It's the one thing that has probably a half a million views .
Speaker 1I taught a message called breaking ungodly soul ties , but I've never brought it over to the podcast stage . I've kind of done that from our church platform and I felt like this is one that we wanted to dig in today and we wanted to break curses , break soul ties so that people could be free . And I'm simply entitling today how to break a soul tie or how to break soul ties , freedom from sexual bondage and , like I said at the end of today , we're gonna pray with you . Now . Here's the thing If you are currently married and you were not a virgin when you got married , you could have a soul tie to people that you were with before you got married . If you're single and you've been with people before , you could have a soul tie . I wanna share with you , from God's word , some perspectives concerning sexual purity .
Speaker 1And then we're gonna break bondage and I just believe that people are gonna get set free .
Speaker 2Amen .
Speaker 1We've seen God do it again and again , and again and I believe he's gonna do it again today . I wanna start at 1 Corinthians , chapter six . This is a must share podcast . Please make sure you do so .
Speaker 1It says I have the right to do anything you say , but not everything is beneficial . Y'all know that's right . You can do whatever you wanna do under Christian liberties , but it doesn't mean it's gonna be a positive effect on your life . I have the right to do anything , but I will not be mastered by anything . I will not be mastered by the cigarettes , the pornography . I will not be mastered by anything but the master , who's Jesus ? Amen . You say food for the stomach and stomach for the food , and God will destroy them both . The body , however , is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord , and the Lord is for the body . By his power , god raised the Lord from the dead and he will raise us up . Also , do you not know that your bodies are the members of Christ himself ? Shall I take the members of Christ and unite them to a prostitute and I would like to add this balance or unite them in any form of sexual immorality , and it says never . Somebody say never .
Speaker 1Do you not know that he who unites himself with the prostitute is one body with her ? For , it said , the two should be one flesh . But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him , and here's the command . Flea sexual immorality .
Speaker 1That word flea means to run in terror . It's a very strong word . That means get out of the relationship , get out of that community , get away from those people that say that it's okay . You owe it to your soul to get to safe grounds . Why ? Because all of the sins a person commits are outside the body , but whoever sins sexually sends against their own body . Do you not know that your bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit , who is in you , who you've received from God , and you are not your own . You were bought at a price . Here's the punchline , the end part . Therefore , honor God with your bodies . Okay , to be clear , that means honor God with your sexuality . That's the context . So first Corinthians six is kind of our springboard . What jumps out to you from that sweetheart ?
Speaker 2There's so much . First of all , that sexual immorality is a sin , yeah . And then also that and I say that because I think today we , and for a long time , we've kind of normalized sexual immorality Okay , we've said that it's okay to have sex outside marriage , it's okay to watch pornography , it's okay for masturbation , it's okay for all of these things .
Speaker 1Let's change it around from we say that to what you said . How did you view sex ?
Speaker 2Well okay , yeah that's a better way . I viewed sex as it was okay as long as you were in a committed relationship . As long as I had sex with my boyfriend , it was okay . I thought that I didn't think that any . I didn't have a concept of sin , so I didn't think that sex was sin . I didn't think masturbation , pornography , all of that stuff . It was just whatever you wanna do .
Speaker 1So let's get people context . So you didn't get saved until you was 20 , was it four ?
Speaker 222 .
Speaker 122 years old , so you didn't really even know the difference between Jesus and David in the Bible . You went to church maybe once or twice growing up , but really didn't have a relationship with Jesus , and so you basically developed your perspective about sex and sexuality from the world , not the word . And that's what happens in our society today that people are basing their worldview based upon the world , not the word . And the problem is that Satan , the Bible says , is the God of the world . He's not the word , but he's the God of the world . And the Bible says that he has blinded the minds of unbelievers lest the light of the gospel shine in . That means that people who do not have Jesus , they are the living dead or they are blind men walking . They see , but they don't see . They can see and that's where you were . So even before we say we're not telling people don't do this and don't do that , because we don't have a heaven or hell to put people in we can't tell you what is sin or not sin .
