Speaker 1I feel , like we've done over a hundred of these episodes and we've seen people's marriages be restored . People have stopped . We got a letter the other day where somebody was headed for divorce and they got hold of this episode that we did and now they are fighting for their marriage and it's getting better and better every day .
Speaker 2That's the best reward . That's the best reward . That's why we do this .
Speaker 1That's why we do what we do , and so the best thing that you could do would just be share your story with us , share your testimony with us , write a positive review like comment and definitely share , because people around the world need positive , spirit-filled content . We've got a great one today , because we're going to talk about humility , and this is kind of our thing right now . Oh man , I meant to wear my humility shirt for this . I got a humble pie shirt that I wanted to wear , but I think that this one transcends relationships . I think we need humility in every aspect of our life , but we need a lot of it in marriage why ?
Speaker 1do you think that humility in marriage is important ?
Speaker 2Oh , because there's so much conversation , compromise , the two become one , and so often there's a lot that we have to lay down . There's a lot of us that you have to lay down in order to become one , and I think that it's just . I don't know if you can do it without humility .
Speaker 1Right . Yeah , I think that there's a lot of people that are struggling in the relationship . There are people watching right now that they are thinking about divorce . Some people are separated . Some people have already been divorced . They're in a second marriage or third marriage . There are some people here who man , they're in marriage and it's okay .
Speaker 1but it's not great and I would venture to say that and I'm going to just step out and you just correct it if it's wrong All of the marriage problems that people face . If you pull it back , pride is there somewhere .
Speaker 2Wow .
Speaker 1Do you think that's accurate ?
Speaker 2I mean it's close to it . I mean some people have problems because they've been hurt .
Speaker 1Some people are just or there's a sickness or a battle like that .
Speaker 2Yeah , sickness , yeah , yeah , so it's you know .
Speaker 1But let's take all those A lot of it . Oh yeah , yeah , yeah , a lot , not all . A lot yeah .
Speaker 2But yeah , pride is a big one .
Speaker 1Yeah . Pride is there telling you that you don't need to apologize . Let them apologize first . Pride is they're telling you oh , don't go into counseling , you just keep this to yourself , you don't need anybody in your business . Pride is they're telling you that the way that we're going to win this is that , oh , you're not meeting my needs , so I'm going to have somebody else . Pride is they're telling you that your needs are not being met .
Speaker 2So you need to get them met , by somebody that you work with or in this other . I think pride puffs up . Pride is that thing that makes you . You feel it rising up in you , you feel yourself getting more and more angry , you feel yourself becoming offensive and you know it goes back and forth and back and forth and you get more and more . You know , like crazy . I think pride is at the root of that .
Speaker 1Yeah , yeah , you know . They say that the root to all sin is pride . The root to all sin , because pride was the sin that got Lucifer kicked out of heaven . And Isaiah , he says , I want to be like God , I want to exalt my throne , and then the Bible says that he was kicked out of heaven .
Speaker 2And what do you think about ? So he's kicked out of heaven and then you have Adam and Eve in the earth . Now they were disobedient to God . That was sin . But what caused the disobedience ? Perhaps it was pride , because he said if you do this , then you'll be like God . And perhaps pride said well , I want to be like God which was dumb , because we're already like God , but yeah that's exactly where I'm going .
Speaker 1Pride is what got Satan kicked , lucifer kicked out of heaven . Pride is what got Adam and Eve kicked out of the garden . The question is , what is pride getting you kicked out of ? And for many of us , pride is getting you kicked out of the blessed marriage that you should have , just because you don't know how to humble yourself and serve and honor and lift up and you take matters into your own hands instead of leaving them in the hands of the Lord . And it's the same thing . Pride was like okay , eve , god don't want you to be like him , but if you eat this , then you're going to be like him . But you were already like God . But there was something that she said okay , I want more , already like God , but there was something that she said okay , I want more .
Speaker 1And so that pride is the root to all sin . You say , well , why does a person steal ? Well , it can probably go back down to pride . You're trying to look better off to people , have more money than what you need to have . You're going at it the wrong way . Why does a person cheat A level of pride ? You want your needs to be met . You don't like how your spouse is not meeting your physical needs and you want what you want . I mean , it can all go down to pride . And so I think if we can eradicate pride , we can move marriages from here to here . You know , this is like one of those things where somebody who's watching is like okay , why am I ?
