Hey, welcome to Doing Life with Ken and Tabitha. We are so pumped that you're tuning into this podcast. It has been designed for people just like you. We wanna do life with you, share our wins, our defeats, our ups and our downs, in hopes that you'll grow closer to God and to the people that you love in your life. Sit back and enjoy today's podcast. I think that somebody needs to hear that, that you just gotta get up earlier, and so that might mean you got to go to sleep earlier, but you got to get up earlier, because if you got to get the kids out of the door by eight to spend time with God and to work out and to meal prep, you got to be up by six at the very least. That's the challenge I think that people have. They are not doing the things the night before to be able to get up at six to be able to get all these things done.
Pastor TabathaThis is why people don't do it to get up at six to be able to get all these things done. This is why people don't do it. I hear this thought oh, I ain't going to do all that, that's too much. Yes, people do that. That's how successful people live their lives Long-term successful people. And so, yes, it is possible. Sometimes we don't do things and we think, well, that's impossible, I can't do all that. No, yes, you can. Millions of people do. People with four kids and five kids. You're single, you can do it. You have one child. You could do it. Single moms can do it. Single dads can do it Well.
Pastor Kenyou got to remove all of the excuses.
Pastor TabathaI learned years ago.
Pastor KenExcuses is nothing but a crutch for the uncommitted, and whenever we are not committed to do something, we'll come up with an excuse. Well, I can't, because it is, and the truth is is that you can do whatever you set yourself to do with the help of the Lord, philippians 4.13,. I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. Hello everybody, hey everyone.

Pastor KenYou can jump over to our website and join the waiting list or get your tickets right now if you so desire. Today's a great day, baby. This is like the end of January that we're coming into and it's just been a good month. You know, it's been a good month of fasting and praying and seeking God and at our church this is the year of communion and I just feel like there's this amazing presence of the Lord on what we're doing right now, on those who are really genuinely seeking the face of God. And I don't know, Can you feel that at all?
Pastor TabathaI do. I love January not only because it's my birthday month.
Pastor KenIt is.
Pastor TabathaBut I just love that fresh start to the new year.
Pastor KenCan we give some horns for the birthday girl here? Can we give a round of applause to the birthday girl? Listen, she is 49 years young. And, girl, you look good too, thank you, you look good. You're getting more beautiful. I'm trying. You're like fine wine. You get better over time. You really do. And yeah, you really are. You're glowing. It's just good to see you're cancer free.
Pastor TabathaAmen.
Pastor KenHealthy. See you cancer free, healthy, wealthy and wise, loving God, more now this year than you have next year, you know as we grow older.
Pastor KenIt's actually like I don't know. I'm looking forward to it. I like look forward to it. You know, there's a lot of people say, oh my God, I'm about to turn 30. And oh my God, I'm about to turn 40. I'm like man, this gray that I got right now. That means that I've been around for a minute. The grace of God has seen us through. It's the grace of God every single year.
Pastor TabathaI'm kind of like. You know so. I was like raised by my grandma and my grandmother. She was like the oldest and you know so that meant she was the boss, like nobody can tell her what to do. And I'm the oldest in my family too, like with my brothers and sisters.
Pastor KenAnd.
Pastor TabathaI like I know I'm just bossy, so I like I see myself being like 90 and a hundred, being like listen here, do what I told you to do. Do it, cause I said so like I just want to boss everybody around.
Pastor KenLike a lot of my family's from New York. You know New York people, they, they New York people. You gotta love New York people. You know what I'm saying they. I like New York people because they give it to you straight.
Pastor TabathaThey ain't they're not trying to be. Don't play with me.
Pastor KenYou know. So she's no longer living, but I remember I had this one aunt cousin we call her aunt because she's older, but she's really my cousin and I remember I ain't seen her in years and I'm an adult and I walk into the room and she wanted something to drink and she just put up a cup.
Pastor TabathaI remember that. No, we was in a restaurant.
Pastor KenWhat'd she do?
