SPEAKER_02

Hey magic makers, I'm Mom Birella.

SPEAKER_04

I'm You Kita Cosplay.

SPEAKER_02

And CJ is currently hiding from a tornado, so she won't be with us right now. But today we have a special guest, uh, Carlos, who is the um genius behind Elder Emo Knight, and uh uh basically an overall renaissance man, but we will get to him in just one minute. Um till that, or before that, get your monsters already, guys, because we solemnly swear we're up to no good. And uh speaking of up to no good, this weekend we have Pop Culture Con coming up, which I forgot to turn my notifications off, and they just posted something. So if you want to check that out, and uh I will be there all weekend with my team capturing all the fun. We are the eyes and the ears capturing videos and photographs of cosplayers, panels, guest interactions, and so much more, including the monster high cost group cosplay that we're doing because they have the creator as well as one of the voice actresses that will be there. So, y'all come join the fun if you want to dress up by all means join us because I will be Dracula and Yukita will be Claudine and CJ was going to be Gulia, but I'm not sure she's gonna make it. But we have lots more that are gonna be there. So y'all come join the fun if you want to join us. We will be doing pictures Saturday morning. Um do we have anything else that we need to announce real quick, Yukita? That I've forgotten.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think you pretty much showed all the cats on the street. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

I feel like I might have forgotten something, but CJ will have to forgive me and type it in the comments whenever she comes back. Until then, Carlos, welcome. We're so glad to have you today.

SPEAKER_00

Howdy, thank you for having me on the show.

SPEAKER_02

And uh, as we found out just before, he is a Raven Claw. So since CJ's not here, he's taking our Raven call usually, keeps our dynamic.

SPEAKER_00

I I was in the secret secret Raven Claw Club. I didn't I didn't know I'd need to be in uniform today, but I just so happened to be walking around with it on, you know, per usual.

SPEAKER_04

See, uh kind of same. I didn't realize that we would have you on today, but here you go.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I love that shirt so much. Uh thank you so much for supporting Elder Emo Night. You are an Elder Emo, not that Elder. Some of us uh a little more elder long in the tooth, as they used to say.

SPEAKER_04

So this is not only my wand, but it turns into my walking cane.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so tell uh tell those who don't know what is Elder Emo Night. Okay, they need to know about this.

SPEAKER_00

So Elder Emo Knight is a very awesome, uh it's like a passion project for me that I really love. Um, and it kicks back to like I grew up in Orlando in like the 90s was when I came of age, started listening to music in my like early mid-teens. Um, and and and in Orlando, just all these great shows are always passing through. So I got to grow up seeing like Ozfest and getting to see 20 of the biggest bands that were on the radio all the time, and it was not expensive, it wasn't like today where your tickets are like 300 something bucks if you want to be in the pit. Like you paid 40 bucks and you got in the pit. Like if you were the first person to get there, you was on the front hanging on the rail, and now it's like you pay to play, but it sucked. But I just remember being a teenager being able to go to these shows, and now as an adult, it just seems like you can't take your kids there, or it seems like oh, concert's not the place for them, or I don't know. Like it just seems different. The vibe is uh not the same. So, and also I moved to Texas, so that could be part of that vibe. I don't know, it's not really the scene for uh folks of a generation here, and so when I sound uh long story short. Uh so I go to uh so what ends up happening is I go to uh TwitchCon because I also stream from time to time, another subject we can talk about. So I'm at TwitchCon with some friends, and they all decide they're gonna go to an emo night. They're like, let's go to emo night. Uh we bought tickets for it, and it was expensive for all of us to go. And I was like, man, this are we sure about this? We go in, we had the best time besides the con itself. This was the coolest thing we did the whole time. And I came back home and I was like, I'm gonna throw one of these in my town, and uh, so I did, and we had like themed drinks and balloons and sold shirts and took pictures. Like we had my second one, was the big one. We had you guys were there for that one Fallout Boy tribute band, the Paramount tribute band, and she was great. I was like, I want you to headline my next one.

SPEAKER_04

She was so good, dude. And I'm so sad that I missed a Fallout Boy one because Fallout Boy is my favorite band.