Speaker 1watching this video . You're watching it because the Holy Spirit has you watching this because you need it Not just to project it upon your spouse or upon who you're with , but to really get it deep down in your heart . And there are benefits we're going to go over at the end , three benefits of humility , which is the opposite of pride . And so let's start by defining humility . How would you define it ?
Speaker 2Humility , my mind goes to a biblical definition like meekness thinking , a lowliness of mind , you know kind of thing which is like not thinking less of yourself , but not thinking more of yourself than what you should . I think Paul says it like not more than what you ought to think .
Speaker 1Yeah , I like want to make this topic sexier than what it sounds like because I just don't see .
Speaker 1I think sometimes we want stuff with so much sugar and chocolate syrup on it , but sometimes that if you eat too much of that it'll rot your teeth out . Yeah , we need like meat and potatoes and vegetables and sometimes when we post something that's like three benefits of humility , it doesn't get the track record because it doesn't have the sauce and the candy on it , but it's what you need for health , like I want to make this sexy to where people don't tune out Like listen . The greatest shortcut to success is humility . If you and your career are trying to get up the ladder I'm climbing the ladder , I'm climbing the ladder God is going to bring you down , because if you lift up yourself , the Bible says you're going to come down . But if you can get low , god is going to lift you up , Meaning that if you can humble yourself , he will exalt you in the right season . Success , promotion , exaltation , god's best . It comes when people develop a humble heart
and a humble attitude .
Speaker 2I think what people need to understand too is that there's , um , you know , humility will allow god to to lift you up . Pride allows the enemy or yourself to lift you up . Now there's like a pride where you see , um , maybe it's unsaved people , maybe they're rock stars , musicians , football , football players , famous people , actors , you know whoever . Maybe they're CEOs , fortune 500 company . You see a lot of people who you would say , oh well , they're unsaved . But look at them on this platform , they're lifted up and it seems like , oh , they're not humble at all because they say this , they give no glory to God and they say , well , you know , because I did this and I did that , they sound like Lucifer . All of these things . Right , I did all of these things . However , they're still , they're exalted as a believer . You can be exalted by pride and you can be an unbeliever and be exalted by pride , but you're not guaranteed to stay there . You know what I mean .
Speaker 2And pride , you know , at one point will bring you low , I think , for the believer . A lot of believers get exalted into position , sometimes out of pride . You know , you can exalt yourself and get into prideful places , but then you are brought low . But I consider that a gift of God when you're brought low . Some people get out there and they're in this business or that business or they're doing things that they know they shouldn't have been doing , or they went out there what they should be doing and they took a left turn and they knew they got off of the place of God and then they fell down and now they're humiliated or they feel like this and then they blame it on God . It ain't God's fault . Consider that a blessing that your pride brought you low . Now get on track again and do it the right way . Humble yourself , and God will make sure you're exalted and you won't fall .
Speaker 1Humility is what's up .
Speaker 2Humility .
Speaker 1Say that with me , humility is what's up I want you to say it like I said .
Speaker 2Why do you want me to say that ?
Speaker 1Because , you're my congregation today .
Speaker 2What did you say ?
Speaker 1I said humility is what's up . Hum , humility is what's up . Humility is what's up why you got to say it all like an English professor . You got to say it all with perfect vernacular .
Speaker 2I can't say it in your slang Humility is what's up . Humility is what's up .
Speaker 1Humility .
Speaker 2Humility .
Speaker 1There you go , girl that doesn't , I can't say it .
Speaker 1What is humility ? Well , the Bible describes humility as meekness , lowliness and absence of self . The Greek word translated humility in Colossians 3.12 and elsewhere , literally means lowliness of mind . So we see that humility is a heart attitude and not merely an outward demeanor . One may put an outward show of humility on , but still have a heart full of pride and arrogance . Jesus says that those who are poor in spirit would have the kingdom of heaven . So being poor in spirit means that only those who admit to an absolute bankruptcy of spiritual worth will inherit eternal life . Therefore , humility is a prerequisite for the Christian . And so when I think of humility , simply put , I think of the word lowliness of mind . And you were right , and it wasn't just Paul . Paul talked about not thinking of yourself more highly than you ought .
