Dr. Carver:

Hello everyone, I'm Dr Rachel Carver and welcome back to another episode of the Root of the Matter, where we discuss the oral connection to systemic disease. Today I'm very excited to have Dr Jack Wilson with me. Dr Jack is a board certified cardiologist who uses nutrition, lifestyle and supplements to help prevent and treat heart disease. Dr Wilson spent 10 years in a large hospital based cardiology practice. Did you meet your wife during that? Is that when you had the revelation?

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

Yeah, I was in practice for the first three years and then I would meet her and she would open up my eyes.

Dr. Carver:

yes, yeah, so I wanted you to tell that story in a second. Anyway, dr Wilson has been named top doc in cardiology 2011. He's top 50 holistic doctors and has his own book, the Paleo-Cardiologist. So we'll talk a little bit more about that and how to get in touch with him at the end. But, as you started to mention, I really love that story about how you met your wife and how it really opened your eyes. So maybe share a few minutes of how you went from kind of traditionally training in med school to really being aware of this other path.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

Yeah, thank you so much and I apologize for the background noise. We are in the jungles of Costa Rica right now, so I do have decent Wi-Fi access and again, yeah, we're picking up the birds in the background, which are spectacular, or, if not, that it could be a dog or a kid budding in to the conversation. So again, excuse me in advance, but it's kind of cool what I do right now as far as talking to people from all over the world about heart health and that is my specialty. I'm a board certified cardiologist, went through 10 years of medical training and all those things you said about me as far as a Phoenix top doctor and hospital based cardiologist big group, all that stuff. And then in that late 2004, I was serendipitously introduced to this woman and she is a EC doctor of chiropractic and she opened up my eyes to really all things health and wellness.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

At the time my father was sick and dying of a rare Parkinson's like illness. We take him eventually to the Mayo Clinic. They give him a diagnosis called progressive supranuclear palsy, psp. They have no reason why he's sick, they have no treatment for him and they say he will die in a few years. And then I meet this young chiropractor and she's like I'll tell you exactly why your father is sick and dying and you'll follow my advice, and so it doesn't happen to you. And again, I didn't want what was going on with my father to happen to me. I wanted to help my patients the best that I could and I listened to what she had to say and I would make that change to a holistic and integrative practitioner. My father would die three years later and one of my passions certainly is to prevent but other people's fathers and mothers from dying of brain-based disorders, but certainly cardiovascular disease. So I'm happy to share all this information with you.

Dr. Carver:

Great, so important. As I've talked about on previous episodes, there's a lot of dentists and many physicians. We're not trained on really how the whole body works together, but one thing we do learn in dental school is that oral bacteria can contribute to plaques in the arteries. It can cause endocarditis, which is inflammation of the heart. So we learn to pre-medicate with antibiotics for certain situations, but that's pretty much all we know, basically and interesting today, heart disease is still the number one killer in this country. So I think this is a very important, really relevant topic for everybody. But we're in 2023 now. Why do you think we haven't made much progress in reducing the amount of heart disease in our world today?

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

Well, I think we're not making good progress in the care of our teeth either. It's just all the same thing. It's all just about not addressing the causation of why people get sick, and the main reason doctors like you and I are not trained to address the cause is because the people who control our education are not interested in fixing the cause. They're just. They have their own agenda. So I was at a meeting years ago where they were honoring John McCain, the now deceased senator from the state of Arizona, and the meeting one of the event was one of the big sponsors was a group called Delta Dental, and Delta Dental said that they have a three pronged approach to reduce childhood tooth decay, and one was to make sure that everybody brushes and flosses their teeth and number two to get regular dental exams and number three is to continue the use of fluoridated water and fluoridated tooth care products. No-transcript. No matter what your thoughts are on any of those things and I certainly have my thoughts I'm certainly anti-poison and anti-adding fluoride to anything, which, by the way, all statin drugs contain a fluoride atom, which is absolutely horrific, which we know. Dr Rachel, where was the conversation about how Delta Tental is looking to teach all of the children to eat healthy food and to stop with artificial foods and to eat foods that nourish their gut microbiome and therefore their oral microbiome. Where was that conversation there?

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

Well, I mean again ultimately. Yeah, that's why doctors like you and I and all the other dental health practitioners, cardiologists, the medical doctors, our training is just controlled by big corporations, big pharma, big medicine, big sickness, and that's where it all really starts. So most cardiologists come out with a pill for every ill approach quick to prescribe statin drugs, quick to prescribe medical procedures which are highly reimbursable and they never address a root cause. But I guess, maybe back to your question the same things that lead to heart problems also lead to dental problems, and then of course, there is overlap from there where certain dental issues are highly correlated with cardiovascular issues. But the answer is, of course, always address that in a holistic fashion. That's how we'll do it.

Dr. Carver:

Absolutely, and you're right on about the nutrition pieces. What's really lacking? When patients come into my office today, I don't understand, especially when I see these kids. They're five, six years old and their mouths are already bombed out and the parents are, oh, I'm brushing, I'm flossing and like well, what are you feeding them? Unfortunately, our food supply is so deficient in nutrients and also I tell my patients, not about brushing and flossing and fluoride, forget that, it's about nutrition.

