Before the Eclipse — The Field Is Prepared

Monday, August 10: Venus in Libra trines Pluto in Aquarius and opposes Neptune in Aries. 

Deep encounter becomes possible in the relational field. The kind of connection that touches something beneath the surface and reorganizes rather than merely confirms. Venus opposing Neptune brings emotional porousness and openness to what the collective imaginal field is carrying. Together these contacts prepare something in the relational field for what the eclipse will seed.

Tuesday, August 11: Mars enters Cancer. Mercury in Leo opposes Pluto and trines Neptune in Aries. Venus in Libra trines Uranus in Gemini. 

A significant day of preparation. Mars entering Cancer moves the instinctual force from mental agility into feeling-body intelligence, acting from attunement, protecting what it loves, moving from ancestral knowing. In Cancer, Mars will quickly activate Saturn and Neptune in Aries, bringing instinctual protective intelligence to bear on what communities genuinely need in order to survive and flourish. In a time when shared meaning and collective care are under pressure, this is Mars in Cancer making itself known.

Mercury opposing Pluto asks what truth, spoken from genuine conviction, carries the power to reorganize rather than merely inform. Mercury trine Neptune opens the creative voice to something larger than the personal. Venus trine Uranus completes the preparation, something genuinely new becoming possible in how connection forms.

Wednesday, August 12: Total solar eclipse at 20 degrees of Leo. Mercury in Leo sextiles Uranus in Gemini. 

A solar eclipse seeds a six-month arc of development. This one falls on the South Node in Leo, asking for release and integration of what has been organized around personal recognition and individual performance, so that what is genuinely creative can be offered more freely in service of the collective becoming the North Node in Aquarius is calling toward.

Jupiter has been amplifying the Leo field for weeks. The solar eclipse moves through that field, asking that the generosity, warmth, and creative aliveness Jupiter has been cultivating be offered not in service of the personal story but in service of something larger.

Watch what surfaces in collective life around this eclipse window. Eclipse seasons often bring what has been operating in shadow into sudden undeniable visibility. Mercury sextiling Uranus on the same day brings a quality of sudden mental clarity, a shift in understanding that may be one of the most durable gifts the eclipse carries.

Thursday, August 13: Mercury in Leo sextiles Venus in Libra. 

The creative voice and the relational field in warm easy alignment. What was seeded at the eclipse finds its first point of genuine human contact.

Saturday, August 15: Mercury conjuncts Jupiter in Leo. 

A genuine arrival. What has been understood becomes meaningful. What has been articulated finds its larger significance. The creative voice offered in service of something beyond the personal finds its fullest most generous expression.

