Most companies say AI is a priority then treat it like a side project. In this episode of Built For The Game, Rob Cressy breaks down a real conversation with a company that claimed they wanted to lead in AI and then assigned it to interns. If you’re serious about growth, execution, and staying relevant, this is the wake-up call.

Real quick, before we get to the show, I've got a resource I want to share that will immediately improve the way that you use ChatGPT. Head to chatgbtconfidence.com. We've got a free five-day email course that shares our five best foundational tips, all designed around growth. Once again, go to chatgbtconfidence.com. You can't win with AI if you hand it to interns. What's good? I'm Rob Cressy, and I am coming in hot today because I've learned and experienced some things over the last two weeks that very few people in the world are privy to the information and the conversations. And one of the things that I can be a positive asset for you on your growth journey is sharing what I'm seeing and hearing and learning in the market, and certainly in the world of AI. And I'm going to choose my words very carefully here because my goal is to not put anybody on blast. But I do want to give you a candid look of what is actually happening in the market, in the world of business, and what's being said, but what action is going to be actually taken from that. So about a month ago, I had a conversation with someone who had sent me a job posting around a company looking to hire an AI coach. And I am not in the market for a job. I've been a full-time entrepreneur for the last 12 years. So that is not something that I'm entertaining. That being said, for the first time, I was like, oh, I'm curious. What are they looking for in an AI coach? And when I clicked this job posting, I looked and they literally described the last two and a half years of my life, word for word, in terms of what did they want? They wanted someone to be able to train their leadership team andor their employees to run workshops to help them be a top 1% usage in the way that they use AI. And I looked at that and legitimately, and I said this to my friend, I could do this in my sleep because I've been doing this every single day for the last two years, both with my one, my own one-on-one coaching as well as with the growth program that we have inside of Unlimited. Side note, if you are looking to be a top one percenter in the world of AI and how you use it, I encourage you to join us. Go to weareunlimited.ai. So I'm seeing this and I was like, holy smokes! For the first time, someone is putting language to the skill that I've been developing and helping clients with for the last two and a half years. So that excited me there. And I was like, well, you know what? I know that I'm not going to do this to try and get a job, but I am interested in having a conversation. So I went through the process to start to have the conversation. Boom. I get a warm introduction into this company, of which I was actually excited about because I looked into the CEO of the company and they had had several blog posts around saying we want to be in the top 1% of AI. We want to grow without uh increasing our headcount and we believe in this, and there's a massive opportunity to create impact. I was like, boom, shaka loca. This seems like the no-brainer of the century that um it can be a win-win for everybody. And being who I am, uh, I've documented my frameworks, the ways that I take clients through things, the programs. Everything's digital, everything's scalable because I know that I'm someone that I want to scale the impact that I can create with everyone that I touch. So I'd given them some of that stuff both before the call. I even created a separate um newsletter for clients only called the top 1% AI operator, where I gave an AI intelligence brief on what's top of mind, what I'm seeing in the market, the big wins my clients are having, um, and some ways to think about AI strictly for those that I work with. This was not something that I sent public facing. This was only for my clients and my strategic partners. So I was like, hey, thank you so very much. At least I'm saying this to myself, for that top 1% positioning because uh I really like the way that that sounds because it's true. And I even asked Chad GPT this and I was like, hey, Chad GPT, like um being my uh critical friend and advisor helped me understand where I'm actually at in the spectrum of how I use AI and coach and lead in the world of business. And it essentially said, Rob, you're in the 0.0001% of AI usage in the entire world. And I was like, okay, thank you for validating everything that I've known there. So there's no hyperbole when I say that I help my clients be top 1% in their AI usage. So I send them this and it's as real time and as relevant and as high profile as you can get. There's no fluff, there's no noise, there's no bloating, there's no tech overwhelm. It's just straight insights from someone who has, I don't know, 500 hours of coaching and creating in the world of AI on top of how I use this for my own business. And amazingly, 18 hours before I'm set to have the conversation with this company, I get an email that essentially says, sorry, Rob, uh, we've had a shift in strategy. And instead of trying to find someone to help be an AI coach, what we're going to do is put two interns on this. Um, we will keep your information on file. And upon seeing this, I laughed because of so many different facets. And this is where um I want you to pay attention to sort of some of the language and the framing of what I'm about to share. Because here is a company saying we want to be top 1% in AI usage, we want to grow without increasing our headcount. We've got a CEO who is all about this, who actively writes and shares on all of this. I'm like, boom, let's do this. And then their answer is you know what? We're just gonna put two interns on this instead. And in my mind, the light bulb that immediately went off was how many companies and people are out there right now preaching one thing and then living another. And I'm experiencing um AI adoption on a daily basis. The number of conversations I have with people who are not yet clients, people who are clients, people who are in our community, there's very few people in the world who are operating at this level and this volume that I am in the way that we're creating with AI. And it actually gave me a ton of confidence to see this. Because if this is what a company who is at the top of the food chain is saying and then not doing, holy smokes, Batman, is there gonna be a massive opportunity for those of us who practice what we preach? Because this