whiff it is on JJ McCarthy to have Sam Darn just light it up the year before Move on, lights it up in Seattle and this guy is just peddling around.

pershin:

Yeah, and even once the couple games before his shoulder fell off or whatever happened, looked completely fine in this offense. I mean, every, everyone knows that this, this KOC offense is quarterback friendly. It's easy to pad the stats as a QB in this offense, and the fact that he's not doing it. And you know, you're looking at him, he, he looks like he's got really poor footwork. It looks like he doesn't know where to go with the ball. He is not reading the field fast enough, and he's late on a lot of these throws. He's extremely inaccurate on a lot of these throws. And it's just, I mean, it's a lot. I mean, it's just, this is basically like Anthony Richardson type territory where you're like, well. He has a long way to go. And so is the, are the Vikings gonna be willing to keep putting him out there so that he could get the experience necessary for the next two, three seasons while he sucks ass? Probably not.

jason:

No. No either. I mean, they're gonna, they're gonna have to get rid of players. They're

pershin:

probably gonna be looking for a solution.

jason:

If they do that,

pershin:

they're, they're probably gonna be looking for a solution at, at quarterback this office.

jason:

Yeah. Hey man, you know, maybe Kirk Hudson says will be out there.

pershin:

Kirk Cousins has to prove that he could actually throw the ball down the field again. I, Kirk Cousins is so sad, like, it, it, in that Panthers game, it, it looked like he was throwing like through water. It like every pass. You know what it reminded me of? I like, I, I'm a courier, right? Like I, I deliver a lot of packages. Day in, day out, right? A lot of times, every now and then you see like a, like a family outside, like a father throwing a football to a son or something, right? And these are just normal people, right? So you can see'em like wind up and gear up and they're like, go long and, and long is really just to the mailbox or the other side of the front yard or whatever, and they kind of gear up and it's like, oh, it didn't, doesn't go very far. It doesn't have much velocity on it. Kirk cousins look like a normal, so you're saying person where he's just like, who he looks like how he dresses, putting his whole body into it. Well, he wears big, big gold chains, brother. Have you not seen this?

jason:

Right? He, so he plays football like he works at Cole's.

pershin:

He throws a football, like he, he's throwing one of those Olympic javelins like really winding up and then it, it just doesn't have much on it. You're, you're like, oh, he's about to throw this way down the field, and it's like, oh, nope. No, this is. This is five, five yards down the field. And it's like, bro, it, I, he, he needs to prove that he could actually throw some philosophy. Well, on

jason:

the other side of the field, he's done. So I'm afraid players weren't looking so great. I mean, swift had a decent game, but, you know Monge ate up the touchdown. Caleb Williams didn't complete. They act, him and JJ McCarthy actually had the same amount of attempts and completion. 16 for 32. He just didn't turn the ball over. Yeah, I mean, really the difference in this game is JJ McCarthy threw two picks.

pershin:

Well, a and Caleb Williams had some really bad drops. Luther Bird had two different, like right here on my numbers drops. That's like, bro, brother, you gotta, you gotta catch those. The Caleb Williams when he was missing or not connecting with his receivers. It was at least like, oh, almost. Whereas with JJ McCarthy, it's like, what the fuck was that? So like on the stat sheet, I'm sure it looks similar, but it wasn't. Yeah. Right. Right. Jj. JJ McCarthy is basically in a rich territory right now. I'm fucking Tim. T. T Territory right now. I'm McCarthy I'll,

jason:

I'll say Caleb Williams. I was just saying he didn't, he wasn't lighting it up either.

pershin:

No, he wasn't. That's why I said the Bears keep getting lucky. Yeah. They didn't deserve to win this.

jason:

And then another team that probably didn't deserve to win their game, the Green Bay Packers they beat the Giants 27 20, you know, right at the ship. Josh Jacobs went down with a little bit of an injury. Jordan Love went down for a like three or four plays. I know it was weird. Like he, he, he made a run. He took a hit to the shoulder, he gets up, seems to be fine. And then the referee seems to talk to him. He actually

pershin:

goes to the locker room. Yeah, the,

jason:

well the referee talks to him, so then he goes over to the blue tent and then he goes through the locker room. Malik Willis on the other hand, just comes out, you know, another day at the office. Let's go get a touchdown guys. And you know, just absolutely balls for five plays. They look very

pershin:

calm. Malik. Yeah. Malik Willis actually looked very calm. Like, he's like, yeah, I got this. No problem. Yeah. So I thought that was cool. Green Bay, just pay

jason:

him whatever you need to keep him as a backup. Always like.

pershin:

