Welcome to the Direct Sellers Podcast, the podcast for direct sellers who are ready to get uncomfortable, build their business and grow a team while changing the face of the direct sales industry. I'm your host, rachel Perry. Join me as we get real and talk about all the things you need to kick some serious direct sales booty From overcoming limiting beliefs to sharing the exact strategies you need to attract the right people who become customers and beg to join your team. I've got you covered, girl. I'm going to be your new BFF when it comes to balancing life and kids while building your direct sales business with poise, peace of mind and, of course, a good set of fake eyelashes. Let's get started. Hi friends, welcome back to another episode of the Direct Sellers Podcast. I'm your host, rachel Perry, and today we're going to talk about what you should be doing instead of more parties.
Speaker 1:Oh my gosh. Here's the thing. If you're still relying on parties to grow your business, I think we need to talk. It's not the parties don't work, it's that it's slightly outdated model, it's not scalable, it's exhausting, it's unpredictable. And let me tell you why it's not scalable it's exhausting, it's unpredictable. And let me tell you why it's not scalable parties take you showing up to be there, whether it's online, whether it's in person, it's you. You can't, you know, have someone else do that for you. So when it's you, it becomes very hard to make it scalable. Now I do have people in my expand program who gosh they. They do 10, 15, 20 parties a month, but they're exhausted. They're so exhausted and it's even more exhausting when the parties don't happen right. When you put all that work into hostess coaching and they just ghost you or people don't show up or people don't purchase, right. It's just very unpredictable. So parties are, they're a great tool, but I don't think they should be your only tool in building your business. Here's the thing what you should be focusing on more is how to build your brand so that you are attracting more people to you. You are serving them in a deeper way.
Speaker 1:Now, listen, I get it. Parties are great because you get in front of more people faster, and that's how it used to be. It was such a great model for so long, but now it's just a hustle. Have you felt that Like?
Speaker 1:If you are doing parties, it's a hustle. It's a constant hustle, and when you depend on parties and you depend on vendor events and then you don't get the results that you want. It's out of your control, really, because you can't control who shows up. You can't control if the hostess shares with her people. It's out of your control. And the level of hustle that you do just to get a $1 thousand dollar party is a lot and it's exhausting and it's not sustainable. Now, is it possible 100%? Are the tippy top leaders doing this? Probably, but I'm just really concerned right now about the level of hustle that I'm seeing with those who are doing so many parties a month. And on the other side of that, I'm also concerned about the mindset shifts and the self not loathing, but when you're not getting parties or when the parties are canceling or you just can't seem to get people to host, I'm seeing a lot of self-loathing amongst direct sellers, so it's like it's just frustrating on both sides of it. Now, are parties necessary? They are sometimes, but I really am going to encourage you to start branching out and you've heard me talk about building your backup plan and we'll get to that in a second and branding yourself, but these are things you need to be looking at because this hustle is just not sustainable.
Speaker 1:And listen, I also want to make sure you have a way when you do have these parties. I want to make sure you have a way that you are capturing people's emails, because if you are only relying on the people who purchase from you to fill your list, you're missing the boat. There may be people who are interested in what you have to offer but just can't purchase right now. But if you're only catching the people's email addresses who purchase, you're losing out on all those other people who are interested because you don't own, you don't have their email. There needs to be a way that you are capturing emails in these parties so that you can connect with them on a deeper level and build a relationship.
Speaker 1:Now, will everyone who comes to your parties want to be on your email list? No, but you need to make the offer, and the way to do that is to offer something in return. Maybe you have a free PDF guide that they are interested in, a free PDF guide that they are interested in. Maybe you offer a coupon. Maybe you have a special VIP list that you're going to invite them to be a part of. Whatever that is, you need to make sure that you are capturing their information so that you own that piece of the list, because if you're only relying on the back end of your direct sales company, you're not in control of that list, right? So I really want you to open your eyes to these parties and really, like, take a hard look at the lifestyle that you are leading.
Speaker 1:The hustle that you are under I guess that you are, the hustle that you are adopting is part of your life and think, okay, what do I want in my business? And if you're loving the parties, keep going. But really monitor closely this hustle, because it's a lot. I have girls in my expand program who are sending hundreds of messages, and not that they're doing copy and paste, but like I'm thinking that that in order to send that many messages, like there's got to be some form of that, there's got to be a way for you to connect with people and there's got to be some form of that. There's got to be a way for you to connect with people and there's got to be a way for you to do it without you having to hustle to this degree. Now, if you've got a system and it's working for you, don't stop. That's. I'm not saying quit now.
