Welcome everyone. It's Tears Anger Podcast, where as always, our main course for you will be hopefully talking and teaching you more about bass fishing. But of course, that does not come without a distraction or 10 here or there, especially on today's episode. Whether here to learn or just hear some bassin banter, you guys in the right spot. As always, I'm your host, Bailey Igbert. And joined with me is the bassin captain, Mr. Andy Full, Night Host Finist, Mr. Adam Deacon. Fellas, how are we doing? Good.
SPEAKER_05I like that good.
SPEAKER_01Clean A meeting. Clean and straight to the point. Nothing about Deacon's mustache. No, there's nothing.
SPEAKER_03It's just finest. That's all it is. He's just fine. And you said that good. It sounded like it was painful for that.
SPEAKER_01Good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that was like good.
SPEAKER_01Good man. No, no, we're good.
SPEAKER_03Don't worry, folks. Andy's not getting a colonoscopy. He's here. He's on the show. He's he's just fine. He's alive and well. Well, yeah. Deke, he's not alive and well because his shoulder hurts from from catching 28 pounds. Oh man. All these smallmouth. It's been good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, give it give us give the people a little a little breakdown of what you said earlier, Andy, because this has to be public knowledge.
SPEAKER_01You know, like shoulders are a little sore, been netting a lot of doubles, a couple triples. Big bass. We've been averaging like four and three quarters basically every time they set the hook in 40, 50. One day, I think we had 105, like just oh no, my shoulder eight hours straight up lifting doubles.
SPEAKER_04Four pounders like remote. Yeah, it's and he doesn't need to go to the gym. He's just lifts five pounds of small mouth into the boat all the time. It's just, it's just no, it's a long-term play. You do a hundred of those a day. Like that's it's good. I can see shoulders on the shoulders. Okay, good on the left. I don't, I'm not, I don't feel bad for you. I can't. No, I don't feel bad either. Okay, because you sounded like it was a complaining.
SPEAKER_03And no, no, it's fine. I'm I'm just good. I think it's gonna be your Instagram bio, dude. It's just smallmouth guide. I only lift shoulders.
SPEAKER_01There you go. I was like this, right?
SPEAKER_04That's what smallmouth looked like. Just like that's true.
SPEAKER_01All traps, nothing else. All traps, baby. Oh, I love it when you get like a four-pounder and they got like that humpback right behind the eyes. You're like, that's gonna be a giant in two years.
SPEAKER_03You know, smallmouth like the guys at the gym that are like walk around like this with no legs, no legs at all. No legs.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Would be what?
SPEAKER_04Step small a human smallmouth would be like 250 pounds and built. Like it would be like a refrigerator on wheels. So be Brian Erlacker. It'd be a middle linebacker that is just as mean as they come. That's what a freaking smallmouth. Whose only diet is gobies and bait fish. And he's fast, but he is just an absolute hammer. And it's like, man, watch out. Like fullback running back comes to the hole, he takes out both. The kind that loves pain, too.
SPEAKER_01Just one arm, only one arm as well. Like, yeah. Love it.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's good. It's good to hear things are going well, Andy.
SPEAKER_01It's nice to have the boat back. Yeah, dude, how's the Suzuki treating you? Um, it's good. I still need to figure out a prop, but I've been too dang busy to actually do research and find the right prop. I know I have to go up in size. It's just which one do I want to buy, etc. I probably have to go to a 25 or a 26 blade three prop, which is huge in my opinion for a 200. But yeah, it just I'm running, I'm running out of speed before I limit out on the RPMs at like 56 miles an hour. No matter what I do, I can't get over 56, and I'm redlining at like now that I have a hot foot, it's probably less than three-quarters throttle. So, and it's screaming at me. Light beeping, rev limit, and I'm like, yeah, it's good. But it gets on pad incredible. Even with like two clients in the boat, I'm up on pad in like two seconds, maybe super quick. And I even loaded the live well one day with two clients just to see, and it just hopped right up. And I'm like, that's awesome.
SPEAKER_03Well, if we got any folks out there with any recommendations for Andy, slide in the DMs, send us an email, contact Andy, one of the two.
SPEAKER_01I feel like it's like I'm praying to like a god at that point because it's so hard to find information on Suzuki's and bass boats.
SPEAKER_03When you find out, Andy, then then you can be the information. We will I will let I will let the world know. Reporting here first. Deke, what's been on, what's been going on with you, dude?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, man. Um, I've been getting out fishing every once in a while, be honest. Not as much as I would like. Um have been freaking jammed work-wise, uh, real estate ranch, real estate wise. It is it is busy season for sure, which is which is good. Not complaining. But excited to get fishing here soon. Got a derb this weekend, uh local ABA on Lake Owai. It's Owai, bro.
SPEAKER_01I know is that the lake that used to be like insanely good.
SPEAKER_04It's still very good, but it's not what it was. That's right. But it's uh I'm excited to get out there. They should be doing kind of everything post-spawn, largemouth and smallmouth. Um, so gonna be a fun place in a remote part of the world, which I do not mind every once in a while. It'll probably be hot, but uh looking forward to a busy finish of the work week and then heading out there for a couple of two days of uh no cell service. There you go.
SPEAKER_05There you go.
SPEAKER_01Enjoy, enjoy the isolationism.
SPEAKER_03Isolation ism. What was the ism on?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, much of our I don't know. Enjoy the isolation. Seven figured out yet. And he's got his own vocab. It's a long day. Yeah, it's been a long day. That's what we need to do, D. Eventually, we need to have like our little book of anteisms. Yeah, andisms, yes.
SPEAKER_04I was just gonna say anteisms, baby.
SPEAKER_01There's a long list of them, don't you?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's great, especially via text.
SPEAKER_01English was not my major or my minor, so I apologize.
SPEAKER_04English was not my first language, apparently, either. No. Uh what about you, Bailey? How have things been for you?