Speaker 1So we don't say what sin . We say whatever the Bible says . We go with that . So , as a believer , our job is to submit our life to the Lordship of Jesus . Now , it's not based upon what I wanna do , but what he's called me to do , and to find God's will for our lives , we go to the Bible . The Bible is not a book of contradictions . It is not a book of historical facts . It is the living , breathing word of God , without contradiction and without error . If there's ever a biblical contradiction , it's simply you don't understand something . So Jesus was the manifestation of the word . He was the word made flesh . So in the beginning was the word . The word was with God and the word was God . You only love Jesus as much as you love his word .
Speaker 1And so I just wanna give so . When we talk about sexual and morality , it's not based upon what I think it is . It's not based upon what you used to think it is . It's based upon what the Bible says that it is . From that foundation , please build on .
Speaker 2So I forget what I was saying now .
Speaker 1Cause I said from that foundation please build on Like some cool step up and stuff .
Speaker 2No , but it's good . But I was saying , basically , I used to , I didn't think that sexual immorality was sin , I didn't have a concept of sin and therefore , yeah , I didn't know the consequences , none of that . That was point number one that I was making from this scripture .
Speaker 1Point number three number two , Just skip two . Who cares about it ?
Speaker 2two you was point number two . Okay point number three is I think I don't remember what point number three was You're looking for something in the scripture . There was a latter part , oh , that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit . That's something that early on in my faith , when I learned that my body was a temple of the Holy Spirit , it made me have a respect for my body and an honor for my body and what I do with and in my body .
Speaker 1And so when it changed my perspective of sexual immorality in that I wanted to honor God with my body , With your body okay , and I think that every believer has to grow to the place where they say my body's not my own , let me honor God with my body , cause you can either honor God or dishonor God with your body , and the choice is gonna be up to us . Can we define sexual immorality very quickly ? So in Leviticus 18 , I believe it gives us all these different things , and all the way over to the New Testament , I kinda define it in seven different ways . According to God's word not my opinion sexual immorality would be fornication , adultery , bestiality , incest , homosexuality , lust and also pornography . Those are basically the seven . Now there can be more than that , but those are the seven things . So when the Bible talks about sexual immorality , all of those things fall under that banner . Sexual immorality is just sexual sin . Sin is just missing the mark . God says do it this way . We say no , I wanna do it my way . And whenever we do it my way or how we feel , instead of what God says , it actually creates spiritual bondage . The bondage that we're talking about today are soul ties , and soul ties are very , very , very common . We see people if you look through our threads . Thousands of people around the world have broken out of soul ties after this message and we're believing by faith that God's gonna do it again on today , and so here's some important things that I would take from 1 Corinthians .
Speaker 11 Corinthians it's important to know that God created sex , so sex is not taboo , it's not dirty , it's not nasty , matter of fact . It can be holy , it can be pure , it can be wonderful when it's done inside of the right context , with the right people . I just feel like Hollywood has painted sex that's monogamous is boring and whack , and sex that's just you meet somebody in the bar , go home is hot and it's steamy . The devil is a liar . So one of the things that we do in our podcast is we wanna make Christian married sex great again , and I really believe that that's the call of God for us . Now we can get into that . Later we're gonna drop some podcasts this year and , especially in our boot camp , we're gonna do everything we can to rejuvenate that area . But that's important to know Now . Sex that's outside of God's way can lead to sexual trauma , sexual diseases , it can lead to dysphoria . It can lead to what we're talking about today Soul ties .
Speaker 1We'll define it in a moment . Okay , the second thing that I would take from Corinthians is that what we do with our body says a lot about where we are in God . What we do with our body says a lot about where we are with God , because we can honor God or dishonor God with our body , and for years I dishonored God with my body and I'm not proud about it . I wish that I could go and erase my past . Now , thankfully , I'm a new creation in Christ Jesus . Old things are passed away . Behold , all things become new and we all can start new today .
Speaker 2Yes , sir .
