I don't think that the elites have ever gone to Big B before, right?

Uh Matt Boys in here. Well, yeah, we'll kick it off. Uh, how's your guys' classic? Cletus, we'll start with you, man, because you got to see most of the behind-the-scenes stuff.

Dude, like um, it was the beginning of the week before the classic started, and I was on the phone with my buddy Josh Platy's from Clutch Swim Bait, and he was like, I was he was asking me, like, what do you get to what are you doing? And I was like, Oh, well, I'm filming this river river cleanup on Tuesday. I'm got the angler dinner Tuesday night or whatever. I don't get to go to Night of Champions, but uh, and then it was like I gotta go here and do this and this and this. And he's like, dude, you have the best seat in the house. And I was like, What? Like, I'm thinking about like, no, it's hard. I gotta go do this and this and this, but I really do get to see every side of the classic. I get to see the booth set up, I get to see the back backside, I get to see the anglers before like dinner and media day. You get to see like the behind the scenes. I I get to go backstage, I get to go to the media center, I get to see the guys right after they win and see Dylan Nutt like and all these guys fresh off the stage from winning the Bassmaster Classic. Like the I do love my job and being able to be there for those moments because they are so super special. Like that kid's life just changed because he won the Bassmaster Classic, just like being there with Easton last year. Like, it's a life-changing experience to be there for that. And the this one was definitely probably my busiest classic. Uh uh, I think I had over 95 working hours at this classic between Tuesday and Sunday. Um so it was just a lot, and I've I definitely got the classic crud. I was running on absolute empty uh Saturday night, and uh, but we ended up pulling through, made it through, and we've been sick for six sick ever since, but trying to trying to push through. But the classic was good. Um, it was it was a cool classic, a ton of people attended. The expos were absolutely blasting with people. I was glad I got to see that this year. Last year I was on the water for all of it. I didn't get to go on the water this year. Um, but just to be able to really see all of it. Um, it was a walking classic. That was one thing that we like everything was pretty walkable, which is cool, but it also wears you down more because I didn't realize like I was getting 30,000 to 40,000 steps in each day, and those were like legit because I mean I was walking 1.5 miles to the way in carrying a 60-pound camera bag, and then I'd walk back and then I'd walk over here and I'd walk to takeoff and I'd walk there. Like I didn't take a single Uber ride all week. Oh, like the first night, uh, it was like, well, the Uber's gonna be 28 minutes, so I just jogged to the bar to go meet Pang Rack at the bar, and it was like a mile and a half, and I was like, Nice, hey, I got there faster than I would have if I waited 28 minutes on the Uber. So classic was fun. You're just grassy now, not quite not in the slightest, not with this pollen in the air, man. Not sucking down yellow snow, basically. Ultra marathoner, not yet, just the regular marathoner. We'll get to the ultras one of these days.

Well, you were running on top of that too, weren't you?

Yeah, I went and went for a five-mile run with Justin Lucas after that. That was a horrible mistake. Uh uh love Justin, it was great. But we stay we stayed out until one in the morning, Friday night, and I don't drink anymore. And so like I was just sober, thank God for that. So I wake up, like I get back to my hotel at like 1:30, wake up at 5 to run with Justin Atkins at uh Atkins, sorry, Justin Lucas. I'm sorry, I just mixed this guy up. Atkins runs before he finishes the class. Yeah, and uh it's five 5 15. He's like, All right, we still meet at 5 30. And I was like, dude, I was like, I'm running on four hours. He's like, just get go back to sleep, bro, you're fine. And then I was like, I'll let you know in five minutes, and then it's like five minutes goes by, and I'm like, All right, I'll be at your hotel at 15. And he's like, Oh my god. So I've still pulled through and made it. That's that's how out of it I still am. I'm mixing mixing up Atkins and Lucas, but it was Justin Lucas, and so we ran five miles that morning and then got the day started. So then I gave a presentation that Brett Bailey decided to skip out on giving his presentation. I had to go hang out with Rudd and Pangorac and Bailey was like, No, I'm too cool for this. I'm I'm out last minute. Hey, gotta pay the bills. I was bummed to miss that though.

No, you're good. I like hearing the ins and outs of it, especially different perspectives of it, because uh Knoxville's always fun. Um, that's the second classic in Knoxville I've been to, and every single time we've been there, just in Knoxville in general, Knoxville in general is just a fun city uh to visit. Um, but classic in Knoxville's always on a different level. Uh, especially this year, it seemed like it was it was the highest frequent classic I think I've been at. Like you couldn't move in there, especially on Saturday. But um was definitely a freaking awesome one. Got to bring the wife there too. People a bunch of people got to uh see see my wife and ask her all the questions of when we're moving south and all that stuff. She got peppered with that while she was at the expo. So a lot of people came up to her and they're like, Hey, you're the naming. Uh we'll we'll save that for a later date. Uh but she got peppered with uh hey, you're the naming baits lady. And uh that that was who she got referred to as when they saw her. So that was that was good. But that's good. Justin, what about you, man? Did you make it to the expo after the derb?