Yeah, you see, you see like week in, week out, just how important it is to have a viable backup. And it's, it's a huge difference right now for these teams that are having to put in booty ass cousins and Andy Dalton and these guys that can't play anymore. So

jason:

what frustrated me about this game the most is Green Bay. It is receivers, man. Our receivers are all love made. So many throws. I at least counted six drops. Six drops on my own,

pershin:

bro. It was like on the hands on the money. Exactly. I was gonna, I was gonna say like I official charting has it at six drops for the Green Bay Packers offense. What's wild is four drops. On the defense as well. Y'all had four different interceptions that you should have had. Jamis

jason:

was trying to give us ball on top of that final interception that you, James was trying give us the ball, man. He really wanted us to have it.

pershin:

He was trying to, you guys were just like, no,

jason:

I'm

pershin:

not. I'm

jason:

not doing it. And then we waited till the end, man. You know, it is what it is. But the thing is, is like our drops come at crucial times where like Romeo drop drops, drops it on like a. Crucial third down, and then you've gotta throw some Yolo ball to Savion Williams, which I, how he comes down with it. I don't, I don't understand.

pershin:

Start playing Savion. Uck. I'll dude, serious tell you. And then he's made some big plays throughout the year without even playing time. I'll tell you this.

jason:

Luke Musgrave, as much as I like him, he a Tucker Craft.

pershin:

Boy cl clearly the coaches don't think so, man. They got fucking other dude playing. Playing. Who was that? Fitzpatrick playing. Both of them had drops playing and

jason:

yeah,

pershin:

Wiley, they got, they got some Wiley guy. It basically like. A three-way split, like about 30 to 35% for each of them. So Luke Musgrave isn't even, I mean, he's just another dude on the depth chart. Dude, it's, it's unfortunate considering he was supposed to be hot shit coming out, but you know. Oh, but yeah, I mean. Get, get well soon. Tucker Craft,

jason:

you know, maybe that Malik Willis was what we needed because after he came in, scored that first touchdown, the boys were humming for the most part on offense. Jordan Love came back in, had two more touchdowns. You know, and I mean, he didn't have like a great day, but he didn't have a terrible, I mean, if you don't count the six drops, he went 19 for 24. So on the stat sheet, you know, it wasn't terrible and that's about how this game looked. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. And I need to see a little bit more out of this team when it comes to the next set of games, because they have Vikings, lions, bears, oh my Broncos Bears, Ravens, Vikings. So. We, you know, we've basically got our entire division ahead of us, except for two games, and they're two defensive minded teams. So offense is gonna be tested.

pershin:

Yeah, yeah, for sure. Would be a good time to start catching.

jason:

Yeah. Yeah. I don't wanna, I don't wanna see us out there losing to fucking Bo Nicks. Speaking of, speaking of those, you really don't. Great segue into losing to Bo Nicks, you know, who else loses to Bo? Nicks them all. Great Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes, which dude, Romo could not, I mean, could not, I mean, dude, Mahomes made a very average. Throw, throw. He is made a million times throw that everyone has seen be made a million times. And, and Romo was just like, oh my God. Mahomes. Mahomes is just magical. He's the only one that could do that. And then like, I swear, like a whole, like another series later, Bo Nicks does the exact same thing. Nothing. No, no. Praise for Bo next.

pershin:

Yeah. I mean, I,

jason:

this is a big time win for y'all.

pershin:

Honestly, this was a good win. This was a good win. The, the pass rush showed up once again, I. I was wondering if it was going to work, to be honest with you, I was wondering if it was gonna work against the Chiefs.'cause oftentimes, Mahomes is really good at finding the hot route, and it, if you get there quickly, then that just means you just got shit on quickly. Like so I, I was, I was really glad to see that they, they really clamped down on rash rice like you could see. Yeah. Like you could literally see the direction that Mahomes is looking at the very. Beginning of his drop back and it's like he wanted to go to Rashid, right. So we just did a really good job of making sure Rashid right was covered. I mean, we kind of were leaving Kelsey wide ass open a lot of times, but still the, the fact that he really wanted to go down the field to take shots down the field with worthy, and he really wanted to go over the middle of the field with rice and we were shutting his favorite options down, I feel like. And it worked. It, it really worked, and we were able to get the pressure there. Come up with some big time sex and you know, they basically did the Atlanta Falcons thing where they said, okay, we're going to completely shut down the run game and we're gonna make bow Nicks beat us. And I think what they were saying was like, basically eventually bow Nicks is gonna make a mistake and turn the ball over. And I was very happy to see that Bo Nicks actually did make some really good passes down the field under pressure and. Although it was still an up and down game, it was mostly good play, which is much better than the rest of the season where it's been basically every single game has been bad play until exclusively the fourth quarter. And so it's like. It, it was good to see it was, it was a little more consistent from him. Some of the passes he made toward the end of the game were not only really clutch and absolutely needed, but they were also dimes, like really good passes. So it was a good win. It was a good win against a tough team.

jason:

