Alright. So this week was my choice of film. Yes. And I had decided that you needed more Brad Pitt in your life. But I haven't seen enough. I haven't seen enough Brad Pitt.

I don't even own that one. So now you're good on that one. Good. No, we are going to watch the 2000 film Snatch. Snatch. Yes. With it stars the aforementioned Brad Pitt. Of course. Jason Jason Statham. Um and uh uh uh um Belicio del Toro, uh Dennis Farr. I was uh I always don't know how to say his last name. F-A-R-I-N-A. Farna. I think that's how you say you'll it's one you'll definitely rec recognize the face. Yeah, yeah. Uh Vinny Jones, um, which I love Vinny Jones. He's he's the best. He's so good. Um well anyway, this is this is a film written and directed by Guy Ricci. Um, and I'm a big fan of of everything that he's done from Lockstock and Two Smoking Barrels, uh, to for Snatch for the uh the gentleman. Like he's done a lot of he's done a lot of people.

Oh, that would be another good one.

Put it on the list, put it on the list. It could be coming up. Um, so this one, in my opinion, this was his big breakout film. Um, technically, Lockstock and Two Smoking Barrels would have been. Um, but for me, this was the one that really put Guy Ritchie on the map of like he is he is an amazing director. Um, and he he can do a lot, especially with stuff that that he has written himself. Um, he also does some where he he's only the director, not the writer and director. Um he did uh Sherlock Holmes. Oh he did Aladdin um as a as a director. Um he's done a he's done a bunch of a bunch of stuff. And so he just kind of he he kind of mixes up a little bit. Um uh but he he was really no so when he was coming up, he was one of those directors where he had his guys, he had his actors that he used. And so he so he used them a lot. Uh Vinny Jones and Jason Statham are definitely in that mix. Like they're they're some of his guys. And in my opinion, that's really where Jason Statham really got his big break and really started going with his career. Okay. So I feel like this is kind of like the this was kind of like helping the springboard of that to launch his career.

Um this movie is a drama.

This movie is classified as a uh suspenseful comedy drama, I think is like how it would probably be said. So it's it's a uh it's a lot of comedy. A lot of comedy.

Uh so it's because you know Brad Pitt does so well with the comedy.

I'm rolling my eyes.

I'm rolling my eyes so nobody can see me.

But see, that was the thing we talked when we talked before is that you said you did not like Brad when he did his very serious but he doesn't he doesn't do enough com he he's just got the face.

He thinks I don't know, he just stands there, he thinks he's all that in a bag of chips. I don't know. Oh, okay. I'm I'll I'll I'll have an open mind. I'll have an open mind.

Alright, just have an open open mind about it.

Yeah, but you know if he if he stands here and does the face. He'll do the I think Because he it's like he's a handsome man and he knows it.

This one he's not he's not the handsome man.

This one he's he always is the handsome man. They don't ugly him up.

Ah, he's kind of ugly up ugly up than this one. This one he's not he's not the pretty boy. Oh, I believe it when I see it.

Because they don't like to ugly up Brad Pitt. Nobody likes to ugly up Brad Pitt.

No, no, no. This one, uh this one I think is very good. And he he definitely plays more of a character in this one. And it's not it, it's not just Brad playing Brad, you know, kind of roles and stuff. But this is this one he actually he actually had to do quite a bit and do do an accent and stuff, so it's like so.

Yeah, yeah.

All right, I'll look for that. I'm really excited. Can you tell?

I'm gonna change your mind one movie at a time.

But if this is really bad, I'm ripping it apart. There you go. You know it. You know, I have no qualms about that. That that's right.

Don't hold back on that one.

Not gonna hold back. No, no, but uh, but I and I I think technically I might have started to see the beginning of this and shut it off somewhere along the line. But a long, long time ago. So I'm not completely I well, I have no idea. I don't know where to do it.

There might be a little bit you remember, but I have no recollection of the story.

And when I'm watching it, I might recognize something. But but definitely not the whole thing. Not the whole thing. Right. No, I don't and it's got Brad Pitt. You know, I'm not gonna make it through by myself. That's gonna happen. I've done that enough.

I think that I think this film might turn you around. Now, like I said, so yeah, this one's gonna turn me around. So this film is is an ensemble, and it's so it's not Brad all the time.

Well, it's I mean, you know, Oceans of Love and Hello. I don't like I don't even like him in that. And I really don't like the film that much. So I love that film. I know you do. This is where we kind of part ways.

But again, I think this is this is one I think that you might I mean you're you might enjoy the film itself. I mean, you may not you may not like Brad Pitt, you may not like his performance in this, but I think that overall this might be a film you'll enjoy. Story.

You this is the first this is not your first Brad Pitt movie that you've had me watch movie. That's correct. No. So I'm just saying, yeah.

