Hello to all. Welcome to Divisa Care Network. I am Joyce Benning and I will be your host for this invigorating robust lifestyle show. I just want to take a moment and say how grateful I am for each one of the listeners that will be tuning in live today and the ones that will be listening to this podcast. You are just each and every one of you so very important to us here at Divas That Care. And you are in for such a special treat today, as I have with me a very, very special diva named Daisy. And she is one of the authors in the upcoming Divas That Care book, Our Mothers, Our Daughters, which is going to be released the first part of May. So Daisy, can I please have you introduce yourself to our listeners today?
SPEAKER_01Yes, please. I'm so honored to be in your presence. And you know what, beloved listeners? My accent is Ugandan Iowan Kaisan. But guess what? I'm still growing. I'm adding and I'm adding. So my name is Daisy the Flower. It started off as a nickname, but now it's hey, you know, full-time name. Uh Akiki and Daise are my two first names. Akiki is my tribal name, uh, meaning uh helper or up uplifter of nations. Ruchiukura Mahanga from the Toro tribe of Western Uganda. I was born and raised in Uganda, East Africa, and after a bachelor's degree in social work and administration, I came to America after teaching for a little while. I came to pursue higher education and um so I've lived in the United States for the past forty-one years. Raised children and uh attended school and worked and also I'm here. Uh my education background includes social work, as I said, community and regional planning, sociology, theology and divinity. I'm very diverse. For many years I have served as a college university professor, teaching many subjects, which include sociology, psychology, dealing with diversity, ethnic studies and women's studies. And I'm also a pastor. I'm a biological mother of four grown daughters and one adopted niece who was born deaf. I have one grown son and ten grandchildren. My primary language of communication uh languages I might say, include poetry, storytelling and drumming. I also speak seven languages, including French, Commerce World, and um I follow in the footsteps of my grandmother, who in eighteen ninety-three lost her entire family in battle. Her story was published in 2019, and I also get a lot of motivation from my mother, who was a school teacher, and the women of the village. I also draw a lot of inspiration from other women from everywhere who teach me survival skills, leadership strategies, stories that include women of all races, age groups, ethnic uh ethnicities, classes, religions, and a lot more. I believe with all my heart that sisterhood is global. Ever since I got associated with divas that care, I have been enriched, embraced with love, care, company, and a lot more. This summer I'm planning to launch my grandmother's story. I'm also working on a book on dealing with trauma. Currently I'm an author of 14 books. Now, with this poem here, what inspired me to write it? My grandmother, my mother, the village women, children and grandchildren, plus women from all nations who against all odds aspire for to make the world a better place for all. With all the chaos in the world today, we need to listen to women whose voices have been left out. And the lines that um inspire me in this poem here, or of course all the lines inspire me, but there are two of them. There is one line which says mothers and daughters create, lead, inspire and motivate. And another line, even as I speak, that's moving me, says Mothers and daughters renew the eyes. So there is hope. And thank you so much for including me in this conversation, in this beloved book.
SPEAKER_02Oh wow, Daisy. Oh that was just heart touching. I love at the kind of towards the beginning where you said an uplifter of nations. And as you went in and saying everything that you are doing, everything that you have done and all your future plans, you are truly a woman that is an uplifter of nations that is making working to make this world a better place. You you are a true diva in every way. And I just I just love it. And I love how what inspired you, how you went back to your grandmother, your mother, the the women of the village. I mean, there were so many women in your life that inspired you to write this poem. And how how to listen to women, because there's so much that they have that they can offer to this world to make this world a better place. And I love how to create and lead and inspire and they renew us and give us hope. Oh, Daisy, I'm just uh like I said, my heart is just totally warmed by everything you said because it's just it's very inspiring to other women to hear a woman talking that can't that has teased these things and you have traveled around the world. You've been different places, you've you've seen different things, and to see what an inspiration the women have been for you and what they have helped you to do. It is it is just incredibly in beautiful.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, thank you, thank you. And coming to America meets so many beautiful ladies that have truly inspired me from all kinds of villages here, you know? And uh it is wonderful, it is wonderful.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yes, it is, and I always feel that every single woman has a very unique talent to share with this world, and it's just letting them know that they can let their light shine and let that unique gift, that unique talent that they have been given to shine into this world to make it a better place. And you are truly a woman that is helping other women to do that, and I know just the little bit you read on your poem that it is going to be an inspiration to so many women, and I'm so thankful that you are a part of uh our mother's, our daughter's book with Divas That Care. You you are a true inspiration in that book and in life and in every way, Daisy. We just really want to thank you for all you are doing.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, thank you, and I I can't wait to put a copy in, you know, all my daughter's hands immediately. And friends I'm now thinking of so many. Yes, this is such an inspiration. Thank you so much for this gift.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Oh, you you are so welcome, so very welcome. You have brought a beautiful gift to to the book by being inspired to be one of the authors in the book and contributing what you have done. What what an inspiration for others to s to hear and say, that is a book that I need to read. Because women like this from around the world are putting in their stories about being a mother. And you're a mother, you're a daughter. So you have you have they all have the aspects of both, and then their own daughters, and it is it is just incredibly beautiful, Daisy. I just I love it. I just think it is it's very, very heartwarming. And I love I love your name. Your name totally fits you because you when I think of a Daisy, I think of something bright and beautiful and full of sunshine and light, and that's what you are bringing into this world, Daisy.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, thank you so much, thank you, thank you. Actually, a train of my mother gave it to me at birth. Uh this Irish nun, yeah. And um attended the Catholic schools when I was born, and this nuns told my mother, Oh, your brother looks like uh a daisy, you're a beautiful flower. And so I've had it. You know, for a very, very long time. People ask me, how did you get this? So started a long time ago, indeed, indeed. Yes, yes, yes.
SPEAKER_02Well at birth they saw that beautiful light that you would be shining into this world, and that's why they they named they called you Daisy, and it it is just so fitting. And I I must say you I have been able to meet you in person and you shine in person just like you do through through the uh chat that we are having today. People can just feel your light and energy coming through it and I you are just a very warm person, Daisy. Thank you so much. Thank you, and I appreciate you too.
SPEAKER_01Since we've been to the member, you know, a double the first time I said, Oh, I just I just love well, oh I felt like drumming and you know, since then I, you know, I put drumming and dancing and yes, so you're wonderful. Thanks for everything that you're doing. Yes.
SPEAKER_02Well, thank you so much. Thank you so much. Is there I knew this would go very quickly. Is there a final final thought, final golden nugget you would like to leave with our listeners today that you feel you would like to share with them today? Yeah, Daisy.
SPEAKER_01I think we've covered most of the items, you know, on the agenda, as it stays in the agenda. But um I would like to say that please just be aware, look around, fear around, don't miss your opportunity. Be present. Whether you see this book and say, mmm, then get it and share it. Whatever it is, do not be absent. Actually I just wrote a summon um in that line saying, Are you absent? Please be present. Don't miss. There is so much good going on. Pay attention. The world needs you.
