Life can wear us down in ways we don’t always notice. It’s not always the big things. Sometimes, it’s the daily grind—the responsibilities and busyness—that end up draining our energy.

This week, I’ve been thinking about how we restore our weary souls and what Jesus said about it. He said:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

When Jesus talked about a yoke, He used the illustration of a wooden frame that joins two animals together so they can share the load as they work. Jesus invites us to take His yoke and be connected to Him.

The key difference with Jesus’ yoke is that when we walk alongside Him, He takes the heavier part of the burden. Jesus is stronger than any of us and carries the weight we can’t handle. He says, “Just walk beside me. I’ll carry it. Keep in step with me, look where I’m leading you, and learn from me how to do life well.”

First Peter 5:7 says:

“Cast all your worries and cares on Him, for He cares for you.”

That means letting go of stress and worry about your future, finances, relationships, kids, and work, trusting that He has it all in His hands.

If you’re feeling weary today, take a moment to consider: What have you been yoked to? What are you carrying around like a big weight or heavy suitcase, dragging it through life?

Jesus promised that His yoke is not burdensome—it doesn’t weigh us down. It’s light and easy. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, maybe you’re carrying something He never intended you to bear.

Jesus said we would face trials, but when we are yoked to Him, we can learn how to walk through storms and dark valleys with peace.

Think about when Jesus was in the boat with the disciples during a storm. While they panicked, He was asleep in the back of the boat. He wasn’t afraid of the storm, and neither should we be when we’re yoked to Him. (Luke 8:22-25)

Take a moment today to assess the weight and load you’ve been carrying. Are you trying to carry it all yourself? Have you yoked yourself to stress, fear, or pressure that isn’t from Jesus?

Jesus didn’t promise a life without challenges, but He did promise to walk through every storm and dark valley with us, ensuring we never face them alone. When we’re connected to Him, His peace becomes ours, even in the middle of the chaos.

Let His easy yoke bring rest for your soul today.

Have a great day, and remember: You’re never alone, and Jesus is walking with you.
