Welcome to the Direct Sellers Podcast, the podcast for direct sellers who are ready to get uncomfortable, build their business and grow a team while changing the face of the direct sales industry. I'm your host, rachel Perry. Join me as we get real and talk about all the things you need to kick some serious direct sales booty From overcoming limiting beliefs to sharing the exact strategies you need to attract the right people who become customers and beg to join your team. I've got you covered, girl. I'm going to be your new BFF when it comes to balancing life and kids while building your direct sales business with poise, peace of mind and, of course, a good set of fake eyelashes. Let's get started. Hello, my beautiful friends, welcome back to another episode of the Direct Sellers Podcast. I'm your host, rachel Perry. Hello, hello y'all.
Speaker 1:It is Christmas Eve, so if you're not listening to this on the actual day, I totally get it. Okay, because if you're anything like me I am you are running around like a chicken with your head cut off. Okay, I get it, but guess what? This episode is going to be a good one. So when you have a chance, I hope that you are able to listen to all this. Of course, that's a silly comment to make, because you are actually listening to this right now.
Speaker 1:We're going to talk about how to stop overthinking and start doing the dang thing. I am such an overthinker. That was one of the biggest realizations I had in 2024 was that not only was I an overthinker, or not only am I an overthinker, but it has hindered me in many ways. This year, I have allowed it to get in the way of taking action. I have allowed it to get in the way of doing the things that I really want to do. When it comes to business, y'all, I'm such an overthinker. And do you know what's crazy? So I've been listening to this book Gosh, I don't remember what it's called Because those of you who have listened for a while know my son has ADHD and I would bet money that I also have ADHD In fact, I know I do and so I've been listening to this book because I just I feel like I need to learn more. I've always on that journey right of learning more, understanding it more, mostly so that I can help my son as he navigates it. But as I'm listening to this book, I've just been so amazed by well, I've had a lot of ahas, to be totally honest, because I've been thinking, oh my gosh, I have this like. This explains why I struggled in school when I was in high school. Or this explains why I had such emotional responses to things, heavily emotional, like like my parents were like whoa, simmer down, sister Right, and um, I didn't, because I didn't understand what was going on. Nobody did, but now we do, and now I can understand where my son is coming from.
Speaker 1:Anyway, all that to say, one of the characteristics of ADHD is impulsivity and I 100% have that Like. I 100% make very impulsive decisions. I just do, especially when I'm shopping and that you know when you're in line and you have all these areas like to, you can purchase, like little buckets and stuff. Yeah, that's bad for anyone with ADHD, um, but for me I'm like, ooh, I need all of this anyway.
Speaker 1:On the other side of things, I'm also an overthinker. I'm an overthinker when it comes to business decisions, and I think that's probably the only area of my life that I'm an overthinker. I don't like to. I just make decisions. I just don't like to think about things for very long. But when it comes to my business, I overthink. And if you're like me, you may be the type of person that's just waiting for the perfect time to start something new. Now, I have to admit I dive into my business Like I dive in. If I'm like I'm doing this, I dive in, but I do tend to overthink tinier, smaller decisions. Maybe you're an overthinker on a bigger level. Maybe you're like you know, I've always wanted to do something more, but, and then you stop it. But you're like, oh there, I've always wanted to do something more but, and then you stop it. But you're like, oh, there are so many reasons why I can't. So here's the thing In 2025, I am committed to really helping you build an additional stream of income in your life, and I don't care what that additional stream of income is.
Speaker 1:This year was really eyeopening for me and I felt like God was like Rachel. You see what's happening in the direct sales industry. I want you to help people build security and financial freedom. So, listen, I know some of you are going to build businesses and you're going to become coaches or you're going to build a membership or whatever it is, and then others are going to become an affiliate for something, or you're going to write an ebook and you're going to sell that, whatever it is big or small, my purpose in 2025, where are we? Yes, 2025 is to really help you build a bigger, an additional stream of income, at least one more stream of income, because direct sales is great and we love direct sales and we love it so much and all the things that it brings us. But I think it's really important for you to have a backup, to have something else, not just in case something happens, but also listen, like if you are trying to build financial freedom, if you are trying to build stability, if you're trying to build security, if you're just trying.
Speaker 1:Listen, we are women, we are meant like, we have so much, so much to offer this world. Okay, we don't need to just stop at one thing. We don't need to stop at one thing because, y'all, I've just been doing, I've just been listening to so many books and things like that. Another book that I'm reading is about menopause, because you know, hey, perimenopause, what's up? And women have never. It's it's relatively new word that we, as women, have the freedoms that we do and have the abilities that we do, and y'all, we have so much to offer this world, like, we have so much to offer, and I don't think we all realize that. Okay, so you have more to offer, and I've talked about this before. We have done more discussion about how there is more out there for you, how there is more that you are destined for, right.
Speaker 1:So let's talk about that overthinking trap, because that overthinking trap is often the thing that is holding you back from stepping into your more, and I don't want you to hold yourself back anymore. I have caught myself overthinking so many times, right, that it's embarrassing. I will so often, as you guys know, I am a part of a coaching program and so often they're like Rachel, you're overthinking, you're overthinking, or I will realize that I'm overthinking and really overthinking. We can tell ourselves that it feels like, well, we're just planning, we're just making sure we have all our ducks in the row, but y'all, let's call a spade a spade. It is really procrastination. It's procrastinating.