SPEAKER_03Uh good. We've been had a long bender over in Minnesota, which I think that needs to be a yearly thing now, is Minnesota's just freaking awesome. Uh, like to the point where we had Tuma on the show last week, but um we went out fishing with Tuma the last day I was in Minnesota, and we're getting off the water after like a 40-50 all-frog fish day and had like 20-ish pounds and like awesome day. And we got off and goes, Yeah, you have to come back in August when it's good. And I'm like, what do you mean? Like this was this was great. And uh yeah, dude, like we thought we had stupid fish in New York, but they got their fish in Minnesota are just straight dumb. You know, they they don't have like the the amount of six pluses we have here in New York and some other states in the north, but that just sheer number of fish and different ways you can fish and that sort of deal is just incredible. So I really enjoyed time in Minnesota, had a derb on Saturday, local derb, got fifth out of 50 something, and uh sucked it up, broke off a bunch of times. I'm I'm learning with that the sinking braid, there's a a quick uh expiration date on uh on sinking. Uh at least I was using All Might, and All Might's great, but I think there's a hard expiration date because it's it seemed to get brittle. Um like my line broke three times, like 10 feet up my leader knot, the braid would snap. Uh on even like an easy, soft, lean hook set like drag was fine. And so I'm learning I gotta be diligent in checking that, changing it out, that sort of thing when they're using that. Because it was a it was for me a heavy scope, scope derb, had the sniper pole rocking most of the day off the kayak with megalive two, and it was fun. You know, got into a lot of fish. They're being weird though. But walking away with a fifth after dumping a bunch of big ones is I guess I'll take it. So all good. Yeah, we're going out this week. Get some revenge on them. But yeah, we gotta with that being said, we got a fun freaking uh episode today where we don't talk scoping. Uh, and that is uh Andy, give us a little glimpse into what the folks can expect on today's episode.
SPEAKER_01Long overdue, right? Like, but we have Seth Fider joining us, and we're breaking down this year's adventures for him on the Elite Series, maybe a little swim jib, swim jib, swim jig time, yeah, at uh lake lake fork and all of the uh competitive changes that he has endured throughout his elite series tenure. So it's a good one, a lot of juicy nuggets in it for sure.
SPEAKER_03There's a lot of those. That's for that's for damn sure. Especially when you're dealing with Seth, you're getting straight. Uh no BS, that's for dang sure.
SPEAKER_01But uh yeah, we're straight swim gym. That's right. That's all we're doing.
SPEAKER_03Uh Dek, what's been uh what's been the buzz around the industry?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, man. Um, not much is on the business side, but again, this segment, folks, is the business from the bass boat uh segment brought to you by Rec Lending. If you are in the market for a boat or at least want to see where you're at from a financing standpoint or a recreational vehicle, give them a shout. Great folks over there. Show went out if you missed it, actually. Um two days ago, uh, where we talked all about buying a used bass boat, what it takes, what the market's doing right now, with uh both Todd from Rec Lending as well as Levi from Jones Marine. So good insights there on hey, what the boat market doing. I it changed total different than than what it was a year ago today, and even this fall. Complete changes. Depends on how you look at it. Better better buyers market, and I don't want to spoil the whole whole show, but I would say that the biggest absolute switch, I mean complete shift here, is that used boats are selling. Used boats are selling fast, they can't keep them on the lots, and so it's it's not a bad time to sell a sell a used boat, and new boats are struggling to sell. Whereas previous this year and last fall, when I considered selling my boat, and Andy and I, you and I both kind of talked about selling boats, it was a pain in the butt to sell a used boat. Nobody was buying, prices were over, you know. So so it was an interesting market shift there that's going on. Um, so something to keep keep in the back of the mind, which is I guess that's a good segment to talk about. But in the tournament side of things, um we had no scoping. Get ready for this. Wes Logan on Ten Killer, yeah, right? Bassmaster Leeds, Keith Pochet on the James River and Tackle Warehouse Invitational, then NPFL, the average fisherman, Chad Marlar winning. They don't use scope in the NPFL in the first place. So we literally had a non-forward facing uh three major tournaments won in the month of June. Is this just something that's gonna happen, guys? Is the month of June just like when there's high water and things that like, or is it schedule change? What's your what's your take here? I mean, this is blows me away. Three major tournaments not being utilized with forward facing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's kind of like a weird time, right? Like it's a big transition time depending on where you are. Obviously, high water always sucks fish shallow, but when you're coming into the post spawn in a colder than average spring all across the US for the most part, those fish are just slightly behind. I I'd be interested to see what next June looks like after what type of winter we have and see if the statistics align. But I think I don't think it's an anomaly. I think there's always fish where they are, but I think what's helping it is the cold spring along with the late spawn, along with high water. But because there were people catching them scoping, right? But like at Ufala when the water is so high, scope is kind of irrelevant in high dirty water. Yeah, not completely irrelevant, but it kind of forced it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, less I guess efficient in that certain certain circumstance. Good lord, I'm getting the Andesms. Um, but I'm gonna use that for now. But no, you detailed it perfect, Andy, and I think it was kind of like a little perfect storm, if you will, of that just to get up shallow. But I think Andy, you detailed it perfect. I think the one thing I would add on that is this reinforces why the schedule, the schedule aspect of this is so important to it, where it's it could be dominated by tech if they went to Hartwell or Smith or these lakes that are going to be won that way. Whereas the schedule here, it's it could be won any way you wanted it to. Uh, and so I think that played a huge role uh in that part. And hopefully these trails just get more diligent in in that. I think they did a great job across the across the board. I mean, obviously in NPFL, there's no forward facing at all, but I think um, you know, MLF and um the elites did a great job with scheduling and just forcing the anglers to be in multiple different scenarios, and that's that's why you're getting the the best the best right now. And you just it helps though that we did have a lot of a lot of water around the whole country, which is interesting to say the least.
SPEAKER_04But that but that does kind of that can't, I mean this is the time of year where that does happen, right? Um not every year, but it happens a lot this time of the year.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I don't remember if I was sorry, I was saying I don't remember if I was tuned in on live shortly for 10 killer or if it was like a clip I saw on Instagram, but it was Trey McKinney, and he was like, Yeah, I can go out deep and scope them and catch a bunch of like two pounders or three pounders, but those ultimately aren't what are not gonna be what helps me win this tournament. I need to get up on the bank. That's where it seems like the bigger fish are, and that could be a byproduct because of the high water, it just it sucks those fish shallow, all the bait goes shallow. There's all kinds of new stuff for shad to hide in, bluegill to hide in. So, yeah, I think schedule is a huge part of it, but I mean, I think it was more high water based, honestly.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, no, totally agree. I mean, there's always whenever there's a high water situation, there's bushes, man. There's no telling how many five-pounder pluses are up there.
SPEAKER_03Guys like our guest today, Seth Snyder will probably see high water, see all the bushes, and start drooling, thinking about what they're gonna do.
SPEAKER_04And say, why would I even put uh forward piecing in the water? Just go get on that that should be a new t-shirt. I like the bush.
SPEAKER_03And it's just a lot about the bush.