SPEAKER_00

Oh man, they were so good, so good. I've hired them twice. This band is phenomenal. So I will I will be doing it a third time. I don't I'm breaking news right here, live on mommy rella that we will be doing a third one. Um, I have been spending a lot of my time and energy trying to get this back into downtown because like that's the business model and the design, and it works, and it's it's an inexpensive event, and I can have all ages. Like the kids don't have to be in the bars, the bars don't have to be in the street, like the food. So what I do is I block off a city street, okay. We get permits and we block off the city street, and then we'll set up a stage on the street, is what we want to do, and have big bands playing on the main stage, and then we have the surrounding restaurants serve the drinks, serve they do that in San Diego, they do it in Orlando, they do it pretty much in every big city anywhere, and I'm sure they're doing it in Houston somewhere, but Houston's kind of sprawling, so it's not like you have restaurant, bar, bar, restaurant, bar, bar. You know what I'm saying? It's it's like there's like office building stuff. You can't really interconnect things unless you take up the entire city.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Houston is one of those areas where you can't walk from place to place, like people don't realize how huge that area is and how sprawled how spread out everything is, you know.

SPEAKER_04

The saying is Houston is an hour away from Houston, right?

SPEAKER_00

Seriously, that's true, and it's true, honestly. From like east to west, yeah, or from south. I don't even know where like Pasadena ends and Houston begins. Like, I don't even know where these lines are. What is late League City?

SPEAKER_02

But I have the idea. I got invited to Pasadena to do a con in a couple of weeks as a guest, and I was like, Yeah, sure. And then I start looking at how far away it is and how long it's gonna take me to drive it. I'm like, oh my gosh, I'm gonna have to get a hotel room one of those nights.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Just for like an hour and a half plus another half hour of traffic. If I want to drive like both ways, I'm like, oh, I don't want to do that.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my gosh. And who's Dina is about an hour and a half away from our area? That's my area, and I'm an hour away from you.

SPEAKER_02

Yep. So like everything literally is about an hour away, at least. That's the minimum, basically, you know, because uh if it's not the distance, it's the traffic.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's totally uh it's totally hardcore.

SPEAKER_02

So I love I love Conroe, and uh I I don't want to get into too much on this. I do want to touch this just for the sake of guys, uh, check out the supporting Conroe community because there is something happening that's making it difficult to have events downtown, and uh y'all they need y'all's support. Local businesses need y'all support for this. So y'all look that up and I will uh I I have dropped the link a number of times. I don't want to get into it because it is a very uh emotional thing to us.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, if you and uh I might let a couple of bad words slip out, so I don't want to I don't want to bring all of the things that I'm gonna do.

SPEAKER_04

I'm gonna end that topic with do it for me because I'm technically not a Conroe citizen. I'm in Magnolia, so go and do something about it for me.

SPEAKER_00

I was thinking about something in Magnolia too. So there's that there's yeah, yeah. So there's that strip. It's kind of the back strip off of oh god, the where the where the railroad tracks meets the Burger King.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so that goes straight south towards like Tomball, but it kind of breaks off. There's a little side street that's where the brewery is. There's a brewery there. Yeah, it's that little stroll right there. I was thinking about that street and how cool that street would be to throw something legitly awesome and have little right there to do the alcohol, food trucks to do the food, and maybe there's a restaurant there. I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

There's so many, yes.

SPEAKER_00

You would be supporting so many small businesses that are you could have uh legit and people would come to Magnolia to do that, they go to frickin' uh what is it, something mission, Todd Mission to go to the Renaissance Festival. Period. Oh, the Renaissance Festival, I'll go there all the damn time every year.

SPEAKER_04

Magnolia zona is the city that is right like the gate city uh before you get to Todd Mission for the Renaissance Festival.

SPEAKER_02

So lift up your cars. Well, and it's the sister city to Conroe, too. And honestly, like they've been having a lot of events lately that they advertise, you know. I'm just saying. So yeah, definitely like anyway.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, well, they go if you decide to throw an emo night at the stroll.