This solar eclipse opens a portal that closes with a companion lunar eclipse, the Full Moon at 5 degrees of Pisces on August 27. What is seeded on August 12 will be illuminated and begin its first completion on August 27. Between the two eclipses, a compressed arc of development unfolds. This week carries one of the most significant astrological events of the year, a total solar eclipse at 20 degrees of Leo And I wanna focus it as the center of this week's podcast because that's where it belongs, at the center, as the gravitational field around which everything else this week is orbiting. So I also wanna say how I'll move through this episode a little bit differently than I usually do. There are many cycles this week, and they are genuinely significant over several days. Rather than walking them strictly in a date sequence as I often do, I really want to talk about the eclipse first as the core of the week, and then name the supporting cycles that prepare you for the eclipse and also help you to begin to integrate what comes after Recognize this is not only a personal transformation moment, it is a collective initiatory threshold as we have been going through so many. And in a time when so much is breaking down and so much is being born simultaneously, that distinction matters. So let's get on to the fuller picture On Wednesday, August 12th, there is a new moon total solar eclipse at 20 degrees of Leo. On that same day, Mercury in Leo sextiles Uranus in Gemini. A total sol- solar eclipse is not an ordinary new moon. New moons seed a monthly cycle. Solar eclipses seed a six-month arc, sometimes longer. They mark genuine threshold moments in the unfolding of collective and personal development. The themes activated at a solar eclipse will be recognizable and developing through the following months, often culminating around the companion lunar eclipse and beyond. This particular eclipse falls at twenty degrees of Leo. For those of you who know how to look at this in your chart, you can do that, but don't worry about it if you don't. And it falls on the newly activated Leo-Aquarius nodal axis. Now, the north node is in Aquarius for the next eighteen months, and the south node is in Leo. The eclipse itself falls on the south node side in Leo. This is important. A south node eclipse asks for release, for integration, for the conscious composting of what has been serving the ego story rather than the collective field. In Leo, that invitation is very specific. What has been organized around personal recognition, individual performance, the need to be seen and validated? What of that is ready to be genuinely released so that what is alive and creative in you can be offered more freely in service of something larger? This is not about diminishment of the individual. It's a clarification of what the individual gift is actually for Now, Jupiter has been moving through Leo already, expanding the field of creative expression and authentic visibility. This eclipse does not conjunct Jupiter, but it moves through the field Jupiter has been amplifying for weeks. The generosity, the warmth, the genuine creative aliveness that Jupiter in Leo has been cultivating. The eclipse now asks that these qualities be offered not in service of the personal story, but in service of the collective becoming that the North Node in Aquarius is calling us toward In the collective field, this eclipse lands in a moment of extraordinary pressure and reckoning. The three great astrology cycles we've been tracking in the last couple of podcasts have to do with the revolution in mind and communication, about the unfinished work of power and identity, and the dissolution of old structures of collective meaning. All of these three big cycles are still actively in motion. The New Moon eclipse does not pause them. It seeds a new chapter within them Pay attention to what surfaces in collective life around this eclipse window, in leadership, in cultural conversations, in the visible expression of who is being centered and who is being asked to step back Eclipse seasons often bring what has been operating in shadow into sudden undeniable visibility. Not always comfortably, but always with the precision of genuine initiation Mercury sextiling Uranus in Gemini on the same day adds a quality of sudden mental clarity to the eclipse field. An insight arrives, a connection forms that had not previously been possible. The revolution in mind and communication, the big Neptune-Pluto Gemini cycle we're in, is briefly and electrically present in the moment of the eclipse seeding Pay attention to what you understand differently in the days around this eclipse. That shift in understanding may be one of the most durable gifts the eclipse carries for you So now let's look at the cycles happening before the actual eclipse midweek. I see them as preparing the field On Monday, August 10th, Venus in Libra trines Pluto in Aquarius and opposes Neptune in Aries. Two days before the solar eclipse, Venus moves through contacts that open and prepare the relational and imaginal field. Venus trine Pluto brings the relational field into easy alignment with the transformer. Deep encounters become possible, the kind of connection that touches something beneath the surface, that reorganizes rather than merely confirms With Venus in Libra and Pluto in Aquarius, this trine carries a quality of genuine meeting across difference. The recognition of the other, not as mirror or threat, but as genuinely particular, carrying something the relational field needs. That same day, Venus opposing Neptune brings the longing for genuine beauty, genuine