Well, well … you are probably wondering what happened to the podcast.
To be honest, I wasn’t quite sure. I was writing scripts, but I really was encased inside an artistic six sided cube. That is no door to escape. And no light. But there I was, rolling around.
Honestly, I thought that this whole thing peaked, and off the cliff and into the ocean I went. That this great experiment was over. I didn’t like to think about that as I like podcasting, writing and producing. So, over?
Ugh. That is to say, I was writing and had quite a bit of material. I still have all that material. But nothing felt … well, right. It was kinda like I lost my way. Like I lost all my grip. Nothing felt right, and as much as I tried to write out of my pallor, I just couldn’t do anything that felt … well … authentic.
Sort of breathing in a cool fog my voice went. Talking, but no sound. So I took a break, writing here and there, thinking in a couple of weeks I would find my way back, with some well placed sound and some good humor … as I am fond of both … but no amount of sleep and steam was proving to be an anecdote.
Why is this?
First, I have to say that I have grown increasingly frustrated with AI, in general. It is a subject of much digital and analog thought, but the amount of synthetic content keeps growing … and I found myself in the middle of an AI current, in the middle of AI nowhere, floating about, gripping the keys of thought, a synthetic ocean taking me to no shore. Alas, we all find ourselves adrift once in a while, but I was finding no light, no lighthouse. And so I drifted. And drifted. And drifted. Not a bird of intellectual insite to be found. No bearing, no sunrise, no sunset. Binnacled but no line, no needle, no way … like no trade wind at all.
What to do, what to do.
Meanwhile, there was another thing I was struggling with … pretty much everyone has a podcast now. And while I enjoy a good interview, over time, the hosts and interviewers come off quite vain, and the speakers sort of make the rounds to promote a book or themselves, and I was just finding both the host and the hosted of all those shows and podcasts to be … at least over time … nauseating. I honestly cannot watch another YouTube creator. All of it just feels like a big, never ending tumbler.
Now, one thing I could land on … my drift wood to which I gripped … is that I can’t be THAT. Anyone who does audio loves a bit of their own voice and the miracle of creation, be it music or the spoken word … but to be categorized like the rest … well, I just can’t do that. This just can’t be ABOUT ME. I hope that makes sense. I refuse to be like everyone else. That is why I will never be on Youtube. I am an audio creation, of analog origin on AI intent.
Meanwhile, I found myself in another sea … the one of words … as I have been reading three or four different books at a time, reading in the morning, reading a lunch, rolling with a book and even a small dictionary at my side… writing in margins, annotating as I am prone to do. And to what end? I couldn’t figure it out, but paper and a trusty ink pen were driving me, and words were proving the surf I was seeking … even though I couldn’t figure what was happening … those books kept rolling. And they still do. But to what end? Good question.
Finally, last night, it hit me. Season 5. What that artist thing was and where it was taking me. Building on some of the wise audio … I don’t want to quit that, combined with all that non-fiction and fiction I was digesting like a good yogurt … day in and day out. Finally, some direction and fusion.
Late last night I realized that I needed sound, but I not just my words, but the authorship and intellect of the library of man. I needed to push away from any self importance, and make AI, TECH, and LIFE embrace the analog, as it is only the bed of analog that all this AI really makes sense.
As we really don’t need more AI reviews. Not really. But we do need those analog reminders to provide the ground to make sense of all the change we are experiencing. So while JFK and Carlin and all those other voices of the not-so-distant black and white era remind us, anything good … anything worth having … remains grounded in old and ancient ideas. And with that, I will bring you some sound and some spoken word … splices of great words of great thinkers and great books that will give you some new paint for your pallet. AI being the latest aggressive perplexing branch that is creating this uncomfortable and questionable societal collision that only good thinking can kneed.
Thank you for your patience and listening. Oddly, my listenership numbers stayed pretty stable. Pretty good for such a vacation. The podcast is designed to be insensitive to time. And it appears that is one goal I am hitting. And I hope you understand that, as with any artistic endeavor, evolution is part of the process. And so goes AI, TECH, and LIFE … evolving for Season 4 … a little different, a little simpler, and a little more sage … a little less about me and little more about everything else.
Thank you for listening. And enjoy the show.