SPEAKER_00

So I think I might try some. Uh uh, like I said, I've got a lot of ideas. I got I'm an ideas man. The problem is I don't have enough time in the day to do things, and I I sacrificed a lot of sleep just to get the things done I want to get done.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so Elder Emo Knight is amazing. We had an absolute blast where we went last time, and we definitely are looking forward to more to come. But I also know that you have other things that you're involved with that uh you wanted to maybe mention tonight.

SPEAKER_00

Uh so uh well, I've got my theater stuff, and then I've got my game show stuff. Um, so there's that, and then I've got like my voice acting stuff and my voice acting game show stuff that's also coming out, and then I'd like there's just too many things. There's all the things.

SPEAKER_02

They're Renaissance man, a man of many times.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, and then there's still something else I was doing too. I just forgot.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, about tell us about the trivia, the game show stuff that you okay.

SPEAKER_00

So I am what they call the resident entertainer at B52 Brewery. So on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, I do game shows. Wednesdays I do uh bingo to the beat, and it's like a music game, it's like a music bingo game show, and it's super all my games are free, so just throw that out there. But it's super fun. Instead of numbers, we have uh songs, and we make the song lists ourselves, we print the sheets ourselves, we laminate them so we can use them over and over again. We make it, it's all handcrafted game show, and so and so we make these really awesome song lists. Uh like for instance, we have all the decades from the 1940s through the 2020s. Um, well, we haven't done 2020s yet because it's not over, but yeah, no, it's in the 2010s, end of 2020. And so we uh we just put songs from those decades. We have a general round that's like the top hugest songs of all time. We put them into these general rounds. So you'd hear some songs from the 80s with some songs from the 40s, with some songs, and they're all gonna be really popular songs that were big for their time. That you're not gonna not know these people. Uh, at least you might know the artist. And if you don't, you're playing as a team. So your table is as many people as you bring. And so you all sit there and you have each have your cards, and when the song comes up, one of you might know. You know, oh, I know this song. Oh, I grew up with this. This is my favorite song in high school, something like that. Or if it's a generational team, you've got the grandparents with the adult parents, with the late teen, early 20s kids and their kids, maybe, and like all of them have sheets, and all of them are helping each other out and getting answers. It's super fun, super easy. We get a lot of free stuff, and uh, but I really like it. It's uh it's one of my so tested out. Is it just me? Am I see I was I used my magic to make my drink disappear, and now I'm getting blurry.

SPEAKER_02

Uh no, how about you go?

SPEAKER_00

So we got the music bingo. That was super awesome. And then on Thursdays, I do trivia. And my trivia game show, I call it uh, it's uh e it's hard, it's easily hard, but hardly easy. And so it'll always be answers that you've heard of or you know, it'll be a president or everything, but you the way it's worded or the way it's questioned, you know, you're like, oh god, I know what this is, I know this answer, I just can't think of it. And then later on, I say it, you're like, God, you're just kicking yourself in the ass. Like, I I somehow have managed to write all these really great questions uh that I've been doing for over 10 years now. And people, when the people play it, they're like, it just feels like it's never too hard, but you miss the ones you missed you should have got kind of things. Oh, I know that feeling, and then uh and so and nobody feels dumb. Everybody's like, oh yeah, only the people that are just not good at it are not trying. And then um, and then at the end, you just kind of bet your points away. So even if uh you were the top dog, you bet too many points and you get it wrong, you'll drop down. Somebody at the end can bet 10 points, jump all the way up, and and win the night. You know, it's it can get crazy. Most of the time, the good people win, and the people that don't do so well hang out in the back. But uh, there's that, and then Friday nights is my family feud game show. And I have built this, it's called Friday Night Feud, and I have also built this one from the bottom up. Um, we got an engineer to make us buzzers, and we're gonna go. You know what I'm saying? So they light up, they make sounds, and so this engineer made us buzzers, and we've got microphones, and we've got a sound deck, you know. So when they get it wrong, it's dude, or like we have we have all different types of stuff. And so what we do is we ask family feud style questions. Okay, there's no right or wrong answer. The number one answer in the room gets the point. So if all of the teams say police officer, then all the teams will get a point. So we ask you a bunch of rounds, build up your points, and then the top eight teams go into a tournament, and two from this team. So you two will go against the two dudes at the end of the table or the team of kids. So we have kids that come up because it's a family game show. So like we have teams of kids that come up, hands we do fist bump for friendship, hands flat on the felt, and like I'll be on the microphone and I'll be like, All right, ma'am, if you get this right, you will shatter these kids' dreams of moving on into this tournament. It's all up to you to make this child cry in front of all these people, and the crowds laughing, the kids laughing, and then the ping, the kid hits the buzzer, gets it right, beats her, she loses. Then they get to come up later, like suck it, granny. But no, it's really it's really fun, and anybody can win. And uh, I have if you're interested, I have a couple of questions because we write these questions ourselves, and so I could ask the two of you and see which one of you gets the same answer that I got at my event. It'll only take like a couple of seconds.