Speaker 1But I treasured my sexual immorality . I lived a sexually immoral life . I brought other people into my sexual immorality as well . I convinced them to be sexually immoral with me , and so I dishonored God for a big season of my life . Thank God that our God can take our sin and cast it as far as the East is from the West . And now I get the opportunity for the last 22 years , live sexually pure and to live holy and to know that my body can be used as honor to God .
Speaker 2Mm-hmm , yeah , so good .
Speaker 1And the third thing that I would take out of this one is that one of the ways that Jesus honored the Father is that he honored him with his body , and so the Bible says that Jesus was tempted at every point , like we have been . That means that he was tempted with adultery . He was attempted with fornication . Jesus was tempted with homosexuality . He was tempted with incest . But just because you're tempted doesn't mean you have to give into the temptation . Listen very closely . So just because you're tempted with something doesn't mean you need to be overtaken by it , or that you need to give into it or , worse yet , make it a part of your personality . Jesus was tempted at every point , but he did not sin .
Speaker 1He was showing us that we could walk in the same power and authority that even though we're tempted , even though we feel something , doesn't mean that we have to give into it .
Speaker 2I think that is so powerful . Another thing I learned this is something that changed my life as a new believer that I learned that not every thought that came into my head was my thought , and so what that told me was like you know , there's your thoughts , there's the devil thoughts and there's God's thoughts , and you have to discern which . Okay , it's one of the three . What is this ? And I think sometimes sexual immorality . You know the enemy can throw thoughts at us .
Speaker 2Sometimes thoughts come from seeds of things that we've let in , from other people speaking over our lives , from what we watch on TV , from the seeds of music that we listen to . These thoughts , or these seeds , are being thrown into our mind , and if you don't know that that's not your thought , you will receive it like it's your own , and so you'll say , well , I can't help it , I'm just this way , I can't help it , I have to do this , I can't help it , I want to do this , but you can help it . Why do we know this ? Because Jesus was tempted at every point . Jesus overcame homosexual thoughts , jesus overcame sexually immoral thoughts , all of that . So we can do it too .
Speaker 1We can do it and we have to do it . You know the Bible says that every thought did you say that we bring into the obedience of Christ .
Speaker 2No , but that
is a great point .
Speaker 1Ephesians I think it's Ephesians that talks about how we have on the full arm of God and one of the things is that we have up the shield of faith to quench all the fiery darts of the enemy . The fiery darts of the enemy are these thoughts You're a failure . You're not going to be anything . You were born this way . You know you've been abused , nobody loves you , nobody cares about you , everybody judges you and you have to put up the shield of faith to quench all the fiery darts of the enemy so what you do , what you think about , does matter , okay , and so if you guys want more as it relates to this , I will jump over to the my alive churchorg page .
Speaker 1The link is in the bio . We did a series last year called Sex God's Way and it was nine parts about how to live sexually pure .
Speaker 1I believe there's some answers you've been looking for over there when it comes to pornography and so many different things , but I want to talk about soul ties today . Okay , and I want to read this part of a book by Dr Daniel Amen . It's called Change your Brain , change your Life . Listen , he says sex is tridimensional experience spirit , soul and body . Anytime you have sex with the person , you bond with them . Whenever a person is sexually involved with another person , a neurochemical change occurs in both of their brains that encourage limbic , emotional bonding .
Speaker 1Limebic bonding is the reason casual sex doesn't really work for most people on a whole mind and body level . Two people may decide to have sex just for the fun of it , yet something is occurring on another level that they might not have decided on at all . Sex is enhancing an emotional bond between them , whether they wanted or not . One person , often the woman , is bound to form an attachment and will be hurt when a casual affair ends . One reason it is usually the woman who is hurt most is that the female limbic system is larger than the males . This is what we call a soul tie . Sex is like glowing two pieces of wood together and the next day ripping them apart .
Speaker 1Of course , wood from the opposite board remains on each board , and a piece of your sex partner , the good , the bad and the ugly , stays with you , and vice versa , for the rest of your life , except until you break the assault , that is .
