Alrighty. We are live, boys. We are live. Back with another serious angler Bassmaster Fantasy Fishing Show. We are staying in the same state of South Carolina. We got half the crew here anyway. We got, as his name says, B Dog. We got the dope, Mr. Brennan Chapman. We got Mr. Justin Largen joining us here, of course. We will have the Sheiken joining us here in a few moments. He's running behind. I think he had Pilates or something like that. He uh the go-to before he got here. So we'll give him some or as him a little bit when he gets here. But um appreciate people that are gonna be starting trickling in here in the comments. But uh we were talking a little bit offline, boys. Uh Lake Murray, every day looked the same in regards to the people on top of what they were doing, how they were catching him. But I have to say it I had some serious FOMO because that looked like a lot of freaking fun.

Yeah, when those fish committed, it looked like it was fun. Yeah, it seemed like some guys are pulling their hair out a lot of the time, though. Um so I I guess you get those moments where it's really, really fun, and then and then a lot of stress in between those fun moments.

Yeah, I don't know about you guys, but I really wished that Bassmaster did a little bit of a better job of overlaying the live view onto the screen, just so people could see even better. Of just like when people talk about it's not easy using live, it's not a guarantee. Like that was the epitome of it's not guaranteed when you throw out a fish, it's gonna eat. Like there's school, like Rob G in the last day, there's schools like 30 fish fouling his bait all over it, and not a single one would eat. It's just like it goes to show it still takes a hell of a lot of skill, even with the technology to catch these dang fish.

Yeah, like I'll see bed fish sometimes, and I've been guilty so many times of doing the same thing. Like, just I get mad at that one fish, and it's like I'm gonna catch you. I don't care how long it takes, I'm gonna sit here and catch you. Yeah, and then you know, 100 yards down the bank, there's 10 more that can be caught, and I still catch myself sometimes mad at one, just like I'm gonna get this one. And if I had live scope, I would just sit in the same place and chase the same fish around. And so I I'd yeah, it wouldn't be good.

I agree though, Bailey. I think that would have been cool to get more of that overlay just to give a little bit more perspective to those that maybe uh aren't inclined to know that it's not always just a highlight reel of catching fish, and uh they are fish and they don't always bite. A lot of times they don't, right?

Oh it's funny you say that too, Justin. I had there was a guy that commented, I posted the video the other day of my buddy Reese when I was in the boat with him and he caught a 14-pounder, and we made probably 30 casts on this fish, and he's like, There comes a point with forward facing where this is just harassment to the fish. And I'm like, Have you not remembered for the past 30 years that we fish for fish on beds? Like, this is the same thing, this is no different than that, and yeah, yeah, that just brought that back to mind where it's just like watching these guys though, like you could tell there was a difference, like everyone was around fish. There's certainly no shortage of fish in that lake. Well, you could tell the guys like G and Paul Marks, like they'd pull up, they knew it's it's a one fish out of this school and move. They'd pick up and go, no wasted time. I think it was a a time management and a game of efficiency, is uh how the guys that won it, you know, they were able to be you know get more opportunities at biting fish anyway.

Yeah. I think there was one, I think it was Paul Marks the last day, maybe it was the third day of the last day where he pulled up on a spot, makes that one catch, like you were saying, has all these fish follow, but nothing commits. And he literally put the rod down, fired up the motor, and ran to the next spot. Um, I I don't it I mean it was it's clearly the right thing to do, but I I would have a hard time doing that after seeing that many fish come after the bait that first go.

Yeah, it was uh Lake Murray, I think, is one of the the few lakes where it's the the opposite of when you hear the saying you don't leave fish to find fish, where it's like, no, you need to leave those fish, you need to go find more fish because it's like Lake Lanier is a great example, too. You'll pull up to a brush pile, there it looks like there's 40 of them. You're like, Oh, we're about to crush them. You might catch maybe if you're lucky, two of them. Maybe they get smart real quick, but it definitely looks like a three-horse race when it came to baits anyway. You had the koiky play that looked like shallow on docks, you know. Sam Hangi was catching some big ones that way. Um, but it was uh the fluke, the chartreuse fluke was I think everybody in the whole field was throwing that thing. And then um a little sneaky deal that was brought to my attention. That I because I could I could make out the guys were throwing something different on live, but I couldn't I couldn't tell if it was a jig head minnow or what it was. Uh, but it was a a bastrix. Um, the uh the flash tricks thing they call it. An interesting little minnow style bait that they're throwing, but it's not on a jig head.

