Most of us are in the hustle period of our life. When we get stuck somewhere, we resort to seek tips from those who are successful. Scrolling through YouTube we see all these Productivity Gurus who have guaranteed methods to make the best of your time. But we fail to understand that this is only making us burn out faster.

The tips that they are sharing is a bit generic. If not then that may or may not work for you. Its not that they are saying something wrong. But one should not take their words as the order. The order to rescue us during our hustle and ease our hard work.

Our main goal should not be to get something done faster, but to be consistent with the task and gain discipline. Listen to the full episode to know my side of the story and not burn out while hustling.

[Intro Music]

You know this is a quick one, this episode is kind of different.
This is a on-the-go recording.
So if you are not interested or you feel it's not worthwhile, so you can go ahead, skip it and listen to some other podcast.
But just hear me out.
The podcast, The Underdog Protagonist is for the people who are in the hustle period of their lives.
And when you say, when you talk about hustle, it usually means
Working a lot, taking less time for your rest and dedicating as much energy, as much stamina you have into your craft, into your work so that it shines.
And in the near four to five years down the line, you have something substantial created for your own living so that the lifestyle that you have right now has improved significantly.
That is why we are hustling right now, right?
So that the things that we will create right now will be remembered for generations to come.
Or in other words, we are trying to create a history that not many people are able to do.
It's easier said than done.

I know people are struggling a lot.
They're not enough who have enough things or who have enough sources for them to sustain a healthy career or for them to do something at the very least.
We must be grateful for being able to afford such things that make our life a little bit easier and a little bit more comfortable than others.

We as humans, we complain every day.
We have this, we have that, but we still feel a need of something else.
Let's say we bought a gaming console today, right?
But in a year or so, there's a newer version that has come out in the market.
And now we feel that we are outdated and we have this new desire to have the new version on our hands.

Now think about it.
Did that serve any benefit for us?
Or is it something that is chewing off our brain and making us a slave of our desires?
Not healthy but unhealthy desires.
So that we fall short of those 1% that we are trying to beat on one day and
The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.
Most of the people are middle class men as of now.
And for them to climb to the highest standards, they have to undergo a lot of sacrifices.
Most sacrifices fall under the category of their own happiness.
But it should not be that necessarily.
You should not sacrifice your happiness to get more money or success.
It's never about that.
I am not successful as of now, but I can vouch for that.

I'm just saying that don't chase after something that will eventually burn yourself out.
It's a hustle, I know.
But take breaks whenever needed.
You have to prioritize your mental health a bit more than you're doing right now.
Do the things that you feel like doing at the moment and do the things or maybe that we all do.
We all postpone things.
We all procrastinate things.
So do a healthy procrastination and do what your mind desires.
Then again, it should be a healthy desire.
Now, what do I mean by a healthy desire?
A healthy desire is something that promotes your growth.
In other words, let's say you do not want to work on a certain project or you do not want to, in my perspective as a designer, I do not want to work on a certain logo.
Fine, I'll keep that on hold for a couple of days and I'll work on a pattern.
I'll work on an icon or maybe something else, but not the logo at least.
So in that way, I'm giving myself a bit mental space and in turn I'm not letting myself burn
while doing something I don't like or I don't enjoy at the moment.
For sure, I like designing.
There's no denying that.
But sometimes what you like might not be enough to push yourself to the limits.
It's a very skeptical thing.
I know it's a very debatable sentence and people will question a lot.
People can attack me for it.
But I believe it's for our own good.
Because what's good if your mental health is hampered?
You want to finish a project in 7 days.
I mean, that's fine.
But what if in 7 days you go ahead deteriorating your mental health?
You can ask for an extension on the project.
You might get one.
You never know.
Unless you ask for it.
And there are some situations where you can't avoid and you can't get an extension.
And for those things, you have to compromise on your mental health.
Just for the sake of the work to be done.
That is one scenario where we don't want to end up with.
Because we want to create a living for ourselves where we are our own boss.
We are not reporting to someone but we are making decisions for ourselves.
That is what entrepreneurship is.
We want to start an agency.
We want to start a company where we are only accountable for our own actions and we are not reporting to someone else who is above us.
But that takes time.
That is what we are discussing right now.

Until we have gotten there, we need to pursue a healthy work-life balance.
We need a schedule that promotes a healthy work-life balance.
Again, it's difficult to do, but easier to talk about.
But we can just talk as of now.
Hear me out.