Now, out of out of the Brad Pitt films that you have watched that I have picked, yeah, there was one that you really did like.

Was that the one where he died?

SPEAKER_01 7:21

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 7:21

Yeah, because he died. Well, he gotta do a couple funny lines and then he died.

SPEAKER_01 7:25

You liked it before them. You gotta he'd dance on like anything. Well, he was so stupid.

You know, and maybe it's not funny. It's if he's stupid. He doesn't play stupid.

Or in this in anything. That's the only movie he ever played stupid in.

Because I I think if he could play stupid like a really stupid person, but they people don't want to put him those roles, or he doesn't want to take those roles or whatever, you know.

Yeah, and now you know he can pick and choose what he wants. And so all right. Well, we are gonna go ahead and dive in and watch Snatch. Yes, we are, and then we will come back a little bit.

I uh I really had a hard time with d hearing what they were saying, understanding and part of it I know is supposed to be funny, like you're not supposed to know what Mickey Mickey's saying.

Right, right.

But I I literally had a hard time understanding what anybody was saying. Oh, um so that that was kind of hard. Um I I didn't like any of the characters.

Yeah, I just I really didn't I I kind of wanted to a little bit.

Yeah.

Uh but um in in the end, it's like no, uh, you know.

Even like Jason Satham's character?

Yeah, yeah. It it was okay, I guess. You know. But I mean, there was a lot of killing.

Yeah, there is. You know that. Yeah.

You know, uh, but uh uh no. Um no. Even the even the storyline just like no.

Oh, just not for me.

So so tell me why you like it though.

I mean maybe I mean I always like I like it because it's offbeat and you know, it's kind of it's kind of you know, kind of weird and kind of quirky, and you know, it's um I like the twists on it. Um I've watched it a lot of times, so I I do know what they're saying, and I do most I know most of what Mickey said.

I don't I would have almost had had clo closed caption on it for me. Yeah, yeah, it's because it's like what what what I I caught part of that, and that's the hard part. I I would catch like part of a sentence, but not the whole thing.

And that made it really, really hard, just kept pulling me out of it all the time.

Well, and it's because it's not only is it it's English, but it's it's like cogniz you know, kind of English too, where it's like it's it's like an ac an accent with an accent.

Yeah.

And then you got the and the pikey accent too, on top of that, which is a whole nother animal.

What? Okay. But yeah, so that but anyway, okay, go ahead. What what else do you like about him?

Um this I definitely see a lot of Guy Richie's films and like the way he works in it. Um a lot of like the the quick zoom in to people's faces. Yeah, yeah. You know, I I can I can stylistic.

I can see the um the interesting angles and the way he'd like to shoot it.

SPEAKER_01 11:00

Right. He did a lot of that that carried over into like Sherlock Holmes and stuff when he was um like there's one scene when Sherlock Holmes is fighting a guy and he punches and it's like it's slow motion like action. And it's like it's exactly it's very, very it's exactly shots. Yeah. Um so I I like I like that for me. It's it's a funny film, you know.

It's like I didn't see any humor in it. I really couldn't get get into the humor of it. I knew they were I knew they were trying they were they were trying to be funny, and there were a few like okay. But uh but yeah, no, I no, I I it was hard to get beyond the violence. Um, I mean it's it's it's like one notch down quin Quentin Tarantino. You know, you know, and Quentin Tarantino is over the top for me.

I mean most of it, I mean I did see uh Django. Yeah, and I I did I watched all the way through and I kind of I kind of enjoyed it. But uh uh but this is just like no, no, no, no, definitely not my speech. Uh didn't didn't bring me around to Brad Pitt at all. Fail on that one, but uh you know, but that's okay. I mean, because you know, I mean that's just my thing. But yeah, this is definitely your type of movie. Um and it's kind of a this is a guy's movie. You know, there's chick movies, this is a guy movie. This yeah, there's just certain people that really like this.

Um and yeah, you know, I don't know.

It's it was I don't know. I don't know.

It it definitely is it definitely is like a guy's kind of kind of comedy, a guy's kind of action where it is.

But this is the type of movie you really like. So it's interesting to watch a movie that I am really not into, but uh I'm watching it with somebody who totally is. I mean, you know, he likes this type of movie, so it's just not my it's just not your speed. No, no, I mean it wasn't I mean it wasn't super painful, and I'm not gonna have nightmares about it.

No, it was uh and that was and that's what I thought of. Yeah, and it wasn't that because I I do have those films that that would be problems for you like that, and that's why intentionally I don't pick those.

I still I still have nightmares about voices.

Well voices, yeah.