Speaker 1Cs Lewis , who was a theologian , a British theologian author , says that humility is not thinking less of yourself , but thinking of yourself less . So humility is not you beating yourself down and making yourself poor just to be poor . Some people think and they've taken vows of poverty in certain denominations like the more I can be poor , the more humble I am . No , you're just broke . To be honest , there's a lot of poor people that still have pride in their heart . So that's not the key , that's not the definition of humility . Then there's some rich people who have material goods but they have a humble heart .
Speaker 1Humility is not walking with your head down without confidence . There's like this tight rope that we need humility but we also need confidence . Many people see confident people and they mistake it for cockiness , because there's a thin line between confidence and cockiness . You say , well , what's the difference ? What the source is . So if your source is like you give all credit to yourself , that's cockiness . If your source is like you give all credit to yourself , that's cockiness . If your source is that you give all the glory to God , well then that's confidence . And the scripture says don't cast away your confidence for it has great recompense of reward .
Speaker 1So you need confidence that when you lay hands on a sick they'll recover , that when you decree a thing it'll be established that when you sow a seed , harvest , because faith is confidence , and without faith it's impossible to please God .
Speaker 1We need to know that . We know that . We know that no weapon formed against me shall prosper . But you can be confident and also be humble is what I'm saying , and so if I had to define humility , I would also say it's the opposite of pride . You know , you have pride over here and then you have humility over here , and humility is something that we should pursue intentionally and also develop , because it has great rewards . All right , do you like prideful people ?
Speaker 2Not really .
Speaker 1Yeah , why is that Kind of a turn off ? Yeah , in which way ?
Speaker 2It's you feel like you know you're having conversation . It's almost like they have this unkind kind of vibe to where , like you know you're having a conversation , you're like , well , I know that , right , instead of being like , oh , I didn't know that , enlighten me . Well , I knew that . And then they say something else really dumb out of their mouth which lets you know even further that they did not know that , and you're just like okay , okay , god bless you , can you ?
Speaker 1think of somebody who's prideful yes okay , who are you thinking of ?
Speaker 2I'm not gonna tell you um yeah why'd you make that face ? Who are you thinking about ?
Speaker 1I um , yeah , if you think of a prideful person , a prideful people aren't people you want to be around . Yeah , you know , I'm saying , it's just something a little irritating , it's just annoying like okay , all right , you all , that you everything Can't nobody tell you anything I don't know about . About you Proud for people I want to stay away from , humble people I'm attracted to , yeah , I want to be
around . Do you feel that way ? Yeah , definitely .
Speaker 2Why , I don't know . I feel like when I'm around humble people , they draw me in . I want to know . So how do you live your life like ? This Tell me , because I know that your life isn't perfect , but you have this kind of joy about you . How do you have that joy ? What has been your journey in life , in your ups and downs , that led you ? How do you ? What is your perspective , Because then I can learn from it you know , and I grow from it and it just feeds me .
Speaker 2But the other way around it's just kind of like well , I can't get anything from you . I obviously can't give anything to you , because you know everything .
Speaker 1So ain't no need for us to be in the room together , come on .
Speaker 2What are we doing here ?
Speaker 1I've been around what people will consider to be very successful people , and their humility would be the most amazing thing . Yeah , like , have you ever been around somebody and you leave them and you're just like man ? They were so down to earth . You ever heard people say that what they're saying is that they have this status ? But man , they were just like me , they were touchable and I think that every believer when people leave our presence , they should be like they were just down to earth . What that means is that that , even though they have money , platform , notoriety , they were still humble and touchable and pliable .