Pastor TabathaWe were in a restaurant and everyone's at their tables. It was maybe like a family reunion or something, because there was a lot of family around. It was a public place and we hadn't seen her and we just rolled up to her and it was me, I know, I was there and maybe a kid or two, and usually you say, hey, what's up?
Pastor KenHow you doing. She didn't do that. Want me to go get her something to drink Her empty cup I rolled.
Pastor TabathaThat was the best thing. Yes, it was Donna we love you, we love you. Yeah, yeah.
Pastor KenSo, anyway, today's going to be a very special episode as we end January, going into February. Sweetheart man, this year of communion is something else. Today we want to talk about mastering your morning. Yes, master your morning. Five keys to a spiritually empowered start.
Pastor TabathaOkay, master your morning Five keys to a spiritually empowered start. Okay, talk to me. What does that mean to you? Mastering your morning? I think you know mastering your morning. There's something about your morning, how you wake up and how you start your day, that sets the precedent for the rest of your day. Okay, that sets the pace, the tone, for the rest
of your day. Okay, I don't want to be that person and I've been it waking up, pressing snooze 10 times and then you get out the bed crazy trying to find your clothes.
Pastor TabathaEverything's a mess. I mean it's so stressful, like who wants to go about their. You're speeding in traffic trying to get to work on time.
Pastor KenEvery day.
Pastor TabathaYeah, we don't want to do that.
Pastor KenWe have not been designed to live our lives like that.
Pastor Tabatha10 times a day, every day.
Pastor KenYes, um, you used to be that person I did, I did, especially in college, yeah, you've been delivered. Yeah, how'd you get delivered?
Pastor TabathaI mean I, first of all, I learned like I don't want to live my life like that and I think that you, when you know better, you'll do better. Like I didn't understand principles that we're going to talk about in this podcast, I didn't understand like prepare, you know, take time to plan your day, make a schedule. What do you want to do? I didn't know to listen to other people, you know. Back in the day, like you know, when I was acting like this, we didn't have podcasts, we didn't have iPhones, we didn't have YouTube. Okay, we couldn't get all this self-help information. We had to go to barnes and noble and I still go to. I love barnes and noble, I love to go to libraries. You had to go to the library check out a book.
Pastor KenI don't really remember barnes and noble back then either.
Pastor TabathaOh no, we didn't have barnes and noble, but I mean in dc we did but right, um, you know, I I was, yeah, I was better by the time we got to DC. I had my life together a little bit more. But anyway, you had to read a book to find out information or know someone seek out, you know help, you know have a mentor or something like that. Today is a lot more easy. You know you can get on your smartphone and find out some help, you know on how to start your day right.
Pastor KenRight, right. Why is this important? Master your morning. There are people who might think that who cares? You know why is this important for people?
Pastor TabathaI have goals in life, I have things that I want to achieve. I have a relationship with God. I want my relationship with God to be a certain way, I want my relationship with you to be a certain way, and even you know, like we're in January and I have goals to to to reach this year. I'm not going to reach those goals if I can't have an organized life, if my approach to life doesn't make sense. You know, I think sometimes we have all of these dreams and aspirations, um, but it's like we can't accomplish them because we're so unorganized and out of order in our minds. You know, I can remember when I was in that place of not having my mornings organized, and I can even say like even being a mom and having younger children, and even sometimes now I'll get into a season season like it's busy at work, it's busy with my kids you know, everyone has a different practice that they need to go to and I'm like, I'm tired, I want to sleep in. I wake up and then boom, I'm out of the door running.
Pastor KenI hate those days. Well, one of the worst feelings in the world is knowing that you want to do something in your morning, but every day not doing it. Yeah, for me that's horrible. You feel unfulfilled, I feel like I'm missing it every single day, and I think there are so many people that they have a plan to spend time with God to work out in the morning, but every single day they miss that and they run the class, they run to work, they run to Starbucks, they don't eat breakfast, they don't do certain things, and it affects the rest of their day, and I think that's my point.
Pastor KenSo today for me, is not laws. This is not like what you have to do to be right with God. There is no scripture that says thou shalt master your morning, but there are certain principles for living that causes your life to be in order so that you can experience God's best.