That was that was that was my over the top, yeah. So it wasn't it wasn't that type of thing, right? It's just like you know, I mean, if I had seen this in the movie theater, and I probably would have stayed till the end because I was kind of curious, okay, like how they're gonna wrap this up, right? You know, what's gonna happen? I like the dog, yeah.

The dog's funny, and I like it's like it's the funny stuff, like he swallowed the whole chew toy and then he squeaks throughout the whole film. You know, that that was kind of funny, and how the dog is cute.

The dog is like the best part, and you know, the dog, dog survives, you know.

He's like, he's like, yeah, go get the dog, and he goes running around and he goes, he loves that dog. Yeah, so it's for me. It's the quick, it's the it's the quick jabs, it's the quick, yeah, quick wit, you know, and stuff like that.

Um yeah, and it's um yeah, but but I I I I really didn't like any of the characters, so um, I guess that that's one thing for me. Yeah, um, that's you know, I mean, just the way I am that I kind of have to have a a at least a little bit of you know somebody you're pulling for a little bit. Yeah. And this one, I really was looking for the person. Who's who's it gonna be? Who's it gonna be? Well, and I just I just couldn't find him.

I thought I thought maybe it was gonna be Jason Satham.

Um yeah, I mean, you know, he he would be the closest.

Yeah, him and Tommy, yeah.

Yeah, you know, they both survived. What's good?

And I always I like it because it's like these two guys over here doing their thing, these two guys over here like doing their thing.

Yeah, and and that was almost yeah, that was a little almost a little confusing for me, especially since I couldn't understand what they were saying. Right. And so that I think if I could have understood what they were saying, that might have helped a little bit kind of helped me keep the thread going, you know, with everything. I can see that, and uh, but yeah, I mean I mean, I pretty much everybody died. I mean, you know, pretty close, you know, except for like Mickey and and you know and Jason's Jason's taste's character, you know, Tommy Tommy, yeah. That was but in the dog, yeah. Uh you know, so it's like and really, I mean, when they got killed, I'm going, good. I didn't like you anyway. I really didn't like you. I thought you were pretty creepy. Oh, yeah, the guy the boards feeding people to the pigs. Oh, oh, I wanted him to die so much so bad.

If there is the one quote unquote villain for this film, it's Bricktop. And you know it, and you you know that right away. And it's like, okay, he's the bad guy. And and I mean, I I like a lot of like like when he comes in and he just sits down and just starts telling a story, and then they're like, Okay, but who are you? You know, it's like you never tell the C you are, you just sit there and sit down and just start talking.

Well, and I was surprised. Oh, I'm Frankie, um, who's the actor that was?

So that's Blue Cio del Toro.

I was surprised he was like gone so quickly. Okay, well, he's dead.

SPEAKER_01 16:37

Okay. Yeah, he's the first one too. And it's just like, what?

SPEAKER_00 16:41

What what's happening? What's happening here? You know? Yeah. Yeah. And yeah, I just well, and I know it's supposed to be funny, like the guy who's trying to kill the Russian and the Russian will not die. And he just keeps shooting at him and shooting him and shooting him and shooting. Right. You know, and then he's still there and he comes back and he shoots him some more. You know, I mean, that is not humor for me. It's not your it's not your style of comedy. It's not my yeah, right, yeah.

Well, and see for me, I like it like when they do like the three cars uh scene that the where it throws the milk out of one and then they crash the car, Boris gets out, and then gets hit by the car in the other in the other one. And I like the way that it's shot and that how it's it's it's not done, it's not it's not done uh in sequence, it's uh intentionally in the world.

It almost reminded me of whatever that movie was that we watched, because at the end all the pieces came together.

Oh, 1114, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Yeah, I mean, which was a completely different movie, completely different style. Right. But that's what it kind of reminded me of a little bit. Oh I can see that, yeah.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Just that just that little moment reminded me of the, you know, but in that other movie, it's just like that was the whole movie, right? Yeah, which was very interesting.

But for me, I find it I find I always find it funny like Boris gets out and then he's got the bag on his head and he's trying to he's trying to like like feel around with his feet and like trying to figure out the fish. I know, it's just weird.

Bizarre. Um, but yeah, I just yeah, I no.

And then like Bully Seal tells her over and it's like he just gets he gets they back the van, they back the car into his van, and he's like, You could pock a jumbo jet in there. It's like it's too hot. It's like he smashed the car into the back. For me, it's just that's it's it's not like slapstick comedy, but it's like you know, it's on on its way to that kind of uh and a piece of it too is like um British humor. Yeah, yeah.

I don't really enjoy British humor, and I hate to say that. Uh probably because I didn't wasn't raised on it or you know, well, haven't been exposed to it enough. But yeah, so if this is British humor, then that's another reason why I don't really yeah. I mean, because but I don't know if that's really true.