SPEAKER_04Just a picture of a willow bush and a five-pounder.
SPEAKER_03Dude, you could take so many angles of that. Live in the bush, you know. Just he could take so many different routes of that.
SPEAKER_04Bring back the bush fishing. Bring back the bush. Bring back the bush. I love it. Okay, uh, last comment here to wrap things up in this segment. Uh, I would be remiss if I did not say uh Bam Pro Am. Folks in the Northwest, or if you're in the West in general and want to see a unbelievably unique fishery this weekend, last minute here, June 27th to the 29th, Bam Pro Am on potholes in Washington State. They're currently needing boaters. I think they have more non-boaters than boaters signed up. So if you're a boater, non-boater, anybody, keep signing up. And it's cool to see a push from the Western Circuit into the Northwest that is not done very often. And Mark and the BAM guys are trying to make that happen. So they are having good success, but would love to see even more numbers there. And I'm a critic critic right now because I am fishing a different tournament this weekend and stuck working. So I am not gonna be there, but you should go because you're better than me.
SPEAKER_03And that's it. Go through the bush, go up the potholes.
SPEAKER_04Anyway, go fish. Yeah, that too. That very much will be happening.
SPEAKER_03That's awesome. Well, hell yeah. Hopefully, uh well, we will have in the couple next couple of weeks some more, I would say, diversified business from the bass boat segments coming at you guys with iCast being uh obviously that happening, more things will be introduced, different ships uh shifts will happen, excuse me. Um, I guess the one thing we could have talked about, and we'll probably talk about next week, is uh certain brands that have pulled out of iCast and how that might change iCast for future, but that could be a whole show in itself. Um, but so there's that, and we'll have that all covered uh once iCast comes around. We'll have that in that this segment. But um, before we get into the show right now with Seth, uh we're talking about this time of year, June. A lot of rain typically this time of year. Obviously, temperatures are getting hot. It's been 90s here in New York, uh, but also paired in with the longest days of the year. Uh, so it's a perfect time to shout out our partners. Uh one amped outdoors, if you're spending dark to dark this time of year, you're spending a lot of time on the water, which means you need the power to be able to do so. Uh, you don't want to run out of it. So check out amped outdoors to power your guys' boat, kayak, things like that. And uh with it also being um, you know, hot, sunny, things like that, Hobie Iwear, take care of yourself and especially have uh some shades that uh can you know reduce the headaches, things like that while you're out in the water. And if you want to jump in, the nice part is that they float. So you'll they'll probably float up faster than you will. Uh so give those a gander. There's $20 off a pair now. If we guys go and check them out at HobieWare.com or the link down below. If you automatically click our link, it adds the $20 off to your cart. Um, so it helps you guys out there. And then uh uh yeah, especially Deacon, you've been rocking the the commanders, the new style of Hobie. Yeah, man. You posted a little spicy reel the other day.
SPEAKER_04A little spicy reel, baby. It's it's summertime. Tops off. Here we go. Uh yeah, man. The commanders are sick, they're super comfortable shades. I get compliments on them all like around town or anywhere else. Little column A, little column B, you know. These things nothing wrong with getting compliments. That's right. Uh there's a couple of other new ones out, by the way. Um, field and stream exclusives, the Frontiers and the Pioneers, similar kind of style, as far as uh as aviator-ish or top gun-ish that you will from a from a sunglass style, not your typical fishing style sunglasses, which hey man, I don't I use them all. But when I'm not sight fishing like crazy, if I'm staring at forward-facing sonar, or I am maybe not looking at the bank necessarily, I don't feel like I need to have all the wrapped tight, you know, sight flash. That's when I'm generally doing, or the sight lenses is generally when I'm utilizing those. So I'd rather be in a comfortable pair of shades, it's easy on the face. And so that's those are the ones I've been rolling.
SPEAKER_03If you have that um Halloween time, you mean you already have to be top guy.
SPEAKER_04Super trooper.
SPEAKER_03Or super troopers, one of the two. Very true. Uh last but not least, uh Omni Efficient. Right now, there's 20% off St. Croix mojo rods. That's until the 28th. So if you guys want to take advantage of those, but uh fellas, I think without further ado, Mr. Seth Fighter. All right, folks. We are joined with the one and only Mr. Seth Fighter. Seth, how's things going, man?
SPEAKER_00Good. Thanks for having me.
SPEAKER_03Heck yeah, it was a nice smooth sailing back from from 10 killer.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, yeah, that's a close one for me.
SPEAKER_03How how close is close in your scale of things?
SPEAKER_00Uh, I think anything less than 17 hours is close, pretty much. Everywhere else I go, you know, 7, 18 to 24 or so. Um, yeah, 10 killer is only like 11 hours, 12 hours maybe. That's not bad then. No.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03You get to uh finish finish off the season close to home.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, a couple hours from the house. Heck yeah, dude. So actually, this year, honestly, I think it's probably been like the least amount of driving I've ever had to do. So we had a couple, and the Texas ones are close for me, Oklahoma's close. Uh, we don't go to New York this year for the first time ever. Uh St. Clair's close, the cross is close, and just had Florida and the Carolinas. And um yeah, it wasn't a bad year for driving.
SPEAKER_03We're gonna have a bunch of people from Wisconsin, Minnesota that are going on their Google Maps right now, and they heard you say from Minnesota that Texas is close. They're gonna be like, oh, actually, you know what? Look at that.
SPEAKER_00Dude, I can be a lake fork in like 14 hours, it's like straight down 35 the whole way.
SPEAKER_03Not bad.
SPEAKER_00It's pretty easy drive.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you know you're a pro-angler when you say 14 hours is close.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it is so skewed too, and I love it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, oh yeah, you just get up in the morning and you're there by dinner. I mean, chip shot.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you got your local derbers that are like, ah, two hours, three hours, that's way too far. 14's pretty good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, compared, you know, if I go to New York, like yeah, St. Lawrence or Champlain, they're like 20 some hours away. And oh shoot. Uh I mean, Florida's the same deal, like probably 22, 23 hours to an hour ago, Okeechobee or um wherever.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I gotta ask 'cause I did the I did the drive a couple weeks ago. Uh I had a trip up to uh the Brainerd area and I drove through Chicago uh like an idiot and I was told I should have taken the UP uh route through there. Do you take that or do you just bite the Chicago's quicker?