Pastor KenAnd it has been our experience that if you can get hold of your morning, you can get hold of your day, and what you do in the morning is going to affect afternoon, evening and night. So we want to help our audience today master their life by mastering their morning.
Pastor TabathaI like to say this, and I'm an early bird, I like to get up early. I like to get up right before the sun comes up, because I like to get started on my day before my day gets started on me. Okay, I like to be up and prophesy to my day. You know what I mean. Now you can prophesy the night before as well, but I'm just saying there's something about the morning for me and you know, when I was in college I did the army ROTC. I had like a quick about a quick. You know, when I was in college I did the Army ROTC. I had like a quick Stay in the Army, and one thing that they trained us To say was we do more before 9am Than most people do all day.
Pastor KenI think it's 6am.
Pastor TabathaIs it 6am? It could be. I'm telling you it was a brief. It's so brief you don't remember.
Pastor KenNo, it's 6am. We do more before 6am.
Pastor TabathaWere you ever in the Army?
Pastor KenNo, I mean people tell us in the comments what it is very quickly. They'll tell us in the comments.
Pastor TabathaI think it's 9 am.
Pastor KenNo, it's 6 am. 9 am is late baby.
Pastor TabathaI mean, but it's the rest.
Pastor KenMost people are just getting started at 9 am for work. I'm this right now. You should already know. Somebody
Google it, listen. Through 25 years of marriage if I'm looking at you like this and I'm like baby, it ain't 9 am, don't? You know me enough to be like that brother probably know what he talking about.
Pastor TabathaI would, but you've never been in the military, I'm telling you Wow, wow, where's my phone at. Did I have said this time and time again?
Pastor KenHey Siri, what does the Army say about they do more before a certain time of the day, before others do?
Pastor TabathaWhat time is it?
Pastor KenShe don't even know, oh, it says 9 am. It says 9 am people. I was wrong.
Pastor TabathaI was wrong. I hope they don't edit this. Jose, you better not edit this. This is my one chance for victory.
Pastor KenOne.
Pastor TabathaThis is my chance for victory.
Pastor KenI don't think Siri fully understood what I was saying.
Pastor TabathaI just don't understand how, if I lived through it, I'm telling you what I lived through and you?
Pastor KenI just don't understand why You're going to stay right here. Is this where we're going to stay?
Pastor TabathaWoo, I need some trumpet sounding. I need some confetti. Happening right now, this is amazing. Wait till I tell the kids.
Pastor KenListen, I am man enough to say I was wrong.
Pastor TabathaCrystal, write it down in the notes. Let the record show.
Pastor KenAll of that screaming into your mic. You're going to mess up our whole routine.
Pastor TabathaI feel my Claire Huxtable coming on. Let the record show. So what were we saying? We do more before 9 am than most people do all day, meaning that most people start their job from their 9 to 5 at 9 am. They're just getting started. Listen, at 9 am I talk to the Lord. I've exercised, I've taken a cold shower, I made breakfast for my kids and my husband, I dropped the kids off at school. I mean, I've done so much before 9 am it feels good.
Pastor KenYeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, and so okay, all right good all right, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, and so okay, all right, good, all right. So what does the Bible teach about mastering your mourning?
Pastor TabathaIs there anything in the scriptures that kind of speak to this? There's a few scriptures that I wrote down that I think. Just that bless me Lamentations. Chapter 3, verse 22 says this Because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness, so I like. Psalm 143 says.
Pastor TabathaVerse eight says cause me to hear your loving kindness in the morning, for I in you do I trust. Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I uplift my soul to you. Another one, psalm 90, 14, says oh, satisfy us early with your mercy, that we may rejoice and be glad in all your days. And here's one more, one more, psalm 5, chapter 3, my voice you shall hear in the morning. This is the psalmist declaring to God that in the morning I will lift up my voice and you will hear me praying. Oh Lord, in the morning I will direct it to you, I will look up and we know that Jesus prayed in the morning.
