We are excited to have Dr Jordan Pitt on this episode of Tanner Talks to discuss how Allergy and Immunology specialists can help our patients

Dr Pitt, What inspired you to specialize in allergy and immunology?

Prior to becoming a board certified allergist, you did a pediatric residency, is that right?

I know I tend to shorten your description to being an allergist, but you are also an immunologist. So along with allergies, What kinds of disorders do you see in your office?

Going back to your allergy hat, Let’s talk today about some of the most common allergens you see—

Environmental allergies:

What are the most common environmental allergies here in Utah?

Is there a reason why those are most prevalent?  People often think that because they have a specific allergy, their kids will have the same. Is there any genetic tendency to the same kind of allergy?

What are the different methods of allergy testing, and what should patients expect during the testing process?

I often tell people that the value in testing and seeing an allergist is to help in making decisions.

How does testing guide treatment and what are the different treatment options available?

Let’s move into the food allergy space. What are the most common food allergies you see in your practice?

When I started pediatric 20 plus years ago it was absolute doctrine that we didn’t do peanuts before a year of age. But now we do them early to prevent peanut allergies.

So talk to us about what can be done to prevent food allergies?

What are the available treatment options for food allergy?

How are food allergies tested for and is there a difference between testing for food allergy and food intolerances?

One of the most severe and scary allergic reactions for parents  is anaphylaxis. Can you explain what anaphylaxis is and how to recognize its symptoms?

How is anaphylaxis treated?

Who needs to carry an epinephrine autoinjector?

Dr Pitt. You have done an amazing job in caring for the patients that I have sent to you.  Thank you for your great care! If somebody wants  to schedule an appointment with you how can they do that?