is nothing new for the social media era. It is super easy to claim that you are going to be something. We want to be a top 1% AI company. Cool, I get it. And remember, there's no judgment here. I get it. There's probably some things I just don't understand about their business for why they decided to change their strategy. But nonetheless, from where I sit, I had the solution to their problem that they so articulately laid out in terms of what they were looking for and someone who could help them create this next level of being a top 1% in the world of AI. And then the second thing that legitimately both made me laugh as well as sick to my stomach was the term we will keep your information on file. I laugh because I can't even tell you the last time somebody said keep your information on file to me. And it made me sick to my stomach because that is not the world that I play in. I'm someone who is a relationship builder. I'm a connector, I'm someone who wants to create a positive impact with every single person that I meet. And conversation is central to everything that I do. When you enter my world, we enter through conversation because that's where we can actively co-create together. And one of the things that's challenging for someone like me who builds in public, who wears their heart on their sleeve, who is willing to be vulnerable, who's willing to help, who's willing to share, who's willing to give you anything I've ever created there, is to have someone not meet that standard and show up the same way to where they don't even want to have the conversation. And that's just incongruent to the way that I sit and operate. And it's also why there is oftentimes such a challenge or struggle in working with a corporate America because of things like this. Because one of the things that I love about entrepreneurship is the people. We are fast, we're nimble, we're creative, we make things happen that we don't have to go through red tape, we don't keep your information on file, things like that. No, we're candid, we have conversations, boom, let's make that stuff happen. And in the AI era, connection in relationships and human first is going to win. But at the same time, there's a few other things that are going to win. Number one, experience. You're gonna hear the terms AI fluency and AI literacy a bunch. And I've even shared this on the show before around how do you know when you know what you're doing with AI? You cannot fake that because AI fluency and AI literacy is about one thing: experience. You know what two interns cannot do? Share with you experience on 500 hours of coaching clients around AI. They can do a bunch of research on tools and say this is what you should be using and why. But they do not have that earned confidence, that lived experience. And that is the special sauce that separates those of us who are great from those of us who just say they want to be great. Because uh this AI era is not hard, it really is not. It's super fun, it's super creative, and there is endless possibilities. All you have to do is be willing to do things that nobody else is, and more specifically, just take action. And there's just so many people and companies out there right now who are playing small. That's right. They are playing small, they're playing small in their vision, they're playing small in their identity, they're playing small in their language, and most importantly, they are playing small in their action. And when I hear all of those things, remember, I'm a champion for everybody. I want the absolute best for you, and I'm gonna do everything that I can to help you. But I can't help but sit back here and say, well, this is actually very good for business because all those people and companies who are saying one thing and doing another thing, well, they're not gonna make the progress that those of us who are actually living and doing this are going to make. And there is one bow of a victory that I did get from this on top of what I shared, was actually the language of what they talked about on this posting for what they were looking like. Because I got so much confidence when I saw holy smokes, there's actually a massive company that's out there that is exactly looking for someone to do what I do on the highest level with scale. Like I said, not trying to get a job. I'm here to serve, I'm here to help. But with that, I was able to refine my own positioning for what the market wants. And it doesn't matter that the market didn't end up wrapping a bow on this. That's okay. They helped give the framing and the language of the offering of what it is that they would want for someone in that position. And the good news for me is well, I was already doing all of that, so I was very thankful to see all of this. So, to wrap a bow on this for you, in terms of what I would take away from this, audit yourself and ask yourself, where do you want to be in this AI era with your growth and with your business? And are your actions matching your words? And no, you do not have to be an AI expert. You do not have to be a coder, you do not have to have a tech background. Instead, I want you to think about your relationship to this, your integrity with this. Because what I like to say is place your bets and let the chips fall where they may. There's gonna be those of us who say, Hey, I see where things are going, and what I am doing is the best I can to share with you this is what I'm seeing on a daily basis. And then there's those who are gonna say, you know what? I hear about AI replacing jobs and the robots are taking over. And how about I make a LinkedIn post about I can tell you use Chat GBT to write that post because there's an M-dash. And oh my God, LinkedIn's so bad right now because that's all everybody does is they use Chat GPT, but I can tell you that because I'm the grammar police. And I see that, and I'm like, oh my God, you people are providing even less value in your post about how you can tell everybody else, throw that in the trash. And my encouragement for you is create that relationship with yourself in this era where you live into your actions of what you want to do. And for this, if you want to be a top 1%, make that vision happen and live up to it. But the rest of the market, and this is probably gonna be an 80-20 rule, and it's probably 90-10, so much of the market is false. What you see and what they are saying is not real because I'm experiencing it on a regular basis. And I would love to hear from you. Did anything that I say today cause you to think or take action? Or what is your role in this AI era and how are you integrating this into your business? You can hit me up on all social media platforms at RobCresy.