Pastor TabathaWe have scripture saying that. But I just like it that in the morning his mercies are new toward us, and so it's like a new day. We get a fresh start every day, every day that the sun comes up, and that's encouraging to me, especially anyone who's dealing with depression, sadness, anyone who's feeling condemnation or guilt or shame or anything like that. No, with the setting of the sun, the old has passed away. You know what I mean. I'm mixing up scriptures here, but I feel like you know, when the sun rises it's a new day. In God's grace, his mercies are new every morning.
Pastor KenOkay, yeah, I think that Jesus spent time in the morning, even before the sun came up, and I don't think it's once again, it's not a law, but I think it's just a really, really good principle that there's something about morning that is very special in our day. And so what about for people who are like I'm not a morning person, I'm a late person, and they stay up till 1am or 2am or something like that? What would you say to?
Pastor Tabathathem? I don't know. I'm not here to preach on the science and things like that. There is science that says go to bed by 12 o'clock, because it does something to your circadian rhythms.
Pastor KenWhat time do you go to bed? By it does something.
Pastor TabathaListen, if I could go to bed at 8 o'clock every day, I would. I can't, but I would like to. But by 10 o'clock I'm pretty much asleep because. I will pass out, you can be asleep definitely by 7.30. Yeah.
Pastor KenOne of our kids. They go to sleep by 7., 6.30 maybe, probably 7. No-transcript both.
Pastor TabathaI feel like you, just you wake up early and you go to bed late give me some.
Pastor KenI wish I could do that.
Pastor TabathaYes, ma'am I mean you just don't require as much sleep. I think you get a good eight hours in. Maybe you don't need eight hours. I feel like if you have six, you're good.
Pastor KenI'm like good, I don't know yeah. Yeah, I can do like about 11 o'clock I'm probably sleeping. Then I can be up by five yeah.
Pastor TabathaI wish I could do that. One, two, three, four, five, okay, six hours. I'm jealous that I can't stay up that late Like I want to stay up late. I feel like I'm missing out. Yeah, what's happening at night while I'm?
Pastor Kensleeping. That's funny. We'll be sitting on the couch and she's trying to stay awake. I'm like girl, just go to sleep. It hurts and I want to be able to. I want to watch this. I'm like I'll be like girl, just go to sleep. You look like you're in pain, having a stroke. Oh man, oh, that's funny that you feel like you're missing out. I don't feel like that.
Pastor TabathaI don't know. I think, though, the thing is because some people are like you know, if you don't wake up at 5 am, then you're missing out in life. If you don't wake up at 4.30, I mean, lord, help us all. Some people, that's just not going to happen. That's not what I'm talking about.
Pastor KenSo we got five keys to a spiritually empowered start, and I want to just I want you to tell me what you think about these five keys here. Okay, For those of you all who want to master your morning, this is it. Number one the next day starts the night before.
Pastor TabathaYeah.
Pastor KenThe next day starts the night before. Can you speak to that?
Pastor TabathaIt's all about preparation. We cannot, like you just said, go to bed at 12, one, two o'clock. We cannot stay up playing games on our phone, scrolling through our social media, watching TV. We can't stay up that late and then expect to wake up the next morning and be on point and master our morning and just skip through the day like we would like to.
Pastor KenWe're setting ourselves up for failure. If you want to master your morning, it actually starts the night before how you go to bed. What are some practical keys that you would give people before how you go to bed? What are the? What are some practical keys that you would give people about how to go to bed?
Pastor TabathaI would say, first of all, plan it. Everyone's day, everyone's life is different. We all have different seasons of lives. You know of our lives, and so, first of all, plan it and be realistic with yourself. I'll just say, you know, I like to plan my day, you know, like the day before. So at night, before I go to bed, I usually like after dinner, you know, whatever there is a time for me, it's like seven o'clock, If I can. At seven o'clock I am like unwinding for the day, or you know what I mean. I am like beginning to take a shower. I'm beginning to talk to the kids about going to school the next day. I'm making plans for the next day.
I like to do things like make sure that my sleep is quality, because if you don't have quality sleep, well you can yeah, it's going to be hard, it's going to be hard to master your morning.
Pastor KenAnd that's a whole nother segment that we probably should do about how to have sweet sleep.
Pastor TabathaThe.
