I'm your host, rachel Perry. I've got you covered, girl. I'm going to be your new BFF when it comes to balancing life and kids while building your direct sales business with poise, peace of mind and, of course, a good set of fake eyelashes. Let's get started. Hi, welcome back, my friends, to another episode of the Direct Sellers Podcast.
Speaker 1:I'm your host, rachel Perry, and I am gonna let you in on a little secret. That's my dog sighing in the background and that is not my secret. But if you hear some weird sounds from me, my black lab is just sitting on my carpet fast asleep and snoring. So, okay, let's just get that out of the way. But let me tell you the secret. Some of you already know this. I am not a natural planner and if you're thinking, rachel, same. This episode is for you, even if you're not thinking Rachel. Same because I seem to attract planners, so chances are you are a planner, but guess what, this is still an episode for you. Okay, because today we're going to talk about why, even if you don't love planning, having a bird's eye view over the year ahead really can make all the difference. So listen what is hilarious to me? So you guys know, I am hosting my annual this is what my fifth annual Best Year Yet workshop. On December 10th. It's totally free. You can sign up at rachelaperrycom forward slash best year yet. But you guys know, like I have done this for years and it is a powerful workshop because not only do you walk away with a plan for 2025, but you feel so empowered and excited and it's amazing.
Speaker 1:But I'm not a natural planner. That's not something that comes naturally to me, so I'm not ever going to teach you how to plan. That is not my wheelhouse, that is not my superpower. Okay, but I do know how you can create a bird's eye view for your year and I do know how to teach you how to get reach your goals. Teach you how to get reach your goals. But planning never came very naturally to me and I am a fly by the seat of my pants kind of a girl, in case you haven't figured that one out and I have tried to wing it in the past.
Speaker 1:Okay, now I've been in business a very long time, a very long time, and I think it wasn't until I was kind of working a solo business that I realized how important planning was. But I would like run away from it. I'd be like no, no, no, and it was one year in particular I really didn't do any planning and I really didn't make as much money as I had in the past, and that's, I believe, because I hadn't planned. But then I had this realization. I realized that I didn't need to map out every tiny detail which is hard for me because I'm not detail oriented. I just needed to know where I was headed. I needed to have a rough idea of where I was going. Okay, because when you know what's coming, you're going to have more clarity, less stress and so much more flexibility to pivot when it's needed.
Speaker 1:Okay. So please hear me when I say I'm not saying that planning, being a detail oriented person, is a bad thing. I'm not saying that planning your details out is a bad thing. I'm just saying that that's not how I do it, and I have found that having a much I plan differently, right, and.
Speaker 1:But it doesn't matter how you plan. As long as you plan, you've got to figure out what works for you, right? Because if you don't know where you're going, you're not going to be able to do it, and so I think that's a good thing. How will you know when you've arrived? Okay, mic drop. What If you don't know where you're going? How are you going to know when you get there? You're not, because you didn't have a plan. You don't know where you're going. It's like driving somewhere. Let's say, we went to Charlotte for Thanksgiving, right? Or it doesn't even matter where you go, or what If you don't have a map, if you don't know where you're going, how long it's going to take you forever to get there, right? You've got to know where you're going. If you just hop in your car and you're like we're heading somewhere, how do you know when you get there? You don't.
Speaker 1:So the reason it's so important for you to have at least a bird's eye view of your year is because it helps you prioritize what matters most. Okay, it gives you a framework to stay focused when your life or your business throws you a curve ball. Can we talk about curve balls? They happen to the best of us. You can't plan for a curve ball when you have a bird's eye view plan, when you kind of have an idea of where you're going. It makes it so much easier to set realistic goals, to track your progress and to not be completely thrown off when things don't go the way you plan them to be.
Speaker 1:I'm telling you what, like I have to say, and I get distracted very easily. As you guys know, I get distracted very easily. And so if I don't have a plan, like if I don't know, for example, I have. I know that in December I am hosting the best year yet workshop At some point. I may not know the exact day, but I know that that's happening and I know that in November I need to like start talking about it because I'm hosting it in December. That helps me to plan for everything that I do in the month of November.
Speaker 1:Do I need to know exactly what I'm going to say and when I'm going to say it? No, can I? Would that help me? Sure, but do you see what I mean, like we know. When we know what to expect, we can plan for it, and it helps us with the stress, because when you don't know where you're going or what you're doing and yes, in your direct sales business, as you build your brand, you need to know where you're going, what are your goals, what are you trying to do to know where you're going, what are your goals, what are you trying to do and I talk about this inside expand a lot. I talk about how it's like have a promo, like what? What are you promoting each month? What are you going to focus on? It's just so important to have an idea of what you're doing.
Speaker 1:Now, if you're not a planner, okay, I'm speaking to the people right now who might not be planners it's probably like two of you because, again, for some reason, I don't know why I attract the planners. Okay, thank you, jesus, though, because y'all keep me on track. You know what I'm saying. You keep me on track, but if you are a non-planner, I'm going to give you a really simple exercise that I have found works really well for me, and we are going to dive into this in the Best Year Yet workshop, but I want you to write down your top three priorities for 2025. Like what? And this goes for even you planners out there like what are your top three priorities for 2025? Like what? And this goes for even you planners out there like what are your top three priorities for 2025? And if you don't know yet, that's totally fine, just start thinking about it.