Speaker 2Yeah , and I I don't know about anyone else , I want that so much for me , I think so and you know what , I just wanted to take a minute and speak to young people , like young professionals in your 20s , even in your 30s . Sometimes I remember being in my 20s and 30s and being really probably insecure and not confident , but wanting to like in business and stuff . I'm sure there are times where I came off prideful because I wanted to play the part and I wanted to act like I was something that I wasn't . What I wasn't was experienced , but it's okay , you know , to like I would say , be truthful .
Speaker 2We had , um , someone who worked for us a little while back and I remember they started working for us , Right , and um , they came into our home , they were doing services for us in our home and I was just like hi , you know whatever . And we would have conversations and I was trying to get them to do things . Like I was like well , I don't like it if you do it like this , can you do it like this ? And they're like well , my high profile clients , they all want me to do it like this . And I would be like , okay , well , that doesn't really work for me , can we do it like this ? And I would say something else and like she kept telling me about these high profile clients .
Speaker 2And I was like I'm gonna choose not to be offended , but I could tell , like I used to do what you do . Okay , I've been there Like I love what you do , you know what I mean , but I just need your services . And she was coming off very prideful and like I knew that she was young .
Speaker 1And she was new in her business and new in her business and you don't know what you're doing , but I didn't care that she was new . Yeah , we're cool with it .
Speaker 2I'm just like , if I just do it like this , as long as you're doing your job , I'll teach you Like there's nothing wrong with being new . In fact , I love people who are new because I think you're hungry .
Speaker 2I think when you make a mistake , you're ready to prove yourself Like . I'm okay with that . But that's my advice to young people , young professionals like don't allow pride . You don't have to walk in pride , but take the humble road and be like hey , yes , this , I'm new at this . Here's what I bring to the table as a new person , or or what do you think about it ?
Speaker 1Or what do you think about this ? Yeah , I think I'm proud for people who always make statements . Humble people ask questions , absolutely , you know , and um , but yeah , I want to be that person and um , I'm , I'm working very hard on it , you know , because for most of us , pride is very natural , it's very fleshy , it's easy to get in pride .
Speaker 1Um , humility is something we really have to work on , and one way that I can tell the difference is are you a person that is willing to give God all the glory ? I learned years ago never touch God's three Gs . Don't touch his gold , don't do improper things with money , don't touch his girls or guys , depending upon who you are and don't touch his glory . I don't want to touch the glory of God . So what I have in my life is not because my work ethic and how amazing I am and how smart I am and the degree that I have and all that . It's to God be the glory .
Speaker 1Now I know that I have a work ethic and he's used my talents , but it's to him be the glory . And I just feel like too many times we're like taking some of the glory from God and everything that's good in my life to him be the glory . And when you set yourself to give God glory , he doesn't mind elevating you , but if you take his glory , he's going to bring you low . And I think there's a lot of people that they think they got where they got because of their grind their networking ability , their work ethic , the way they do things , their creative , their athleticism .
Speaker 1You see it in athletics , you see it in Hollywood . We just worked hard . I just got a great team . Somebody needs to stop all that nonsense and say to God be the glory . He gave me this creative eye , he put these wonderful people in my life . If it had not been for the Lord on my side .
Speaker 2I love it . Yeah , I love how God plays a part in things . You know , I talk to our kids . I try to practice humility , even with our kids , and that's a big thing for me that I've been working on lately . We have teenagers now three teenagers and yeah , they have their own thoughts and they're developing into their own people . But sometimes it's just wrong . Most of the time it's just wrong .
Speaker 1And you're like what in the ?
Speaker 2world , and so you want to lose your humility , lose your salvation , everything , and just get those kids . I'm telling you for me personally , but I am practicing humility with our kids like okay , because they don't even know what they do . So it's just like all right , I'm going to pull myself way down because I could tell you this , that and the other . I could just break it down to you right now , but I'm not going to . I'm extending humility to them and you know from myself and I think that goes a long way and then also teaching our children , you know , to be humble and embrace those God given gifts .
Speaker 2Like okay , because each of our children are different and God created them different ways , different personalities . So if one of our children they're worshippers , singer , play the piano , like everything and like he's amazing , but I'm always reminding him it's God that gave you that ability . Because what made you a musician and you an actor and you a pastor and you a truck driver ? All of us have different skilled sets and different things , but it's God who gave you the gift . So , no matter how good you get , how great you are , yeah , you did something , but who gave you the gift in the first place ?