Is that that hollow body? Yeah, is it a hollow body and it's got like foil on the inside or like mylar or something?

Correct, yeah. And I I I want to say how they're rigging it was like that hover hook, and then either adding a little bit of weight to it somehow or like putting like lead wire on the shank of the hook, but really, really sneaky, and uh that was cool to see uh a little bit of different stuff play there. But um, either way, it was that was a fun freaking tournament to watch, especially first thing in the morning. Like if you just wanted all the action you wanted, just watch from the start of live at 8 a.m. till like 10 a.m. You got all the action you needed for the day because it was hot and heavy in the low late hours, that's for sure.

Had you guys seen the the slow reeling of fluke before? Because I always thought you had to move that thing quick to try to trigger strikes. And that was the I think this was the first time I'd actually seen guys just sort of reel it in nice and slow, and the guys that were catching them, that seemed to be what they were doing, at least one of the things.

I yeah, I kept watching the retrieve and it was just whining. I'm like, what are they doing? I got I've never just straight wound a fluke in low and slow, but I'm gonna have to try it now.

Yeah, I mean, so Warren Beard says here some of the drone shots were great, and that brings back to the attention of uh Drew Benton made top ten after we didn't think bed fishing was gonna play at all, and he caught him off beds, but leave it to the likely the greatest bed fisherman in the world right now to find fish on bed in May down there. That's crazy.

Any other takeaways from Murray, the days you guys were able to watch?

Oh, that hangy catch at the last minute on uh on day three, that was pretty cool. That was uh that's gonna be one of the highlights of the year, I think. Seven pounder on your last cast. That that was fun. That's one old yeah.

Yeah, especially a lot of people saying if they go earlier in the year, the bags will just be gigantic.

Yeah, fun to watch for the fan, and it certainly looked like the anglers love going there. Uh, understandably, a lot of fish catching, that's for dang sure. Um, but they're saying, yeah, if they go in like March time frame, it's you know, there's no reason why it couldn't be sentry belts for the at least top five. You know, it's enough weight there. You got enough six-pounders in there post-pawn that you know, they can definitely churn out some 30-pound bags. So that's for sure. Yeah, I want to see what the kayak crowd does in October. We'll see, dude. I once they announced that, I'm like, I looked at my wife and I'm like, I have to do well at Santee. Uh, I have to get another top 50 because I need to go fish Murray right now. Um, and that that event only teased it more, but yeah, in October, I'm sure it's pretty good.

Uh I want to say it was early. I want to say it was February, dude. Oh, was it real early? Yeah. Okay. Real early. Um, but yeah, it's that's a fun freaking lake. And they they can shut off real fast, but they can turn on just as fast. Where had a school on that that tournament where they wouldn't eat it all day one. I came back day two in the afternoon to check it again. And in five casts, I caught a seven-four, a six and a half, and a five and a half. And it was like, okay, I love this lake.

We should have Deacon here joining in a minute. Um, uh Warren Beer says Super Bowl bass fishing would be get uh, I think he means like I don't know, either way. Uh they mentioned some some dabbling of potential classic locations on Murray, which that'd be pretty sick too. And you could do it right there in Columbia, so that would be pretty sick. Uh yeah, make it happen. Mm-hmm. I'm sure it will. Um it was a great comment. Ryan C716 says Cody Huff asked Kyle Patrick on his live what it would take for a couple bash tricks, and Kyle responded, basically for people listening, uh, sexual favors. Um is what I'll leave it at. But uh if that doesn't tell I wonder if he got his bastricks. Yeah, what I'll send him a text here on live and be like, so did you get in the action, bro? Get your baits. Did you get your baits? Oh, that's cute. All right, uh, rankings right now for fantasy fishing of the crew. Uh Boomer with his fifth goose egg in a row, and Deacon with his second goose egg of the season. So Deacon screwed up again. I think it was like Thursday at like 10 a.m. I get a text from Deacon saying crap. He forgot to make his lineup again. Um the lowest record costly in this line. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah. A lot of bragging rights at stake here. Speaking of the devil, he's hopping in just on time. Um, we were just talking about you, Deke.