Dr. Carver:

If your body does not have the building blocks to keep these teeth healthy, I mean, people don't really realize that a tooth is an organ. Every single tooth has its own blood supply, nerve supply, limb supply, and so and it's. We're constantly remineralizing and demineralizing all day, every day. So if our nutritional status is inadequate, well then our teeth are going to show it there. So super, super important Again, much more than just brushing and flossing We've got to get that diet. So you are the paleo cardiologist and maybe you can, and this is, I think, very, very crucial for bone and teeth health, right. Is the fat soluble vitamins that we really the quality fat soluble vitamins you get from animal protein, right? And the minerals? And the paleo diet is very high in those, those kind of nutrition. I know that was one of my tools that I use the paleo diet for healing my eczema. It was really beneficial. So maybe you can tell our audience a little bit about that concept.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

Yeah, my book is called the Paleo Cardiologist the Natural Way to Heart Health, and yeah, it's about. There is a lot of conversation in there about nutrition and but it's also about the paleo lifestyle and that's why I have chapters in there. I do have a chapter on dental health, why teeth are more important than it's, more than just a beautiful smile and we talk about chiropractic care in the book and we talk about evidence-based supplements and we talk about that lifestyle, avoiding environmental toxins and pollutants. We talk about the value of sunshine, our paleolithic ancestors paleo meaning prehistoric or old stone age type behaviors and bringing that to a modern world as much as possible. Just getting outside. So getting outside cranks out vitamin D levels and does other things, and when you have high levels of vitamin D you have the lowest risk for all cardiovascular disorders. You also have the lowest risk for all dental disorders, so we know that periodontal disease is highly correlated with vitamin D levels. So, if we can teach these parents to get their children out into the sun, experience smart and safe sun, when you do this all together, the sun's been vilified, which obviously is only the construct of big corporations trying to keep us sick and therefore buying all their different products and services when we need to follow that paleolithic lifestyle.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

As it relates to nutrition, I mean I would say this is that there's so much debate going on right now. I know you've got vegans and vegetarians and paleos and ketos and carnivores and all those different things. But one thing I like to point out is that just make your diet organic. No matter what diet you follow. Can we all agree to get the poisons and chemicals out of our food? So we can stop with the artificial sweeteners, the artificial flavors, the artificial colorings. We can stop with all the pesticide produce. We can stop eating animal products that come from tortured animals or farm-raised seafood. So if we can start with that, again, if you're a vegetarian, just make sure it's organic. If you're a vegan, so on and so forth, and same thing with paleos. So this is not Jack Wolfson saying have a double whopper, hold the bun. It's a matter of eating as clean as possible and again, no matter what diet you follow, I think that's a great start, absolutely.

Dr. Carver:

It's the whole foods, because there are so many toxins in our world today that we can't avoid right, in our air and our water, it's everywhere. So, making those choices where we know we can reduce the two teenage daughters and they're all about the makeup and the hair, and then this and then that it's that fine line. You can't have that, okay, well, if you're going to do it, they're going to do it anyway, right? So I said, okay, if you're going to buy those we got to, let's read the ingredients. Right, we need to buy the cleanest, because that's another area. Right, we got so many of our toxins and all the beauty and the dental products. Right, all of the toothpaste with all the SLS and the fluoride and this, and that I mean there's just so much toxicity that we have in those and there's so many great alternatives, which is amazing. So let's kind of turn it back to the heart a little bit here.

Dr. Carver:

I kind of see the trifecta in my practice all the time High cholesterol, high blood pressure, difflux. All in my mind when I see that and just thinking inflammation, inflammation, inflammation. One is it coming from the mouth, right? Is there a lot of periodontal disease when the person comes to you with high blood pressure. Typical cardiologist might be all right, we're going to first put you on the diuretic, right? Oh, that doesn't work, we're going to put you on. I mean, my mother was on three different blood pressure medication. That just seems crazy to me, and she struggles with her weight a lot. So she'll do the all meat diet, but she eats processed meat and so that would send her blood pressure through the roof. And I kept trying to say to her mom the processed meat is causing so much inflammation, that's what's causing your blood pressure to rise. So what are the kind of the lifestyle and the supplements maybe? Or how do you address somebody who first comes into you with high blood?