Speaker 1:Do you want to build your team? Maybe you want to lean more into building your brand and and coming up with different streams of income. Maybe you want to increase the sales, but you also want to homeschool your kids. Like what are your priorities, your top three priorities for 2025? And they don't have to all be business related, but because this is a business podcast, like that's probably a good idea. Then what I want you to do is block off time for those priorities, right, maybe it's monthly that you do it, maybe it's quarterly that you do it. Whatever feels manageable and whatever ever feels right and good.
Speaker 1:Now here's the key You've got to leave room for flexibility. Key. You've got to leave room for flexibility. So part of raising children when you are a fly by the seat of your pants, kind of a girl, kind of a mom, I should say is that your kids learn how to be adaptable. My kids are pretty flexible, I would say. They don't get stressed when things don't work out, because we never know what's happening. In this family. We're not a hot mess, but I am so but it helps right when we know, like, what our priorities are.
Speaker 1:So, for example, I know that because John Mark is 18, he's going to college next year, like life is going to change for us. So I thought, while I have all three of them here full time, I want to have family pictures. So I knew that that was a priority for me. In October and November, like that was a priority for me, I wanted to get senior pictures for John Mark and I wanted us to have family pictures. And so we had to move the date a couple of times for me and because the weather and all the other things, but we knew that it was coming. Now, every time the date changed, we could, we were flexible, it didn't mess us up, but we knew that they were coming.
Speaker 1:Now the day came when we had the pictures. They turned out so good, by the way. Oh my gosh, I'm obsessed. Day came when we had the pictures. They turned out so good, by the way. Oh my gosh, I'm obsessed. I'm obsessed Okay, side note, I'm obsessed. And what's crazy is I am at my heaviest, like I don't love how I look right now, but the pictures captured the photographer captured like our joy, my joy, and I don't truly like, if I were to look at it, they were just so good. I can't even. I can't even like I just feel like maybe we were just in a. They were just so good.
Speaker 1:But anyway, they, we knew that they were coming right, so we could plan for that, my kids could plan for that. But then when things changed, it was okay, they could roll with it and they loved it. When they were canceled Cause they'd be like good, I have my day back. But then the day comes and we go and get our pictures taken. My girls freaking loved it, y'all Like they were posing, like they were models, they were living their best life. My son, however, was like this sucks, this sucks. My husband too, for that matter, and he's doing all these weird smiles. Not my husband, john Mark, he's doing all these weird smiles and I was like John Mark, you literally look like you're going to kill someone. He's like what I'm smiling? And I was like, okay, these are going to be interesting then. But the thing is, he knew they were coming. He knew that. We all knew that they were coming. We did the thing. They're done, it's great.
Speaker 1:But we did that was a priority for me. We planned it out it wasn't super detailed until we knew that it was happening. And then I was like, oh my gosh, what are we going to wear? Right, but that's me. So I don't even know if this example hits home, but what I'm saying is, when you know what your priorities are, things become a little bit more manageable. So it's important to have flexibility so that when things don't work out the way that you think they're going to work out, you can roll with it. But also, knowing that it's coming makes a difference and you can work towards that Right, like I didn't just come up with the outfits for everyone the day before. It felt like it, but I didn't. I had started planning it a few weeks ahead of time because I knew it was coming.
Speaker 1:So start with a bird's eye view and don't over complicate. All right, now listen, if you are a planner or a non-planner, you are going to love the best year yet workshop. Like you're just going to love it because it's just a fun. It's fun, it's empowering. It's literally one of my favorite things that I offer throughout the year, and it's free. So come on, but planning doesn't have to feel overwhelming. I'm saying this to me as well. Truly, though, a simple map for the year ahead can be a game changer. Even if you are a planner, or even if you're not a planner. Having a bird's eye view, having a simple map for the year, can really, really, really change your business.
Speaker 1:And I talked about Allison. I can't remember if I did it today or if I don't know. I can't remember what I talked about like five minutes ago, but my student Allison. She came to the best year yet workshop in 2021 and her goal was to I think it was to make like twenty thousand dollars that year or to to have twenty thousand dollars in sales. She joined my program after the best year yet workshop y'all. I'm not even kidding. She reached her goal, and maybe it was forty thousand, I can't remember, but she reached her goal, and maybe it was 40,000. I can't remember, but she reached her goal within like four months of being in my program. And it wasn't my program necessarily. That did that. It's because she set a goal, she created a plan and then she invested in having support, which I think is important for everyone. If you are building a business and a brand, you need support. You can't you can't do it on your own, but it's going to be way faster when you do it with support.
Speaker 1:So, if that resonates with you at all, if this, if you're like, yeah, rach, like I'm in, come on, go to rachelaperrycom forward slash best year yet it's December 10th. We're going to create a big picture plan for 2025 that's simple, doable and gets results. Ask Allison. Okay, ask Allison. This is her favorite thing, because it's so. It was such, it made such an impact in her business, y'all. She now has a massive team. She has a big team. She brings in a crazy amount of sales.
Speaker 1:Okay, why? It all started with a plan. It all started with a plan. So come on, get in there, come and hang out with me.