SPEAKER_04

I'm gonna say yes.

SPEAKER_00

Are you ready? Are you ready? All right, this is a little entertainment and delivery now. Just say the answer that comes to your hand or the one that you really think is the answer. You don't have to wait to be called upon or anything like that. There's no right or wrong answer, it's just the answer that they told me at my event. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, all right.

SPEAKER_00

Question number one How many times does the average adult eat dessert per month? How many times does the average adult eat dessert per month?

SPEAKER_02

14.

SPEAKER_04

I'm gonna say 30.

SPEAKER_00

So we got an every day and every other day. The correct answer, the the answer at my event was 12. So there you go.

SPEAKER_04

So mom is I'm just a fatty, it's fine.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, here well, here's another one. How long do you think it takes to paint the average size bedroom? How long do you think it takes in hours to paint the average size bedroom?

SPEAKER_04

I'm gonna say anywhere between 12 to 20, depending on whether that person works full time.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, you gotta pick you gotta pick one.

SPEAKER_02

I was gonna say like 30, like more than a day, because it takes me two days to get a project like that done.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, it was ridiculously low. It was ridiculously low. It's like six hours, and I was like, nah.

SPEAKER_02

Well, regular clock room.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, maybe they're just thinking about maybe they all live in small apartments, I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

I haven't heard of that, and they don't have a job, so they're like just chilling and excuse me, no.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that's a that's a 15-minute job, or like the power roll, or and you don't have to be nice about it. You don't have to live under the stairs. All right, you you two are both from Texas, right? Right?

SPEAKER_04

Inevitably.

SPEAKER_00

You're gonna admit this live on camera? Okay, here we go.

SPEAKER_04

They already know.

SPEAKER_00

Give me a boy's name who was obviously born in Texas. Give me a boy, Jasper. Jasper, I think that's a good one because I don't think I ever met a Jasper until I moved here, but the number one answer was Austin. Travis was another one.

SPEAKER_04

I knew I grew I went to school with an Austin and a Travis.

SPEAKER_00

This is true. So here's your next one. Give me a girl's name who was obviously born in Texas. This was harder, but there was an answer.

SPEAKER_02

Uh oh. I want to say something with Joe in the middle because everybody I know is is gotten Becky Joe and all that.

SPEAKER_00

Peggy Joe, Peggy Joe, Peggy, right?

SPEAKER_04

Exactly. Yeah. Um Adelaide.

SPEAKER_00

Adelaide. That's unique. That's all of these. I like that. The number one answer is Belle or Bella. Like those kind of two names.

SPEAKER_02

That's the other one. It's either Joe or Belle in the middle names. Yeah, those are the cues.

SPEAKER_00

So you can see how like all the teams.

SPEAKER_02

Like as their middle names, both those two. Yeah, that's true. All right.

SPEAKER_00

Give me a cliche excuse for being late to work.

SPEAKER_04

Had to stop and get gas.

SPEAKER_02

Um my alarm didn't go off. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Those are both good. Those are both on there. Number one answer was just straight up traffic. Like, traffic was terrible.

SPEAKER_02

Honestly, it was terrible.

SPEAKER_00

Like, traffic was bad. That's why I couldn't get here.