SPEAKER_00Well, I guess if you're going to Brainerd, see, I'm like I'm probably almost three hours south of Brainerd. So it might it might be a better route for you to go through the UP. But for me, it's quicker to go through Chicago.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03I was told it's longer, but it's less headache.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, less headache and a prettier drive. I just that bridge over, was it the Mackinac Bridge or whatever? That thing creeps me out. Like I don't want to, I don't know. It's way too high and it sways in the wind, and I don't like getting on it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03My Google Maps wasn't updated right, and it took me through a little bit of South Chicago, and I was petrified. Yeah, it's rough. No thanks. Yeah, it's traffic 24-7.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. Well, dude, uh, so far this year 2025, uh sitting in 22nd AOI. Good season for you. I guess kind of like up to this point. How's it from your POV? How's it been for you?
SPEAKER_00Uh no complaints. I've had a few really good tournaments and a few not so great tournaments kind of balanced out, but uh um way she goes. A lot better than last year, so no complaints on my end.
SPEAKER_03With the uh with the new payout structure this year, does it is it better to have some of more of the high ends than middle of the roads, if that makes any sense from a from a money standpoint?
SPEAKER_00I have not a clue how much money I won this year. Uh I know I paid a lot less in entry fees, but I don't I don't know. I don't know whatever checks not all the things.
SPEAKER_04It's not on me.
SPEAKER_00Well, I yeah, I just I mean I don't like hang around to pick them up, they just send them to the house, the wife gets them, direct deposits them, or whatever she does. And yeah, I don't know, I just fish.
SPEAKER_03The credit card goes through, you're winning, baby. That's yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04That is fantastic.
SPEAKER_01That's that's living right there. That is living.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, hell yeah. Well, dude, let uh Andy, let's get in a little bit about uh that fork event, man. I know we were pretty curious on that one.
SPEAKER_01Speaking of Texas, yeah. Speaking of Texas, right? Like swim jigging fork. So, like, what clued you into that swim jig pattern there and enabled you to catch the big ones like you did?
SPEAKER_00Um, you know, I think I got really lucky. I I think it was kind of an area deal because um I was fishing differently than Greg Hackney, but he was the only one else up in that area and out is out of the like bank beater shallow water guys, we had the you know the best tournament out of the rest of the guys. Um, so I think there's something about that area because I know everybody was going around the lake, at least in the morning, throwing a white swim jig shad spawn kind of deal. And honestly, I didn't I didn't really know, you know, I had seen some big spawners in practice, and you know, I'd been through that area. I think it was maybe the first day of practice. Um, I caught some four-pounders, nothing crazy, but I I figured I could go up there quick in the morning, catch me a little 18, 20 pound bag, and then go, you know, try to find a couple six, seven, eight pounders on beds and catch those and have a mediocre tournament. And um, you know, with the exception of the last day, I think I well, I guess the last two days. I mean, I was the first two days I was leaving the shad spawn was like over 26 pounds. They just some big ones showed up. I was, you know, I was catching some five to seven pound fish in the morning right away, which I wasn't expecting, and um got really lucky in that regard, and then was able to make some good calls late in the day, you know, sight fishing.
SPEAKER_04Man, quick question there on the shad spawn deal. I mean, we did an episode on this recently, but I every time, and I'm not a shad spawn guy, I've I've done it like fishing in college. I did spend some time in Texas and Arkansas and chase some of the shad spawn stuff, but really don't deal with it in the northwest. Um, I felt like it was random for me. Like I like there was a day where they'd be there, and then there'd be a day where you'd be like, Man, there's shad everywhere. Where'd the bass go? Like, what's what's kind of your take there? Why do you think those five and seven pounders showed up? Or I catch two pounders, right?
SPEAKER_00Like, yeah. Um, I think they were kind of migrating through that area, to be honest with you, because if Hackney was fishing a little bit out and a little bit up from me, and I don't know, like my best two days were the first two days, and his best two days were the second and third day. He he probably would have done better the fourth day had he made it. Um, but the shad spond you kind of gotta like find them every day. Um, I was kind of in an area, but the area I was fishing was maybe uh um not three half to three quarter mile stretch of bank, and they're on different stuff every single day. Like the first day I pulled in, there was like one little cattail clump in between two docks. I literally put my poles down there and caught like 26 pounds out of that little cattail clump. And the rest of the tournament, I don't, I mean, I might have caught one or zero fish a day the next three days off that one clump. Um, seemed like the second day they were really on the seawalls. Um the third day they were really on there was some hyacinth that had blown in there. Um that was kind of the deal on day three, and then on day four, there was just kind of a couple other little stretches of reeds, kind of reed cattail stretches that they're in. I just, I mean, I kind of stayed in that same little, like I said, maybe three-quarter mile zone, but every day was um different. Um there was a bunch of docks and stuff in there too. I never really did much on the docks, but um seemed like they preferred something a little bit different every day. Um, but the nice part with the shad spine, you can fish really fast. If you get if you get anywhere near them, you're gonna know really quick. So um, you know, keeping something and the bait isn't real. Like I think I could have caught most of those fish on a spinner bait or a chatter bait or what have you, a white frog probably too. Um swim jig's just a little, I think a little more versatile and I got a little more confidence in it. But um, you know, something shaddy, white, something you can move water with, and um just run and gun in the morning because it's a it's a short window, you know. If you don't have clouds or anything like that, um, you know, you're looking at an hour tops of uh you know good shad spawn fishing. Um so covering a ton of water right away in the morning is really key. And then you know, kind of keep your eyes open. If you see a bunch of birds somewhere, they'll tip you off on stuff like that. Um, but like to your point, you know, there was shad spawning up and down that whole deal, you know. It wasn't just finding the shad wasn't the key, you know. Um you had to find those bass the shad that were getting eaten by bass, you know. Um, so covering water was kind of a big deal there because that whole I mean Lake Fork, the entire bank had shad on it all the way around it, you know what I mean? And um, there's a lot of catfish and stuff up there too, eating them. Um you just kind of had to relocate them every day.
SPEAKER_03Was that a means of like just getting your your bait wet and just burning ground, or were you like could you visually see bass like blowing up on them type of deal too?
SPEAKER_00Uh I mean I I would see like that first day in the one cattail clump, it I mean the thing was just boiling, like it was stupid. Like that's awesome. Um a lot of fish in there. I could have probably could have caught quite a few more. I was trying to say, but I probably shouldn't have. But um a lot of the fish I saw coming out of the water blowing up were catfish, so I kind of just had to fish for them, like especially on the seawalls. You'd see them like and they kind of sounded like bass too, just be like goosh right on the seawall. But um, I noticed throughout practice in the tournament that a lot of those were just I don't know what kind of catfish they were, just little two-pound channel cats or whatever they were, not flatheads, but um they were up there getting in on the shad deal and a bunch of gar as well, and um definitely bass mixed in with that, but it seemed like the good stuff was just bass. Um, there is where there was a bunch of catfish blowing up that sounded really good and looked good when you were coming up to it. Um, I didn't end up catching too many bass out of.
