08.13.2024 AA to AI Rundown

AI news is all over.  And the field changes by the minute.  This isn’t the old days, waiting for the phone book every year, examining how thick those yellow pages are to get a gauge on how something is changing.

New world, new flavor.

Running through newsletters, I was munching on The Rundown AI.  I can leave a link below if you are interested.

Unlike some AI news, where you have to build bridges to comprehend future impacts, The Rundown is a little more down-to-earth.  (Just note, keep listening, HERE).

One article in the Rundown set off a bit of an alarm inside my rather sensitive internals … while the source was of common interest.

First the source.  Google.  Ok, no revelation that AI is part of their pallet.

But sometimes game changing tech comes from common sources.  So check this …

Google Meet has added a new feature … one that can take notes for you during meetings.  So human note takers will, soon, become old news.  Per The Rundown:

Taking notes during meetings will soon be a thing from our prehistoric, non-AI past — with Google pushing for a more practical, AI-assisted future of work. Alongside this, the tech giant is directly competing against smaller AI startups such as Otter AI and Fireflies who’ve thrived by selling a nearly identical features to users.

First glance.  Awesome!  I am a slow scribbler.

But think about your team.  Those relationships.  The trust quotient.

I keep pondering change, so valued staff, like administrative assistants.  They keep you in line, know what to write, what to omit, understand a leaders personality, and provide guidance from a vantage point of the front row.  Those admin assistants are, for lack of a better term, pillars of the community … the colab that is any community of team members with tasks to get things done.

In even my most recent past, my administrative assistant was as trusted as any manager … perhaps more … and such good counsel … as they had so much institutional memory to draw upon … as CEOs and anyone like them … switch chairs on the regular … but those in the trust zone … the admins … they do a lot more than take notes.  They screen, they couch, they filter …

So before you think that AI is going to take over the world, know that you will still need that flesh and blood analog assistant to guide while navigating the political and the sensitive to keep a team going.

Google and all that other AI is coming for YOU … but you need more than AI … think EQ and DNA … leave the synthetic AI at the door for a moment … a long moment …

Long live the administrative assistants.  I think they will continue to have a good, long, life.  As for Google, well, I think … let’s face it … they aren’t going anywhere, either.

Get it?

More later …