Pastor KenBible's promised sweet sleep. There are so many people that are not having sweet sleep and that rolls over into your day and some of those are medical issues and you need to go to the doctor and get some help, and some of it's how we approach sleep or how we cast our cares to the Lord. There's like a mix of stuff that that's the problem, but I feel like God's promise that's a promise in the Bible for the believer that he gives his beloved sweet sleep.
Pastor KenSo I want to go after that, but anyway. So what else do you do?
Pastor TabathaSo the quality of your sleep. Like for me, I make sure that our bedroom stays our bedroom. Like personally.
Pastor TabathaI don't like to eat in my bedroom. I don't like to do, I don't do work in my bedroom. You know, I have the the ability to keep my bedroom like a sanctuary, like that. I make sure that my bed sheets, my pillows, everything's fresh and inviting for me to get in my bed. It feels good, so like where I lay my head. I'm like, okay, this is going to be good. It feels good when I get in bed at night. All of those things are just setting me up to enjoy.
Pastor KenWell, there's some things that I would recommend as well. I mean, you can do stuff like set your clothes out the night before, especially if you're going to have an exercise routine in the morning, you can set those clothes out, your work clothes out, preparing your spirit. A lot of people have nightmares and they have dreams because of what they watch your spirit A lot of people have nightmares and they have dreams because of what they watch.
Pastor KenSo there can be a time where you turn off devices and you more read scripture, read a book. You try to get your heart and mind to settle down, I think would be huge Thinking through the next day. This is what I have to do on the next day, so really kind of meditating on what that looks like. Yeah, journal, this is a good time to journal. I think that those disciplines at night actually affect the next morning and the next day.
Pastor TabathaI like to do things at night, so at least during the weekdays I have like weekends.
Pastor TabathaLike my weekend is Thursday, friday, so Thursday and Fridays, if I can stay up, I go, try to watch TV and like, well, watch Netflix or do something like to watch TV before I go to bed. But I've disciplined myself in the evenings, on the weekdays, where I'm waking up early and taking my kids to school and going to work and things like that, to like I don't watch TV before I go to bed, I'll read a book or I'll do like something with my mind a puzzle, you know, a crossword puzzle, or like a Sudoku puzzle, something like that because it just it allows me to relax. I'll read the Bible, it allows me to take in God's word before I sleep. Things like that are, I feel, set me up for success and allow me to be disciplined. That's the time where I might read that book that I've been wanting to read. It might take me 10 weeks, cause there's 10 chapters and I read a chapter a day, but you know. Or a chapter a night, but you know.
Pastor KenOkay, number two. The second key would be to get the proper amount of sleep, and we kind of hit on that a little bit. Anything else stick out to you about that?
Pastor TabathaI know, just know yourself and don't be Well, yeah know how much sleep you need. Yeah.
Pastor KenYou know, I know how much I need.
Pastor TabathaI need 13 hours.
Pastor KenDo you really?
Pastor TabathaI feel like I do. I don't, but I'm just.
Pastor KenHow many hours do you think you need really?
Pastor TabathaI mean, I get eight, you know, I try to get eight. I probably at least need 10. At this point in my life, I think I need 10. Wow.
Pastor KenYou're not getting 10 I know yeah, you have to make some serious adjustments.
Pastor TabathaThat's a lot of sleep I might need 10, for it's like a week in a row, maybe two weeks, and then I maybe I'd be restored.
Pastor KenI have no idea like a baby needs like 10 12 hours of sleep. That's how much you're calling me a baby no, I'm just no, I'm just pointing out some things.
Pastor TabathaMaybe I'm exaggerating. That's how I feel, though. I feel like look, give me 10 hours, I will sleep all of those hours.
Pastor KenHow important do you think it is to wake up at a certain time?
Pastor TabathaI think it's I don't know. I mean, for me it's important.
Pastor KenIt depends on what you want to accomplish in the morning right yeah.
