Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Position Podcast. I am your host, kimberly Knight, and today we are going to continue our discussion on why God may not have answered your prayers. And I will tell you I was done with that episode. I felt like you know it was finished and it was a little brief. It was finished. If you haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, go back. Listen to that episode. I'll leave the link in the show notes and then come back here for a deeper dive. I'll tell you about what happened.

Speaker 1:

As far as I was concerned, I was done with that topic and I had some other things I wanted to share with you today. But I ran into a friend and she said oh, I was just about to call you. I just finished listening to your episode on why God doesn't answer prayers and I said I think there's more. Okay, girl, I trust your judgment. I'm going to go back and pray and see if there's more, and guess what? There's more. So I'm going to share that with you today. Again, if you haven't listened to the first episode, go back and listen to it and then come back for this deeper dive. Y'all know how I do things. I like to jump in right from the start into the deep end of the pool, and that's where we're going to go today, and this is for our brethren. So, brethren, listen up.

Speaker 1:

The first reason I want to share with you today about why God may not be answering your prayers is because you're cruel to your wife. My, my, my. So let me just read the scripture to you. It is 1 Peter 3, 7 in the Amplified. In the same way, you husbands live with your wives in an understanding way, with great gentleness and tact and with an intelligent regard for the marriage relationship as with someone physically weaker, since she is a woman. Relationship as with someone physically weaker, since she is a woman. Show her honor and respect as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered or ineffective. So, brethren, if your prayers feel hindered or ineffective, go back and check your marital relationship. There's so many things I want to say about this one, but I'm going to just say this Check yourself so you don't wreck yourself, brethren, amen, all right.

Speaker 1:

Another reason why God may not be answering your prayers is because he told you don't pray. I've only had this happen to me once in my lifetime and I have to tell you. It's a very sobering thing. It is extremely sobering. But let me share something with you from the scriptures from Jeremiah 7, 16 in the New Living Translation Pray no more for these people, jeremiah.

Speaker 1:

Do not weep or pray for them, and don't beg me to help them, for I will not listen to you If God ever tells you don't pray. Well, I can't help you. If God says no, well, baby, you're on your own. You don't see that commonly in the scripture, right? So you had to go pretty far for him to say don't pray for these people. Don't cry about these people. Don't send up a whale. I don't want to hear. Don't travail for them, I am done. And if you decide to do it anyway, I'm not listening. Who made God that mad? Not much I can do for you about that.

Speaker 1:

Here's another reason why God may not be answering our prayers. God will not answer our prayers when we have the wrong motives. In James 4, 2 through 3 in the New Living Translation it says you want what you don't have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can't get it, so you fight and wage war to take it from them. Yet you don't have what you want because you don't ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don't get it because your motives are all wrong. You want only what will give you pleasure. Oh, this is some pretty strong stuff, y'all. This is why I guess he sent me back to get these additional points. When we pray with the wrong motive, he says you want something, but I'm not giving it to you because you're asking me for things that you should not be asking me. And then, when I don't give it to you, you want to take it from someone who has it. Wow, sometimes we focus so much on our words. We don't focus on our attitude or our motive for asking. So not only does he require of us the words that give him honor and that make the request known, but he also requires that our heart be in the right place and him honor and that make the request known, but he also requires that our heart be in the right place. And when our heart is in the right not in the right place but our words are he's still not obligated to answer. Can't make this stuff up, folks. All right, I told y'all to buckle up. It was going to be one of those episodes. So here's the next one.

Speaker 1:

The anthem went out to your prayer, but spiritual warfare stopped it. Oh my gosh, how many of y'all remember the story of Daniel? Let me read this to you Daniel 10, 12 through 13. Then he said this is the angel. This is an angel that was dispatched to talk to Daniel, an angel of God. Then he said don't be afraid, daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer, but for 21 days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the archangels, came to help me and I left him there with the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia. So there's so much here to unpack, right?

