After ushering my daughter off to her new life chapter, my house fell silent and an overwhelming sense of emptiness, mingled with accomplishment, washed over me. It was from this empty nest that I found the inspiration to encourage others to celebrate themselves, their achievements, and the skills they've acquired throughout their journeys. Thus, begins a new series called 'Putting Yourself First.' I share my experiences in this period of transition, from leading a Girl Scout troop to coaching my daughter to her Gold Award, reminding you to acknowledge your growth and accomplishments.

In this episode, I mention a FREE four-video training series I created that will help you develop a sense of what's next for you.

So, have you ever paused to celebrate yourself after achieving a significant milestone? This discussion illustrates the importance of such a celebration, and how it can positively impact your outlook on future endeavors. I delve into the importance of celebrating personal achievements, using the experience of my daughter leaving home to kick off this reflective conversation.

Additionally, I introduce a complimentary video training series, 'Put Yourself First', designed to encourage you to reflect on their lives, prepare for the next chapter, and most importantly, celebrate themselves.

Speaker 1:

Welcome back to. Every Day a New Thought. I'm your host, thor Chalgren, and each weekday I share new thought perspectives. Today I want to talk about celebrating Yesterday. I started a four-part series to celebrate back to school. I'm calling this series Put Yourself First.

Speaker 1:

Yesterday, I shared my own perspective as an empty nester parent. It was five years ago. I was an empty nester for the first time, and now I kind of am again. My daughter, who was here with us after graduating, has now left home, this time most likely for good. So our house is empty again.

Speaker 1:

As I said yesterday, now is the perfect time to put yourself first. The question is what are you going to do? As I mentioned yesterday, I started by making a decision. One of the challenges in deciding to move forward is that once we decide, we can be so anxious to move forward that we don't pause even for a moment to celebrate what we just did. So that's my message for today Celebrate, party.

Speaker 1:

If you're at some crossroads in life where you've just accomplished completing a long journey, stop, pause and take a moment to celebrate what you just accomplished. There are two reasons why. First, you need to celebrate you If you have kids that graduated and have left the house. I bet you had a graduation party for them to celebrate them, and of course you should do that. But what about you? Did you have a party for you? You celebrate. You did this monumental thing raising a kid. That's worthy of celebrating. So you should celebrate this however you want, so that you give yourself that pat on the back Could be a party, a weekend away, a long trip, something where you get to celebrate you. The second reason you should celebrate is so that you can really remind yourself of what you achieved.

Speaker 1:

I think it's great to make a list, literally write out the things you're good at, whatever skills that you acquired in this phase of your life. Write them down. For me, if I was writing this down, I'd list things like I started a Girl Scout troop from scratch. I became a trained soccer referee. I was president of the band boosters in middle school. I was president of the cheer boosters in high school. I coached my daughter to help her get to her Girl Scout Gold Award. Those are all the things I did. If I listed those out, I'd begin to see all the things that I had accomplished in this life. So I recommend that you make a list of your accomplishments during this time that you've just wrapped up. You might be surprised when you see it and writing all the amazing things that you did and that you are capable of now.

Speaker 1:

So, as a reminder, I put together a video training series called Put Yourself First. It's free. It's four videos, one every day, followed by a short exercise. I think it's a great way to pause, to reflect and then be able to move forward with the next chapter in your life. So when you're done celebrating, go check it out.
