Could an eating disorder be masking - or 'overshadowing' - neurodivergence?

Join us for this 30-minute lunchtime webinar where members of the tastelife team are joined by Caroline, an Integrative Therapist, mental health training facilitator and one of our Accredited tastelife Leaders. As someone who is Neurodivergent, Caroline speaks with personal understanding of how neurodivergent individuals may display behaviours that are masking - or overshadowing - their neurodivergence. In this webinar Caroline explains how the behaviours associated with an eating disorder can overshadow the real underlying cause of a person's difficulties. When neurodiversity goes unrecognised, treatment may focus solely on the eating disorder, leaving the individual's needs unmet and making recovery more challenging.

Join us for this insightful webinar as we explore the concept of overshadowing, why it matters, and what families and carers can do when they feel there may be more to the story.

Together, we'll discuss:

  • What 'overshadowing' means and why it happens
  • Signs that may suggest an underlying neurodivergence
  • How to navigate conversations with clinicians
  • When and how to seek a second opinion
  • Practical ways to advocate confidently for the support you or your loved one needs

Whether you're supporting a loved one, working professionally in the field, or simply wanting to understand more, this webinar aims to provide greater clarity, practical advice and reassurance.

You'll leave with a better understanding of:

  • Why recognising neurodiversity can be an important part of recovery
  • What to look out for
  • How to ask the right questions
  • How to stand your ground and feel more confident when advocating for appropriate care

We look forward to welcoming you for what promises to be an informative and thought-provoking conversation.

This podcast-style webinar is suitable for anyone aged 16+.