Fix a schedule for yourself that outlines everything, starting from your waking up time, to your bathing, to your working, and ending up with sleeping, right?
Outline everything in it and dedicate a specific time frame for all your tasks.
While you have to stick to this schedule, you have to remember, you need to keep it flexible.
Because once we are bound with a certain boundary, we limit our headspace.
We don't like to enclose ourselves inside a box.
We want our brains to open up.
That is why, keep it flexible.
I know I'm not a guru for sharing all these tips and all.
But I feel what has worked for me or what I'm trying to learn during the process of trying to build something for myself, I'm learning a few things.
And in the journey of learning, I'm sharing the knowledge because I believe
Because I believe that your knowledge multiplies when you teach or share.
And here I am trying to share my knowledge as much as possible.
And in that endeavor, I keep on learning a bit more.
I keep on understanding a few more concepts.
I do a little bit research.
That helps me internally and revises my knowledge that, oh, I knew that, but I never knew this side or I never understood this angle or this perspective of the story.
But now I know.
So all these gurus say that you need to do this, you need to do that in order to be successful.
And you are bound to do or else it won't work for you.
That is what the guarantee, right?
So you have to do this or you have to stop doing this unless you want to be successful.
That is what they bait you on.

But we fail to understand that what worked for them will never work for us.
They have different circumstances, they have a different style of living, they have different conditions.
And you may or may not have the same things going on in your life.
So how can the steps, the things that they say, will work for sure for you?
And do you know what they leverage on?
They leverage on the insecurities that we have in our lives.
They leverage their story on the situations or circumstances we are in right now.
They know we are desperate.
They know we want to earn.
They know we want to grow.
And that is what they use as a fodder for their content.

I'm not saying everyone is wrong.
I'm not pointing any fingers on anyone.
I'm just saying we need to be a little more vigilant and we need to understand, we need to differentiate who is speaking for us and who is doing this only for their self-good.
Because if they get more eyes on their content, they get more money.
It's a vicious cycle that only benefits them, not you.
They hook you on something.
And once you are there, once you have turned yourself into a recurring customer, recurring audience, recurring viewer, you end up in their form of rabbit hole, where you only listen to them and you feel their word is your order.
That is your order for productivity and growth.

As I said, I share tips to productivity, scale, and whatnot.
But I'm not saying you have to die for this once.
Even I am on same level as you are right now.
I am someone who is still learning.
I am someone who has not had a big breakthrough.
I'm not a guru.
I'm not a big entrepreneur.
I'm not a big businessman.
Just a small creator trying to make a difference in the world through this podcast.
Everyone has their story spoken when they have done something in their lives.
It's not bad.
It's not half bad.
Even the guests I call upon, they're always like, I have not done a lot of things.
I do not have a lot of achievements.
So what would I share?
What would I share that will be beneficial for your listeners?
Why would they tune in and listen to me, listen to my advices?
I'm like, you do not need a big breakthrough.
to share your knowledge.
You have knowledge that not everyone has, that everyone should listen to or be aware at the very least.
And that is enough for you to come on the show and share your knowledge, share your tips.
So don't mistake yourself as an underdog.
Because deep inside, I know you have something that will make a difference.
We just need to start working on that.
And if we are disciplined enough and if we are consistent with our efforts, I'm sure one day we will get there.

Every time I talk about one day, I have this quote in my head.
I don't know who said this, but I heard from Dwayne Johnson in one video.
I think that video got viral and everyone got to know about that quote.
He said, one day or day one.
one day or day one.
These are just two words used repeatedly while reversing the terms, but it has a deep meaning if you think about it.
If you start putting the efforts from day one, then you will get there someday.
But if you wait for that day to come in your life, that is not going to happen.
If you keep waiting, you will keep on waiting forever.
If you say, one day I'll do that.
Yeah, sure.
One day, you'll do that.
But we never know what that day will be.
If you count your days, like you mean it.
It is day one that I'm doing this.
And I'm sure on day 400, 500, 600, 1000.
One day, you will get there.
That is why you see all these TikToks and Reels getting viral, right?
They're showing their processes.
They're showing what day one is looking like right now.
And you are hooked.
You are like, I'm curious what day 26 is going to look like.
And for sure, you keep on watching their content to find out what their progress is and how they're coping up with their daily struggles because they have taken the step and you have not.
You have not in the fear of what might go wrong.
If I do this?
Or what if I fail?
But you watch upon the envy that they have done this.
They have started their journey from day one.
And now you're interested to see how that turned out.
In a way to feed our insecurity.
Because if they fail, that only settles your doubt.
That see, I was right.
That was going to fail.
Now I know I should not have done that.
And thank God I did not do that.
What if he pulled through?
What if he passed?
Now you'll be like, oh, damn it.
I knew it.
I should have done that.
I should have taken my step.
I should have taken the risk.
And if only I have done that, I would have been that person, not him.
Neither one is healthy.

I know we have gone through a roller coaster of emotions in this podcast, but I thank each and every one of you for listening to the end.
This is something that was going on in my mind because I have not been able to be productive.
And I know I'm not consistent.
That is why this productivity never comes because I know day one, bro, I'm not on day one.
I'm counting on that one day.
That is why I'm not getting there.
Even though the realization has come, I still need to go far, far long way ahead to be successful.

Thank you so much for sticking to the end.
You were listening to the underdog protagonist and I'll catch you in the next one.
Until then, take care.
