Welcome to the Position Podcast. I am your host, kimberly Knight, and today we are going to talk about how I made more money last year in my fiscal year than ever before. So grab a notebook and a pen, because you're going to need to take some notes for these two episodes because it is going to be a two-parter and decide that you're going to make the changes that are going to make a difference in your financial trajectory. So let's jump right in. But before we do that, please like and share the broadcast, because your friends need this too. The last thing you want to do is make lots of money and have broke friends. Oh, that's a whole other episode. Okay, all right.
Speaker 1:So let's look at some of the things that I did last year that helped me to make more money than ever before. First thing I know for sure I did and I can tell you it was a game changer was to invest at the level I expected to get results. I spent more on coaching last year than I ever did before and I'll be honest with you, had my financial situation not improved behind that information, it would have been a problem for me to meet the monthly fee for that. So it gave me not only the information I needed, the support and the accountability that I needed, but it also gave me the incentive and the motivation to keep on working and not stop. And there is something about that momentum when you get that momentum going, it starts to take on a life of its own and it becomes its own engine. And there is something about that momentum when you get that momentum going, it starts to take on a life of its own and it becomes its own engine and it pushes you forward. It propels you forward. I am telling you you need to invest in coaching. You need to invest in consulting, in books, in programs, in conferences. I did all of that last year. To be fair, I've always done that.
Speaker 1:I think lifelong learning is key. I'm a teacher, but you can't be a teacher if you're not going to be a learner. That's the way I feel. So I've always invested in learning, whether it was formal or informal. I have always done that. I've always been mentored. I have a mentor that I've had in my life for decades now.
Speaker 1:But I did something different this time. Again, I invested at the level I wanted to get results. So let me give you an example. There are some of us who will invest a hundred dollars in a program but expect our clients to pay us a thousand dollars. Well, you're asking people to do with you what you're not willing to do. So you need to believe in yourself enough and when you're ready, the teacher appears. I'm telling you that that's to do. So. You need to believe in yourself enough and when you're ready, the teacher appears. I'm telling you that that's the truth. Not only that, you will find the money or make a way. I'll be honest with you.
Speaker 1:When I decided to go into this coaching program, I needed to ask them can you give me some kind of payment plan? And they did. They didn't hesitate. What if I? Usually I've been like, intimidated to ask those kinds of things, but not this time. And I am telling you it paid for itself. I got a contract within probably two months that paid for the rest of my coaching program and gave me extra to work with. Now, when I say extra, I doubled the amount of my investment. Within two months. It was like six weeks later I had my first contract. That was double the amount I invested. I am telling you it works. And here's another thing While I'm saying that, this comes to mind when you shift your mindset about it being an expense to it being an investment, you'll see it multiply Investments, multiply Expenses.
Speaker 1:What do they do? They subtract. When you see it as an investment, it's going to be a seed. Seeds multiply after their own. Oh, that's good, oh, that's really good. Yeah, seeds multiply after they're grown. So seed as an investment and not an expense. Now, that said, it did become an expense, right, because it is a business expense that is deductible, but you should check with your own tax professional.
Speaker 1:Another thing I did and this might surprise you is I deleted the games from my phone. Now, it sounds like a really small thing, but it's not because they were wasting my time and keeping me distracted. Again, sounds like a little thing, but it wasn't. So the time that I would spend on my games, rather, I spent them in my business, whether it was doing some things on the back end or I spent time just getting information and doing research or connecting with other people and networking. I use that time more wisely.
Speaker 1:So when we say we don't have time, right, let's examine how we're using what we have, because everybody in the world has 168 hours a week, 168 hours a week, so we get to decide how we want to spend that time. And if you calculate how much you make per hour and you spend three hours a night on television, let's say, for just to make it simple, you make a hundred hours and you decide to watch TV for three hours a night, which is kind of average, and I won't even add in the social media for the day, right, let's just talk about that television time of three hours. That's $300 worth of your time. And then we say we don't have time and we don't have money. It's not that we do have the time and we did waste that money, right, that money-making opportunity time, it was wasted. But we get to decide how we're going to what. Invest our time not spend it, but invest it. And if we make the most of our time, we're more likely to see better returns.
Speaker 1:Now here's another thing. Here's another thing. I hired help. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Speaker 1:Again, learning that sometimes fighting so hard to save money was actually costing me money was a whole different mindset. Now, listen, when I started investing in that coaching, I did not have, I didn't have it right, like it wasn't, like I could just write a check and pay the lump sum it was. It had a comma. It had a comma and zeros. Okay, it was big and I couldn't take it out of our savings because we had some other things going on and we did want to touch it and I said, okay, what am I going to do? How can I free up my time? How can I be more focused? So I got rid of the games. I cut way back. I really don't watch as much a lot of television or do a lot of social media, but I cut back on that like a lot.
Speaker 1:And then I hired help, and when I say I hired help, I got a virtual assistant and she's fabulous. I got someone to help around my house, because guess what Dishes need to be washed, but they don't need to be washed by your girl. Hello, oh, I know that felt good, right. I got a new tax preparer. I have a new tax preparer who also talks to me about strategy, and that was good, right. So I was already spending the money for the tax preparer. But this one had next level skills. And I'm going to tell you another secret If you are going to go to the next level financially, you're going to need next level financial advisement and tax preparation and strategy. Oh, yes, sir, yes ma'am, if your tax preparer has only worked with businesses that do business by the thousands and you want to do the business by the hundred, thousands or the millions, then you have to begin to think and plan for that, and we're going to do a whole other episode on strategizing, because that is big.