SPEAKER_02

That's the truth, though.

SPEAKER_04

Honestly.

SPEAKER_00

On time, you weren't on time yesterday because of traffic.

SPEAKER_04

Big truth, honestly.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so so you can see how you build up points, and then you go head to head, and then head to head, I have like 1600 questions from the actual game show with their totals, so I know who said what. And so you smash and do the real answers from the show. It's really fun, it's really unique. There's nothing like it in town. And so I enjoyed you do that at B52 as well on Friday. Yep. So Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. And then Guadalajara's downtown Conroe. I do the uh I do trivia as well on Tuesday nights.

unknown

Nice.

SPEAKER_04

So we're gonna be stopping by more often.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, you guys should definitely, I think the two of you should definitely go play uh definitely play Friday Night Feud. If you got a Friday where you can slide in, that game show is two bonkers, bro. You would be laughing, people be laughing with you. We cut up quite a bit. If I'm there, now I might not be there, and here's why. Because on the 13th, I'm auditioning to be in 1776, the musical. Uh, so this is my next topic, if you know. Uh, so I don't know I'm gonna get a part, but this uh the last two auditions I've had, I was number two, and there was always one more person on stage with me, and it's just me and them. And I'm like, oh, they're gonna get this part because they're so good. And they are, and I end up being number two. So I've been number two my last two auditions. And I am uh done being number two.

SPEAKER_02

You ready to be number one?

SPEAKER_00

And I don't want to miss another show. I'm I'm itching for a show, so I am thinking that I am going to get at least some type of part in the show.

SPEAKER_02

1776 is a great one. I watched that one a lot with my kids because they're homeschooled, so it's a great one to watch. And way before Hamilton came out, too.

SPEAKER_00

I love it a lot. It uh at first I didn't, and it's because I was I was born in the 80s, and so anything from the 70s and before was old, you know. So, like if it was from the 70s or the 60s, it was like this is old. No, absolutely not. And so this was one of those musicals where I'm like, oh, this is sounds like it's straight out the 70s, bro. You know, and so I didn't like it at first, but then as I'm like thinking, okay, this is gonna be a really good show, it's 250 years of independence, you know. It's uh I I was like, okay, this show is gonna be one I'm probably gonna try out for it. Let's watch it. So I watched it a couple times through, and I've just fallen for it a lot, and I really, really, really am excited to audition for it and hopefully get a part. And then if that happens, there's a couple of Fridays I'm gonna be on stage, so I won't, but I'll have them.

SPEAKER_02

Which theater is that one gonna be at?

SPEAKER_00

That one's at the Owen Theater. Okay, that's downtown Congress, and also another thing, they just released the Crichton Theaters list of shows that they're doing. Oh my god. One, okay, so the Owen Theater is doing a show. Are you guys theater nerds? If you're not theater nerds, I don't even know where I'm gonna talk about. Yeah, theater nerds here, big theater nerds here. Okay, so we'll start with the small one. Uh, the Owen Theater is going to be doing uh a couple of a couple of shows from like Broadway, off Broadway touring, whatever. They finally released the rights. So a couple of really big shows are coming out this year. And at the Owen Theater, they're doing uh Come From Away or Come From Afar. So I I can't think of it. Come from away. I think it's come from away. Anyways, dude, this thing is so good. It's about 9-11, and planes like having to get rerouted, and like these are actually other planes that were getting rerouted, having to be landed in this town in like uh somewhere in Canada, small island count town in Canada, had to take like thousands of airplane fly passengers and keep them there for days, you know. It was just and it's so it's a it's really cool and really unique musical on that. It's gonna be beautiful. I'd love to trap for that. I know many of other people who are way better than me, so I'm pretty sure I would, but I will audition for that if I get a chance. And then finally, the big one at the oh at the Crichton Theater they just released that they are gonna be doing uh Dear Evan Hansen, which is one of the biggest, like it's huge opera, and like and it it's really good. It's one Tony Awards, it's been there's a movie. Dear Evan Hansen is so good. I took my daughter to see it live at Tuts. Like, it's great, it's gonna be good. I'm gonna want an audition for that. Then they're doing Disney's Freaky Friday, the musical. Uh the they'll be doing Frankenstein, like the horror story version. So they did like they did Dracula last year, they're gonna do Frankenstein this year. So that's not a music, it's just just gonna be trying to be creepy AF. Uh there's a play coming out called Always Always the Bridesmaid, which I gonna guess that sounds fun, and then a Christmas story, the musical, I think. Is it a musical? Now it might not be a musical, but it's Christmas story, the play. So you'll shoot your eye out on theater, and then and then finally Footloose. Uh Footloose is gonna be a musical, it's gonna be a lot of dance, and it's being directed by Adam Isabel, who is a really good friend of mine, is one of the best uh hairstylists in uh downtown Conroe, and he was epic. I've seen him act, I've seen him direct. He's really awesome. Footloose is gonna be fun. I just wonder who's gonna be the choreographer on that one because I want to see dance, dude. And that on Footloose, I want to see some legit dance, bro. I want to be up in the balcony so I can look down and watch everybody dance. For real low. Sorry.

