1 Peter Chapter 1

Julie Calio Season 60 Episode 1

In today's lesson, we learned that Peter, one of Jesus' 12 disciples, is now likely in Rome, and that he used the term "Babylon," so as to disguise his true location from the Romans. He is writing to believers, probably both Jews and Gentiles, who live in the area of modern day Turkey. The purpose of this letter is to encourage believers to be faithful in the midst of persecution, because we have a living hope, that will be fulfilled at the revelation of Jesus Christ. It is through God the Father, who sent Jesus the Son to be our sacrifice for our sins, and now with the Holy Spirit, we are born again when we believed, we are in the process of being saved which is also called sanctification, and we will be fully saved at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Since we have this precious gift of faith, we are be obedient and live in such a way that we honor the Lord. We are called to be holy, as God is holy. This gift of salvation endures forever because the enduring word of the Lord continues forever.