Speaker 1Well , that's what you know . We were watching the Olympics not too long ago and I was so impressed with I think her name is Sydney McLaughlin .
Speaker 2Sydney McLaughlin yeah .
Speaker 1You know I was so impressed of how intentional she was to give God the glory .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1To be on the biggest platform to , I think , broken like five world records .
Speaker 2She's breaking her own records . That was her own world records . Okay , there's no one close
.
Speaker 1I just want to give God the glory , meaning that , listen , I have this . I'm not all that . I have this ability . I have , like , a God-given ability , and I want you all to recognize that this wasn't just me , this was he . There's just something special about a person that's humble enough to give God the glory , so I got some practical things . These are just like characteristics of humble people . Humble people don't have to be right all the time , you know . Jump into any of this .
Speaker 2You know that's a big one . I hate being wrong , but I'm wrong so often and I've just know . I mean , I know this now . I mean , you know , I've been working on this for a while . I know that I like to be right , I like to be a perfectionist , I like to you know all of those things , but I've given myself permission to be wrong you know , like OK , I made a mistake , it's OK , and then also none of us want to be wrong .
Speaker 2None of us want to be wrong , but I can be very prideful in that you know , like it like , if you ask me something , tabitha , hey , what do you think about this ? What do you think about this ? I could be dead wrong and not know anything , but I say it , my personality , says it in the as like , as a matter of fact , as fact , this is what it is and I didn't mean it as a fact , but that's how I presented it and there's a little tone of a hint of pride in there . You know what I mean . So again , for me , I locate myself like I'm always working on that to make sure that I'm not prideful .
Speaker 1I'm going to send you this podcast later on .
Speaker 2Hey , you don't need to tell me , this is the thing . So this is another marriage lesson right here . Sometimes , as a spouse , we want to tell our other spouse and preach to them . But , sometimes you don't have to say nothing because they already know they're working on it .
Speaker 1All right , all right . How about this one ? They're working on it . All right , all right . How about this one ? They don't think they know it all . They don't think they know it all .
Speaker 2Well , that's another one that I'm working on .
Speaker 1We want to move from being a know-it-all to a learn-it-all . You know you got to come to the place where your know-it-all days are over with .
Speaker 2You want to be a learn-it-all .
Speaker 1Yeah , but you are Respect of person . You know a lot of people will treat the athlete or the CEO or the pastor with great respect , but disrespect the poor or the widow or the person who doesn't have a title . So , no respect of person means that we treat people equally because they're equally creation .
Speaker 2Absolutely .
Speaker 1And I think that's huge . That's what humble people do . Humble people are slow to cast judgments , you know . I know that we have righteous judgment where I can tell what's right or wrong , but judgment has this superiority thing where it's like I'm judging you because I'm judging that you're beneath me . It's almost like one of the things that I don't like about some pastor Conferences that we have to is like the first question that people ask you is like oh , how many people go to your church ? It's almost like they're trying to peg you so that they can put themselves , put you below them or above them . Like no , just ask me about who I am as a person . Get to know me , you know , for just being who I am .
Speaker 1It's just like if someone wants to know , okay , where do you work ? At , they're trying to almost like identify you a little bit . Like don't judge me because of where I work , Don't judge me because that is more than any of those numbers .
Speaker 2It's a great self-check . I think pride is something that we have to do regularly maintenance checks , like am I walking in pride in different areas ? Because it's a sneaky thing that can sneak up on you . So , like you know , I was raised in the projects . We didn't have a lot of money , things like that .
Speaker 2And if you were to ask someone like in you know , back then , are you prideful ? We would be like , no , I'm not prideful , because you know I take it because even in the projects we volunteered and help people who were poorer than us you know what I mean and we would volunteer at , like , soup kitchens and things like that . So we would say , no , I'm definitely not prideful . I help the poor and we go down to the Salvation Army and we give meals to people . But then , in the same question , if you asked us about , maybe , somebody who was wealthy oh , but what do you think about this guy over here that owns this company ? Oh , yeah , but no , I don't like him at all because he just has all this money . They don't care about that . But now you all of a sudden became prideful . You went from humility and serving people to being prideful because you're better than them , because you view them as rich and snobby and they have all this money because they're greedy and they did illegal things to get to the top . They're a liar .