SPEAKER_03What's your what's your setup for that swim jig deal?
SPEAKER_00Uh I usually go three A's white swim jig with a cross aisle trailer, um, 30-pound braid. I've gone back and forth between like a seven and a seven three. I like a a shorter rod, fast reel, eight to one reel. Um and seems to work well for me. Like uh medium heavy, not nothing real heavy on the this straight braid. It's usually yeah, I'm never really like with that kind of deal. I'm not like bombing casts, it's a lot of you know pitching, skipping, roll casts, like keeping everything tight. I I want to be able to, and it's hard early in the morning, you can't see that well, but I I like to be able to see my jig. Um, that's really why I'm using the white. I you know, I think a natural shad color or something like that work just as well. But I like the bright white just for I can see it, and no one gets it, or if they're biting it weird, sometimes you'll just see your claws disappear and you gotta wait for it to go down another second, then you'll see your jig disappear and set the hook instead of just jerking as soon as something touches it, you know. Um, but most of the time they just get it um hole right away.
SPEAKER_01Right can't be exhilarating when you see a giant mouth open up.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, yeah. Oh, that's my favorite. Get it. Oh man, yeah. They just got it's it's probably my favorite bite. I I mean I like frogging, but the difference with a swim jig and a frog, it just doesn't seem like I don't know what it is about topwater. And don't get me wrong, it'll happen, but it seems like you gotta have your bait further away from the boat to get bit on the topwater where I'll have them eat it up, I'll have them eat a swim jig at my feet, you know what I mean? 10 feet of line out. Yeah, I just don't seem to have have that happen as much on a frog um as I do with a swim jig. So it's still the same bite, you know, that thing's right under the surface, and you get that big thing just come slashing through it and set the hook, and um, it's real visual, but um it just seems like they do it closer to the boat than they will at top water.
SPEAKER_04It doesn't suck. Do you think do you think part of that's because of the speed? I mean, in comparison, right? Like generally, fall frogs may be a little bit slower, or you know, like that swim jig. By the time you're at the boat, you're moving it so fast that they're just falling it, falling it, falling it, and they're just you know so mad they just swing at it.
SPEAKER_00Possibly, yeah. I don't know. I don't know what it is, but that could have something to do with it. No idea. But uh anyways, that I just never fish my top water all the way to the boat, like it doesn't dig and then maybe that's why it is. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Maybe I need to start doing that. Like, wait a second, like why not? Um well, you're talking adjusting in this in this tournament specifically, up and down that bank, uh, which is great to find them each day. Do you feel like there's been any adjustments this year that you've made in general with your your fishing style? I mean, having a great season right now that you can point to, or is it kind of like, man, it's just it's been a it's been a stellar year?
SPEAKER_00Uh I mean, some stuff's gone my way. And last year, I mean, I don't feel like I was fishing bad. I had, you know, kind of some bad luck, bad breaks, you know, key fish getting off, and this year I haven't really had that problem. Um, but one thing I've kind of just committed to um just fishing more my style rather than uh last year, you know, is like and last year was like the scopingest schedule of all time. Um, I really split my time in practice and tournament trying to do both. And this year I've kind of just focused more on um my strengths and just kind of I mean I got it on, and don't get me wrong, I've caught fish off it. Um I use it quite a bit on perspective, blind bed fishing. Um, and when we go to a place like St. Clair or something like that, that's all I'll do. But you know, the places where I can get it done, how I like to fish, I've um you know, I think I've just been more all in on that this year rather than trying to do both and then not do either one very well, you know.
SPEAKER_03That makes sense.
SPEAKER_00I'm getting a little more committed this year to what I'm doing. I love it.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah. Yeah, and with that, dude, um when you won AOI uh and I was back working at gunpowder at the time, and I had to call you to do a press release. One of the things that you said on the phone that even to this day it still sticks with me is uh you said how in practice you don't want to figure it out 100%, you want to get like 75% and get to 100 in the tournament. Um is that mentality still sticking with you now or has that kind of changed at all?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, that's kind of just how I practice and how I fish. I you just it seems like anytime I get too dialed in, um I I get too unwilling to change in the tournament. You know, like every day is a new day, and when I get like really locked in in practice, like um Sabine River, I I was like I knew I was gonna bomb there because I was like so dialed, I was just like calling my shot left and right in practice, and um I I knew it was gonna burn me just because it always does. And um, I like to just kind of you know have a good idea what's going on after practice, you know. Just I just want to be in a couple of the right areas, you know what I mean, and then um really figure them out throughout the tournament and adjust with them. If I get really dialed in on something like where I'm calling my shot all the time in practice, I I typically have really bad tournaments just because it's hard to get off, hard to change and adjust. Um you just keep doing it and keep doing it, and thinking you know, that you're gonna get them on the next one and on the next one, and then you look down and it's two o'clock, and it's like, holy shit, like we're in trouble.
SPEAKER_03You've heard a lot of guys say that, uh, right? It's the bad practices are typically the ones that turn into great events and great practices turn into you know subpar ones. And is there a way to get out of that? Like like you're saying you're calling your shot in practice, is there even a way to be like, oh shit, like I know this is this is what's gonna happen. Is there a way to even change that?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I should have just like quit doing what I was doing and just trying a bunch of other stuff. But I was so dialed, it was like it was hard not to, you know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I feel like once things are feeling that good, it's like hard to sway from that. But you're in that moment. I bet you're it's in your head, you're like, yeah, yeah. We're catching them now.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I feel good at the moment, then I'm sitting there like it's usually like the night before the tournament will hit me. I'm like, oh shit, like I got one thing and one thing only, and like you know, it just it's never the same for a week straight, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they know when it's tournament time.
SPEAKER_03I love it. But I got with that said too, um, with uh with competition wise on the elites, you know, especially since you know your rookie season, uh obviously like in the industry-wise, a lot of things have changed. Um and you year by year a lot has changed, but I guess competition-wise from your POV, like what what has changed most to you like from the competition level on the elites?