connection, genuine belonging into direct tension with the dissolver. There may be a quality of emotional porousness here, of the relational field thinning its boundaries and becoming more open to what the collective imaginal field is carrying. If you can, hold both. The depth of Pluto and the openness of Neptune together are preparing something in the relational field for what the eclipse will seed On Tuesday, August 11th, Mars enters Cancer for about six weeks. Mercury in Leo opposes Pluto in Aquarius and trines Neptune in Aries, and Venus in Libra trines Uranus in Gemini. Whew. A significant day, the day before the new moon eclipse carrying its own considerable activation The cauldron is being stirred here, my friends. Mars enters Cancer, where it will remain through late September. The instinctual force moves from Gemini's rapid mental agility into Cancer's feeling body intelligence. Mars in Cancer acts from attunement rather than speed. It protects what it loves. It moves from ancestral knowing, from the gut, from the place in the body that knows before the mind catches up And once in Cancer, Mars will quickly activate Saturn and Neptune in Aries, the structurer and the dissolver, bringing the instinctual and protective force of Cancer into direct relationship with both the reality principle and the imaginal field This is the ancestral and community protection dimension of Mars in Cancer In a time when so much that has been held in common, shared meaning, collective care, the felt sense of belonging to something larger than the individual is under pressure or actively being dismantled. Mars in Cancer brings the instinctual body's protective intelligence to bear on what genuinely needs tending and defending, but not through aggression, through fierce, grounded, feeling-based care Watch in both your personal field and the collective field for the protective instinct rising around what communities and people actually need in order to survive and flourish. This is Mars and Cancer making itself known. On the same day, Mercury and Leo opposes Pluto and Aquarius. This brings the creative voice into direct confrontation with the transformer. What needs to be said that cuts beneath the surface? What truth spoken from genuine conviction carries the power to reorganize rather than merely inform? Also, Mercury trine Neptune in Aries brings vision and inspiration alongside that confrontation. The creative voice finding access to something larger than the personal. The imaginal field opening through Leo's warmth and generosity into something that wants to move through the speaker rather than simply from them. And then finally, Venus trining Uranus in Gemini completes the relational preparation. Here, the relational one is in easy flow with the awakener, the maverick. Something genuinely new becomes possible in how connection forms and what it can carry. The day before the eclipse, the entire field, relational, instinctual, communicative, imaginal, is activated and open And then the cycles just after the eclipse, perhaps supporting you in the beginning of integration, and noticing how the eclipse changes are landing for you. On Thursday, August 13th, Mercury in Leo sextiles Venus in Libra. The creative voice in the relational field in easy, warm alignment. What was seeded at the eclipse begins its first integration. The heart that wants to speak, and the relational intelligent that knows how to meet another, these two find each other with grace today. Conversations that carry genuine warmth and creative and aliveness. The voice finding its right relation to the other. Something that felt large and possibly isolating in the eclipse's immediate aftermath finds its first point of genuine human contact And then finally on Saturday August 15th, Mercury in Leo is conjunct Jupiter. The communicator and the expander meet in the sign of the heart. This conjunction can feel like a genuine arrival. Mercury has been moving through Leo's territory, making contacts with Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, Venus, gathering and integrating the full field of what this week has carried. Now it meets Jupiter, the meaning maker. What has been understood becomes meaningful. What has been articulated finds its larger significance. The creative voice at the eclipse asked to be offered in service of something beyond the personal. Mercury conjunct Jupiter in Leo gives that offering its fullest, most generous expression This is a good day for speaking or expressing what has clarified for you, for writing, for teaching, for the kind of communication that knows it is a part of something larger than the personal story, and is willing to be seen in that service Now a little bit about what we often call the eclipse portal, and what's coming soon. This solar eclipse, new moon, does not stand alone. It opens a portal that closes with a companion lunar eclipse, a full moon at five degrees of Pisces on August twenty-seventh. What is seeded on August twelfth will be illuminated and begin its first completion on August twenty-seventh. Pisces now adds the imaginal, the collective unconscious, the dissolution of what still stands between us and what is genuinely emerging. Between the solar eclipse seeding and the upcoming lunar eclipse revelation, a compressed arc of development unfolds. Sensitive people often find the two-week window between eclipses to be particularly potent. Remember to take care of yourself, to ground yourself, to notice your dreams and your intuition I'll give the August 27th lunar eclipse its own expression in a couple of weeks. For now, know that what moves in you around this week's