You know, a game like this kind of makes you wonder, you know, Broncos kick a field goal to win it at the end there. It kinda makes you wonder if the chiefs have made that trade for Brie Hall. Had, could they have snuffed this game out

pershin:

would've been just the little bit mm-hmm. That they needed. You know, one thing that I thought about while, while this game was going on is that like, it could have easily been a much different game if Mahomes had actually hit on one or two of these long shots. Yeah. That he was going for, he actually had both Worthy and Taquan Thornton and like. Third person, I think I'm forgetting. He had at least Hollywood, like four different guys that were open that he took a shot on down the field, like way down the field. And this used to be like a real strength of Mahomes. This the first few seasons in the league was that downfield passing was so pinpoint that it was, it was shocking and it was really it, you know, helpful for them. But the thing is like the past couple seasons, and especially this season. He's been off with the long ball. He has not been good. He's literally, I don't just mean like, oh, he's not as good as normal Mahomes. I mean, like he's below average and it's costing them, they're leaving big plays on the field that you, you think, you feel like early in his career he was hitting all the

jason:

time. Yeah. Yeah.

pershin:

You know, so easily been a different game if he would've hit some of those that you kind of expect him to. But I think low key, like. We probably shouldn't expect him to because he really hasn't. And you know, maybe some of it has to do with his wide receivers are on the same page with him. But I mean, it's been happening for two seasons in a row now. I don't think it's that. I think that he really is, you know, not as good down the field as it used to be. Interesting, interesting.

jason:

So let's talk about the Lions and the Eagles. This is an interesting game. It was a very low scoring game, 16 to nine. But I'm sitting here looking at Detroit. There's six and four. You know Jared Goff, hasn't he? He's been good, you know, hasn't been great this season. Jamir Gibbs has really been the best player on this team, and you're looking at the receiving core. And you're just kind of like, man, there's, there's some pieces missing here. And it starts to make you wonder what kind of moves is, I mean, they're very much in the hunt right now, but I could see them on the outside looking in as far as it comes to the playoffs depending on how the next couple weeks shake out for them. And you started to wonder, is Jared Goff gonna, is, are they gonna make a move with either Goff or David Montgomery too? Try to get some wide receiver help because to me, I, I'm not impressed with their wide receiver core. I mean, right now, I mean, their best receiver was Jamir Gibbs in this game. You know, Jameson Williams is good. I like him. I'm on St. Brown is great. But outside of that, like, you know, you really got a couple guys that you know, need some time or they're just average. So what, what are your thoughts on that?

pershin:

Yeah, well, it, losing the port is a huge deal, right? You know, I, I think. They put him on the IR already, so he's gonna miss at least four games, maybe more. Th that is pretty rough for them because not only is, is he an amazing route runner at the tight end position, he's a, he's a legitimate threat as a receiving weapon. Right? But also he's a really good. Blocker. He's a really good run blocker. And so having, having them ha you know, they basically need to give a full-time role to Brock Wright. And, you know, it's not like Brock Wright is completely useless, but he's basically just an okay blocker and that's it. He's like an all right usable blocker, but. He sucks at doing any sort of down the field routes or any sort of, you know, shaking, guys, getting, causing separation and stuff like that. He is a big, strong guy that they could probably use at the goal line for sort of like trick plays and stuff, like various design plays that Campbell likes to do. But the thing is like. It's a huge loss and I, I, I don't think people really realize like how big a deal it is when these teams lose these all around tight ends. Like when George kettle's out, right? That's a huge drop in, not just the production that he gets through the air, but also CMCs production goes down because he can block like a motherfucker. And it's the same thing with La Porter, like the running. Takes a hit and you know, to your point, it, it really matters what happens in the next couple weeks.'cause if the, if the Play playoffs were to start today, they're actually on the out. It's actually the Niners in the seventh spot, they're in the eighth spot. And so it's like, wow. They feel like a pretty good team to not even be in there. But the thing is. They're not, they're not in there. And so you know, I, I think they really need to take a look at the mirror and be like, yo, we're not actually executing the way that we need to all the time. I, I do think they have the pieces. I wouldn't say like they've got so much lacking in the past game. Certainly. Like I said, it hurts to have the porter, but I do think they can make more things work with Ahman Raw and Jameson Williams. I do like what I've seen from them the past couple weeks since Dan Campbell has literally taken over play calling, so I kind of think that he see, he saw like the problem, like they weren't getting Jamison. Like they weren't using him in the, in that, in the ways that suit his strengths best. And so I, I think they have the right idea and they're probably going in the right direction. But you know, my biggest takeaway from this game was actually, yeah, the Eagles defense. Like, man, that defense is completely healthy and they, they are really good at, they were buyers at the trade deadline. They got Jalen Phillips and i'm forgetting his name, the guy in the secondary as well. So they both their secondary and their pass rush and now that they've got Jalen Carter and Jalen Phillips right there on the line. Man, they are causing a ton of trouble. The, the Detroit Lions offensive line is not bad, and they were making them look bad. Just that defense is serious business, and I think that they're gonna give fits to anybody that they play against. And so it'd be interesting to see what happens with the Eagles. Obviously, a lot of bad vibes with AJ Brown and Jalen hurt.