I mean Guy Ritchie is uh is British and he I mean so it is it is okay.

Well then that explains a bit.

So yeah.

A bit, a bit, you know, because yeah, I just don't mm mm.

I mean uh it sucks that you know it wasn't it wasn't your cup of tea, but like you said, it wasn't it's not gonna give you nightmares. It's not like it's not the worst thing you've ever seen.

It's not really a mean movie, even though there's a lot of killing and a lot of like icky stuff going on, right? It's really not a mean movie. Yeah, I can I can tell that. Yeah, that's for sure. Yeah, but yeah, there's my recommendation. It's not a mean movie. But yeah, it's um I I'm I'm okay that I saw it because I have heard of it.

And I was a little curious.

Oh, so and like and like we said this settled that curiosity for me.

And we kind of like we kind of like being able to get those out of the way here where it's like a little bit. It's kind of it's like we could talk about it.

I mean, because there's so many movies out there, right? You know, and of course uh there there are some that you know I've seen I'm going, I don't know. This was one, yeah, I didn't think it would like it, and that's kind of right.

So well, but I I think if maybe if it was if it wasn't if it was more of an American um Engl American accents and American style. Yeah. So then it's not as heavy on the British comedy and the British accents and that. So it'd be easier to understand it if you're a little bit.

Maybe. So maybe maybe But it would still need the same amount of violence.

SPEAKER_01 20:38

Yeah.

I mean, you really have to have that if you're gonna have these mean of a characters, and these these characters were mean. The movie wasn't mean, but the characters were like well, and oh my god.

SPEAKER_01 20:48

And that's well, for me, I think that's establishing the good characters where it's like it's like, oh that guy, you don't want to cross him. He's very, very brutal. He's very he's very mean. And it's like, yeah, because it's done by a good actor, it's a good, you know, he's playing a character that you absolutely believe that. Yeah, yeah.

He's like, yeah, very intimidating.

It's like but for me, I like for Vinny Jones, it's like he's so funny in this one where it's just like he's now who is that now? Uh so he he's bullet-tooth Tony, so he's the big tall big big tall guy. Okay, and he's the guy who keeps shooting and then eventually runs out of bullets.

Um I can I can and you know, really when he was there, it's like, oh, I can tell he's a really good actor. I don't know why, but that just kind of popped in my head that it's like, oh, he's a really good actor.

He's he's one where he's he's a lot of fun to watch on screen, and it's like 'cause he's he's you know, got this big physical presence, and then there I like it when he does like something like quirky or funny or kind of it's like because it's you know, well and he's he's out there, you know, killing and hurting and whatever, and uh and he tells him just to open up the dog and he says Exactly.

But he would shoot somebody with without thinking too hard. Yeah. But you know, opening up a dog? No.

He has his morals. Exactly. Exactly.

Well, and you know, and I think when they torched his Mickey's mother's Oh, Van the caravan.

Caravan. Yeah.

I thought uh a bridge too far. That's that that's that's too far.

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 22:39

Well that was just that was just it's so nasty, and that was just too much. Too much. I was like, no.

But he you needed that event for him to be able to go through the revenge of getting back at those guys for what they did. Yeah. So it was something that extreme.

That was pretty yeah, I didn't like that.

That that's always yeah, that's that's always a rough part part of the film where it's like because then that just feels like you know, so they're they're doing some humor a little bit, and then they do that. Yeah.

Which is humorless.

And then we're supposed to go back to I don't know. I can't I I don't know. I can't. It was a it was a bumpy road. It was it wasn't a smooth ride for me. It was a bumpy road.

It was an English couple film, huh?

But but anyway, so but still, I I'm I'm glad I'm glad I saw it because I I've heard of it and now I have seen it. I watched it all the way to the end. Well, which I gotta say, the end is probably the best part, right? Totally. But then you get but you gotta do the whole freaking movie to get to the end.

It's the payoff in the end, and then it's like I love it where he's like he's like, Yeah, we found uh a half a shoe, a the squeaky toy, and an 84 carat diamond. And it's like it's I don't know.

I I laugh at this film, I think it's I think it's funny, but like you said, is it more of a guy's humor kind of well and it's a very specific humor, it's not yeah, so it is one of these you you'll either love it or hate it. Probably you'll go one way or the other. That's probably if you love it, you're gonna completely love it. This is totally for you. This is your type of movie. But if if it is not, then you're just gonna like mm-mm.

Well should you should watch it all the way through, and then you'll know if you like it or you don't. If it's a one and done or you're it's gonna be one of your favorites. Right. If you're gonna laugh or if you're not, so it is it is and it and it really what I mean. I guess I have to applaud the film because it it stuck to a certain level of whatever it was doing.