Speaker 1They're a cheater , and that's typically not true . They got to the top because they were typically not based upon principle .
Speaker 2So I said that to say pride is sneaky and no matter what your background is and stuff , it sneaks in there .
Speaker 1Wow . I think humble people are quick to apologize . I think they're amazingly grateful , like I'm looking for people around me that are just thankful . Thank you for letting me be in a room , thank you for letting me be a part of the team , thank you for letting me be a part of the church , thank you . Thank you , jesus , for breath to breathe . Thank you that my heart's beating today . Thank you , lord , that I have people around me that care for me . I mean , there's just so much to be thankful for , and I think sometimes we take things for granted because we kind of feel like we did it ourselves , like , well , we're in this church because they need us , we're volunteering because they need us , so forth and so on . That's a pretty profitable position to have .
Speaker 1I think humble people are coachable , pliable , teachable . They're just coachable . They're teachable . It's not like , well , I'm 60 years old , I know everything . What I've learned is the older I get , the more I don't know . And so in my 20s , you couldn't tell me anything . Now I'm open to learn everything , because the older I get , the Now I'm open to learn everything , because the older I get , the more I realize how much I don't know . And so I think that humble people are teachable and coachable . But I want to give you these three benefits of humility and for those of you all who are taking notes , you can write this down , if not just check these out . Number one is riches , honor and life . That's a benefit of humility . I think there's some people that want riches , they want honor , they want life , but they've never connected it to humility . Proverbs 22 and four , it says by humility and the fear of the Lord are riches , honor and life . Riches , riches , honor and life are promises from God for the humble . I'll take that . Yeah , what sticks out to you there ? Anything ?
Speaker 2No , just the riches , honor and life . I mean , it's kind of a different topic , but you know , just with the riches , honor and life , that is something that is , you know , a reward from God . It's something that God gives riches he gives honor he gives life .
Speaker 1So God perspective , like some people something that God gives riches , he gives honor , he gives life , so um . Or you're saying , like some people wouldn't think that riches come from yeah .
Speaker 2We well , we talked about humility , and humility meaning okay , well , I'm poor , I give all my money away . I don't drive a nice car or , you know , wear a nice watch . You know , God gives riches .
Speaker 1Well , unfortunately , what happens and this happens wherever there's like doctrinal debate , denominational streams , where some people say this is wrong or this is right it's usually because people are over-focusing on one scripture without proper hermeneutics of other scriptures . So there are denominations that have taken vows of poverty because they believe the poorer you are , the more you're like Jesus . But the problem is that if the Bible promises us riches , they can't even get that through their theological reference point . If they have that belief , so then they have to make it be spiritual riches , and everything is about spiritual richness . That can't be talking about material .
Speaker 1But that's not biblically accurate , because God gave material like possessions to Abraham , hezekiah , solomon , david , jesus in 2 Corinthians 8 , 9 . It says that Jesus was rich but became poor so that we , through his poverty , might be rich . And so if you have that theological framework , you then have to move all of that through the filter of poverty , and it's just completely incorrect . Now , of course , the Bible talks about not loving money , trusting money , serving money , worshiping money , coveting after money , but it never says don't have it , god doesn't mind that you have it . Matter of fact , it can be a blessing from God if it's done properly . And so we just got to be very careful not to put God in just the spiritual box when he wants to be the God of our spirit , soul , body , sex lives , material lives , financial lives and everything . And part of the promise of God for the humble is riches , honor and also life , the abundant life that comes in Christ Jesus , it's powerful .
Speaker 2You put riches and abundance in the hands of an evil man or an immoral man and you're going to have a certain result If you put riches and abundance in my hands .
Speaker 1We're going to build some campuses . We're going to reach 2 million , 20 million people . I'm going to build churches .
Speaker 2I'm going to build hospitals , I'm going to build orphanages . I'm going to build apartment buildings and schools . I already know exactly what we want to do ?
