Sis, what's the origin of that thing that you do that keeps you from recognizing that you are glorious? How do we find ourselves in spaces that don't dignify our glory? I take it to our origins, the stories told to us by others that we subsequently believe about ourselves. In the text This Here Flesh, Cole Arthur Riley so eloquently states: Our walk to liberation requires us to parse truth from trick. And to ask ourselves, What does evil have to gain in tricking us into believing we are anything less than glorious? When we consider the implications of believing we are anything less than glorious, we live a life of deliberately being unseen, because we do not believe in our own dignity. As I personally consider times in my life when I have stayed a minute too long in spaces that did not dignify my glory, I'm drawn back to an earlier time, my childhood, where the narrative was I could always be greater, thus what I was in that moment was not good enough. I have subsequently carried that belief in my present and it shows up in the ways I relationship with myself and with others. I believe in my dignity now. And when one believes in their dignity it becomes more difficult to remain content with the bondage with which you have become so acquainted.