SPEAKER_00Oh, it it's the highest it's ever been, no doubt. Like I wish I could go back knowing what I know now and fishing like the first four or five years I did on the elites. Like, I think I would just throttle most of them, you know what I mean? There's like a lot of big name guys, but like it didn't seem like it wasn't that hard to get paid, and now it like it is like you know, um tough. Like, don't get me wrong, it always had really good fishermen, you know. You had like Kevin Van Dam and his heyday and stuff like that. And you're not beating him on the Tennessee River, but uh the level there or the depth of the really good fishermen um has gotten out like out of control. I mean, now it's to the point where you know, before, you know, there was maybe 20, 30 guys that would, if that, that would get a check every single time they fished a tournament. And now guys that are still at that level, I feel like there's you know 60 or 70 of us. So mathematically, obviously we're not getting checks every time we fish, but um, to that level that um, you know, I mean, I I feel like I'm one of them guys that's good enough to like get paid every time I fish, but like I'm I think what we fished like four out of seven this year, yeah, and like having a pretty good year. And like before, I feel like if I was fishing at this level, I'd be you know cashing every tournament I fished. Wow.
SPEAKER_04So that's a really interesting point, man. It's like it's like there's this, I don't know, we've been talking about this some, but like a balancing of the field in general, right? Like there's just not that takeaway, like you said, top 20, 30 guys, it's now spreading further of just like everyone's consistent crazy across the board, which is wild.
SPEAKER_00No, we got like at least 70 plus like hammers, you know. Like it's just uh before too. When I started out, like with the way stuff was set up, like your rookies would come in and you know, maybe a couple of them were good, and a couple few of them might have a chance at making it, you know, if they caught a break, like I did, and then you'd have a few guys that you know got lucky and qualified and probably shouldn't have been there, you know what I mean. Um, but now it's like you get you know, the last three years you get 10 like absolute hammers come in, you know. Um, there's no like the turnover's not coming out of the rookies anymore like it was before, you know. Like they get their grace period, then second year, then half of the rookies, or I guess they'd be sophomores at that point, were gone, and now it's like those kids ain't going anywhere. It's like the the old dudes are getting cleaned out now, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_03What do you think's uh the credit to that? Do you think it's just how fast the learning curve has shortened?
SPEAKER_00Or uh there's a lot to do with it. Uh uh high school fishing, college fishing, those kids are coming out way more prepared. Um, and it's also, you know, at the time when I was coming in, it was more of a because there was no high school college fishing, it was more of a working man's league, you know what I mean. You're getting guys coming in in their 30s that you know had to work, save up money, do the whole deal. Now you're getting kids out of college jumping right into it, but they're way more prepared. Um uh information's way more easily accessible, and then um another thing is when they went to do like the whole nine opens to qualify, no one's getting lucky at that point. Like when I fish the opens, you fish three in one division and qualified, and you could get lucky and make the elite series, you're not gonna get lucky qualifying on points through nine events. I mean, you're getting the cream of the crop every time, so there's a lot to do with it. Um, like I said, the high school college fishing, these kids are coming out of college like in a way better position than some 25-year-old guy that fished team tournaments around his house. Um, I mean, with the internet, you know, YouTube, but the information is so much easily accessible. If you want to figure something out, you can there's something on YouTube explaining everything right now. Um, scope definitely helped with that. And then, like I said, the way the opens with the guys fishing more events are just coming out of there. Um, you're really getting the cream of the crop now coming through the opens. Totally. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01See if you get through all nine on luck, you got quite the horse show.
SPEAKER_00No, yeah, yeah. There ain't no luck getting you through that. No not a chance. That's for dang sure.
SPEAKER_03Uh well man, this one I I love bringing up. We do this uh on every show we can, and it's uh it's a little segment we call the Amped Outdoors Electric Take. And that's they're our preferred lithium choice here at Sirius Tangler. And uh what it is essentially is a bold question hoping for a bold answer. And uh, we love bringing up this, especially guys like yourself that hunt, and uh and especially the this conversation, this topic, and that is uh you know, with uh with hunting, it seems like there's guys that you know, like yourself, uh the hackneys, the Matt Aries, it's the guys that have that killer instinct for the hunt side have that on the fish side. And so with that being said, and what I wanted to ask you was do you think being so passionate about the hunt side of things helps you on the fish side or hurts you on the fish side?
SPEAKER_00Uh both. For the most part, it helps. I think uh, you know, just being aware of your surroundings, how you're moving, how you're approaching stuff. I mean, there's advantages to coming certain directions on certain things and um being stealthy moving around, especially, you know, if you're out on an offshore ledge, it don't matter. But if you're up in a little tiny creek or something like that, uh, you know, the way you move around in the boat and the way you run your troll emotor, and don't shift your weight when you cast and things of that nature um make a big difference when you're you know fishing shallow, tight little areas. Um, you notice a lot with Greg Hackney, he's like the best example. Like that dude is like you know, most people there walk around, they're doing this, and your boat's doing this, and it's throwing wakes and ripples. And like, if you've ever noticed, even if you pull. To like a little creek and you sat down and cut the motor. Or like if you've been way back in a creek like that and someone else has done it, like that wake will run that whole thing. Like it might take a few minutes, but that water's moving, and those fish are living back in a you know a real stable environment, and they know that one little wake coming through there that's gonna alarm them. That human presence, you know what I mean? Just like a deer catching your wind or whatever. Um, but like hackney, you watch him go in them areas, and like he's not walking to this side to make a skip like that or walking over there to make a pitch like that, dude. He's glued and it's just it's all wrists, you know what I mean? It's not he's never shifting his weight or doing anything like that. There's no ripples coming off his boat when he's in those tight little areas moving around. So I think hunting hunting helps me in ways like that, but um at the same time, I'm like so obsessed with turkeys. Like if I hear one gobble when I'm out practicing, it's gonna it's gonna send my brain off the off the tire off the I'll I'm gonna lose focus for a little while, you know what I mean? Or you know, watching ducks fly over or something like that. I get a little distracted sometimes, but uh I think it makes me stealthier and just more aware of my environments picking up on stuff, you know, like birds and things of that nature. So other stuff that tips you off on what's going on in the world.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I love that. If you had to only choose one to hunt the rest of your life, what would you choose?
SPEAKER_00Probably say turkeys at the moment, but I kind of it's because it's still right after season. If you ask me that in November, it'd probably be ducks. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you've been out west chasing ducks, haven't you? Haven't you made it this way?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, sweet man. Yeah, beautiful out there.
