Musing on old media and concepts.  If only because I can. (smile).

To clue you in, in the event you didn’t catch it … that, my friends, was the intro to The Highlander.  Not the movie, which, I admit, I was not the biggest fan of … but it definitely was a young dudes movie when it was released.  And having been a young dude at one time, it is still in memory banks, however remote.

Now, the premise I was down with … and the execution was interesting … but honestly, not campy enough. 

But the TV series that was created later was really campy, really sexy, really fun, and, until the budget was exhausted, flat out, awesome.  It was a fun show.  That good looking scotsman, roaming the earth, loping heads off with a sword while taking the moral high ground, 

getting amped by lightning post head lop … and (parden me, ahem) hittin hot women for, what? … 400 years or something?  True love eventually found, only to slip away due to mortality meeting immortality.

Yeah, the show was created by men, written by women, and served all that watched it.

But the TV show introduced a concept that I found quite interesting.  That is, The Watchers, a concept alien to the film, but key to the series.

Boiling it down, the Watchers were an order of humans who recorded the lives of the immortals like the Highlander (in this case, Duncan MacLeod).  Sort of like Christ and the Apostles and those that came after, in this case, recording all the history 

of that rather righteous highlander fellow.  Note, the group had what seemed to be unlimited resources.  Bases, libraries, archives … sort of like the Vatican.  I’ll leave it up to you about what might be fiction or what is …

The real point.

Without taking you too deep into my Sunday afternoons in Orlando oh so many years ago, I want you to consider the concept of the Watchers that roamed the airwaves 25 years ago (or something like that).

So do this … replace Watchers with UFOs or aliens, and then consider the following clip:

UFO sightings have increased about eight times from 2021 to 2025.  2000 reported sightings in the first half of 2025 alone.  I am assuming 2026 may tally even more.

The US Government is suddenly more active, disseminating reports and video taken by military aviators.  Oddly, they seem to even be greasing the skids for an eventual disclosure of alien life.  

The watcher part still remains to be determined.

Pre digital, old photos and videos were always a must see … often taking the form of a Reticulan … probing innocent parties … all seeming to testify on one hand and selling a story on the other.

So what, exactly, am I driving at?

Unexplained aerial phenomenon … definitely some meat on the grey bone (and if you get that reference, then you are a certified UFO geek!).

But, rather than being some sort of entertaining human-contained ant farm for those from other dimensions, and assuming there actually are aliens on those ships, are there indeed aliens watching us?

One must wonder.  If so, are they cataloging like those fictional Watchers that followed those immortals like the Highlander, authoring content that is stored in some sort of alien vatican like catalog? 

Let's face it, the markets and world order would roil with such confirmation, but the vast majority would find out on Instagram, Facebook, X, and other platforms like these… and be billowing out video and commentary reaching for the clicks and likes before caring about any truth to the matter.  

Old timers might reach for something like CBS Radio, but won’t be able to, because that just shut down.  Radio news being so “yesterday”.

Personally, my pragmatic self vetos the idea.  But hangout on Reddit and you will start reading some rather interesting and, dare I say, kooky, theories on this concept.

Well, like all of you, I really don’t know.  The answer seems to lurk in the realm of religion, and we have been arguing about that for a short 6000 years or so.  And now, some thing may have created scripture based on YOU.  

(I pity the fool).  

It hurts my eyes to think about it.  But, suffice it to say, more of us would be lucky to be a one-liner when all is said and done.  Painful to watch and hardly newsworthy to anyone but ourselves.

So I think I’ll just go back to those lazy warm Sunday afternoons in Orlando, taking a load off on the couch with the kids, wicking off the sweat from mowing the lawn, and catching an hour of campy TV.

Because TV is easy and fun.  And finding out any truth to all this alien theology and where I fit in the cosmos is, at best, exclusive in my mind only.

If there can be only one, then that, my friends, is good enough for me. 

Except for the loping heads off part … I’ll skip that part.  The aliens can clue me in on our next astral trip.