Deke, before we go through the rest of the lineup, any other takeaways uh from Murray? We kind of went over you know the obvious bait selection. It was like a three-horse race, and then uh seemed to be the same shtick though for the the guys that did well for four days, besides Benton.

Yeah, I'm just dumb impressed at Benton's bed fishing, man. Um, if there is a fish on a bed, he's gonna be chasing that bite. And I I like it because I try and do the same thing, even if it's late, like it's my favorite thing to do. So I like I'm just so impressed that uh he finds a way to top 10 off of bed fish, even when it's not the primary thing, like almost all the time.

Yeah, that's what we were we were saying. Is like I think when we did the live, we're like, we don't think bed fishing is gonna play it all now. And Drew Benton's just says, Hold my beer, and here he is, top 10 bed fishing and and uh or beginning of May in uh South Carolina, which is kind of crazy.

Man, yeah, there's just I think something, especially on fisheries that have a ton of fish in them. Like I've noticed this on Clear Lake, for instance. Like they just there's so many waves of spawners, like they start in March and they end in like mid-June. It's crazy. That is nuts.

Well, going back through the standings quick, we went through uh Boomer and Deacon's Goose Egg and fifth. We got Mr. Brennan Chapman, we got the dope. Um we got Cletus in fourth, Justin in third, myself in second, and to show you guys how tight it is. Um Brennan being in fifth, myself being in second, he's only 120 points off. So it's uh the tight race, and then only what is that 29 points ahead of me is Andy in first. So he got a tight race to the end, at least for the top five, anyway. I don't know if you can come back from from that one, Deacon. I don't know about a second goose egg. Dude, uh you gotta believe in yourself, man.

Lucky during the lake. We got of course the two goose eggs with Boomer and Deacon, and in fifth, we have the dope himself, Brendan Chapman. Um right. Uh fourth, we got the captain. Third, we got Justin. 500 points ahead of him is Cletus with just under 11,000. And then myself in first with 11,297. So we're gonna we're making it a night a little tight tight race here at the end of the year because Cletus had a wild event. I thought I did good with almost 1900 points, and Cletus had 2200, which is I think the geez, disgusting. The second biggest of the whole year outside of the classic. And no, it's the biggest of the whole year outside the classic, because classic everyone had 2,000 points. But crazy craziness.

Yes, I I think final day, they had Palmer on live, and he was talking about the uh the lakes being different and the there being a lot more grass, clear water, like it's gonna fish a little different than uh than he got his win. So I thought that was interesting. Um, and I I adjusted my picks accordingly, try to mix in some grass guys. I like it. Interesting.

Well, real quick, weather-wise, they have pretty stable weather. It looks like throughout the weekend, as long as nothing changes, but we know how that works. Um Thursday, Thursday basically through Sunday, they have increasing temps every day, sunny. The only day that shows any sort of clouds is on Sunday. Um, pretty stable wind throughout the week, low winds besides you know, the first two days are north, the second two days are south, but low enough winds. Thursday looks like the worst day at max 10 miles an hour. Um, so I think these boys are gonna be able to get around pretty well, I don't think, throughout the weekend. Heck yeah.

I mean, I say that and I feel like I pick all the friends of the the show now and then, and they never perform when I when I pick the the friends of the show, but um I'm hoping for I'm picking him out of manifestation. We'll give it that so that he can turn the season around a little bit.

So I'm gonna be trying to channel my inner Brian Schmidt uh while he's hopefully fishing the grass and smashing them down on Cynthia. I like it.

I'm just looking at it from when he's been good there, he's been 360 in and he knows his way around, especially from uh I mean he did well obviously with scope, but even without scope, like if there's a guy that can do well, side of a jing 360 off-road brush piles, but also go up and flip. I feel like BP is your guy, guy here to do a whole mix of things. You never really know what he's gonna do next, honestly. I think his only kryptonite, as we've seen so far, is herring fisheries. That's that's about it. All right, group B.