Speaker 1You can only imagine what it looks like when you bond with multiple partners . Unhealthy soul ties are often the ramifications of having partners that you create a lifelong bond with through a sexual encounter , but with whom you only have a short-term relationship with . The bond which is a soul tie remains long after the relationship is over , leaving both sexual partners longing for wholeness . What's your thought about that ?
Speaker 2My thought is no wonder why so many of us are so messed up in our mind , in our soul like we're so broken , like how we used to be including myself , and no wonder it was so hard for us when we got married those first two years . No , wonder it's so hard for people who are married right now .
Speaker 1Now what I see in the spirit is when , let's just say , jane marries Joe and Jane has been with this guy , that guy , this guy and maybe that girl and Joe , he's been with these two girls at the same time , this girl and this girl and that guy .
Speaker 1And now when they come and they say I do to each other , you only see Joe and Jane at the altar and you don't see all these other people that are attached to their soul , all these other people , all these other people , how she used to kiss you like this , how he used to drop it this way , how he used to spank you , how you and you're judging your current marriage based upon all of these images and experiences that God never intended for you to have . You might have a soul time . We're here to help you today , and so anything else comes to you from Dr Amen , just this , this , this thought about those things .
Speaker 2I think it's . I mean just spot on . If you think about it and you think about a typical relationship and you know the , a casual sex relationship , we said , well , it's just sex , and you know it's just physical .
Speaker 1It's just physical . It's a little bit more than that .
Speaker 2Somebody is going to get hurt Now or later . What ?
Speaker 1was that one movie , friends with Benefits . Yeah , somebody's going to get hurt .
Speaker 2There's no such thing , okay .
Speaker 1There's more to sex than what meets the eye . If you were to define a soul time , what would you say in your own words ?
Speaker 2In my own words it would be a , an , I was gonna say ungodly , but that's not necessarily . It is a connection that you have with another person .
Speaker 1Just a yeah , I would take it a little bit deeper .
Speaker 2Maybe you have spiritual connection with another person .
Speaker 1Well , I think soul .
Speaker 2I think that's the main word that people have to get hold of . Yeah , you're right .
Speaker 1It's a soul tie . It's not a spirit tie .
Speaker 1Because , Jesus is in our spirit as a believer . It is a soul tie . What is your soul , your mind , your will and your emotions ? So you are mentally and emotionally connected to a person that you're no longer with and that soul tie has to get broken . Now I've seen people if you Google it , there always will be somebody and this is just the norm of our day and information
age . Oh , soul tie is not in the Bible . There's no such thing as a soul tie . But just because the phrase soul tie is not in the Bible doesn't mean that that bondage doesn't exist .
Speaker 2Let me help .
Speaker 1The word cancer is not in that Bible , in the Bible . But when cancer shows up , you better get rid of it . That's right . So what we see in the Bible is sickness . Whether it's cancer , hiv , sick of sale , whatever the sickness is , jesus came to heal sickness . What we see in the Bible is bondage . Whether the bondage is a soul tie or something that is named or not named , it is still bondage .
Speaker 2Absolutely .
Speaker 1And so when a person is in a relationship now , anyone who's been a counselor , a psychologist , a therapist they know their soul ties Absolutely . They're dealing with the hurts , habits and hangups of people from their childhood , trauma and what they've been through , and so your soul can be damaged , your soul could need healing , mentally and emotionally . You can have bondage and we need the captive to be set free .
Speaker 2We know that King Solomon had soul ties to the wives that he had that were worshiping other gods , and they persuaded him to worship other gods and not our God . We also know that Samson and Delilah . We know that Samson had a soul tie , quote unquote , with Delilah . That's why he gave up his secrets , that's why he gave up all of the information , because he just yeah , the Bible doesn't call it a soul tie , but we can see it there . I mean , you know what ?
Speaker 1I'm saying you can call it whatever you wanna call it . You can call it deception , you can say he was deceived , you can say it was tricked .
Speaker 2We will say he had a soul tie . Yes , that's what we'll say .