Speaker 1:

So, first of all, daniel was deep in prayer because by this time, angels were coming to talk directly to him. This is deep and he said we heard you the first day that you prayed and you humbled yourself. Now listen, this is hot off the press, because I didn't have this in my notes. Are we praying and humbling ourselves? Sometimes we put a demand on God rather than humbling ourselves and making our requests known. That was hot off the press. I don't have that in my notes, so let us be aware of how we approach the throne Now.

Speaker 1:

He said I came to answer your prayer but there was a principality that only an archangel could handle I had to call for backup. If an angel had to call for backup, you know we need to be on our knees. You know we need to be on our knees, on our face and real humble, keeping a cue, keep a cue. He had to call for an archangel, not just other angels. He had to call for an archangel to come so he could get this answer to daniel. Now something else just came in my spirit, hot off the press again.

Speaker 1:

Father sent an angelic army to battle to make sure that Daniel got his response. Think about that for a moment. God wanted him to have that answer so badly that he sent angels. He dispatched angels to do warfare to get that word to him so that Daniel would have the answer that he was asking God for. My, my, my. Let's move on to our next point. The answer came, but it was better than you expected and you either didn't know how to deal with it you didn't think it was real or you didn't process it properly. So this story, I absolutely love this passage and this story because I think that sometimes we think the answers to our prayers are too good to be true, like Rhoda did. I'm going to read a passage to you from Acts 12 9 through 15 in the New Living Translation, because sometimes we're Rhoda.

Speaker 1:

So Peter left the cell following the angel, but all the time he thought it was a vision. He didn't realize it was actually happening. They passed the first and the second guard post and came to the iron gate leading to the city, and this opened for them all by itself. So they passed through and started walking down the street, and then the angel suddenly left him. Peter finally came to his senses. It's really true. He said the Lord has sent his angel and saved me from Herod and from what the Jewish leaders had planned to do to me.

Speaker 1:

When he realized this, he went to the home of Mary, the mother of John Mark, where many were gathered for prayer. He knocked at the door in the gate, and a servant girl named Rhoda came to open it. When she recognized Peter's voice, she was so overjoyed that, instead of opening the door, she ran back inside and told everyone Peter is standing at the door. You're out of your mind. They said hey, when she insisted, they decided it must be his angel. So you're upset when I don't answer the prayer. And then when I give you a miraculous deliverance and answer to your request, you still don't believe it. Oh my gosh, we're a mess, right, just a hot mess. She said oh, our prayers have been answered. Peter's at the door. She leaves him outside. You can't make this stuff up. And then they're like oh, it must be his angel, let me in this daggone house. I'm standing out here in the street waiting for a road to open. Let me in.

Speaker 1:

So sometimes the answer to our prayer seems to be too good to be true. When that happens, receive it, rejoice and share the testimony of what God has done, because sometimes our answers are so miraculous, they are so wonderful that they can be hard to believe. But you better receive it, believe it and share about it. Let's go on to. This is the last one.

Speaker 1:

The last reason that God may not have answered your prayer that I want to share with you today is that God had a better idea. According to Isaiah 55, 8, it says my thoughts are nothing like your thoughts, says the Lord, isaiah 55, 8,. It says my thoughts are nothing like your thoughts, says the Lord, and my ways are far beyond anything that you can imagine. So sometimes well, every time God has a better idea than the request that you've made. I'm going to say that again. Sometimes God has a better idea than the request that you've made, so he's not answering that prayer. He's doing something different in your life, and when he does, you've got to let him. Yeah, I mean. Well, you know, he is God, after all, and his ways are not our ways and his thoughts are higher than ours. And aren't we glad about that? All right, so those are just some of the reasons why God may not have answered your prayer.

Speaker 1:

Again, there is another episode. Please go back and listen to it. The show notes will have the link. And please, with this episode, I want you to pray. I want you to ask God are there reasons? Are any of these reasons active in the responses that I have not yet received? And then wait for an answer, humble your heart, like he told us earlier, so that you can receive that response and then govern yourself accordingly. All right, have a wonderfully blessed day. I'll see you on the next episode. Bye now.
