The great-granddaughter of Charles Austin Miles said once that the hymn "was written on a cold, dreary day in a cold, dreary and leaky basement in New Jersey that didn't even have a window in it let alone a view of a garden.
From Miles imagination to one of the most beloved gospel hymns of all time, it became a vessel of prayer for me in another basement far from home.
