The #1 Skill We Can Learn From Children About Unlocking Abundance

Dr. Reana Mulcahy PT, DPT Episode 51

What if we flipped the narrative and learned from children instead of teaching them?

In this thought-provoking episode, we explore how toddlers possess a unique ability to dream and express their desires without the stress and anxiety that often plagues adults.

By examining the barriers we face as grown-ups, such as societal norms and ingrained beliefs, we begin to unlock the true potential within us.

Discover how channeling your inner child can lead to a more fulfilling life, rich with abundance and joy. We delve into the subconscious beliefs that hinder our aspirations and encourage listeners to question the internal narratives that keep them from wanting what they truly desire.

How you see life is what you determine is possible. Today I am inviting you to consider how your perception of reality limits them and will gain insights into how to combat those constraints. Join us for a journey of self-discovery as we learn to navigate our dreams in a world that’s often too focused on what’s realistic. Tune in and discover the power of imagination, the essence of dreaming big, and how you can reclaim your desires without hesitation.

Speaker 1:

If you're an adult, you probably have a belief that adults teach children, but what if I told you that that's actually opposite, that we have a lot to learn from children and how the number one lesson that they can teach us might be the secret to unlocking abundance without stress and overwhelm? That's all coming up here on today's episode, so stay tuned. Hi, I'm Dr Riana Mulcahy, and after burning out not just once, but twice, I've uncovered that burnout becomes a never ending loop unless you uncover the subconscious beliefs at the root of it all. Each week, I'm bringing you brain-based tools and strategies that will help you to identify and rewire subconscious blocks keeping you from the success, happiness and freedom that you really want. This is Breaking the Burnout Cycle Podcast.

Speaker 1:

I love the most is toddlers, and I love being around toddlers because if you've ever been around a toddler, you know exactly how vast and amazing their imagination is. Right Like they, the stories they come up with and the games they come up with and the the things they tell you. I mean there's a reason why it is not only just like really cute and funny, but it's just amazing that they can make anything real. So if they say it's real, well, in their mind. It's real and I share that. Because I don't know. I was talking about this with the client the other day because, as I was coaching her in our one-on-one coaching container, you know, I asked her what is it that in 90 days, if you could have anything, what would you want? And she immediately had a hard time with answering this question. Like, she first answered I don't know, and then, when I tried to probe her, the answer that kept coming was I don't know. And how many of you guys out there do the same thing where you know someone asks you what do you want? You know, maybe a coach asks you what would be success to you, what do you want? And you immediately answer well, I don't know. And you actually sometimes even maybe get stuck on that question and the answer that continues to come up for you is I don't know. Well, I'm calling BS on that, because I genuinely think we all know what we want and I think that we, you know, if you were to sit and like actually really, really think about that and allow yourself to think about that, you actually know the answer. You might not know exactly the timeframe or maybe some of the details, but you know what you want. The question is are you trusting what you want? Are you allowing yourself to want what you want? And nine times out of 10, the answer is no. The answer is no, and so you know.

Speaker 1:

I go back to the toddlers and we were talking about this on the call, because if you look at the way toddlers, you know Christmas time is a perfect example. If you ask them what they want, oh my gosh, they could probably list all the things, all the toys, all the candy, all the. You know, anything that they want comes effortlessly. And I don't know where in our lifetime that we've lost this ability to be able to dream, to be able to want, to be able to believe that anything is possible, but instead we've replaced it with stories of whether or not it's realistic and what it means to want these things. And so often I tend to see clients you Almost every single client that I've coached has had a hard time with defining what they want and declaring what they want.

Speaker 1:

And it happens for two reasons. The first one is the meaning they make about wanting those things. And so you know, for example, if they want more income, they want more abundance, then guess what? Then all the stories comes up about well, I should be grateful because I already have a roof over my head, or I am being greedy because I'm wanting more than I need, and it's like, all right, I didn't ask you that piece, I just asked what you wanted. And it's like, all right, I didn't ask you that piece, I just asked what you wanted.