new moon solar eclipse is not a one-time event. It is the beginning of a chapter. Let it be seated fully before reaching for its completion So I wanna give a kind of completion larger frame recap of this week. Total solar eclipse on the Leo Aquarius nodal axis happening in the field of the great, the three great astrology cycles we've been tracking this past month. Mars entering Cancer's ancestral protection intelligence, Mercury arriving at Jupiter's expansive meaning-making. This is a week that will be part of how this threshold time is eventually understood. Remember, the invitation is not only personal, it is collective, and we're always weaving those together You might notice what creative gifts, what forms of genuine expression, what ways of offering what is alive in you are being asked to move from the service of personal recognition into the service of genuine collective nourishment. That's an eclipse question, and it's not to be answered in a day or a week, but perhaps you feel it being seeded now. And the Earth, the ancestors, the long arc of the three great astrology cycles we're in, all of it is holding the seeding. Trust what is being planted now Here are three reflection questions to be with this week in support of your own integration process with the cycles. First, what does this solar eclipse on the South Node in Leo ask you to release or compost specifically around the need for personal recognition, so that what is genuinely creative in you can be offered more freely? Second, as Mars enters Cancer and moves toward Saturn and Neptune in Aries, where is the instinctual body's protective intelligence being activated in you? What community, what belonging, what people, what shared field is asking for your fierce and grounded care? And lastly, in the days around this eclipse, what do you notice is shifting in your understanding, however quiet or surprising, that feels like it belongs to the longer arc of what is being seeded now? Thank you. And the poem that wanted to come for this week is a very strong one, and I wanna actually give you a trigger warning. There's some very strong imagery of violence in it, and I think it's very necessary. And I feel this poem came forward to challenge us with that South Node Leo eclipse to let go of old patterns of the individual, of the personal, of the taking care of number one first It's big time to release that. We know that. So this poem really speaks to that, and again, you may not wanna listen to it, but I just wanna say it, it asked to be brought forward, and I deeply respect the poet, great elder, wisdom keeper. It's called A Brave and Startling Truth by Maya An- Angelou A brave and startling truth. We, this people, on a small and lonely planet, traveling through casual space past aloof stars, across the way of indifferent suns, to a destination where all signs tell us it is possible and imperative that we learn a brave and startling truth And when we come to it, to the day of peacemaking, when we release our fingers from fists of hostility and allow the pure air to cool our palms. When we come to it, when the curtain falls on the minstrel show of hate and faces suited with scorn are scrubbed clean. When battlefields and coliseum no longer rake our unique and particular sons and daughters up with the bruised and bloody grass to lie in identical plots in foreign soil When the rapacious storming of the churches, the screaming racket in the temples have ceased, when the pennants are waving gaily, when the banners of the world tremble stoutly in the good, clean breeze When we come to it, when we let the rifles fall from our shoulders and children dress their dolls in flags of truth, when landmines of death have been removed and the aged can walk into evenings of peace, when religious ritual is not perfumed by the incense of burning flesh, and childhood dreams are not kicked awake by nightmares of abuse, when we come to it, then we will confess that not the pyramids, with their stones set in mysterious perfection, nor the gardens of Babylon hanging as eternal beauty in our collective memory, not the Grand Canyon kindled into delicious color by western sunsets, nor the Danube flowing its blue soul into Europe, not the sacred peak of Mount Fuji stretching to the rising sun, neither Father Amazon nor Mother Mississippi who, without favor, nurture all creeper- creatures in the depths and on the shores. These are not the only wonders of the world. When we come to it, we, this people, on this minuscule and kithless globe, who reach daily for the bomb, the blade and the dagger, yet who petition in the dark for tokens of peace. We, this people on this mote of matter, in whose mouths abide cantankerous words which challenge our very existence, yet out of those same mouths come songs of such exquisite sweetness that the heart falters in its labor and the body is quieted into awe. We, this people, on this small and drifting planet, whose hands can strike with such abandon that in a twinkling life is sapped from the living, yet those same hands can touch with such healing, irresistible tenderness, that the haughty neck is happy to bow and the proud back is glad to bend. Out of such chaos, of such contradiction, we learn that we are neither devils nor divines. When we come to it, we, this people, on this wayward floating body, created on this earth, of this earth- have the power to fashion for this earth a climate where every man and every woman can live freely without sanctimonious piety, without crippling fear. When we come to it, we must confess that we are the possible, we are the miraculous, the true wonder of this world.