Speaker 1So yeah , I think we also see it contextually with . There's a scripture that says don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers . So that is a yoking . How do you yoke together ? Well , you can have a soul that's tied . Matter of fact , the Bible says that David and Jonathan , their souls were knit together and that was a friendship . That wasn't a bad soul tie . They were friends but they loved each other , like each other .
Speaker 1You know , what I'm saying , and so some soul ties can be good . I think that we have a soul tie . We've been married for 24 years and we have a godly , healthy soul tie . That means that emotionally I'm bound to you , mentally I'm bound to you . I don't wanna be bound to anybody else , but we have a healthy soul tie .
Speaker 2We have a soul tie with our children .
Speaker 1There's a soul tie , there's a level of soul tie . We're bound emotionally and mentally , you can have a soul tie , even with your church . Like I remember , when we left our church to go start the church that we're in , I cried for the first six months because I just I missed the place that I was at I missed my pastors . There was a level I mean I've received the Holy Spirit there . You got healed from 12 years of depression there .
Speaker 1There should be healthy soul ties , but that ain't what we talk about today . We're talking about ungodly , unhealthy soul ties , specifically sexual soul ties that need to get broken . And I wanna give people today seven ways to know if you have a soul tie . Seven ways to know seven signs that you might have an unhealthy soul tie . And for those of you all who are watching or listening , just be honest with yourself . Just listen to these and allow the Holy Spirit to say , ooh , that might be you , because we gonna break it at the end .
Speaker 1Number one you're in a relationship with a person and you feel so attached to them that you refuse to cut off the connection and set boundaries with them . You might have a soul tie . Number two you have left a relationship , maybe long time ago , but you think about that other person obsessively . You cannot get them out your mind . You might have a soul tie . Ooh , I just even someone who's married . You might have a soul tie .
Speaker 1Number three whenever you do anything , make a decision , have a conversation with somebody , you feel like the person is with you or watching you . Okay , you might have a soul tie . When you have sex with somebody else hopefully your husband or wife . You heartily can stop yourself visualizing the other person you used to be with . You might have a soul tie . Number five , and it even includes pornography . Now Some of our souls have been tied to pornography . When we got to break that in Jesus' name Number five you take on the negative traits of the person that your soul is tied to and you carry their offenses , whether or not you actually agree with them . You might have a soul tie . You defend your right to stay in a relationship with the person that your soul is tied to , even though it's negatively affecting or even destroying the important relationships in your life .
Speaker 2You might have a soul tie .
Speaker 1People would rather this ghost a mama , they'd rather lead a church . They would rather resign from their job than deal with that soul tie . And last but not least , number seven you are in a new relationship but find yourself comparing it to your old relationship and just wishing that you could go back . You might have a soul tie and we wanna offer you freedom today .
Speaker 2Anything from that I hear people who are in abusive relationships , domestically violent relationships , and they know they need to get out of it . They broke off the relationship . They're back in the relationship . I grew up in a situation like this and that is an ungodly soul tie that you cannot . That's just pulling you back in when you know that your life could be at risk .
Speaker 1What do we call that battered woman syndrome ?
Speaker 2Battered women syndrome is what it used to be called . They might be a new term now .
Speaker 1And that's where you feel like you can't be without that person . Even though it's abusive , even though it's a bad relationship , your mind and your emotions have been bound there . And we're gonna break that in Jesus name , so that you can be free , okay , anything else .
Speaker 2I think you can have ungodly soul ties from sexually abusive relationships . Maybe in your childhood if you were sexually abused , molested , even rape , date rape there could be some ungodly soul ties that have resulted from that situation . We can break those today in Jesus name .
Speaker 1Yeah , I think a lot of people their perspective of sex is dirty or like I don't wanna meet her needs or I don't wanna meet her needs . They don't look at it from the agape love just because they were violated .