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

pressure. Yeah, well, I think you mentioned you did mention the topic of inflammation, right, when your body is just on fire, and we can measure that in blood work from. Any doctor can measure inflammation. Most commonly, and probably the best and most well known test, is the HSCRP or high sensitivity CRP. If you don't have that information, you got to ask from your doctor and if you're inflamed you better figure out why. So inflammation is that link between cause and illness and it's always in the middle of it, right? So you've got all these different causes, or what I would say are violations of eat well, live well and think well. So when you don't eat well and don't live well and don't think well, then you wind up with inflammation. And then inflammation is linked to every other disease and whether it's periodontal, oral diseases or it's high blood pressure, it's diabetes, it's cancer, it's dementia, it's heart attacks, it's strokes, it's atrial fibrillation, it's all goes back to those causes of the violations of eat well, live well. And I think also when you mentioned the environmental toxins and yeah, the list is endless and it seems like a total uphill battle to those of us with children, those who were trying to influence our patients, and even for our own personal health, but it's like that's the only way, because the medical way leads to you being dead. That's it. You're going to die if you don't address the causes the best you can. That's the only chance that you can do it. So you have to lead by example and you have to, like you said, get natural make-ups. And children, yeah, eventually they're going to have their own, they're going to have to make their own decisions in a lot of cases. Now again, me personally, I would never like if my five year old daughter went in 10 years from now and she wants to buy make-up, she obviously could have the choice of buying it on her own, but of course I never would, and my wife never would, unless it is a natural product.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

And sometimes, rachel, too, it's like I was talking to a patient a couple, a couple weeks ago and the parent was on a call and the patient was 16 years old and, like you know, joey only likes to eat blah, blah, blah, and maybe that's like pizza or cookies and cupcakes. I'm like, who buys the food here? I mean, does he have a job? Does he go out shopping, does he drive him? But now we buy the food for him. Well, what if Joey said he wanted to smoke cigarettes? Are you going to go out and buy a carton of cigarettes? Oh no, we would never do that. Well, you're doing it and in fact, the foods you're feeding him and allowing him to eat maybe worse actually than the cigarettes. So, because he's got these health problems right now that I'm telling you are leading to more problems than what if it was actually smoking as a teenager. So I don't condone either one of them, obviously.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

But yeah, having these difficult conversations and knowing that the causes are out there and this kind of goes back to when I met my wife and she said you need to become a DC. I'm like what. You want me to become? A chiropractor or doctor of chiropractic. I just finished 10 years of medical training, I'm on the job, I'm three years into practice and very successful cardiology practice. You want me to become a DC doctor of chiropractic. And she said no, dc, doctor of cause.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

You have to find the cause of why people are sick and then we can, you know, again distilled into a very common and easy to understand methodology of eat well, live well, think well, eating the right foods and from that end, again, we're always organic, always gluten free. We avoid that nasty protein found in wheat, barley and rye. It's just not necessary. There's no reason to eat it. There's no positive benefits from eating it. And then free range grass fed meats knows detail, including the organs, preferably bison, bison heart, bison liver. You want to healthy heart? Eat bison heart. I mean, give your body those nutrients and you'll get there. And then obviously, wild seafood and people with the highest levels of omega three, naturally from consuming the seafood, have the lowest risk of everything. The longest lived people in the world and all these blue zones they're all seafood eaters. So enjoy your seafood. Great way to go.

Dr. Carver:

And really.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

I think, doc, that if we, if we more so focus on, hey, we should be eating more of these foods. Pack yourself full of those nutrient dense foods and and really not dwell on what not to eat, but really again focusing. Okay, well, how am I going to get my seafood in today? Or have I had two to three servings of organs this week, or am I? Am I eating these in season fruits and and organic vegetables? Am I eating, snacking on nuts and seeds and avocados and coconuts, these hunter gatherer foods that our ancestors have been eating since the dawn?

Dr. Carver:

of human existence.

Dr. Carver:

Right, and I think that's a really important point that you make. It's let's not think about what we can't eat, but let's focus on the multitude of foods that are, that are incredibly nutritious. I think another big thing we've talked about before on the podcast is how what we also affects our mood right, and so people don't realize. Now they just get on the SSRI or whatever. But everything we do is impassable and that's why when you go to someone like Dr Wolfson, it's not just Okay, here's the pill for your blood pressure, but let's talk about it. And these are difficult commerce.

Dr. Carver:

You may remind me of conversation I have where parents come to me and say Well, my kids, they don't let me brush their teeth. I'm thinking the kid is too. They won't let me, so I can't brush them. I said you know what? I used to straddle my kids on the bed when they were one and two, and I was like I didn't have to do it for very long Because once they knew that I wasn't going to give in. It's just the same thing when you get in the car kids always wear the seat belt right, and maybe they complain. But you know after a while, no, because you never compromise, and I think it's a challenge as parents, but once you give in a little bit kids, they're a great master manipulator.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

I do. I just want to acknowledge that because I don't think I've ever talked about the live as well. But the straddle technique and I've done it four times, my wife has done it four times and yeah, they get the message pretty quickly and they are just and that's not comfortable. The kids don't like it invariably, like you push the toothbrush a little bit too far back or whatever. Yeah, let me, let me ask you about that again. As far as kids in there and their teeth, or I mean, isn't there some debate about the brushing and how much we have to brush for those kids? Or if you think about kids in paleo days, I mean none of us had toothbrushes and presumably, obviously I mean not presumably our diet was infinitely better. But that would be almost like two various things sticks and obviously breastfeeding and stuff like that. So all the different benefits of that and that's all they would ever get. Otherwise, some of there's other modalities. But yeah, I'm definitely the straddle of the child.