SPEAKER_01You do need to add another bird to your hanging bird collection, though. You do need a big turkey in there like full spread.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, I was thinking about the guy that mounts my ducks. Told me to never bring them a turkey. I guess they're like incredibly painstaking work. Like a duck, you can just slick them back and mount them, but like a turkey, you literally, it's like every single feather is placed. Like, obviously, they don't have as many as a duck, but yeah, I guess they're quite the project.
SPEAKER_03That's funny. It looked like you and and Dougie were getting after it pretty hard a couple or a month or so ago. One season was around.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. We I ran up to his place for a couple days. It was fun. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03I was driving up to uh to Brainerd and uh I was passing through there, they're out strutting and stuff, and I I called up uh Thomas Allen up that way, and I was like, when when does when does season end up here? For a friend.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you missed it by a couple weeks.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. That's cool, man. That's sick.
SPEAKER_00Man, I took your buddy out fishing the other day. Yeah, old guy. Yeah, he's just telling me how he beat your ass in a flipping contest, and that's a gun flipping contest.
SPEAKER_03He had one beer to my 10, so we'll give him it. Okay.
SPEAKER_02I like it.
SPEAKER_03So was he talking shit the whole time?
SPEAKER_00No, he just brought up that story. I thought it was funny. So that's awesome. I told him I'd bring it up.
SPEAKER_02I told Kim to talk some shit for me. Okay.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02That's awesome, man. Hell yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, should we get into some quick hitters then, guys? So uh Seth, uh, what are your top three baits of choice this year on the elites?
SPEAKER_00Um I mean, I guess they're kind of the same all the time. It's gonna be swim jig, frog, and a flipping jig. Maybe a Texas rig. Mix that in there, but that that's what I'm catching them good. That's usually how it's going down.
SPEAKER_01So to add on to that, when would you choose a Texas rig over a jig or vice versa?
SPEAKER_00Um Usually kind of mostly around the spawn, I'll go with a Texas rig. If it's straight pre-spawn, it depends on the fishery, you know. If it's a big fish fishery, you know, place where you're you're gonna need four plus pound bites. Um, I'm gonna lean towards a jig. If it's you know a Sabine River or something like that, I'm gonna lead more towards a Texas rig. And then um, if I think they're spawning, even if I can't see them, if we're just getting close to the spawn, I kind of lean more towards a Texas rig than a jig. Dang it. And a lot a lot of times in practice, I'm more Texas rig than jig. I just it comes through stuff a little easier. I feel like I get more bites on it. Um and then, you know, like when I'm flipping grass and stuff in practice, it's always a Texas rig. And then come tournament day, it's almost always a jig. Just kind of targeting bigger fish, but it's it's just easier to cover water with a with a Texas rig, especially depending on the cover you're in. It's just comes in and out better. I get more bites and kind of clues me in faster on stuff, and then I can kind of I guess target the bigger fish with a jig, come tournament tie.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I I know that you made the the craw tube pretty famous, especially for us north folk. Have you found that to be pretty uh successful down south too?
SPEAKER_00Or is that just I honestly I never try it down south. I need to, but um for for me, it's a it's a grass bait. Um, I'm sure it would work in like the pads and reeds and stuff in Florida. Um, I haven't really tried it. I probably should, but um, you know, if I'm in New York or Florida or Minnesota, Wisconsin, like that's my go-to Texas rake soft plastic bait for the most part.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I like it.
SPEAKER_00Hard to beat, but I need to try it. I mean, I think it was invented in Texas, it must work down there. So I don't know. I never just never flipped it down south. I just lose all confidence when I get out up north with it. Like, I don't even bring them in the boat, like don't even pack them in the truck. But like if I go to like New York or Minnesota, it's like that and a bag of jigs is all I bring, you know.
SPEAKER_01He's loading up the truck and he looks at that box and he's like, I'll see you soon.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, oh yeah, I got like a hundred packs of them, and they just leave them at home. I'm sure they work in Florida, I don't know why I don't use them. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well, we'll say this. The next time you go ahead and go out in Florida and you're smoking with a craw too. We'll remember this conversation.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, or I'll bring him next to Mayburn or like Gunnersville, you'd think it'd be the same deal when it's a yeah.
SPEAKER_00I guess I have caught them on Gunnersville on it, but I was flipping Mel FOL. Um, so that's probably the only place down south I've caught him on it. Got it. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, this is a fun one we've been asking some guys lately, and it's basically if you were to be able to pick a team derby partner that's in the elites right now, who would it be and why?
SPEAKER_00Hmm. I mean, Matt Robertson would be mad if I didn't say him because he's my roommate. And depending on where we go, I might pick him, but um he'd he'd actually be a good one. I'd probably go with him because we balance out pretty good. He's kind of more of an offshore deep water guy, and I can beat the bank. So I think we'd make a pretty good team. You know, I'd just go practice shell, he'd go ahead all for three days, and that would be we'll find something between the two of us.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that would be a heck of a team. That would be awesome. Yeah, we need a camera on that boat. Yeah, sure. So and then I guess the second would be, and maybe it's the same answer. Uh, if you were to have another bachelor party, who would who would who would be the one to schedule it that's on the Elite Series right now?
SPEAKER_00I guess Matt. I mean, he takes care of all our Airbnbs and stuff like that. I'm pretty irresponsible. So um, yeah, probably him as well. That's shocking. I love that. Wow, that's yeah, he's the responsible one out of the two of us. Yeah, geez. Oh man. Like I would just I would just show up like the night before practice and be like, oh, I guess I'll we'll just get a hotel here, you know, or something. I'm not a good planner.
SPEAKER_03Probably been many a night sleeping in the truck, I'm sure. Yeah. Love it. Well, dude, uh, to cap things off here before we wrap this sucker up is uh we ask this every time someone, you know, it's their first time on the show. Uh, and that is if you could sit down with three different individuals, they could be it doesn't have to be fishing, you know, they could be alive a thousand years ago, alive now, it doesn't matter, it could be anybody. Just sit down, have a beer, have a steak, pick their brain. What three people would you want sitting at that dinner table?
SPEAKER_00Uh I guess I'll go hackney. Um, Danny Brouwer just because he's my hero. And then uh I'll probably throw Fathergill in there. I'd probably learn more from Father Gill than the other two, but um those are my other two favorite fishermen.
SPEAKER_03So yeah, you get some better stories out of the other two, I'm sure.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but I I'd probably learn more from Fathergill than both of them combined.
SPEAKER_03Have you guys shared the boat yet? Being both from his house.