Speaker 1And I apologize for them because they've been a victim to something . But because they were a victim to something , now the worldview on something that's holy and pure has been tainted . We're gonna break that soul tie so that you can be free . Anything else we heart from that . And I think that you're not talking to people who've not experienced those things , yeah , absolutely . You've experienced those things sexual abuse or date rape and we've experienced opening up the door in ungodly ways .
Speaker 1And we're free now and we have a very healthy sex life and this is something that God gives married couples for intimacy and also enjoyment , but I think it's important that we go through and we break every soul tie . That's ungodly okay , and so we wanna get right to it . What can we do then to break a soul tie ?
Speaker 2I have a few things and .
Speaker 1I wanna hear from you as I go through this Number one . You have to admit that you have a soul tie .
Speaker 2Yeah , that's right . I mean I agree , just admitting it is I don't know . I wanna say half the battle is just acknowledging .
Speaker 1Like getting out of denial .
Speaker 2Yes , no denial , acknowledging this is what's happening , taking responsibility where you need to take responsibility .
Speaker 1You feel like you can't go by your device without getting on that site . You feel like you can't have sex without thinking about somebody else . You might have a soul tie . The first thing you gotta do is say , okay , I need help , because from that humility now God will begin to move . Yes , absolutely so . Okay , so , admit you have one . The second thing I would do is I would do a clean sweep and I would destroy gifts , pictures or anything that's a memorabilia from that past old relationship . I think some people hold on to things under their bed or in the back of the closet . You know I got this picture that we took and it was from 10 , 15 years ago . You need to burn that picture , cause that is in the past . You know what I still got ? I got his shirt because I can smell his cologne . No , that's a soul tie . You need to throw that away and move on with your life .
Speaker 1When my pillow still has her perfume on it . Okay , get another pillow . Okay , what's that got to ? Got the pillows now and the got with the nice pillows .
Speaker 2I know who you mean . Yeah , yeah , yeah , yeah , the , the , the , my pillow , my pillow .
Speaker 1get you a my pillow move on from that old , ungodly pillow . All right , we need to get rid of , so you gotta do a clean sweep .
Speaker 1Maybe talk about the demonic a little bit , because there are certain things that we have in our homes that represent all kinds of ungodliness . For me , this is a thing I mean when it comes to even you say that you're just checking on them , but you're really stalking their social media . Sometimes you have to disconnect yourself , Like let them live their life . That's done . It was ungodly , it was wrong . Y'all not together . God wants to move you on . Just go ahead , and it's okay to move on .
Speaker 2Absolutely all of those things Old jewelry . If someone gave you a ring , you need to get rid of that ring . The necklace , the earrings , the dress the shoes . Some of us have . You know , maybe we've been divorced now and we're having a hard time getting over that divorce , but you still have the wedding dress that you're holding on to . You might wanna let that go . I'm not saying that that's God for you , but examine these situations .
Speaker 1Just examine what's bringing in that .
Speaker 2If you cannot get over it . Break off . I don't play . I have thrown away things that have been valuable to me , just because I just don't want ties to it . Vows that I've made not , this isn't sexual , but vows that I made to sororities Like , okay , no , I break that because that's ungodly , that doesn't have anything to do with God , and I don't know if it's for me or if it's just for me , but I break that tie in the name of Jesus . I'm throwing away this jewelry . I'm throwing away these mementos . I don't want ungodly influence in my life . So open the door for Jesus to come in and show you . It might be a picture that you need to throw away . It could be godly things , like a picture of Jesus . It could be a picture , you know , praying hand , something that's tying you to a certain person . Let it go .
Speaker 1Okay , interesting . My next thing would be if you want to break a soul tie , you got to seek deliverance , seek deliverance . Now let's talk about deliverance real quickly . When you accept Jesus , you receive the deliverer .
Speaker 2Yes .
Speaker 1So deliverance and healing is a part of your salvation package , it's a part of the sozo . So you say , Jesus , come into my heart . Healing and deliverance steps in . But what we found is that just because the prison doors have been opened doesn't mean that the prisoner steps out . And so I don't know . We've been in ministry over two decades and I believe that a lot of deliverance just happens when you sit under the word and you do it .