jason:

AJ Brown shouldn't be crying anymore. He got 11 targets on that, on this game.

pershin:

Yeah. He, he did have a meeting apparently with ownership just the day before the game, and he did come out and say that he promised them that he was going to stop criticizing the team on social media. So they, they must have had some sort of agreement where it's like, look, we're gonna get you the ball. Just stay off the fucking internet.

jason:

Yeah.

pershin:

So he said himself that he, he agreed to not talk shit on the internet anymore. And I, I'm like the fact that they gotta call you in and have a powwow with you to beg you to, anyway I, I'm not a AJ Brown, he got the Roger Street bill.

jason:

They both had to stay off the social medias this year.

pershin:

The, the, the defense is absolutely elite though. The, the

jason:

interest

pershin:

defense for sure.

jason:

All right. And in the last game, just kinda wanted to, it just surprised me. Jaguars Chiefs. Like, what? Like why was this an ass whooping? Like what I mean, chargers, chargers, Jaguars, chargers. Oh, you mean a Jags

pershin:

and Chargers. I don't

jason:

know why I said chiefs, but it's the works.

pershin:

They, well, they, they really exploited the offensive line, the, the. The Chargers offensive line is so sad because it coming into the season, it was one of the better ones and they've lost. All of the good pieces. And so they, they recently traded for, mm-hmm. What's his name? Trevor Penning. Tyler Penning. Trevor Penning, I think from the Saints. And he basically disappointed and it got benched with the Saints and they, they traded for him and basically said like, okay, we'll we'll see if we can make something work. Former first round pick. Maybe he, he's. He got something we can work with. They had to bench him in this game because he was so bad. And so it's just a sad situation where they keep throwing resources at the offensive line and everyone just gets hurt. So, no. Joel, all, no. What's the name? Slater? No. Their top two offensive guards are gone. They basically just got the starting center and that's it, and a bunch of dudes and, and basically the, the Jaguars just manhandled that offensive line. And so I. Sucky situation. There has been a couple games this season where Herbert has done well, despite the bad offensive line play. He's just got the ball out so quickly and made stuff work. But the Jaguars did a really good job of just sitting on those, those, like around the, the line of scrimmage, sort of like, you know, dump off sort of plays and they were just tackling them immediately when they got the ball for like two yard gains over and over again. And so, I mean, I, unfortunately, I just don't think the charges have much chance this season because that offensive line, I think Herbert's doing fine. I don't think he's playing ass or anything like that. And, and I like the receiving weapons they've got, especially now that Aronde Gadsden mm-hmm. Is kind of come outta nowhere to be a really good yak monster. I feel like Aronde Gadsden is basically like the Charger's version of what Tucker Craft does for you guys. But at any rate, I just don't think any of this is gonna matter because they've had so many injuries on both the defense and especially the offensive line. It's just. Teams are gonna be able to exploit them.

jason:

Yeah, it's a shame. It's a shame. Alright man. Well, looking forward to next week. Couple games. I'm looking at obviously the NFC North race, so I'm looking at the Steelers versus the Bears. That'll be interesting to see if Rogers still owns partial ownership of the Bears. And then. Vikings versus Packers. Packers gotta take advantage of a weak Vikings team. Michael Parsons needs to have another good game. He did have a great ending to the game last week. You know, really got in there on fourth downs, fourth quarter. And then we got a Giants versus Lions, Colts versus Chiefs Eagles versus Cowboys and Panthers versus 49 ERs. Panthers 49 ERs is a nighttime game. How about that? Anything you're excited about?

pershin:

I like it. Yeah. I am excited about this. Panthers versus 49 ERs. The 49 ERs, much like the Chargers sort of offensive line, their defense has gotten just decimated by injuries and so like low key the past, I think. Three or four weeks. They have been a very easy defense to pass on. We just saw a career backup quarterback break the NFL's record for most completions against this defense, and we got Bryce Young coming off where looks like the best game he's ever played. Can he build on that against another decimated defense? I. Think if the, if there's ever a chance to string something together and build some confidence, this might be it, you know? Yeah, yeah,

jason:

for sure. Good point. Good point. Well, that's all we got this week. I think we might take next week off, I will be in Charleston so we won't have all the recording stuff. So we'll be off next week for Thanksgiving and such. So with that being said, as always, you can hit us up on the socials pine Pony Podcast Adios. Adios.
