Stop Fishing the Neko Rig, Fish This Instead

People might get a little bit mad about this one. We were talking about a bait today that likely there's a good chance you've never heard of it. Or if you have heard of it, you probably haven't heard of it in a long time. And that's probably for a reason because it's being kept under wraps. It's not being talked about. The one that was shown to me when I was out and actually in Iowa and kind of shines more in the Midwest, but I feel like it deserves some national attention. And that is the chicken rig. You're looking at it, you're like, dude, it's a stick bait. What the heck are you talking about? Well, think of it as you have a Niko rig, but it's now a four by four, not gonna get hung up anywhere. A weedless Niko, a truly weedless Niko. And when you're looking at it here, this is the Z-Man Bang Sticks. You see it right there. And it is basically a stick bait that kind of has the end of a tube to it. You can see all those appendages on top. But you can see I have a VMC redline Nico hook that's Texas rigged right here, and then a weight on the bottom. This is a pretty ugly rigging job, so I apologize on there. I usually go a lot better than this, but for video sake, just take the Niko weight, put it into the bottom of the bang sticks, and what I'll do is show you how to rig this hook. So once you have that rigged, what I'll throw it on is typically we have like a 7.2 medium heavy, a seven foot medium heavy. A seven foot medium fast will get the job done. But one of my favorite rods is the new 13 fishing enzo. They have a 7.3 medium mag fast, which is kind of like a medium heavy, but it's more like that the tip of a medium, but the backbone of a medium heavy. And it allows you to have a lot more power in that hook. Because what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna throw this on 14-pound braid, 10-pound floral, if not, beef it up a little bit more, especially if I'm fishing around wood. And you're gonna be able to put this bait wherever the heck you want it. Put it into holes in the grass, points in the grass, brush piles, bushes, uh backslide it on docks, things like that. Work it down uh from the ends of docks or from the backside of docks to the ends of the docks, and this is gonna be a pretty freaking sick uh bait to throw all times of year in place of your Niko rigs, but also give a different little bit unique profile because your line is going through the top of that bait. So instead of on a Niko where your line comes here, your line is now from the top. So you're gonna have a totally different presentation as that bait dances along the bottom. One thing you can do too is obviously Z-Man floats, but on a different bait, you can have it so that it falls flat and just knock your line slack, and this bait will just be sitting on the bottom dancing like that. Which is pretty cool. Presentation. Last little sneaky tidbit that you can do with this too, is before you insert that Niko weight in there, is add a little shaker weight into there. Like we talked about with the Nico before, add a little shaker in there that's gonna have some sound to it before you add that Niko weight, so that while you're sitting there dancing this thing around, all they're hearing is a little as that worm dances there on the bottom. The nice part is too with your line going in through the top there, is you're very seldom going to lose this bait, especially Z-man being Elastec, the line's gonna go through the middle, so all they're gonna do is they're gonna take that bait off the hook or hopefully through that hook because they're biting through that bait. And worst case scenario is your bait's now going to slide up the line. So all you gotta do is slide it back down, insert this, insert your hook back in, and you're good to go. So a little bit of a quick video for you guys today, but wanted to share something pretty sneaky with you guys to hopefully get you some more bites this summer. But I would have this rigged all times of year, especially if you have a lot of cover around your fisheries. This is a very sneaky bait to fish all times of year, but especially in the summertime when bites are hard to come by. If you have a lot of cover in your legs, this can shine. It does not matter if you're on like a Cherokee where all it is is just rock, gravel, things like that. There is not a fishery that the chicken rig will not catch some bass. So give it a shot. You can even add some scent to it if you want, like bait fuel, things like that, some powder to kind of give it some extra juice. But for the most part, the Nico rig, right that sucker up, you'll be good to go.