Speaker 1:

And so all of the subconscious stories that you might have learned from watching how your parents or your grandparents interact with money, or you know what the societal norm around money is like we're we don't realize it, but these are all things that we're hearing over and over and over again, to a point that it starts to become a subconscious belief that, well, if I do want these things, then I'm greedy or I'm ungrateful. And is that really true? Right? So that tends to be the first area that I see people limit their ability to dream. The second area I see people limit their ability to dream is whether or not it is realistic, and I hear that all the time. Well, realistically, and I stopped them every single time on the call no, no, no.

Speaker 1:

I did not ask what is the realistic thing that you can achieve in 90 days. I asked if you could have anything, anything in 90 days, what would it be? And that's where they have the hard time and begin to go into the. I don't know, even though they really know they go into the the. I don't know because the reality is what's behind that I don't know is I don't know how. I don't know how it's possible to get the thing that I want. And that's very much the logical mind trying to come up with all the ways that you can get that thing.

Speaker 1:

But here's the limitation of the logical mind. The logical mind operates based off of past and past alone, meaning it cannot predict the future and it cannot, in a sense, operate unless you train your brain to do that. It cannot operate from the future tense because it doesn't have data points to prove that. And so what happens? Your subconscious mind will start to go into all the reasons why it never panned out or why you know this isn't realistic and it's using past experiences of what you've seen with other people, like your parents or your siblings or your friends or you know, colleagues, whatever it is, and it's essentially using that data point to essentially compute logically. Well then, it must not be possible, because I don't know how, because I've never seen it done, it must not be possible.

Speaker 1:

And that is the number. You know that one actually limits people more than the first part, where, just because they've never seen it done, they don't think it's possible. And that's why I go back over and over and over again during this exercise and I remind them to channel their inner child, to channel, you know, the awe and wonder that toddlers and children in general look at the world through right, because this is one of the things too is. You know, we just had our, our Kellen, our first baby. He's five months old and you know he has no context. He's coming into the world completely innocent, with no lessons on like a complete blank slate on what is possible, what is true, what is not true, and he's learning it from me and Sean, from me and my husband, and that is true. You know, we all came into this world with no, like a blank slate, with no limitations, but we learned limitations from the things that we continue to experience and observe around us.

Speaker 1:

And so you know, when people are always like, oh, we need to teach our children and all of those things, it's like, yes, and I think that this is one of the biggest lessons we could learn from children is that to believe in the possibility of anything, right? Because I mean, just think about it. Would you go and tell a child, as they're telling you, about all of the things that they're creatively dreaming up, and even though in your mind you are like that could never happen, right, you wouldn't tell a child that to their face. And yet here we are telling ourselves that when we want something and so that's my challenge to you is how can you channel the energy and the way that children look at the world? When you look at your vision, how can you begin to question the internal dialogue of is this realistic or does this make me greedy? And begin to question that to say, well, why isn't it realistic?

Speaker 1:

And what I have my clients do all the time when they're struggling through this is to have them go out and look for examples of people who have the very thing that they want and who are living the life that they want. Because what that does is it just shows you proof of the possibility to operate from that. Anything is possible. And so that's my challenge to you is ask yourself what is it that you really want? And then see what comes up, what internal dialogue comes up for you. And then it's about how can I challenge that?

Speaker 1:

Okay, and if you want to dive deeper into this, this is what we do on our discovery calls we go deep into what is the internal dialogue that comes up for you when you are trying to declare your vision, when you are trying to get from point A to point B in your goals. What is getting in the way of you being able to hit those goals effortlessly, without stress and overwhelm, so that you can unlock abundance with ease? And so if this is something that you want to experience, then I highly recommend booking a call so you can at least uncover what is it that's getting in your way, Okay, so I hope you guys have an amazing rest of your week and then I will see you guys on next week's episode. Bye for now.