Dr. Carver:

Yeah, no, it's true, like our cavemen, they didn't have toothbrushes, they didn't have toothpaste, but they were eating, like you said, this diet, that we're talking about whole foods with other. Weren't pesticides and any of this stuff in our foods back then. And like you just mentioned, chewing on sticks, right, cavemen, typically when you see drawing they have these big square jaws because they were using their jaws so forcefully. Nowadays every toddler's walking around with a little squeeze pouch right. And when you suck that in your, your cheeks are very strong muscles and they will compress your pal.

Dr. Carver:

So every child I see today is deficient in their jaws and it's just evolutionarily we're eating such soft food. So as soon as your child can start chewing, you want them chewing on hard stuff. It's really very important.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

Do you think and I'm sorry to ask you a question on your show chewing gum, obviously a natural gum that's probably going to have a natural sugar, something like the brand, like simple, and stuff like that? We just traveled down to Costa Rica so on the plane as a little kid. It's good for kind of equalizing the air pressure. So we bring some simple gum, but I think about that to kind of assist in the building of the jaw. Just the chewing of food. Yeah, they're gonna chew on the foods they're going to eat and of course we feed our kids very healthy foods to chew on. But just that as far as a building mechanism, even for adults, is that helpful?

Dr. Carver:

Yeah, I mean it's again. You want something natural, like I. Also like the brand pure P you are. They don't have any weird additives in that gum.

Dr. Carver:

My kids don't love it, but I said hey, if you want to chew gum, this is the kind you're going to chew. And so, yes, and there's actually an orthodontist. She wrote a book, I think of her last name, sandra. Somebody wrote a book called JAWS with another orthodontist and she was trying to. She was in the process of developing a specific gum help to help develop a good jaw musculature and strength there. So, yes, there's a point where it can be too much, especially if your joints aren't aligned properly and your chew that can be a problem. So so again, you got to start at birth or even natively, to try to develop the proper habits there, like breastfeeding. We've talked about a previous podcast how it's not just about the breast milk but the way that that mouth latches onto the breast helps create proper jaw growth of the mandible. So there's, there's a lot, a lot to it.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

And then, of course, all just kind of segues right into oral breathing disorders which are highly correlated with cardiovascular disease. So all my patients whether they believe it or not, we know we check everybody for for sleep apnea. That's a big component of what we do and everybody in my practice has to be under the care of a holistic dentist. It's one of it's my intake form. Who's your holistic dentist? If not, okay, well, let's try and find you some in your area and people it's. I mean, again, it's beautiful because there are so many that at least advertise themselves. I mentioned to them like, well, if you find some area, look at their website and make sure that's really congruent with what you're talking about. Then also, yeah, call the office, speak with the manager, and this can be for any practitioner, whether it's a holistic cardiologist or a chiropractor, a dentist, whoever you're speaking to, making sure that you're philosophically aligned.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

So many people right now who'll be listening in this podcast. They're under the care from mainstream medical doctors. They're they're under the care of the pill pushers who, unfortunately, they only are trained in the pharmaceutical industry. It's not that they're not brilliant people, it's just what they are trained to do. It's like, rachel, if I asked you about pharmaceuticals for cardiomyopathy and you're like I don't know. And I'd be like, wow, this woman really doesn't know anything. It asked me about very regarding them all and I'm like I don't have a clue. I mean, both of us are smart people. We just know what we know. We're both trained and what we're trained in. Everybody smart I mean in their own individual area. They again, the medical doctors, only know what they know and they're financially incentivized to continue in that plan. So I love getting us telling people to get a second opinion. If you're not happy with your oral health, get another opinion. Happy with your cardiovascular health, get a second opinion.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

The life expectancy of the American male is 78 years of maybe a little bit less right now 77, 78 years of age. That's the best medicine has to offer. That's modern medicine, with everybody loaded up with trillions of dollars of pharmaceuticals. And if that's what you want and you'll be sick along the way then that's what your plan is. If you want the hundred year tip, have longevity, clarity, vitality until you're 100 or whatever. Your goal is maybe higher. Maybe you're like you know, I just want to get to 90. Yeah, that's up to you, but You're not gonna. Nobody says I'd like to live until I'm 77 and then die. No, nobody's saying that. And the last 10 years are loaded with pharmaceuticals and surgeries and different procedures and it's I just, I did it for so many years and it's just so wrong and millions and millions of people are suffering and it doesn't have to be that way.

Dr. Carver:

Now I think that's important. It does not have to be that way. So, again, part of the idea of this podcast is to create awareness, let people know that there is another way. So you mentioned about breathing nitric oxide. We know really, really important Oral bacteria are very important for that, because it is the oral bacteria that will convert those nitrates and everything into the nitric oxide and breathing through your nose. That's something we want our children, from birth, to master and it's really interesting. I go back and look at my kids infant pictures. All of them have mouth wide open. I'm like, oh gee, I know. And so always telling mom gently, shut that mouth, make them. It's very, very important.