Pastor KenI think it's huge Okay In context to like we have kids and right now it's an everyday battle to get them out to school on time and every single day they forget their lanyard, they forget their lunch, they forget their breakfast. You know that's how some adults are, yeah, because they're not saying I'm going to be up by a certain time. So I think it's important If you want to accomplish, if you want to spend time with God, if you have an exercise routine, stuff like that, stuff you want to do to master your morning, you got to get up.
Pastor TabathaYou got to get up, and I think there's some things you can do too. There's like hacks brain hacks, motivation hacks that you can do to make yourself wake up in the morning. There's something that you can look forward to. I mean, if you look forward to eating, like for me, I try to do intermittent fasting and I find that I sleep better if I have an empty stomach, and so a lot of times I don't eat dinner, I'll just skip that meal. So in the morning morning I wake up, I'm hungry, and so I'm laying in the bed like, oh, do I press snooze or no, let me get up, cause I'm about to eat those eggs and bacon.
Pastor TabathaYou know like it's motivating for me at certain points, and I think there can be points of motivation for each person. Whatever motivates you. Today, I was actually motivated by my workout because I was excited to get up and, like you know what? Oh, it's day three of my workout, it's day three of my workout. Let me hurry up and get out, because I want to make sure I have enough time to get that in, and that was my motivation for today.
Pastor KenYeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, we both just recently started a new workout and it feels like, you know, when you start anything new, it's hard, and it's almost like that's not what my body wants to do.
Pastor KenBut I've already set myself that I don't care what I feel like you getting up and I mean I don't want to over simplistic, make it over simplistic but like sometimes, when you know what you got to do, set yourself and get up. You got authority. Like no, I know you're tired, but you're getting up and you're going to go in that gym and do what you got to do.
Pastor TabathaI think we have to make ourselves do hard things at times. One thing that I started implementing was taking a cold shower in the mornings. I've done this in the past. There's so many health benefits to taking a cold shower, especially because I work out in the mornings and then you just cool all that inflammation down. It's great. But there's health benefits, immune system things like that.
Pastor TabathaBut I don't know who it was, but I heard somebody talking about doing the hard things and it really motivated me to where you know, even throughout my life, sometimes I challenged my faith. I overcame fear by just doing the hard thing and the challenging thing and I think sometimes we get to a certain age in life, a certain success, you know, a certain you know status in life to where we stop being challenged because no, we don't have anyone to answer to and we have everything set in life to exactly the way we like it. We have our smart houses and our comfort levels and our AC is exactly. Everything's exactly the way we like it, and we quit knowing how to kind of man up to the hard things. If I could say that, you know what I mean, and so I started to in the mornings instead of jumping in the hot shower and feeling really good and comfortable. I started just taking cold shower.
Pastor TabathaGet in there and it's like whoa, I mean it wakes you up. But mentally it's like whoo, I mean it wakes you up, but mentally I'm doing the hard thing and it sets me up for my day. I'm not afraid of the spider. I'm not afraid of the snake, because we live in Florida and there's snakes come around. I'm not afraid of the tree frogs and the lizards. I'm not afraid of the storm, I'm not afraid of the darkness. You know what I mean, because I'm training myself to do the hard things and getting up in the morning is a hard thing. We just got to suck it up and do it. It's not easy for anyone.
Pastor KenAll right. Number three would be put God first in your day. Put God first in your day, and so for me, that's probably my number one. Most important way to start my day is that God has to be a part of it.
Pastor TabathaYeah, Absolutely. Me too. I mean, I wake up in the morning and I've trained myself to. Most of the time, as soon as my eyes open up, I say good morning Lord. Thank you, Jesus. I'm quoting scripture. This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.
Pastor KenSo we do a thing here called the first 15. For those of you all who are newer to Bible study or spending time with God, why don't you commit to give God the first 15 minutes of your day? Everybody has 15 minutes. You can't say that you're too busy for 15 minutes. That would be five minutes studying a scripture, five minutes in worship final worship song, put it on and five minutes in prayer.