SPEAKER_00Uh no, we're actually uh we're planning on going out, I think, next week. So but he wants to come down to my house to frog fish, and I don't know. I think he's punking me or something. I don't know. I was kind of hoping to get in a boat with him and do some scoping, but I guess we're just gonna go frogging by my house.
SPEAKER_03So and you should just play the veteran card like no, no, we're going in your boat.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's all right. I mean it's you want to go frog it, I'll go frog it, man. I'm into it. Like, yeah, I'd rather do that. I'd learn more scoping with them, but um yeah. I love that. Hell yeah, dude.
SPEAKER_01That's the follow-up bait. Go scoping next.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Next time we go, I'll make him take me and teach me in some Jedi ways.
SPEAKER_03Some Jedi ways. I love it.
SPEAKER_00He's got some little weird baits. He's like the he's the American uh Coyo.
SPEAKER_04Dude, for sure. I agree with that statement. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I saw him tinkering earlier on his story. It looked like he was in the shop getting a little meticulous with things, but I could definitely see that that side of him.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah. Uh well, dude, again, thanks for taking time out. This has been awesome. But uh anything coming up on the on the horizon for you that the folks need to know about?
SPEAKER_00Oh, chill until St. Clair got iCast and then um I'm launching a jig company, but we won't have anything until probably September. Kind of not the best time to launch a jig company, but uh she goes.
SPEAKER_01They eat big jigs.
SPEAKER_00They do. I mean, stuff sells a lot better in the spring, but that's kind of for next spring's kind of when we're hoping to have everything lined up. But uh, as soon as stuff comes through, done, finished, uh it'll be up for sale. But uh, like I said, uh probably sometime this fall.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00But it's been fun. I got to work with a lot of like I mean, I think I'm on I don't know, 10th sample of a swim jig right now, just really really tweaking it. I like my just like I get real critical on landing percentage and stuff like that. So like if it's like 99%, I don't it's not good enough. So back to the drawing board.
SPEAKER_03So it's all stuff that kind of it's your brains, your design, and uh I not not solely me.
SPEAKER_00No, I I'm working on uh a couple flipping jigs and a swim jig, and then um there there's probably there's four or five of us involved, and everybody's kind of doing their specialty. Um Douglas is in there, he's doing uh like a Ned Rig and a swim bait head, and then you probably know Alec Morrison. Yeah, he's from up in New Woods. He's uh you know, he's doing like a scoping, our scoping heads and stuff like that, and then uh Garrett Rockamora, uh big Florida dude, he's gonna do like the soup, you know, super heavy-duty stuff like swim jig, flipping jig, just you know, like with a shark hook in it, so that you throw it on 80-pound braid and an eight-foot pool cue and can't bend anything because that's how they roll down there, you know. So it everyone's gonna kind of do their little neat niche stuff and um just get it up to what they think is perfect and we're rolling with it. I love it.
SPEAKER_03Is it gonna be like tungsten stuff if we're allowed to do it?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it'll be a lot of high-end stuff. I mean, some stuff will be in lead. I mean, like my swim jig will be in lead. I don't really see a you know, if it's not a bottom contact bait or something that you know, it'd be different, like if you're talking, you know, really big stuff, um, doing it in tungsten. Um, but some stuff will be lead, some will be tungsten, kind of if it if it makes sense to do it in tungsten it will, but it'll all be like super high-end hooks and stuff. Um yeah, yeah, it'll be cool.
SPEAKER_03Looking forward to that, dude. Uh we've been talking with with Alec and Garrett getting them on a show here soon, and uh looking forward to uh when that launches, man. Can't wait to talk about it. Oh yeah, all right, folks, and that is gonna do it for today's show. Really happy we got Seth here, and uh hopefully not the last one or last time, excuse me, that we get Seth here on the show because as always, he shoots it straight, no BS, and uh that was a lot of a lot of cool nuggets to come out of this one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely. I mean, all I want to do is go fish a swim jig now. It's probably one of my favorite ways to catch him. I think I can speak on behalf of all of us, it's just one of the funnest ways to catch a bass. And yeah, I can't wait to go live.
SPEAKER_03Oh no, 28 pounds of smallmouth. My shoulder hurts.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it you know, change is good. All right, change is good. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04No, uh, it was it was really cool to hear the breakdown, man. I mean, we watched I watched a decent amount of his um Lake Fork event and watched him with the swim jig just being an absolute menace destroying big bass. And it was it was fun to watch Seth in his zone. It's cool to hear. I mean, the biggest takeaways for me were like the uh idea of just really moving during the shad spawn, they're not gonna be there the same same day, the same spot. You know, the shad are still there, but the bass maybe aren't there. Like I've screwed up on that so many times, thinking back to old derbs, uh, being like, man, I found them and they completely are gone. It's like I should have just kept going up or down that bank another couple hundred yards. Um, so I thought that was a huge takeaway, and then just his mindset and adjustments. It was it was cool to listen to.
SPEAKER_03It reflecting on that a little bit when I had that tag tournament down in U Fallow. That was the time I really first experienced a full-fledged shad spawn in this whole creek at Chad, Chad, Chad, Chad, Chad, Chad, Chad, until the area that I ended up catching him in, there was little to no chad. And that's where the it was super interesting how that was. And I think it was a good point in him. It was like a lot of folks, if especially if you don't experience it much, you see all that shad busting everywhere, you're probably gonna hunker down and be like, oh, there's gotta be bats here. But it's kind of a good lesson to just keep moving. The bats are gonna let you know when they're there. Cool deal for sure. Yep. But uh great show. Hopefully, uh you guys appreciated that. And we'll have to get Seth on uh when he starts launching that jig company. Sounds like coming up in September. Yeah. That's gonna be pretty snazzy. I'm sure we'll be getting our hands on some of them puppies, and we'll be having you know, Alec Morrison, Jay Dougie, you know, Garrett Rakamura. Sounds like we are having them lined up on the show here in the coming weeks. So looking forward to having them boys on, and uh, I'm sure that'll be one of the topics of discussion. But uh boys, uh great show. Uh it's good to get the three of us together. I know schedules are freaking nuts. Uh, but uh great show. Hopefully the folks appreciate it. If you guys are watching on YouTube, please like, subscribe if you're not already. And then if you're listening, please leave us a rating review if you haven't yet. But uh fellas, anything else for the folks?
SPEAKER_04No, didn't rip it, baby. It's uh it's fishing season. That's right, fishing season.
SPEAKER_03Get back to the bush. Appreciate y'all, and we'll see y'all on the next one.