Dr. Carver:

Kids will develop allergies, but the way that we breathe will also contribute to how our face grows, how our airway grows, and that impact us. So, even as a child, we may not snore, but our anatomy may not be ideal. So then, when we 40, 45, whatever your magic number is, and all of a sudden you start snoring, right, it's not because something changed, right. Well, you know, your collagen is slack and we're getting older, all kinds of other things, but that anatomy was always there. So if we can earlier on create that, it's better, but that snoring.

Dr. Carver:

We know that sleep apnea is a major risk factor, right, for stroke, heart disease, diabetes, on and on. And today there are so many easy sleep tests I mean, we have a little one you wear a ring over. Now it's come so, so easy. And if your holistic dentist doesn't have it, look for another that has that, because that's a very simple, really important screening tool. Because in my last interview with Dr Liao, who talks he has special devices, you know CPAP's okay, right, but it's still the gold standard, but it's not really fixing the problem. Then we have these mandibular advancement devices, which again is a step forward to try to open the airway. But ideally is to grow the jaws right to where they need to be, but can be hard as adults because of compliance and expense and all that. But that's the ideal. We need to have that open airway for the important heart health, since heart disease is still number one killer we wanna address that, so we talked about blood pressure a little bit.

Dr. Carver:

Let's talk about high cholesterol. Another one, everybody. Oh my gosh, you're at 201,. Boom, you need a stat. Where did this arbitrary 200 number come from?

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

anyway, I mean the whole thing is arbitrary. The whole thing is just pharmaceutical company trying to advance their. The Lipitor is the number one revenue generating drug of all time number one and does it lower numbers down? Yes, but does it lead to meaningful benefits? As far as heart attack and preventing death? The answer really is no. It's a tiny benefit on the heart attack and stroke side and from the standpoint they actually look, there's, for example, the Sparkle trial in 2006, looked at people who had had a stroke. Half the group got 80 milligrams of atorvastatin, so the highest dose of atorvastatin which is Lipitor or placebo and what they found is that and these are people who had a stroke, so it's a high risk population what they found after five years is that those who got Lipitor had less strokes, less heart attacks by a little bit, but actually a few more people died in the statin drug group. So we're clearly missing something when it comes to just jumping for statin drugs.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

Statins are notorious toxic. We mentioned before that every one of them has a fluoride atom in there and fluoride can be very destructive to the system. And the whole cholesterol paradigm, or the whole theory, is just that. It's all just theory. Whenever I see someone with quote abnormal cholesterol levels, abnormal lipids. We wanna figure out why. Why is the body doing that? And when we address that again, it's just finding the cause. It's violations of eat well, live well, think well. Are they eating the wrong foods and not enough for the right foods? We mentioned before vitamin D. Well, cholesterol is running through our blood vessels when the sun hits it. The energy from the sun, specifically UVA and UVB UVB in this case, uva produces nitric oxide. Uvb produces cholesterol excuse me, produces vitamin D from cholesterol. So cholesterol is hit by the sun, it gets turned into vitamin D. So if you have quote unquote high cholesterol, it could be a sunshine deficiency syndrome, I like to call it, where the body's just not getting enough sunshine, and that's what you do.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

Oftentimes it's a liver problem. The liver is so polluted and toxic and congested from a 21st century world that the liver doesn't clear out old LDL particles. So these LDL particles become dense, they become small, they become oxidized and therefore they are avidly taken up by blood vessels through a process of what's called leaky vessels. And now most people have heard of gut. I like to talk about the concept of leaky teeth, where again these endotoxins, these gram negative bacteria leak in through the teeth and get into the blood system there, that's obvious. And then again, and how that leads to this endothelial dysfunction or leaky blood vessels. And once you have leaky blood vessels, things get in there that you don't want, like oxidized LDL particles and other inflammatory cells.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

But like, where does Lipitor come into this conversation? We're talking about all these causative things, people, that again, number one killer worldwide. And it's not because people are deficient in Lipitor, right? That's like saying you've got dental issues because you're deficient in fluoride, or you're deficient in root canals or metal malgams or X-ray or whatever it may be. And it's just once you put that to people and you're like, okay, you don't have a Lipitor deficiency. And I'm like, huh, okay, well, everything is from an excess of something or a deficit of something and the combination thereof, and the best way to go about things is to continue to find what's causing your illness.