I did. I got there for a few hours on uh on Friday, and it was cool. Um it I actually got finally got to meet Andy in person, uh Louie. So it was it was cool. Picked up a few baits I didn't need, spent a little money, uh, but it was it was fun, and and just seeing some of the people that I know. I don't know a ton of people in the industry, but some of the the the familiar faces was kind of fun, and there was some neat new stuff. Um I don't I don't know that I want to get into Hobie's uh Hobie's situation too deep, but they had a a booth which I was kind of surprised to see, and they had a new version of the iTrack that you know talking to a rep, I was actually kind of interested in uh in the specs, and he he told me, and I don't I don't know if it's true, but he he claims that he hooked up like I don't remember if it was a torqued or a newport, but a 300-sized motor. And I can't remember if he said 10 or 9, it was some stupid speed he got the kayak to go. Um yeah, so I thought that was interesting, but yeah, uh classic, kind of like you guys said. Uh, I like I've been to a couple in Knoxville now, and uh it's a fun venue.

Absolutely. Yeah, Matt Boyd's asked about new baits that popped out to us, and I think the biggest one obviously is the classic winning bait, that new Berkeley Lab series that they were trying to keep hush hush that's now released. But uh, I'll shout out our boy. I did buy one thing at the classic, and I bought some glide baits and the new York glide that Louis dropped out, the Georgia Peaches. So I did pick up some glide baits while we were there. Is that the seven, Bailey? Uh I think so. I think it's a seven. He also talked me into getting one of their uh wake baits, too. I I couldn't I couldn't resist a little pink lemonade wake.

Third Greenville, then Dallas Fort Worth, and then Knoxville. It was it was a good time, it was absolutely swamped with people, so almost impossible to walk around. It was it was a classic, it was exciting. It was cool to see everyone and see more people that you normally don't get to see, and all the fans of the show, and etc. It was cool and getting to meet Justin. I think I saw Clint for like six seconds one day.

Bailey, did you see the kayak? Um I'm blanket on the name. I think it's I think it's made like it's a new a new brand, and I want to say it's Chinese, maybe, but they had a pedal drive. Is that what a Vasa? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Where the thing it turns kind of like a the same same idea as a 360, like you turn your your dial, your steering knob, and instead of turning a rudder, you actually are turning your shaft, and like you can it it that looks cool. I was I was kind of in interested in that asking a bunch of questions.

There was another one, the flux jet that um I didn't actually get to the booth. I got the chance to see that at the classic, I think. Heard a little bit about it. It's interesting if if they get it in production, uh, I'd be be curious to to see how guys like that one.

But yeah, we'll have to schedule a show and hike fishing weekly because there's like three new brands that are out right now that are doing a good job. So we'll uh we'll have to schedule something up for that. Get you on there and get some of the takes to people that saw it. But um the classic itself, the the the the derb of what we got to uh watch and see, and obviously Dylan Nutt absolutely manhandling everybody uh in that classic and um mentioned it and it'll go out on Wednesday's podcast with Jamie Bruce. We talked a little bit about that, but we did a full shout out to Mercer's pod with Dylan Nutt and got to talk you know here and him and the whole scoop. Uh if you guys have not listened to that, encourage you to. But uh any takeaways from uh the classic in regards to weights, reactions, things like that. The fishing, obviously, the 15-inch limit definitely helped people get five fish for the most part, but um definitely a lot bigger weights than I was anticipating. That's for dang sure. Huge, absolutely huge.

Oh, those Alabama spots are doing uh a number on that lake by all the mean mouth, right? That are popping up. So it'd be sad to see what happens to it in four to five years.

Yeah, well, uh the uh yeah, the comment sections on a lot of the posts were quite uh entertaining watching people when the the pros would say, Oh, I caught a smallmouth, and people like that's a mean mouth, and just uh they're not wrong. Uh but yeah, it's um there's not gonna be smallmouth in there, I don't think, anymore. Um, but regardless, uh they were catching some pretty dang big ones. Some big largemouth caught too, obviously shallow and scoping. Um, but yeah, I I didn't anticipate as big a weights as they were going to catch, but I should have known better knowing who was going into that and how good these guys are obviously in the classic.

I was just impressed that it wasn't a koike classic. Like, I mean, nut cut a couple on it, but like it wasn't like a dominated koiky classic. That's kind of what I expected.

