In this episode landmark photojournalist Rowland Scherman graces the podcast with his presence along with his close friend Michael "Judge" Jones. I couldn't be more appreciative and honored that Rowland spent the time for this interview, it was a true pleasure, thank you Judge Jones for facilitating this special occasion.
Rowland's illustrious career in photojournalism is storied; I'll briefly highlight a few points: Rowland embarked as the first Peace Corps photographer, captured countless cultural icons, shot Dylan Album covers, won a Grammy, captured Kennedy family photos & campaigns, photographed Andy Warhol, the Beatles, Arthur Ashe, and so many more. As one of the most historically significant photojournalists of the 20th century who trailblazed through the 60's, 70's and beyond, this was a really special moment to spend time hearing Rowland's genuine take on these significant moments captured with his camera.
Judge Jones and his wife Christine edited and produced the book about Rowland titled "Timeless: Photography of Rowland Scherman" available HERE to order.
Also, please do check out Rowland's website www.rowlandscherman.com to see his works. Additionally, Christine & Michael Jones have a collection of Rowland's work which they are selling locally in Orleans, and if there is interest from any listeners to see some of these originals, please email capeandislandspodcast@gmail.com and I'll connect you directly with the fantastic Jones duo.
Thank you so much for listening as always.

In this episode I speak with Patricia (Patti) Novak, an accomplished lawyer who focuses on Estate Planning in all capacities. Patti is a long time friend & supporter of my shop Trove, where we've had many conversations over the years which have ultimately led to this podcast happening.
Patti has worked for Falco & Associates P.C. out of Quincy Massachusetts for over 15 years and has been an Attorney for over 30. Of all the episodes I've recorded for this podcast, this will forever be one of the most important as there are so many basic protections that each of us need yet so few of us establish for ourselves legally & properly.

In this episode I speak with my friend and accomplished artist & creator Rob Nitsch. As a professional photographer, cinematographer, designer and visual effects artist Rob has accomplished great things in his career. In the past few years Rob has dug deep into generative Artificial Intelligence, more specifically MidJourney; you may be surprised by this as he is a professionally trained artist who sells in galleries and makes a living off of original works, making his approach to A.I. art quite intriguing.
Rob started a YouTube Channel InbetweenStops many years ago where he initially focused on photography, but has transitioned into an A.I. centric channel that discusses art history and various styles by utilizing A.I. This has brought a fresh audience, and in many cases a younger audience, into the fold where they're learning proper composition, styles, history and how to create emotion in compositions that they may have never understood or learned prior to the A.I. revolution. We also reference Rob's new extreme sports channel which he will share with his son, titled SonofaNitsch! We further mention my D.E.M.P.S.E.Y YouTube Channel so check them all out and you'll see why Rob's is growing much quicker!
Rob's Instagram page, also titled InbetweenStops, showcases his amazing photography, please do check that out.
We also discuss Rob's successful Class Action Lawsuit against the film industry, check out both of these stories, one at the START and one at the END of the process. Click Start or End to read the articles.
Thank you so much Rob for coming on the show and please do come back again, there is much more to talk about!

In this episode we speak about the Massachusetts stretch building code as well as energy efficiency, fossil fuel dependence, housing capacity & struggles on Cape Cod and more with Constance Kremer, Hakim Janah and David Abel. David joins us about half way through the interview.
This fall at the Orleans town meeting, the expansion of the stretch code failed the town vote and I wanted to further discuss the details of why, and what the upside is to this new structure should it someday be adopted. At town meeting Hakim gave a great speech in support of this new measure, which led to Constance and I discussing the idea of making this episode to dig deeper on this topic.
Constance is on the Finance Committee in Orleans and also owns Kremer & Daughters interior design. Hakim is on the Energy & Climate committee in Orleans and was prior an engineer in a large scale industry leading energy supplier. David Abel is also on the Finance Committee in Orleans with Constance and works in housing management/development and planning .
This is certainly a part 1 of two or three on this topic as there is much to be discussed. Thank you so much for listening as always!

In this episode I speak with firefighters Gabby Parker and Ian Mack of the Orleans Fire Department about their charitable efforts surrounding the 2023 Homeless for the Holidays drive from December 6th through December 10th in Orleans. They and their firefighting colleagues will be camping out for 103 hours straight to gather donations for this drive, the location will be directly next to the Red Balloon Toy Shop in Orleans, 116 Route 6A.
Accepted donations will be unwrapped toys, clothing, food, financial donations and more. This year there is a greater need for teenage clothing and unwrapped toys, but all donations are greatly appreciated. On Saturday December 9th from 9am to noon Santa will be there with the fire truck to meet local families and he'll be joined by many of our local firefights, please come out to show your support and donate if you can! If you have questions or can't make it in person, reach out to OFD at homelessfortheholidaysofd@gmail.com.
Bourne Fire started this charitable drive 22 years ago and has encouraged other departments, fire and police, to join their efforts. Collectively Homeless for the Holidays has gathered over 100,000 toys, 106,000 pounds of food, over $600,000 in financial donations, and much more. This is a great group effort from our local Fire and Police departments. Also, if you can't support through donations this year, consider coming to support the Firefighters, say hello and share a high five, or even just share the information on social media to help boost exposure.
Thank you to Gabby, Ian and of course Chief Geof Deering for supporting this effort. Also thanks to Todd Thayer for donating the location for this drive.
Let's make this holiday season a good one for all of our friends, family and loved ones!

Sam Hollander is one of the most important songwriters of our time, so I wanted to give you all a chance to meet him. Sam comes to Cape Cod often and last summer recorded his audio book "21 Hit Wonder: Flopping my way to the Top of the Charts" in my Orleans studio Checkpoint East. Go listen to the audio book, it is quite a story!
Sam has written for so many top tier artists it would take all day to list them, but you can check out his catalogue of multi-platinum songs at www.samhollandersongs.com and you can find him on instagram by following @samhollander with the blue check mark. To list a few artists you may know; Ringo Starr, Katy Perry, Public Enemy, Macklemore, Billy Idol, Panic at the Disco, Fitz and the Tantrums, Weezer... the list goes on and on.
It was a real privilege to do this interview with Sam, and I hope to do more as time goes on. Thank you Sam!

In this interview (Part 2 of 2) Logan Tichnor and I discuss a bit more about technology but much more about growing up on Cape Cod as a Gen Z young man and how that has impacted his life. Logan is a highly skilled sound engineer and guitarist who works in various studios, but primarily works in Checkpoint East Recording studio that I opened in Orleans in 2020. Logan currently plays guitar in the band Solgyres and previously played in Canon Hill and Don't Act Bad.
Logan and I jointly operate the Safe Harbor Records music label out of Checkpoint East. Since we both love music and both play music ourselves I wanted to start a series within the podcast titled the "Cozy Corner" (coming soon) where local bands like Nikki and the Barn Boys, Solgyres and many more play live music and speak about their band history, so stay tuned for future Cozy Corner episodes! Two are already recorded and will be posted within the next few weeks along with the videos on the Cape and Islands YouTube page. Thank you to Meegan Minahan for helping to shoot the Cozy Corner videos with me, and for doing the spectacular editing to make the videos shine. Also thanks to Logan Tichnor for doing the sound engineering for the Cozy Corner episodes.
I am you host, Clarke, a proud washashore resident of Cape Cod and local business owner. Thank you so much for giving this a shot and listening, if there is feedback please send it along to capeandislandspodcast@gmail.com and I'll happily respond and consider your feedback.
