[INTERVIEW] TRANSCENDING FAT PHOBIA: Reclaiming Body Trust: A Path to Healing & Liberation with Author, Speaker, and Educator Dana Sturtevant
In next week's episode, I talk with my friend Dana Sturtevant. Dana Sturtevant, M.S., R.D. (she/her) is the co-founder of the Center for Body Trust and the co-author of the book Reclaiming Body Trust: A Path to Healing and Liberation. As a registered dietitian, she helps people divest from diet culture, explore what it means to be embodied, and move toward more compassionate forms of radical care.
Her work as a speaker, educator, and trainer focuses on humanizing health care, advancing health equity, and advocating for food and body sovereignty. For the past 20 years, Dana has trained thousands of healthcare providers in Motivational Interviewing.
As a sought-after speaker and writer, Dana is a champion for weight-inclusive models of care and offers supervision, training, and consultation to help professionals and healthcare organizations.
In this episode, we talk about the book she co-authored, Reclaiming Body Trust: A Path to Healing and Liberation, and also about Transcending Fat Phobia. We’re going to unpack some of this with Dana to help us reclaim our body trust and liberate us all.
Tune in as Dana, and I talk about:
- Dana's story to doing the work she does in the world.
- The Path to Body Trust and how there's a lot more to unlearn than there is to learn.
- What comes between you and being at home in your body.
- How Systems, Politics, and personal things impact how we feel about our bodies.
- Breaking down the Three Phases of Body Trust: The Rupture, The Reckoning, & The Reclamation.
- Where did the first Rupture happen when you stopped trusting your body.
- Reckoning with ourselves and what we will no longer accept with our body stories to reclaim ourselves.
- Reclaiming desire, pleasure, and movement.
- Is it possible to rebuild trust with food, self, and body?