Speaker 1We want to build a dream center in Orlando . We're going to make sure that the poor get off the street . We're going to preach to the rich and to the poor we're going to , we're going to build youth programs out so the devil can't have our next generation . You know , and I think that that's what God wants to do for humble people . So if we just stay humble , god put the right people around us . They have the similar dream .
Speaker 1Number two , the second benefit to what is it ? Honor ? I mean humility would be wisdom , wisdom . And Proverbs 11.2 says it this way when pride comes , then comes disgrace . Watch this . But with the humility comes wisdom . I'm sorry , with humility comes wisdom , wisdom . And so , if you need wisdom , who should I date ? Who should I marry ? What church should I go to ? What career path should I go on ? What should I do about this difficult decision ? Well , get humble and go before God . Now , I believe that the reason that many people don't have a prayer life is because they depend on themselves more than they do God . Why there's prayerlessness ? If I ask the average Christian hey , how's your prayer life ? It's not that good . Why ? Well , you got decisions you're making all day long . You just ask your mom , you ask your friends . You Google it more than go to God .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1But humility says God , I don't want to make a decision without coming to you , god , I don't want to make a decision without coming to you . Not just the big decisions . Most people , man , if you don't know what to do and somebody's on life support in the hospital , they say oh God , oh God , please step in and help . But I want to go to God for the little things all day , every day , breakfast , lunch , dinner . I want to say God , give me some wisdom on this . What should I do ? You ?
Speaker 2know what I'm saying , what ? I went to God the other day . I needed strength and courage and faith . I was in my office and no one was home . No one , you weren't home and I picked up my bag and there was a bug . It was the biggest nastiest . It looked like an overgrown roach , like it was just the biggest bug . You could see every leg . It was ridiculous right . And I saw the bug and I was just like , oh snap , look how big that bug is . And so it started walking and it put itself in a corner and just like stayed there . So I said I sat there and stared at the bug because I didn't want to kill it , because then it makes a crunch and it's so disgusting I didn't know what to do . So I just said our God is an awesome God . He reigns in heaven . But I just sat there and literally broke out in that song and sang the whole verse .
Speaker 1Did the Lord send an angel to come get the bug for ?
Speaker 2you no , but I was strengthened and I put my trust in God and I went out and got Kenny's shoe and killed the bug and some disinfectant wipes and all of that and I just but I did it . I had the bravery , I handled it , but I needed God . I humbled myself before the Lord . I'm telling you it was a traumatic experience .
Speaker 1Well , this five minutes of this podcast has been brought to you by scaredofbugscom .
Speaker 2But I wasn't afraid . I felt the emotion of fear , but I overcame that fear and smashed the bug . That's the moral of the story . Now , what were we talking about ? The moral of the story was that you go to God , with everything you go to God , with everything you went to God to overcome , I did the bug . I did
.
Speaker 1Okay , thank you for that , you're welcome , that was valuable , but Proverbs 11 says when . So it lets me know that pride is going to come . It's not like you overcome it . It's not like I hear one podcast on pride and then I'm good .
Speaker 1It's going to come next year . It's going to come 10 years away . So as long as we're this side of heaven , pride's going to come , meaning that we're going to be tempted with it , and we got to put it underneath our feet and what I found is that the higher level , the higher devil of pride that you have to arrest and put underneath your feet when you grow your social media platform from 5,000 to 10,000 , pride's coming when you go from having a small office to a big office . Pride's coming when you get married but all of your friends are still single . Pride's coming when you take that small company and you make it a big company . Pride's coming when you have that home and then you got a boat .
Speaker 1Pride's coming . And when pride comes , you just got to make sure that you put it underneath your feet and continue to walk in humility . Wisdom comes with humility . But number three , the third benefit of humility , is grace .
Speaker 2Grace .
Speaker 1Grace , wonderful grace . James 4 , 6 says that God opposes the proud but he gives grace to the humble . This scripture is crazy because God opposes the proud but he gives grace to the humble . This scripture is crazy because God opposes the proud Like I don't care if people oppose me , social media people , whatever you can oppose , I don't want God to oppose me . But God opposes the proud , but he gives grace . He gives grace to the humble . What sticks out to you ?