Dr. Carver:

And so you made a really important point which I want everybody to think about is when the liver is not processing properly. That's when we get the buildup of these particles. And the liver is such an important, major organ but it's often just kind of overlooked, right, because we have basically two enzyme tests to check liver function and basically, unless you have an acute infection or your liver is functioning at 10%, those values, those enzyme numbers, aren't gonna really show up much on tests, whereas we know that so many of us are walking around today with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Even children are being diagnosed with this. I just my niece just graduated from high school. One of her friends who's a sophomore in high school just had her gallbladder out. And I'm kind of overhearing, trying to mine my own business, but thinking here a 16-year-old who needs her gallbladder out, and now she feels great and thinking, oh, I'm fine, now everything's fine. Well, what caused that gallbladder to be so bad in only 16 years? You know, bile is made. Gallbladder stores bile, but bile is made in the liver. So there's a major liver problem and now, ok, the gallbladder is gone, but has anybody done anything to fix her liver? How soon is she going to end up with diabetes. How soon is she going to end up with high cholesterol? She's probably going to be on drugs by 20. So I think we really, really have to pay attention to our liver, because we live in this toxic world. Our liver was not designed to deal with this onslaught, and so I think it's really, really important.

Dr. Carver:

People have talked about in other podcasts, interviews, the importance of drainage, not just detox, right, but making sure the liver and kidneys are draining, the bowels are functioning, because, again, when we get all of this backup backs up into that liver, liver is all supposed to clean our blood, right, and so everything's kind of gets shoving. That which causes the inflammation leads to the high blood, cholesterol, the heart disease, all that. So, again, having somebody like Dr Wolfson on your team is helping you to understand that everything is related, that we can't. Oh, it's more than just the diet. Diet is absolutely vital, but the lifestyle is important to right. If you're not sleeping properly, if you have sleep apnea, or you're staying up till midnight, one am on your phone, whatever. We've got all those circadian rhythm issues too, where, like you said, part of the paleo lifestyle is getting back in touch with mother nature, our human modern life we have become so detached.

Dr. Carver:

I run an energy system. It's a bio energetic system and one of the things it looks for is big field aligner, right? So how well does our magnetic field line up with the Earth's magnetic field? And when those two things are off, everything in the body is off because we are just kind of fighting that natural frequency and so of course we don't feel well.

Dr. Carver:

So again, having that, and people, most people, heard of grounding, right, grounding the big field line, the similar concepts of we need to pull from the energy. We're all just energy, right? We may think where is this? Bits of matter, because we can feel and touch our bodies. But I'm just listening to a Joe to spend his book Supernatural, right, he says that 99.99999. I forget how many nines. It is right, it's energy and only that point, 0,0001, is physical matter.

Dr. Carver:

So this energy, the idea of thinking right, you have to think well, because our negative thoughts can also create inflammation. So some people say, oh, and this was me for many years I'm doing everything right. Why do I still feel crappy? Because I didn't get my mind until I understood about energy medicine and how the thoughts are so problematic and create inflammation. So do you do anything with the people when you're talking about thinking?

Dr. Carver:

Well, we talk a lot about in holistic terms, about the energy meridians and how teeth are on certain meridians and every tooth can be associated with an emotion To, for example, the for talking about heart, the wisdom teeth are on the heart meridian and so and we think about what the emotion, obviously love associated with the heart. People can have these heart walls right. Something I find interesting, and on both sides of my family, is heart disease. My great-grandmother died at 59, my grandfather at 74. On the other side, my grandmother died and she had triple bypass and, interestingly, although I have fine blood pressure and cholesterol, energetically heart and stuff always comes up for me. So it's like these inherent impact. Do I think I'm genetically destined for heart disease? Not if I put myself in the right environment, but perhaps so. Can you speak a little bit on that?

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

Yeah, well, again the think well component. And just to reiterate how they're not woo-woo, no type stuff. I mean it's in the medical literature where people who have anger, anxiety, stress, depression, fear, worry, social isolation, people identify themselves as just not having a good support network. All these things markedly increase the risk for you dying. That is again when you, when you account for all the other factors, because you can say, well, if you're more depressed, you're more like the ice cream I'm more likely to scratch, or whatever it may be.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

You know these are standalone risk factors and I think ultimately it just puts you in that sympathetic overdrive. It's just all fight or flight type status. And when your entire life is fight or flight, your body is not in parasympathetic mode, like you said, it's not draining, it's just trying to survive. So the liver suffers, the kidney suffer, the gastrointestinal tract, the entire gastrointestinal tract suffers, and then how do you police and cleanse out your heart and your heart arteries If you're in this fight or flight mode? You don't. So you have to work to extrapolate yourself from that on a whole variety of levels. And this is stuff, of course, that the medical doctors and the dentists have zero training in. And did you know of Joe Dispenza's work when you were in dental school.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

You know, 98% of dentists have never heard of the name Joe Dispenza yet millions and millions of other people. And about the, the concepts of what that is and it's all. It's all absolutely beautiful work and I believe it all to be true. Listen, if you to understand the concept of the electrical system of the body, what's an EKG? It's measuring the electrical system of your heart. Eeg measures the electrical system of your brain, emg of your neuromuscular interface. So I mean, it's just, it's just very common knowledge. So when we talk about technology and the overuse of technology and technology at night, when it's dark out and we should be sleeping and talked about circadian rhythms, these are all super important. But I mean that you know, eat well is no more important than live well and no more important than think well, and that's critical there.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