Speaker 1:I've been talking to a lot of you in emails. A lot of you would love to add an additional stream of income, and when I say, well, what's stopping you from doing that? I will get comments like, oh well, I need to get more confident, or I need to take this course, or I need to get certified in this, or I need to take this course, or I need to get certified in this, or I need to get more confident with blah, blah, blah, or I need to do this more, or I don't see myself as this person yet, like I think I just need to do a few more things and then I'll feel that way. But I'm going to tell you that that's what's holding you back and if you have that sort of mentality you are going to get. You are stuck, you are never going to move forward because that is not helping you, that is not keeping you well, it's keeping you safe in your mind, but it's not helping you at all. The cost of staying stuck, the cost of getting in as being in this overthinking cycle, are missed opportunities and zero momentum. So if you are a person who's telling yourself, oh, I just need to do xyz, I'm telling you that you don't, you don't.
Speaker 1:And I remember talking to a coach years ago when I was thinking about stepping more into the coaching space, and I remember being like should I get certifications, should I do all this? And he was like no, just do it. You have your experience. All you need is to be one step ahead of who you want to work with. That's all you need. That's all you need.
Speaker 1:Okay, here's and we. We hear all the time or at least have you heard of like perfect timing, like when you're like everything was perfect timing. Well, I'm here to tell you that sometimes that does happen, but it's an accident. You are not going to have clarity by waiting. Clarity only comes through taking action.
Speaker 1:Messy action, imperfect action, y'all. We have to do it messy, we have to do it messy. And here's the thing. What is the worst thing that could happen if you take the first step, like, what's the worst thing that could happen? Spoiler alert it's probably not going to be that bad. I have taken such imperfect action. It's so messy, it's so messy, but I'm moving forward every time I do.
Speaker 1:And whatever it is whether it's adding additional, another stream of income to your life, or maybe it's not, maybe it's growing your team, maybe it's getting more sales, maybe it's, maybe it's something totally different, it has nothing. Maybe it has something to do with your nine to five. What is the worst thing that could happen if you just take action? Okay, what is a messy and perfect action to you? Is it going live? Is it doing more public speaking? Is it starting a podcast? Is it coaching? Is it offering a training? What is it? And I want you to do it, just do it. It and I want you to do it, just do it. Let's stop. Let's commit to stop, like to getting away from this overthinking procrastination cycle, because it's not serving you in any positive light. Okay, so let's let me give you three things to think about that will help you take this messy action.
Speaker 1:The first thing I want you to ask yourself is what do you feel called to do? Do you? What is the more that you are feeling a pull towards? I've talked about this before that when I was a teacher, I felt this pull to start something of my own, but I literally had no concept of what that looked like Like. I truly did not know what that meant. Okay, I just that was the beginning of something. Now, if I could go back, I'd probably be like let's go a little deeper on that Rach, like, let's go a little deeper on that, let's take some action. What do you feel called to do? Ask yourself that question and really dig deep and answer it.
Speaker 1:Okay, the second thing I want you to ask yourself is what is the easiest way to try it. So, let's say, you feel called in the health and wellness space, like you, just, you have a passion about health and wellness and you just you could see yourself coaching or doing something in that area. So what is the easiest way that you could step into, like a one little foot, like a foot into that? What is the easiest way you could try that? Maybe it's going live one time to talk about ways to get healthy in the new year. I don't know Y'all. I love that I've picked wellness, because that is not my area of strength. Okay, do you know what I say? But anyway, what is the easiest way or what is the easiest step you can take into that, into what you feel called to do now?
Speaker 1:Also, spoiler alert, you're going to have a lot of negative self-talk around this because your mind is going to want to come up with all the reasons why we should wait. No, no, no, no, let's wait until you're more comfortable. No, no, no, no, let's wait until you're no, no, no, no, let's wait until you're more comfortable. No, no, no, no, let's wait until you're no, no, no, no, let's wait. Don't let that happen. Take that small step. That's the third one.
Speaker 1:What's the small action you can take today? What is a small action you can take today? Let's go back to that wellness example. Maybe you are going to go live on the five ways that you can get healthy in the new year. That's what you're going to do. That's the easiest way to try it today. Why don't you put it on your calendar? You don't have to do it today. Your small action could be you're going to put it on the calendar. Or your small action could be that you are going to map it out and outline it and put it on the calendar. Okay, that's a small action that you can take and listen, if you're listening to this on Christmas Eve, maybe your small action because if you celebrate Christmas, today's a busy day for you, I'm sure maybe the small action could literally be writing it on your calendar as to when you're going to do it.
Speaker 1:Listen, I want you to take action rather than waiting for perfection, because it's never going to be perfect. It is never going to be the right time if you wait for that. I remember when Mark and I got married. I remembered hearing people say, oh, if you wait, you know we wanted kids and people would say, oh, if you wait until you're ready, or you wait until you're financially stable, you're going to. You're never going to have kids, right. Like you always, there are always reasons, right, why you can't do something now. Now, I'm glad that we waited to have kids, very glad, but waiting is never. You're never going to have the perfect time. You just got to take action now and we've got to let go of everything being perfect. Really, the biggest thing we have to let go of is is of us feeling like we're not ready because you are ready. That's how you get ready. Remember what I said at the beginning like taking action is what's going to help you get to that space of having the clarity and of being ready. You just have to do it, girl.
Speaker 1:I was not ready. I was not ready to start my own business. I was not ready to start a podcast. I was not ready. I'm not ready to do really anything in my. I was not ready to start a podcast. I was not ready. I'm not ready to do really anything in my life, but I do it because you've got.
Speaker 1:It's messy y'all, it's so messy. I look back at the past five years and I'm like, wow, that was that's a messy five years. That's a really messy five years. Like I wish I could clean some of that up a little bit. But you know what? Of that? Up a little bit? But you know what? I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't had that messy five years. Right, your next big thing isn't going to wait for you to feel ready. So why are you? Why are you waiting? Just start. I promise you the magic happens after you take that first step.