SPEAKER_04

We have about four or so minutes left on the docket, mommy.

SPEAKER_00

I got the the secret signal.

SPEAKER_04

You want that?

SPEAKER_00

I was waiting for it. I was like, I'm not gonna see it.

SPEAKER_04

You do not hear, so I'm just gonna go. Ask your question.

SPEAKER_00

Isn't there a isn't there a spell that like locks your mouth so you can't talk?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I do. Okay, so what qu did you ask questions? Are we asking questions?

SPEAKER_04

This is the part when we ask him the things.

SPEAKER_05

All right, let's go.

SPEAKER_02

So okay, so I'm gonna backtrack a little bit on elder emo night here. So if somebody were interested in doing something like this, like setting up an event event, yeah. So what advice would you give them?

SPEAKER_00

First thing you want to do, um, one, uh it's definitely a risk. So there's a risk of some money. But what you would do is one, you got to have a place with a great stage. Uh, it's really about what you want. So I like mine to be in downtown streets so I can utilize because I don't have an alcohol license, I don't have a liquid food license, none of that. Um, so you really got to figure out where you're gonna hold the event and who's gonna, and then you gotta find these bands. So, what I would do is I would go and see really good bands that are playing in Houston or in a bigger part of town than yours. And then when you see one that you're like this, this one right here, be like, yo, I'm gonna throw a concert and always talk about it like you already are. You know, I'm gonna throw a concert in Conroe. I want to know, uh I gotta hit you guys up, find out how much it costs, blah, blah, blah. You find out how much the band costs, find out how much you got to do tickets, tickets on Eventbrite or whatever. You know, I just use the first basic website I could find, and that was it, man. And I just started selling it, but you gotta have really good marketing, and so like a lot of my promos, I was I wanted to make these bands look like stars, you know what I'm saying? A lot of the places like emo night, and it's got like I don't know, Jack Skellington on it, and you know what I'm saying, or something like that, and just the band, the band's name or the mention. No, I was like, shoom, this band, shoom that band, shoom, this band, interviewing them and you know, getting you know, getting info on them, posting. It's all about like getting a buzz around these bands, and then when they show up, they gotta perform. But if you pick the right bands, they're gonna they're definitely gonna exceed expectations, it's gonna be awesome, and people are gonna want to come back.

SPEAKER_02

Sure. Um also, um, did I don't know if I asked this a minute ago. I think I did not, but uh, as far as your trivia and stuff, is all that family friendly?

SPEAKER_00

Yes, so we make everything like is I would say that it's got a level of PG. You're gonna get some fart jokes, some poop things, some you know what I'm saying? So there's like a level of uh I would say G per se.

SPEAKER_02

Parental discretion advice.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, also just like you know, or like it's just like sometimes there are questions, and sometimes the adults weigh the questions into a situation where I've got to choose choice words. I'll be like, and the answer is a lady of the night, you know, you know, like because people it's what is it? They steve harvey stuff, bro. They just steam harvey it.

SPEAKER_02