Pastor KenPray for your family, pray for your church, pray for the nation. Now. If you want to go beyond that, give them the first 30. If church, pray for the nation. Now. If you want to go beyond that, give them the first 30. If you want to go beyond that, give them the first 60. If you want to go beyond that, do whatever you're being led to do. But everybody has 15 minutes. There is something about putting God first in your day. It's not a law. You can read your Bible at night, you can do it at lunchtime, but there's something about giving God the first, that the rest is also blessed. So if we're teaching you how to master your morning, you want to bring God in to the very first part of your day and then walk with him through the rest of the day.
Pastor TabathaThat's right. Yeah, invite God to live this day with you. You know, what I mean Invite God to be a part of everything that you do. It makes such a difference.
Pastor KenNumber four would be exercise. Okay, and so for me, if you want to master your morning, all right. So the Bible talks about how this is the temple of the Holy spirit. We got to take better care of our temples, and so, as we're getting older, you know and, um, many of you all know recently my mom passed it those things. It makes you think you know that you're human you know that there is an expiration date and I am thinking now in my forties of how I want to be in my sixties and seventies.
Pastor KenI'm thinking now about how I want my body to be, and I'm thinking about stretching. I'm thinking about low impact workouts. I'm thinking about the way that I eat now.
Pastor KenAnd I just feel like, if you want to master your morning, I would encourage you to make exercise a part of it. Now you can exercise. There's been seasons where we've had to do it at night. There's been seasons where we do it all at the times, but this is our podcast, so I am my best self when I put God first with study, prayer and worship. And I exercise Because I know me, I'm going to get so busy in a day. I might think I'm going to get home at five, it might be six, seven, eight.
Pastor KenAnd I'm just emotionally done by the end of the day. If I want to be consistent, those are the two things I start my day with.
Pastor TabathaAbsolutely. You prioritize what's most important. And I think those two things no one else can do for you, those two things are selfish like, but not in a bad way.
Pastor KenRight.
Pastor TabathaLike no one can have a relationship with God for you, Right, Okay, and no one can take care of your body For you, Right, you know for you. So if you set those that time the first thing in the in the morning, I mean you're winning the rest of the day and this stuff.
Pastor KenI want people to know that this is not easy.
Pastor TabathaI don't know if there's any other things that are more important than that.
Pastor KenNo, not for me. This is not easy, though you know. I've seen you battling post-cancer, post-menopause, to where you're trying to get yourself back in the shape. We changed houses, so I took really about five, six months. I wasn't on my workout like I want to be, and now that we're a little bit older, it's harder to get back in shape, I think we're going to do a podcast simply about health.
Pastor Ken
We're going to do one just about how to get in shape, how to stay in shape, stuff like that. But for right now I just I don't know. I just think it's so important to just choose to do whatever we got to do, to steward our bodies in a way, and I think that when we do that, it brings all of our energies up, it brings our health up, it helps us master our day, because we've mastered our morning. I don't know.
Pastor TabathaAbsolutely. I mean just set you up for success the whole day.
Pastor KenYeah, and so these are two things the God first and exercise piece. These are two things that's important for longevity. These two things look different in different seasons, but these two things are huge for us.
Pastor TabathaAnd that brings us to the last one.
Pastor KenNumber five is meal prep, and so, for me, we need to think about how we fuel our bodies, we need to think about what we eat, we need to think about how much we eat. So, if you want to master your morning, specifically for people who are like I don't eat breakfast, Okay.
Pastor KenMaybe if you're fasting, I get it, but for the person who just doesn't eat breakfast because it ain't important and they don't have time, I think that's a different conversation.
Pastor KenOr for the person who has made like Starbucks or like Pop-Tarts or they just want everything to be so convenient, I think that maybe we need to reconsider that, because food is fuel. Food is fuel. So if you're talking about mastering your morning and you're talking about living an abundant, great life, I think that our ability to meal prep and to say what is it Because you might need different foods than I need for your blood type and your body type and your genetic makeup For me, I need to know what I need for me to be my best me, and what I found about food is that it's not going to happen accidentally. If I leave the house and I don't meal prep or think about what I'm eating, I'm eating crap. I'm stopping wherever it's convenient and even though I thank God for the Holy Ghost chicken at Chick-fil-A, if you really look at the ingredients, you will see it's not super healthy.
Pastor TabathaThat's right.