Speaker 2Oh , that word oppose Just what you said , that I don't want to be an enemy of God , like if God opposes you .
Speaker 1you're just toast . I don't want it . I don't want it , You're just done .
Speaker 2You know , like if you're an enemy of God , or like you're done like , you have no hope . Why would I even know , please ? Yeah , that'll make you humble yourself .
Speaker 1You know this word , grace , is so powerful We've classically defined it as unmerited favor , grace . But that's not the only definition of grace . The other definition is like just God's supernatural empowerment upon us .
Speaker 2I like that definition .
Speaker 1Meaning that I'm graced to be a pastor , I'm graced to be a husband .
Speaker 2I'm graced to be a father , and what other people would be like ? I mean , it's so hard when I'm graced to be a pastor .
Speaker 1I'm graced to be a husband , I'm graced to be a father , and what other people would be like ? I mean , it's so hard when I'm graced to do it . So , everyone , we're graced to do certain things . But the word grace also can mean spiritual gifts , or gifts of the Holy Spirit , or the anointing of the Holy Spirit . The word grace , even in James 4 , 6 , if you look it up , it comes from a Greek word , charis , c-h-a-r-i-s . And there's another word which is a compound word , charisma , which I mean charis is the root word to charisma , not a compound word . It's a root word to charisma and charisma means gifts of the spirit .
Speaker 1So if you're reading James 4 , 6 , you could kind of inject this God opposes the proud , but he gives gifts of the Holy Spirit to the humble . He gives working of miracles to the humble , he gives healing to the humble . He gives miracles , signs and wonders to the humble . Now let's just park here for a minute , because if that's true , and it is because this word means charis , so the gifts that we read in 1 Corinthians 12 , which are some will call them sign gifts , which are gifts of the Holy Spirit that he devised severally , as he will , of course , we have the word of wisdom , the word of knowledge . We have diverse tongues , interpretation of tongues . We have the gift of faith . We have working of miracles , the gifts of healing .
Speaker 1We have all these things in three categories revelation gifts , power gifts and also vocal gifts . Right , and these gifts are so important for the right now church . This is why because there's a dying world out there that is not just interested in information they need to have an encounter with Jesus and they might not come to church for that encounter , but we have to bring the church to them .
Speaker 1The activation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit , or these grace gifts , or the charisma of God and saints , today is very important to win the lost of our day . Okay , now I can go through church history and really just talk about the first 400 years from the early church .
Speaker 1Um , the church exploded because of miracle , signs , wonders , deliverance and healing the first 400 years , okay , when God wants to pour out his spirit , like he does right now , for an end time , harvest of souls , you know how he does it . Miracle wants to pour out his spirit , like he does right now , for an end time harvest of souls . You know how he does it . Miracle signs , wonders , deliverance and healing .
Speaker 1Okay , that means that we are in the perfect spot right now . We are in what we call the church age , which is also a dispensation of grace between the coming of the Holy spirit , the day of Pentecost , all the way up to the rapture . This is a time where Joel said that God says I'm going to pour out my spirit upon all flesh . Sons and daughters are going to prophesy , old man going to dream dreams , young man going to see visions , vice versa . We live in that day and time right now . So this is not just the time for doctrine which we need good doctrine but we need doctrine that's confirmed with also demonstration . There's a reason that much of the church world has put down demonstration and says , no , well , we got good doctrine , but that's not what wins the world . The devil doesn't mind us in the information age just having information , because everybody on the internet got information .
Speaker 1but I want information that will cast the devil out of you , get you healed , get you set free , raise the dead and we're living in a day and time where God is giving grace , supernatural empowerment , to the humble . Not for the people that will have the healing line and say look , what kind of healer I am . Not for the people that will raise the dead and say , look , how powerful of a prophet I am and I'm an apostle , a reverend bishop , that's who .
Speaker 2I am .
Speaker 1No , he's not looking for the prideful . But if you can humble yourself and give God all of the glory , get ready . This is the greatest time to be a believer .
Speaker 2I'm here for it .