Speaker 2The Bible says this , do it .
Speaker 1The Bible says this , do it . The Bible says this , do it . You don't really need people to lay hands on you , just do the word and you will see yourself being delivered from a bad attitude , from a little white lie , just as you renew your mind and you go through what we call sanctification , which is the maturation process . Right , but every once in a while there's about 10% of times where you need someone to take you through deliverance . Okay , now let me be clear . The Bible talks about demons and it talks about demonology evil spirits , all right . In the center of the gospel was healing the sick and casting out devils . Now , I know that maybe this might not be the most popular doctrine . I believe different denominations , different people got all kinds of different things , but I'm not accountable to that . I'm accountable to the word of God and the word of God . God gives us authority to cast out demons , all right . Now there's the different kinds of demonic activity . We have possession and then we have oppression , and I think I wanna do a segment called Deliverance for the Believer .
Speaker 1I think we're gonna bring that within the next few weeks , because even though you're saved in your spirit , it doesn't mean that every You've walked out of every prison door . It doesn't mean that you cannot have an oppressive spirit . I don't believe that , as a believer , you can be possessed , meaning that the devil does not have control over you , because Jesus has control over you . But through 20 years of ministry , let me just tell you you can definitely be oppressed , and there are a lot of people that they believe in Jesus , but they have not closed the door , they have not broken a curse . They are leaving a door open to actually what we call demonic oppression and they need deliverance . And so my word to everybody is that if that's you , you have to seek it . When it comes to soul ties and you finally realize I got one . Okay , I'm gonna seek it , I'm gonna figure out what I gotta do to get set free .
Speaker 2Yeah , it's so good and most of the time , like you said , it is our authority in Jesus Christ , our own authority , that will cast out an oppressive spirit , a tormenting spirit , a demonizing spirit , and but then there are times where there are things that we have done that have opened doors and we have to address those issues . And as we address those issues , deliverance comes .
I hear the Lord saying unforgiveness . Unforgiveness , I feel like unforgiveness is one of the biggest doors that people open .
Speaker 2I believe so .
Speaker 1It's unforgiveness .
Speaker 2Unforgiveness , bitterness , anger , resentment , hatred .
Speaker 1And the Bible says that we have to forgive because we've been forgiven much , and so we have to forgive because of what we've been forgiven . It doesn't matter how bad it was and what they did to you , and many times the reason that somebody hurt you is because they were hurt when they were little , and we can trace it all the way back to the fall of man in the garden and when sin entered in . And so if you want your father to forgive you , you have to forgive others , and that's a huge door to close .
Speaker 2But it is , but it happens , you know . And so when it comes to like soul ties , sometimes we can be in sexual relationships with people who are involved in witchcraft . Or maybe they weren't involved in witchcraft , but their grandmother was with the spirit is with them , and now you've got involved with them and now there's something that's following you around , or they could have been involved in , you know , addictive spirits you know , like , whatever it is , whatever their generational thing that they've been dealing with .
Speaker 2And now you're like but why would that happen to me ? I've never done this . Well , you , you didn't . You opened the door when you let that person in and became soul tied with them . And now that demonic spirit has a right to you because you've given them access , You've opened the door .
Speaker 1We're cutting it off .
Speaker 2It doesn't necessarily mean that you're dumb , stupid , evil or intentionally doing things , but the devil doesn't play fair . If you open the door , he will come in . And so what I found in my life was that I was depressed for 12 years of my life . I got saved . At the time that I got saved I was depressed for 10 years , I believe . At salvation I was delivered from the spirit of suicide . At salvation I was suicidal , having suicidal thoughts , and when I got saved that spirit of suicide , I never had another suicidal thought . That was amazing . But I went on for two more years still being severely depressed , taking medication Jesus still depressed .
Speaker 1Believed in , accepted . Jesus , still depressed . Yes , many people are hearing this they love Jesus . Still depressed , still bound , still addicted , still something there's hope .
Speaker 2Still tormented by a spirit of fear , still can't sleep at night , still afraid of the dark , still being terrorized .