Pastor KenI thank God for the Christian chicken.
Pastor TabathaHoly Ghost said that ain't mine.
Pastor KenHoly Ghost said that ain't mine and I want you guys to. But I think that so many people are stopping at fast food places because they haven't taken the time to meal prep. This is like real discipline here.
Pastor TabathaYeah.
Pastor KenTo master your morning. We should just be like, we should just call this discipline for your day.
Pastor TabathaYeah, it's like you don't wake up in the morning and then decide to master it Right. You plan it the day before you know, you plan it out carefully and, um, I, I even write mine on a schedule, like I, every once in a while, maybe every quarter um, uh, I will say, okay, 5am, I do this 515. I do this 530. I do this. I will literally write that down in my calendar because I just want to kind of set that pace. I want to make sure that I'm doing the best that I can do to live a long, healthy, happy life. We're both parents and so we have our own selves to manage, but then you have your profession, your work ministry, and then the kids. It's like you can't control them.
Pastor TabathaThey're just like the, the wild card at all times. You never know you never, know what conversation, who you're going to have to pick up? It just it's crazy.
Pastor KenWhen you, when you first start having kids, you're young and then you wake up and you're old. Crazy, when you first start having kids. You're young and then you wake up and you're old, you're old, I am not old.
Pastor TabathaI don't know who you're talking about, but you are old.
Pastor KenYou're older than me.
Pastor TabathaI am not. You can be old. You've always been an old man since I met you. I'm not.
Pastor KenI'm not, but I'm just saying. The joke was is that you have kids and you're young and the next thing you know you're old. The joke is that kids come and it's a whirlwind for about 20 years and the next thing you know that's really how it feels. The last 20 years it felt like a big yeah yeah, somebody was punking me.
Pastor TabathaI don't know. I I said we say all that to say that you have a plan. You know, have a plan because even.
Pastor KenThat's what this whole thing is about. Mastering your morning is about having a plan.
Pastor TabathaThe thing is that a vision let's say, even when you have a plan right and the children do something, it's like you still don't fall apart, because you look at your plan and you know like, oh, I was going to do that from here to here, Can't do that today, I'll just skip over that. And now I'm on to the next thing. It's like even when your plan gets interrupted because the very fact that you had a plan in the first place, you're able to just snap back to it and you know, pick up the pieces and keep on going.
Pastor KenYeah, yeah. I think the bonus and we're kind of out of time for today, but the bonus for me is this is that you got to get up early. If you want to master your morning, I think that somebody needs to hear that that you just got to get up earlier, you know, and so that might mean you got to go to sleep earlier, but you got to get up earlier because if you got to get the kids out of the door by eight to spend time with God and to work out and to meal prep, you got to be up by six at the very least. That's the challenge I think that people have. They're not doing the things the night before to be able to get up at six to be able to get all these things done and, once again, they don't have to be done in the morning.
Pastor TabathaAnd here's the thing. This is why people don't do it. They think I hear, I hear this thought oh, I ain't gonna do all that Like I, that's too much. They do all that like no it, yes, people do that. That's how successful people, you know, live their lives like Successful, long-term successful people. You know what I mean like successful, long-term successful people. You know what I mean. And so, yes, it is possible. Sometimes we don't do things and we think, well, that's impossible, I can't do all that. No, yes, you can. Millions of people do. People with four kids and five kids You're single, you can do it. You know you have one child, you could do it. Single moms can do it. Single dads can do it.
Pastor KenWell, you got to remove all of the excuses. I learned years ago excuses is nothing but a crutch for the uncommitted, and whenever we are not committed to do something, we'll come up with an excuse. Well, I can't, because it is, and the truth is is that you can do whatever you set yourself to do with the help of the Lord. And so one of my favorite scriptures, philippians 4.13, I can do all things. Through Christ, who strengthens me, I can do all things through Christ, even if it's hard.
Pastor TabathaEven if it's hard, you can do it.
Pastor KenI've been made for hard things. His grace is sufficient in hard things. Bring on the hard things. That's just our approach to life. And so for me, I don't know, I feel motivated.