Speaker 1:Okay, I just want you to hear me when I say I really want you to monitor this hustle, because this party model, while it works and y'all direct sales companies do not want me saying this, the party plan companies do not want me saying this, but it is an old way of doing business. Now, when I say this, I often have direct sellers who are like well then, what can I do instead? And the thing is is, unfortunately, the things that I'm going to suggest aren't going to be quick turnarounds, but they are going to help you build a more sustainable business that will stand like it will be longstanding, assuming the company doesn't, you know, close. So what I want you to do is start thinking about who you are. What makes you different? What are you beyond your product? What can you help people do? How can you build trust? Because, remember, it's not just about making sales, even though, yes, we want to make some money. It's not just about that. It's about building trust. So how can you do that? How can you stand out? Because creating a recognizable brand, if you will, is what's going to make your selling easier, it's going to increase your referrals and it it really does build the sustainability. So I want you to think about, like, what is what is recognizable about you? And I want you to think about what you offer beyond parties, beyond your product, beyond your VIP group. What can you offer? What do people ask you for advice on? Or what do people comment on from your stories or from your posts? What are they? What? What makes you stand out to them? Okay, I want to know, I want to know. You need to know this information, because then you can lean into this.
Speaker 1:I'm actually speaking at a summit in the next few weeks. It's called Rockstar Moms, I think Rockstar, the Rockstar Moms Summit, and I'm talking about and it's not just for entrepreneurs, it's not just for network marketers, it's for moms. So there are going to be moms who are at home. There are going to be moms that are, you know, working full time in corporate. There are going to be moms that have their own businesses, and I'm going to be talking about building a brand.
Speaker 1:Everybody needs to build a brand. I know that sounds ridiculous because, like, if you don't have a business, why do you need a brand? But here's the thing when you build a brand, you're building a presence. It's what people say about you. It opens more doors to more opportunities. It also brings so much more to other people's lives. Because when you are sharing things that you excel in, when you are sharing things that come naturally to you, when you are speaking to, you know that one person and you're solving a problem. It resonates so much and, with that being said, it's also helping you build a much stronger business, because you are being known for one thing, or not even just one thing, but you are becoming more recognizable. You're standing out from the sea of network marketers Y'all. There are so many network marketers out there. What makes you different? Now I have to share this next part, because I'm not going to stop talking about it y'all. Okay, and that is it's.
Speaker 1:It's a little bit dicey and a little bit scary to be reliant on one stream of income when it comes to your direct sales business. If your direct sales business is your stream of income, that's how you are. You know, supporting your family, that's how you are making ends meet, that's how you're paying the bills. I implore you to start thinking about what is a second stream of income that you could add to your life. Listen, a backup plan doesn't mean quitting. It means creating options. Okay, and that goes back to when we were just talking about your brand and like what you're really good at. What are some things that you could do, some simple ways that you can add an additional stream without really adding more work, and this is what I'm teaching inside your backup plan.
Speaker 1:I'm teaching these ladies to build a small digital product that they can then turn around and sell to their audience. They already have an audience with their direct sales company, right, with their customers and their team members. Now let's keep going with that audience and build something that they want, okay, that they will pay for, and this is a small priced product. Listen y'all, I've said it before and I'll say it again I built a six-figure business selling a $19.99 mini course. Were we underpricing that mini course 150%? But it still stands that we built this, we built a business out of this one product.
Speaker 1:Okay, and you can too. It doesn't have to be complicated, it doesn't have to be overwhelming. It doesn't mean you have to give up your direct sales business. It just means you need to start something else as well, and I'm here to help you do that, okay, so what are you going to do? Instead of adding more parties to your life? Okay, to your calendar, you're going to start creating the content that attracts the right buyers to you so you don't have to chase them. How do you do that? You create a brand that builds trust beyond your product. What can you start sharing that goes beyond your product? What solutions can you solve? Where do you shine? What comes naturally to you?
Speaker 1:Okay, I'm thinking about doing a challenge to help you guys figure out what your superpower is and what your backup plan could be Like. Would that sound like? I don't know if it would be free or if it would be like $19, but it would be at low cost either way. What do you think? I would love to know. But listen, the thing is, is the easiest way to start this backup plan, to start this additional revenue stream, is to do what you already know and love. What are you already doing? What could, how could we create some money out of that? Because then what happens is this need for parties diminishes a little bit because you're making money in other ways, in a much more passive way.
Speaker 1:I'm just saying. I'm just saying, sister, this is your sign, this is your sign. If you are stuck in this party cycle. This is your sign. To pivot are stuck in this party cycle. This is your sign to pivot building a brand and a backup plan is going to give you control, stability and freedom. Does that mean stop doing parties? No, does that mean quit your direct sales business? Absolutely not. It just means let's start figuring out what's the extra thing we can add right now. That isn't going to take a lot of time, it's not going to add more hustle, but it could definitely give you more control, stability and freedom.
Speaker 1:Sister, if you want to know more about this backup plan that I'm talking about, you're interested in getting into this program where these ladies are getting results.