Speaker 2And so when I got filled with the Holy Spirit and got power and when I learned about the word of God that I can speak to , that I realized that what I was dealing with wasn't just some sickness that I just picked up like a germ somewhere , that I was dealing with the spirit of depression . When I realized that I took authority over the spirit of depression and I told it to go . And now , as a believer , I took authority and I actually remember the day it was I saw kind of like a dark shadow lift off of my body and I saw it leave our house and leave through the walls of our home . And from that day that was over 20 years ago I've never been depressed again . I'm delivered . I was delivered from the spirit of depression . So that is the difference between , like I'm a believer , I wasn't possessed , you know , I wasn't , you know , doing all kinds of crazy stuff and the spirit of depression taking over me , but I was definitely influenced by demonic spirits .
Speaker 1Okay , you know , what I like about that story is that nobody had to lay hands on you or necessarily . You just spoke the word of God , used your authority and you saw it leave . I want to ask you a question about that , though , because I think this is a common question . My question was do you believe that everyone who has depression has a spirit of depression that needs to get cast out ? I don't , okay , I don't . Can you explain that very quickly ?
Speaker 2I think that there is . I mean , let me explain it like this , like if you know getting a cold , you know , like , all right , there is like I haven't been eating or drinking right , I haven't been taking care of my body . I'm not confessing the word of God over my life , and you know what I was with all of these kids , they all runny noses and all of this stuff , and it was in the middle of flu season and here I am with the cold and don't . I wouldn't say that that is a spirit of sickness attacking my body . You know what I mean ? I think that I did some things in the natural to open the door and I got some bacteria , came in , gave me a cold .
Speaker 2Now , not that I'm not going to handle it in spiritual , you know ways . I'm going to pray , I'm going to do all of that and you know , tell sickness to go , but I don't really believe that that was a spiritual issue . Okay , um , but I do think that now , if every single time there's a flu season come around , three or four times a year , I always get sick because , well , that , oh , it's flu season . I know I'm going to get sick . Let me get out my vitamin C and vitamin D . Let me do , let me prepare to take off work and everything , because I always get sick in the flu season . That might be a demonic spirit .
Speaker 1That might be a demonic so , to answer my question about depression , you don't feel like it has to be , so it can be a chemical imbalance .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1But I mean , who knows ? You know , it could be the spirit that's causing a chemical imbalance . I guess what I'm saying is to us . Not everything is a devil .
Speaker 2Not everything is a spirit .
Speaker 1Some things are because we live in a fallen , broken world , but I think there's a whole lot of things that are the devil that people don't even know . It is yes
.
Speaker 2But I will say this I believe that even if it isn't a spiritual issue , God can still fix it . If it's a natural , it's , you know , like . So if I'm depressed , okay , I don't have to cast out the spirit of depression , but I can pray for God to heal me , and then I can still be healed . So there was healing . Jesus healed and he cast out demons . He healed and he cast out demons .
Speaker 2Those are the two things that are plaguing society today , all of us today , and so I think , either way , there's healing and deliverance , right , right , you know , for the believer .
Speaker 1I mean , I could break that down just for people to understand , but I think I want to move on . Okay , you know , and just let it be where it is . But I want to go back to soul ties , and so we're going to do , we're going to do , we're going to uh , we finally got to realize that . We admit that we have one . We're going to do a clean sweep . All right , we're going to seek deliverance . We are going to here's the next one Renounce the behavior and any ungodly vows or commitments that we've made .
Speaker 2The word is renounce , renounce .
Speaker 1So you have to renounce . Okay , renounce the sexual immorality , renounce pornography , renounce adultery , renounce homosexuality , renounce fornication , renounce abuse . You have to say I use the authority that Jesus has given me and I now stand against it . Okay , anything else on renouncing .
Speaker 2I like to say . Renounce is like you know , I break up with you . Okay , I give up my , my rights , my privilege , privileges , any vows . You know this relationship I have . I'm done with this . No , I