Like I after talking to him Saturday night, I was like, bro, he's gonna smash them on a Carolina rig. I've watched him smash them on a Carolina rig, like not just this tournament, and I saw that he had it tied on, and I was like, I was like, Dog, you gonna throw a C rig? He's like, dude, the wind's gonna blow. I was like, he loves it, but he's like he's a closet sea rigger just like the rest of us. He doesn't talk about it. So funny.

Yeah you might have to push his buttons and get him to talk about it on a on a pod. Oh, yeah. Uh but yeah, I saw that and dude, the the one that clip that they shared where he just like you thought he would hung up, he locked up on that fish so tight. Like it's his rod wasn't moving. Um, yeah, that was pretty sick. Uh any other takeaways from classic, boys, before we start getting into uh how we performed at the classic fishing lesson?

I was a little surprised the shallow bite didn't fire at all. I was kind of hoping that some guys would get that going, especially as warm as we had it like for our championship earlier in the week. Um that I think that cold front, those that cold rain really uh did a number on them. So I did was there anybody, did I miss it? Was there anybody that that that even made it to day three that that was doing the the shallow kind of deal?

I think Atkins and Jordan Lee. Okay. I just saw Michael Bradley's comment about that fish. So bass pro it's in the bass pro in Severeville. Uh it's a set the 7-2 mean mouth. They took it and put it in the tank there. Pretty crazy.

Yeah, I heard there was people vying to uh get in line to try to be the one to put it out or throw it on the bank, if you will. But sounds like uh that'll be a cool deal to go. I mean, it'd be cool for eBay to go to that bass pro and look at it, be like, yeah, that was that was my fish. I mean, to be able to contribute to a bass pro tank is pretty sick. Oh, yeah.

Right. I'm curious though, I never even thought about this. How do those bass pro fish spawn? Do they do they spawn in the tank?

I've watched them spawn in the tank before, and I was at the the the bass pro bass pro at the world fishing fair in Missouri, Springfield, Missouri. And I I have a video and they're just and it's like a it's like an eight-pounder and a three-pounder, just mashing.

Well, to uh to tally it up, how uh our group performed fantasy fishing wise at the classic. Um boomer is off to uh to 2025 things, and uh he's got a second goose egg in a row. So I think Boomer's just done. I think he called it quits. Um after he came in hot and said he was gonna he was not gonna go in here. No, no, he's uh he's toast. Uh and then behind him, somebody who actually had a lineup that had the lowest score was actually Deacon, even though he's still leading our fantasy fishing group right now. He had 1,069 points. Uh Andy in front of him with 1179. Uh we had Brennan with 1206, Cletus with 1219. I had 1228, and Justin won the week with 1344. Nice job, Justin.

Like I was I was down at like the 20 or 30 percent on on pass track. I'm still at like 69 right now.

Uh we got mid-70s tomorrow, and it looks like 80s for the most part with a slight cold front going into Saturday and Sunday, but nothing obviously too crazy because the night temps are still warm enough. But uh 80s all week, 70s. It sounds like it's just gonna be a shallow water. 10 degrees I feel like this is gonna look very sabine like the lows.

Um my my only prediction for this is this is gonna look very Sabine-like, and I envisioned very similar standings for people that do well in the Sabine. I imagine doing well in something like this. Yeah. Just looking back at like especially that open, like, was it Steven Browning almost won it and knowing how he fished it? And well, granted, that was a different time of year, but I just envisioned the same similar style of guys, you know, are gonna do fairly well in this. I would I would predict anyway.

Yeah, I had a hard time with drain the lake between this week and is it next week or whatever the Arkansas River coming up. I I was having a hard time picking which guy for which which venue because I could see them both fishing kind of tough.

And uh, you're flirting with fire there trying to uh dodge stumps in that place before you finish the classic. But uh any other predictions, things like that before we start getting into picks for uh Big B Cletus, anything you heard around the uh the grapevine? Nice, nothing crazy.

Thanks. And so I'm trying to figure out. I haven't done a podcast from here yet, and uh sitting backwards on the bed, wasn't it? My back hurts. Um all I've heard through the grapevine is they're doing this, and it's kind of tough. Like it's like hard to get a bite because they're like one way or the other type of deal, and that the weather's gonna change things a lot, the wind's gonna make it hard. That's kind of all I've really heard from these guys so far.

So I went Bill Lowen thinking uh Ohio River tough fishing, and I feel like he's he does well in those grinder type events. Uh I initially wanted to save him for Arkansas River, but he's on the lineup. Uh, he's my my bucket e guy this week. It's a solid pick.