I do want to take a minute, though. When you and I met at the eco conference, my presentation there was mold, mycotoxins and cardiovascular disease. So we talk about mold, mycotoxicity, water damage, buildings. I want to make sure we get that out there for people to get their home checked. On our website we sell the number one and number eight Swiffer test. That includes a free review with one of our practitioners. We do urine mycotoxin testing. I find that to be extraordinarily valuable.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

Mold is a 21st century crisis and it impacts every organ. It definitely impacts the liver. You know. One thing we talk about is that the liver is responsible for clearing LDL particles, so the liver makes LDL, sends it around the body to do its job. It's not the bad cholesterol, just like HDL is not the good. They're just things that are made in our body that our bodies need, and all mammalian species have these things as well. They're for purpose, so there's no bad and good there. We can. They can become bad when we're unhealthy. So in that sense, the liver has these catchers myths called LDL receptors to take these particles out of circulation. But if your liver is so busy with all the other things, right, we're taking pharmaceuticals and we're taking our thionol and we're drinking too much alcohol, and then all the glyphosate test decides and just hundreds of thousands of other, millions of other chemicals. It's not able to do the job to clear out old LDL particles, and that's really the thing is that, yeah, it mentioned drainage and drainage oftentimes, yeah, it starts up here in the brain so you can allow your body to drain. And why is massage therapy so bent or body care type things, or you and I are both friends with Kelly Kennedy and lymphatic drainage. Undoubtedly there is actual benefit, you know, moving things around, but there's also the idea of you're just laying there and just Chillin out and engaging the parasympathetic system. That's where so much of the magic is really happening as well, and we are all missing that. The world right now. It's absolutely geared to make us more fighter flight and in a lot of cases, undoubtedly it is done absolutely positively, on purpose, to continue the pharmaceutical money train.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

And when you are someone who are suffering with fear, anxiety, stress, depression, then you're someone who is less able to combat the government or or agendas or people who are trying to steal our, our freedoms. So kind of a different segue where we would go on that. But some Italy, yeah, you gotta. You gotta eat. Well, you got. But that's where the debate really sits and we're all tied up in all this different stuff. Just go organic. But you gotta live well. You gotta get tested for toxins. You gotta make sure you're not mold exposed. If you are, even though you think you're not, you need to check, even if you think you don't have sleep apnea. I don't have sleep apnea, well you know what. I'm glad you think so, but your life depends on us proving that you don't. So we got a 10 extra step. I'm sorry, but you know again. So check for the mold mycotoxins, check your home, check yourself. And if you have those issues, well then, yeah, now you're working with a holistic practitioner to fix those, because your life truly depends on it.

Dr. Carver:

I say all the time if everybody every year could have a top screen test, like an organic acids test, I mean we would get so much more information and save people so much time, energy and headache, because that's where we see the issues most of time. Your cbc, whatever the doctor, your blood test, and they tell you everything's fine. Yeah, you feel like crap. Well, it's in your head, but you do a test and I can't. Every time I do, and those are so easy. They're urine right, you don't even have to get coach, so they're so easy. Yes, they're a little bit expensive, but the more we do it, maybe the more it becomes more mainstream. It will be more affordable.

Dr. Carver:

But yeah, the last one I did, I showed a lot of Gleeotoxin. I was kind of high in my candida and it was showing you know. So I got right on the cell cores by a boxy, right trying to get. But I've seen in my kids, know, in our house. It's not I don't know where it's coming from the problem, and my husband always say I have a mold everywhere. Yes, but again, because of this toxic world we live in now, it's it's. Mold is everywhere, it's true, but these toxins in our environment, in our bodies create, make the mold angry. And when the mold or parasites or whatever are the microbes are in our body, when they get angry, that's when they produce these toxins which then become a problem, for so it's not necessarily the mold, it's the toxins the mold produce that create the damage to the body.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

Yeah, one thing, rachel. You know that I like to tell people to it's there's a pharmaceutical called cell sept. Cell sept is used as an immunosuppressant for people with organ transplants so they don't reject the new organ. If you get a new heart or a new liver and your kidney, your body will recognize that as foreign and the immune system will attack it will. In order to prevent that, you need to go on an immunosuppressant with a. The brand name is called cell sept. Cell sept is mycophonolic acid.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

It's a mold mycotoxin. Penicillin is a mold mycotoxin and when you get people to understand that, this mold mycotoxin kills bacteria, which also means that that particular mold mycotoxin and many others destroy your gut microbiome, leading to leaky gut, leaky heart, you know, so on and so forth, it's it's easy to understand that mold is a major problem. Like you said, the environmental toxins make the mold angry. Molds been here for 750 million years. From some of the people I've read, mold was, if you're in, the biblical version of when it all started. Again, mold was here before man was.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

So you bring up a great problem, though, where four out of five times it's the woman who's suffering and I showed this slide to ego, if you don't remember like this slide where it's like the man and there is like you know. Wait a second, what do you mean? We got to check my house for mold and mycotoxin. This all sounds very expensive and I'm sure they've sat in your office. The husband's and my wife needs all this work. He doesn't need all this stuff down, it's like, unfortunately that behavior causes people to die.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

But you know, those are the battle that we face and, and, just like with our kids, we continue to try and educate as much as we can. We help the people that are swimming towards us who want our help, and those who don't want our help, they're going to suffer and suffer. They were so exciting and empowering, obviously, from where you were in dental school, from where I was an osteopathic medical, just kind of couch, and into this awakening of what we have, and it really really is exciting and I appreciate the opportunity to be on with you and your audience and we'll certainly share this with my, with my audience as well. So we just continue to wake everybody up to the realities here, because you and I have both seen thousands of people who just are just suffering and then dying prematurely, and it's not. It's not the way it should be.

Dr. Carver:

That's right and it is. Sometimes you feel like you're banging your head against the wall to get people to understand, but but I've had to come to the realization that not everybody's there. So what can I do? I can create a podcast and I can talk to people and I can share this message. You know what? What do they say? You got to hear something seven or eight times before it becomes solidified in brain. So that's what we're trying to do. We're trying to spread the word, and there are a lot of people who are looking for this and they tell something.

Dr. Carver:

I've been doing this podcast only a couple months and I just got a thing the other day that one of my reels had been already seen 5000 times and I was like that is so exciting, so exciting, and you got flags on Facebook. I must be doing something right because we're getting. People want this, they really do, and so you know. Again, I thank you so much for all the work that you're doing and helping me just share this awareness so that we can try to make the world a better place and understand that people don't have to suffer and there are answers out there and it's not a change in the whole lifestyle.

Dr. Carver:

We're not saying this is the one of the symbols of my logo is an infinity cycle, because with health, there's not a beginning and end of the world. There's not a beginning and an end. We live in a toxic road. We all we live life. So I don't want people to get frustrated like I used to like why am I not fixed yet? But that's not the cycle of life is just doing the best that we can with the knowledge that we have, putting the mindset right, not thinking oh, whoa, was me, but I'm going to continue to do the best I can with the knowledge I have now, and I'm just gonna.

Dr. Carver:

I'm gonna keep on going and knowing that there is a huge support system out there to be able to continue to do your best. So, as we're wrapping up, is there anything left that you really want to let people know about?

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

no, I mean. Again, I appreciate the opportunity to share. You know what I would say is the truth and again, those of you who are on pharmaceuticals for blood pressure, cholesterol, cardiomyopathy, atrial fibrillation there are natural treatment, treatment solutions for you. It doesn't mean we have to exclude the conventional medicine world, but let's try and minimize it.

Dr. Carver:

Let's make pharma and surgeries the last approach as opposed to the first approach and I think one thing we didn't really mention, that the pharmacy, we were talking about the liver. Every pharmaceutical drug really taxes the liver, so the more that you're on, the harder your liver is trying to work and that's why you keep getting on. You know, now I need another one, now I need another one. So. So it is important to know that there are alternatives. How about real quick? Some of your favorite like supplements, say, maybe like magnesium? You think a lot of patients, if they had the proper dose of magnesium, would have a better heart health yeah, well, I think, really just comes down to kind of like tests, don't guess.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

Some people need magnesium, some people don't, some people, you know, you know, I know you use vibrant labs. I use the micronutrient test and again, what is their intercellular, all their vitamins and minerals? Is a magnesium, potassium, you know? Is it manganese? Is it a copper thing? Is it all the above? Is it none of the above? Is it omega threes? That's where real eston gas comes in.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

You know, I do love one particular supplement called berberine, ber BER INE fantastic for for lipids, actually, what it one thing it does for lipids, one mechanism of action is that actually it increases the number of receptors, the LDL receptors, on the liver, much like a $15,000 a year pharmaceutical, rapatha, which is another useless pharmaceutical. But if we're looking to achieve that with actually better evidence than rapatha, then we can use berberine, which again is a very cheap supplement compared to what rapatha is. But you know, again, there's a time and a place for supplements. But it all lays on top of the foundation of you well, live well, think well, test, don't guess, evidence based supplements. And then we get into the biohacking strategies. You know whether again, it's lymphatics or sauna or a cold plunge. I mean, there's a million different things that people do and they're all great, and then again, at the end of the day, if we still need pharmaceutical surgeries, well then, yeah, thank God, the men and women who work in that arena are there.

Dr. Carver:

But we just got to remember that that's the last approach, not the first awesome, so tell us how we can get in touch with you if people want to learn a little bit more you can come over to naturalheartdoctorcom or you can also go to free heart book and all you do is pay.

Dr. Jack Wolfson:

shipping will send you a copy of my Amazon bestselling book, including chapter 15, which is on holistic dental care, and it's not an exhaustive thing, but ultimately it's a. Here's a few studies that tell you why you need to be under the care of a holistic dentist like Dr Rachel Carver well.

Dr. Carver:

Thank you so much, dr Jack. I appreciate you taking the time out of your vacation, so go enjoy that beautiful weather and that beautiful family of yours thank you so much alright, take care everyone, we'll see you on the next episode.
